Defining Moments In My Life
Having defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life is very important. Its
something to base your life off of, having these key parts in your history is what built you to who
you are today. It builds character and helps you learn the right and wrongs in life. I believe without
having defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life whether they are
something as small as a coach teaching you a new play to maneuver, or a bumper on bumper car
crash that sent you to the hospital for stitches can look small but have a deep impact on your life.
Using these incidences to build your life can make you the person who you are today. Everybody
has their own specific defining moment that is most important to that person. Whether it was for

my childhood going into that school year. We would meet up every morning in the summer and go

Herring River Restoration
The Herring River Restoration Project in Cape Cod, Massachusetts is the largest saltwater
restoration project of the east coast. It involves many organizations' support through research and
grants to be successful such as Friends of Herring River, The Cape Cod National Seashore, US Fish
and Wildlife Service, as well as various other private and governmental organizations. The Herring
River Restoration Project centers on the deteriorating dike that was put in place in 1909 which
forever changed the original undisturbed ecological dynamic of the Herring River system.
Perhaps the most influential species decline within the river system has been the River Herring,
which is the namesake of the river due to its once thriving population and fishery. ... Show more

Aquatic biologists from the Cape Cod National Seashore have published newsletters stating that
"increased intertidal volume produces greatly increased tidal flushing. Better flushing will reduce
floodwater mosquito breeding on the wetland surface, dilute the presently high fecal coliform counts
that have closed river–mouth shellfish beds, and improve water–column aeration by flooding the
wetland twice each day with oxygen–rich Cape Cod Bay water" (CCNS, 2011). After the restoration
begins taking place and the water levels are allowed to rise, the greater amounts of water will impact
where they once dominated in the wetland soils that have fallen to being drained by the dike. This
will, in turn, offset the chemical effects of the dam that caused acidity issues and toxic metal
presence which has killed off fish populations in adjacent effected waterways (Portnoy and Giblin,

The Democratic Alliance and the Future of South Africa
Good morning. As a representative and leader in the Democratic Alliance, I have come here today to
explain to you why the DA sees a brighter and more opportune future for South Africa. However, we
need your support in order to change our country into a nation of hope and for our dream of
everyone to live in peace and prosperity to become a reality.
To understand our manifesto and views, one needs to understand that the DA does not place people
in a position of power according to their race, name or wealth, but rather their talents and efforts.
This country cannot move forward without change, and as it stands the unemployment rates and the
ever increasing problems are being put aside by the current government for personal ventures such
as Nkandla that is surrounded by houses without running water. But dwelling on the negatives and
current failures is not our objective. I am here to vie and let you decide that we are working towards
a brighter future.
it is understandable that people are worried that if they do not vote for the current government that
the circumstances of apartheid and a dark past will reappear, but it can be assured that the DA are
working towards changing the past and aim for a country that has equal opportunities for all. Our
work is evident in the Western Cape where we govern and 76% of the provincial governments
budget is spent on poor communities. The Western Capes unemployment rate is the lowest in the
country, 12% lower than anywhere else in South

Maritime Exploration Challenges Of Ferdinand Magellan And...
Maritime Exploration Challenges of Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Francis Drake Exploration of the
oceans was very popular during the time of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan and English
explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan was a young Portuguese man who enlisted under
the Spanish king before he began his expedition to go on a trip around the world on the 10th of
August in 1519 ("Ferdinand" 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune and fame, and he
left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands ("Ferdinand
Magellan"). Sir Francis Drake led the English voyage for maritime exploration, sailing off in 1577
with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South America via the Straits of Magellan ("Francis").
Both voyages and explorers were met with several challenges in which they had to quickly resolve.
The first of the many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey occurred after they were
docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this time that "three of the ships
rose up against the Captain–major, their captains saying that they intended to take him to Castile in
arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction" ("Ferdinand" 2). While this mutiny was the first of
his challenges, it was quickly taken care of by Ferdinand, who had one of the captains executed and
another excommunicated. Although he started out his exploration with 5 ships, he sailed away from
the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was sent ahead and was shipwrecked due to severe
weather. On October 21 of the same year, Magellan entered the straight he was looking for that
would later be named after him. Two ships entered to see what was inside of the channels in the
straight. From the two ships that entered, one ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, "entered into
one of the bays which was to the south, and did not return any more" ("Ferdinand" 3). At this point,
Magellan was down to 3 out of the 5 ships that he originally started with. He did not wait for this
ship, and instead continued the journey after leaving a note in case the ship returned. In March of
1521, while no longer in the strait but back on the seas, Magellan once again anchored at

INTRODUCING THE SERVICE DELIVERY AND CITIZEN
PARTICIPATION...
1.1 INTRODUCING THE SERVICE DELIVERY AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
CONUNDRUM IN KHAYELITSHA
This study presents an assessment of connections between service delivery – water services in
particular – and participatory strategies adopted by different communities. This study was thought–
out within a context of heightened militancy in local government as exemplified by the widespread
and so called service delivery protests in 2005–2006. A large body of literature (e.g. Benit–Gbaffou
2008a, 2008b, Piper and Nadvi 2010, Tapscott 2010, 2005, Ballard et al 2006, Miraftab 2006, and
Zeurn 2001) already exists on the state–civil society nexus in the post apartheid era. A majority of
these studies point to the failure of the institutionalised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For her, land occupations are inevitable as long as access to land by urban poor remains regulated
and the release rates remain below demand levels, regardless of amount of force used against them.
This is aptly demonstrated in the mushrooming of informal settlements well into the post apartheid
era. The present problems relating to service delivery cannot separated from such this historical
account African urbanity in South Africa, although this does not circumvent problems with present
service delivery. The historicity of service delivery problems faced by the South African nation
however does not preclude analysis continuities found in contemporary policy formulations, which
as Huchzermeyer (2004) argues are still fixated on regulatory 'orderly' urbanisation. Yet such a
historical context should illuminate why it has become critical for government to address this issue.
Many have fallen into the trap of rebuffing a historical analysis of contemporary South African
problems. Almost habitually, the critics of historical analysis accuse its proponents of turning a blind
eye on failings of the post apartheid administration led by the ANC. 'Apartheid cannot be blamed on
that is wrong in South Africa' they seem to say. Deservedly that statement is true. While race politics
falls outside the scope of the study, it is difficult to understand agitation relating to service delivery
entirely outside

problem, I used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick

at the start of every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and
did the simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I

Upon arrival on Saturday we will be heading to a hotel that is located downtown Cape Town. The
hotel is relatively close to the office we will be working out of. It will be an easy commute back and
forth to the office on foot. The office is a 4–5 minute walk from the hotel. Saturday and Sunday will

The Drake Passage : The Passages Of The Drake Passage
The Drake Passage is a fierce body of water that is around the Cape Horn and the South
Shetland Islands of the Antarctic. It connects the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean
and extends through the Southern Ocean. It is the shortest crossing to Antarctica, than
any other landmass. The other two passages are around the extreme Southern part of
South America. The winds are so extreme, ships can't make a headway through the Passage.
The Antarctic current pushes more than 600 time the flow of water than the Amazon River.
Ships in the Drake Passage are often good platforms for sighting whales, Dolphins, etc.
The Cape Horn was an important trade route connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
It has also to been known for the most dangerous ship routes on the planet earth. To sail
Ships in the Drake Passage, it could take more than weeks just to make it around the Cape

Why exactly is this passage so dangerous.

The squeeze through the drakes passage, the gap between the tip of South America and at the end of

Framework For Analysis : School Closure
Framework for Analysis School closure is a sensitive and complicated situation. Therefore, it should
be worked tactfully and strategically. The students' academic learning, safety, and smooth transition
during times of changes should be the focal point for any administrator, during a school closure. As
human beings, the leaders will experience a broad spectrum of feelings, that will most likely push
him or her into a 'rollercoaster of sentiments', while dealing with this type of crisis. However, as
leaders and managers, they must control their feelings, while clenching on their values, their
knowledge, and their leadership standards to be effective and assertive throughout the process. An
effective administrator should lead, their followers, towards a successful transition or, if possible,
inspire them to challenge the possibility of closure. As per this case study, Mr. Jones needed to
prioritize and balance his responsibilities as an administrator and leader. Roosevelt Neighborhood
School was a middle school that was serving a significant number of ELL and minorities, one of the
few in a predominantly white district. Almost two thirds of their demographics were encompassed
of Latinos and African Americans. Even when their discipline was not strictly enforced, they did not

The Harsh Reality Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck
The Harsh Reality "Listen to me, you crazy bastard," "Don 't you even take a look at the bitch. In
this quote, it shines light on how people treat each other during the book and how they act when
they are near each other. Instead of saying nice words, they bring people down in Mice and Men.
Individuals in the story use mean phrases and words to use against people that are not the same as
them or that doesn't look like them. Why does the author use derogatory terms in his book Mice and
Men, what message was he trying to send to his readers? "In John Steinbeck 's novel Of Mice and
Men, the author illustrates that people discriminate against one another because they want to feel
better about themselves and to gain self–pride. People discriminate because they are insecure about
themselves. What this idea means is that people are not true to themselves, so they have to reform in
bullying and discriminating each other. So when Candy or anybody on the farm tries to bully
Lennie, it is because he not the same as a "normal" person in that society and that he is not the same
as everybody else in the book. For example "Lennie lumbered to his feet and disappeared into the
brush. Furthermore, proving my point, "George lay where he was and whistled softly to himself.
There were sounds of splashing down the river in direction Lennie had taken. George stopped
whistling and listened." "Poor bastard," he said softly, and then went on

Analysis Of The Film Invictus
Many times, when I think of leaders, I tend to look their heart. Being a leader is more than that but,
if a leader doesn't have a good heart than they aren't a good person in my opinion. Therefore, I
believe that the film Invictus does a great job at portraying just that. This film follows two real life
leaders Nelson Mandela and François Pienaar. Both come together and try to unite South Africa.
After Mandela, is jailed for over 27 years his goal is to have peace amongst all the races.
One very important thing that is talked about is the essence of leadership. Nelson, states that people
are inspired to do greatness and so is everyone else by using the work of others. He only expects
more of himself. This is what keeps him going every day and that's how he keeps growing as a
person.
In the film, Mandela showed qualities of a true leader. He did not hold onto resentment even though
he was in jail for almost three decades. In one instance, he wanted races to be united no matter the
color of their skin. When his security team needed more people, he made sure that he had white
security as well. Mandela's original team did not agree with him and therefore they were furious.
The head of security went to speak with Mandela and Mandela told him that change starts with
them. By him having different types of races working for him this showcased that it didn't matter the
color of their skin. Everyone is equal in the end.
Going further into the film, Mandela showed leadership

Freedlander expressed that she had been most successful soliciting donors from a highly educated,

fundraising program relies on building intimate personal relationships with potential donors. HPL
has small events throughout the year at people's homes and potential donors are sometimes invited
to tour their facilities. They also utilize personal phone calls and direct mail to engage with past
donors. In addition to the general fundraising program, HPL also has one campaign, called
"Advancing Coastal Solutions," which raises money for equipment needed by young scientists to
perform research and fieldwork.
Freedlander, the sole member of the development and fundraising team for HPL, plans on retiring in
the near future. Though there is currently not a detailed transition plan for her retirement, she has
said the HPL is considering hiring a development director who has experience with fundraising at
the national and international as well as a staff member to continue the local donor relationships that
Freedlander has fostered. HPL is planning on relying on word of mouth to connect with potential
hires rather than placing an ad for the development position. This is potentially concerning, as

Racial And Economic Justice Can Be Achieved Without Violence
One of the most important questions in my generation was "Can racial and economic justice be
achieved without violence?" That is still a relevant question in today's world as well. However, I am
here to say yes; racial and economic justice can be achieved without violence. Racial and economic
injustice occurred while I was in high religious order and we were able to stop these injustices
without violence. We held non–violent protests all across South Africa and it ended up being
successful for our country. When your enemy is using the tactic of violence to stop us from voicing
our opinions on injustices, being violent right back would only cause more issues. So I firmly stand
by my opinion that racial and economic justice can be achieved without being violent. Before I
begin my argument that non–violence is the only solution to these injustices, I will give a few details
about my background. "My full name is Desmond Mpilo Tutu and I was born on October 7th, 1931
in South Africa. I was born to a father that was an elementary school teacher and a mother who
worked at a school for the blind. Even though I and my 3 siblings knew that there was segregation in
our world, and our family did not have a lot of money, we still had a very happy childhood and

Gold And Gold Of The Diamond Industry
A diamond, it is a precious stone more value than gold and silver not only in society today but has
been since its discovery. Diamonds became very much famous by the development in the supply as
well as the advanced technology. Technology helped enabled the Diamond cutting, shaping,
polishing as well as finishing. The name diamond comes from the Greek word, adamas meaning
unconquerable. This is the perfect name because diamonds are made of pure carbon, and are the
hardest natural substance known to man according to De Beers. Diamonds have long been a sign of
wealth and fortune. Kings and queens have worn these forms of concentrated carbon and even more
people have wished they could own and wear them. These gems come in a variety of shades and can
be transparent, truculent white, yellow, green, blue, or brown. De Beers is a company that dominates
the history of the diamond industry. Diamonds had become the precious luxury goods and De Beers
was the company which could market these luxury goods. To understand the value of these stones,
and ultimately their role in wars and other aspects in life, it helps to first understand their origins,
how they are made and their impact on society. All these factors combined make diamonds
particularly vulnerable to exploitation by armed rebel movements mining and trading diamonds in
Africa and many other countries around the world.
For centuries diamonds have been associated with supernatural qualities, including the power to

My Cultural Aspects Of My Culture In Cape Verdean
A culture is a set of characteristics of a particular group of people. It emcopasses language, social
aspect, such as relegion, cuisine, social habits,, music, and arts. I considered my culture to be Cape
Verdean. I was born and raised in Cape Verde until I was fourteen. My country was colonized by the
Portuguese, so there are a lot common culture aspects between Cape Verde and Portugal . One of the
results of colonization was implementation of catholicism as a primary religion in my country. It
was not until recent years that other forms of religious started to emerge in Cape Verde. However,
for some people who strong practice catholicism there is a strong push back against those who aren't
from the same religion. This has raised a lot religion conflict not only with foreign people who come

The Trials From World War II, South Africa
"No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, 'Hey
presto!' things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey"
(Tutu 3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken place
throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa
implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process "guarantees pardon for
any confess crime 'associated with a political objective'" (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop
of the Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an
American living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points.
Ruden sees the RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough
reparations. While Ruden does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC
process, Tutu presents a more convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a
trial system, while also explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful
solution to the post–apartheid society in South Africa.
Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators
from the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. Tutu theorizes that "the security
forces of the apartheid regime would not have supported the negotiated

New England Soup Company: Business Overview
NEW ENGLAND SOUP COMPANY
On January 11, 1991, William Kolander, president of the New England Soup Company of Boston,
Massachusetts, was reviewing a research report he had received from a Boston–based research
house. The report presented the findings of a study on the firm's new formulation of Kolander's
Chowder brand of canned soup. The study had also been sent to the firm's sales manager, Kirk
George, and the production manager, Edward Corey. A meeting was scheduled for January 12 with
the research firm and the New
England Soup Company management. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the research
findings and to make decisions concerning Kolander's product offerings.

The results of the group sessions suggested that an important proportion of the competitive canned
chowder users preferred a chowder that was thicker and creamier than the current Kolander's
Chowder brand formulation. Of the former Kowlander's Chowder users, the desire for a creamier
formulation was the predominant reason for switching. Many of these chowder users had switched
to either Fisherman's Delight or Cape Cod Chowder.
Based on these findings, the research firm recommended that further research be conducted to
evaluate changing Kolander's Chowder to a creamier formulation. For purposes of the test, it was
recommended that two creamier formulations be developed, a "creamy" version and an "extra
creamy" version. These two new formulations would be evaluated in a taste test along with
Kolander's current chowder plus the two competitive brands.
After several meetings on specific aspects of the proposed research design, Kolander decided to
approve the project. Appendix B presents the results of this study.

Essay on Cry, the Beloved Country, by Alan Paton
Cry, the Beloved Country
In a country torn by segregation and hatred, one man seeks to rebuild his family and his tribe. Cry,
the beloved country is a tale of forgiveness, generosity, and endurance. In the story, the main
protagonist is helped by a number of characters. A South African man
Stephen Kumalo loses his young son, but is still determined to improve the life of his people. In this
black man's country, white man's law had broken the tribe, divided the people and corrupted the
youth. How could these wounds of hatred be healed, when would the youth realize the immorality of
their actions, and when would South Africans achieve unity. Father Vincent said "Fear is a journey, a

One must be thankful for what one already possesses and work hard to improve.
Kumalo gets Absalom and the girl married and took the girl home. It also helps him realize
Absalom's condition when he committed the crime. Msimangu said "I see only one hope for this
country and that is when white and black men, desiring neither power nor money, but desiring only
the good of their country come together to work for it."
South Africa was plagued with problems of poverty, apartheid, and crime. Kumalo realizes that in
order to find some solution people must forgive each other for what has already happened and make
a joint effort to provide a new life to the country. Mourning about the past helps nobody, it's a better
future that peoples should strive for.
James Jarvis's son had been murdered by Absalom. Still, he forgave
Kumalo and worked to improve the dismal life of the black people in his valley. This poverty, he
thought was the main reason for black crime. Kumalo also forgives people of his own family for
their mistakes. Although, his sister Gertrude was a prostitute and his son had an illegitimate affair
with a young girl, he accepted both
Gertrude and the young girl into his family.
A lawyer took the case of Kumalo for God, Msimangu helped him financially, Ms Lithebe provided
his family shelter, and although
Jarvis had lost his son to black crime, he still helped rebuild

A Case Study On The Maiden 500kmplus Challenge
Since the adventure bug bit on his maiden 500kmPlus challenge in 2015, the 41–year–old
Capetonian has been testing his mettle cross–country and fundraising for local charities. Willie
started small – his words, not mine – when he ran, cycled and paddled a distance of 581km from
Mossel Bay to Franschhoek. Funds raised on his first 500kmPlus adventure went to Tin Can Town
and assisted impoverished communities in Blikkiesdorp. Next up was the 511km journey along
rugged West Coast, which was in aid of pet rescue organisation Fallen Angels. After that came his

The endurance athlete aimed to cover 100km each day between their sunrise departure and mid–to–
late afternoon arrival at each stayover. Willie typically began each stage with about 20km of running
before a 70km cycle and another 10km on foot to the finish. Where there was no pre–arranged
accommodation, the team relied upon the goodwill of other people – often farmers – who permitted
them to camp on their properties. In some towns, the affiliated charity organisations were able to
arrange discounted or free accommodation for the team. "Once we arrived at a stop, we would look
around for somewhere to stay. If there was nothing available, we would find a farmhouse, knock on
the door and ask if we could pitch our tents for the night. We were strangers, but every person we
met was so accommodating and trusting of us." Multi–stage endurance expeditions of this
magnitude demand of athletes immense physical and mental tenacity, no matter how great their
preparation. The ultra–distances Willie covered repetitively were taxing on his body, mind and gear.
He also endured temperatures in the mid–30s which occasionally reached 40 degrees Celsius and
threatened dehydration. "Conditions were extreme. Heat, wind, dust, rain – there was always
something working against me. My backside was aching and blistered just three days after leaving
Namibia. Lubricant helped for a while, but when that ran out I had to use cooking oil. It was rough."

"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." This quote was
meant to convey the message that people should always be grateful for their families, as they are
perhaps one of the greatest gifts given to an individual by God. Desmond Tutu is, and has been, one
of the most influential peacemakers of the past century. However, his life had humble beginnings.
Tutu was born in the small city of Klerksdorp, Transvaal, into a poor family with one other child
("Desmond Tutu – Biographical" 1). Even though he was born into a poor family and had only one
sibling, he still had a fairly happy childhood. While Desmond Tutu was growing up, he noticed a lot

So, he decided on a teaching career. Luckily, Tutu got a scholarship to become a teacher ("The
Famous People"1). He left his high school soon after he received the scholarship to follow in his
father 's footsteps ("Desmond Tutu – Biographical"1 ). While working, he got his masters degree,
and became a teacher. After being a teacher for 5 years, he woke up to the harsh reality of racism
and segregation. Desmond was reminded of these things every day by his own students never even
getting over the color of his skin. The students were constantly saying, "We have a black teacher,"
and the new students first question was always, "Do you think he 's smart enough to teach us" ("The
Famous People" 1).
Desmond Tutu was a famous spokesman for black people's rights as the Dean of St. Mary's
Cathedral. He became the Bishop of Lesotho in 1976. Two years later, he became the General
Secretary of the South African Council of Churches. He was an outspoken activist, and wrote long
papers to fight against apartheid. In the year of 1983, a new constitution was brought up for South
Africa to defend against the growing apartheid movement. Tutu played a very crucial role in the
formation of the N.F.C to fight the changes. He won the Nobel peace prize in 1984, due to his
emergence as an outspoken leader in the anti–apartheid movement. He was appointed as the Bishop
of Johannesburg, and was chosen to be the archbishop of Cape Town the year after. He

What Successful Principals Do And What Unsuccessful Ones Fail
In Ponomareva's article, "What Successful Principals Do and What Unsuccessful Ones Fail to Do",
the author outlines what they believe to be the key factors and attributes that propel certain
principals to greater success than others. Although many of these at first glance appear to be more of
the "simply common sense" variety, others give the reader pause to marinate in the greater
implications of those basic characteristics. Ponomareva (2015) rationalizes that his "many years of
practical interaction with school principals in the system of upgrading of qualifications and
certification of pedagogical and administrative cadres" (p. 37) gives him the insight to be able to
evaluate the attributes of what successful principals do. Ponomareva states that the road to being a
successful principal starts long before one acquires the title. In fact, he believes that the leadership
quality of professional growth begins as a person first enters a classroom as a teacher, which is
honed to perfection as that teacher takes on leadership roles among their colleagues.
As a classroom teacher, my philosophy is "always more, never less", and I apply this philosophy as I
work within my peer unit. A person who is willing to put themselves "out there" and accept more
responsibility for the good of the group I believe, is a person who can evolve into a successful
leader. As a leader of a school, the principal is an inspiration to those who work with them, always
keeping the moral high

CAPE 350/500
In 2016, we added a 200–bus version of CAPE called CAPE 200. While this had originally seemed
like a good product, and had been requested by Inelec, we found no prospects for the product in
2016. For 2017, I would like to raise the bus limit to 350 or even 500 in order to offer a product that
could reach a wider range of potential customers. The engineering effort for this change would be
minimal as the basis for the ability to include such an offering is already in the software. Patrick
estimates about 3 hours of his time to implement such a change. The price for this offering would
remain the same as CAPE 200.
In North America, the CAPE 350/500 offering could be used to reach out to co–ops, small
municipalities, etc. I would like to join the municipality and co–op organizations in order to have

efforts.

A Place Where The Soul Can Rest Essay
Women have struggled to identify themselves and claim what has belonged to them, because of their
race, class, as well as, gender, that has limited them from all the opportunities men have received.
While growing in a more recent generation, individuals believe that there is no longer a gender

The Population Registration Act separated the colored–people into sections based on your ethnicity–
white, colored, Native, or Asian. The last law that was put into action was the Bantu Education Act.
This act meant that black students would receive poor education in comparison to white students, as
they weren't taught math or science. Desmond Tutu put an end to these laws as he used his religious
views against apartheid and had earned equal rights for all of the citizens of South Africa. This
allowed colored people to have the right to use public transportation, to have mixed–race marriages,
and to live freely. They would no longer live in shacks without water or electricity, and would have
the right to live among each other, black and white together.
In 1944, Desmond Tutu and all the other people of color that live in South Africa could vote
together. This would embark the first time the white people would vote with people of other color,
and would commence the start of an unknown freedom. Through this action, the first black president
of South Africa was elected, Nelson Mandela. Allowing colored people to vote prevents history
from repeating itself, and ensures that everyone will have an opinion on which government should
rightfully be in power. This led to a bright future for South Africa, and made it an even better day for
Desmond as he said "it was the day of liberation for all of us, black and white together."

a leader. When Mandela was chosen as the leader of the new South Africa in 1994, Desmond Tutu
was asked to act as head of the Truth & Reconciliation Committee (TRC). Tutu resigned as
Archbishop to dedicate his time to the TRC. He continued his work even when he was diagnosed

Review Of ' Searching For Sugar Man '

Essay 3 Second Draft
A Review of "Searching for Sugar Man" The film "Searching for Sugar Man" focuses on a legend
folk music star, Sixto Rudriguez, who is more popular than Elvis in South Africa but fails to gain
fame in the United States. He knows nothing about his fame in South Africa and has no idea how he
is deified there. The whole story is told in a linear way to present a dramatic journey of finding
Rudriguez. It is not followed an old–fashioned "rough start–road to success–dream come true" style
(Ning). It is a display of two parallel worlds of a legend music hermit. An artist who regards art as
his ultimate faith in life remains unmoved either by gain or loss. In describing music journey of
Rudriguez, the director shoots several full–length shots of Rudriguez's wandering. The first
wandering shot appears at the sixth minute, where a lonely figure wanders passing by slums, CD
shops, the sewer club and Detroit steel factory. "He was just a wandering spirit around the city"
("Searching for Sugar Man"). This shot indicates several elements of that time, including working
class, minority nation, and large company. The solitude night of Detroit and the decaying
atmosphere of this city are perfectly matched, which coordinates with Rudriguez's music as
background melody. "A modest man of modest means, he quietly reflects on the success he now
enjoys a continent away from his Detroit home and the hard times in

Its something to base your life off of, having these key parts in your history is what built you to who you are today. It builds character and helps you learn the right and wrongs in life. I believe without having defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life whether they are something as small as a coach teaching you a new play to maneuver, or a bumper on bumper car crash that sent you to the hospital for stitches can look small but have a deep impact on your life. It involves many organizations' support through research and grants to be successful such as Friends of Herring River, The Cape Cod National Seashore, US Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as various other private and governmental organizations. The Herring River Restoration Project centers on the deteriorating dike that was put in place in 1909 which forever changed the original undisturbed ecological dynamic of the Herring River system. Perhaps the most influential species decline within the river system has been the River Herring, which is the namesake of the river due to its once thriving population and fishery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aquatic biologists from the Cape Cod National Seashore have published newsletters stating that "increased intertidal volume produces greatly increased tidal flushing. Better flushing will reduce floodwater mosquito breeding on the wetland surface, dilute the presently high fecal coliform counts that have closed river–mouth shellfish beds, and improve water–column aeration by flooding the wetland twice each day with oxygen–rich Cape Cod Bay water" (CCNS, 2011). After the restoration begins taking place and the water levels are allowed to rise, the greater amounts of water will impact where they once dominated in the wetland soils that have fallen to being drained by the dike. This will, in turn, offset the chemical effects of the dam that caused acidity issues and toxic metal presence which has killed off fish populations in adjacent effected waterways (Portnoy and Giblin, ... • 25. The Democratic Alliance and the Future of South Africa Good morning. As a representative and leader in the Democratic Alliance, I have come here today to explain to you why the DA sees a brighter and more opportune future for South Africa. However, we need your support in order to change our country into a nation of hope and for our dream of everyone to live in peace and prosperity to become a reality. To understand our manifesto and views, one needs to understand that the DA does not place people in a position of power according to their race, name or wealth, but rather their talents and efforts. This country cannot move forward without change, and as it stands the unemployment rates and the ever increasing problems are being put aside by the current government for personal ventures such as Nkandla that is surrounded by houses without running water. But dwelling on the negatives and current failures is not our objective. I am here to vie and let you decide that we are working towards a brighter future. it is understandable that people are worried that if they do not vote for the current government that the circumstances of apartheid and a dark past will reappear, but it can be assured that the DA are working towards changing the past and aim for a country that has equal opportunities for all. Our work is evident in the Western Cape where we govern and 76% of the provincial governments budget is spent on poor communities. The Western Capes unemployment rate is the lowest in the country, 12% lower than anywhere else in South ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Maritime Exploration Challenges Of Ferdinand Magellan And... Maritime Exploration Challenges of Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Francis Drake Exploration of the oceans was very popular during the time of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan and English explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan was a young Portuguese man who enlisted under the Spanish king before he began his expedition to go on a trip around the world on the 10th of August in 1519 ("Ferdinand" 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune and fame, and he left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands ("Ferdinand Magellan"). Sir Francis Drake led the English voyage for maritime exploration, sailing off in 1577 with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South America via the Straits of Magellan ("Francis"). Both voyages and explorers were met with several challenges in which they had to quickly resolve. The first of the many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey occurred after they were docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this time that "three of the ships rose up against the Captain–major, their captains saying that they intended to take him to Castile in arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction" ("Ferdinand" 2). While this mutiny was the first of his challenges, it was quickly taken care of by Ferdinand, who had one of the captains executed and another excommunicated. Although he started out his exploration with 5 ships, he sailed away from the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was sent ahead and was shipwrecked due to severe weather. On October 21 of the same year, Magellan entered the straight he was looking for that would later be named after him. Two ships entered to see what was inside of the channels in the straight. From the two ships that entered, one ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, "entered into one of the bays which was to the south, and did not return any more" ("Ferdinand" 3). At this point, Magellan was down to 3 out of the 5 ships that he originally started with. He did not wait for this ship, and instead continued the journey after leaving a note in case the ship returned. In March of 1521, while no longer in the strait but back on the seas, Magellan once again anchored at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCING THE SERVICE DELIVERY AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION... 1.1 INTRODUCING THE SERVICE DELIVERY AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION CONUNDRUM IN KHAYELITSHA This study presents an assessment of connections between service delivery – water services in particular – and participatory strategies adopted by different communities. This study was thought– out within a context of heightened militancy in local government as exemplified by the widespread and so called service delivery protests in 2005–2006. A large body of literature (e.g. Benit–Gbaffou 2008a, 2008b, Piper and Nadvi 2010, Tapscott 2010, 2005, Ballard et al 2006, Miraftab 2006, and Zeurn 2001) already exists on the state–civil society nexus in the post apartheid era. A majority of these studies point to the failure of the institutionalised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For her, land occupations are inevitable as long as access to land by urban poor remains regulated and the release rates remain below demand levels, regardless of amount of force used against them. This is aptly demonstrated in the mushrooming of informal settlements well into the post apartheid era. The present problems relating to service delivery cannot separated from such this historical account African urbanity in South Africa, although this does not circumvent problems with present service delivery. The historicity of service delivery problems faced by the South African nation however does not preclude analysis continuities found in contemporary policy formulations, which as Huchzermeyer (2004) argues are still fixated on regulatory 'orderly' urbanisation. Yet such a historical context should illuminate why it has become critical for government to address this issue. Many have fallen into the trap of rebuffing a historical analysis of contemporary South African problems. Almost habitually, the critics of historical analysis accuse its proponents of turning a blind eye on failings of the post apartheid administration led by the ANC. 'Apartheid cannot be blamed on that is wrong in South Africa' they seem to say. Deservedly that statement is true. Assuming these things, and having the given knowledge, we are to answer the question, if you were on a ship leaving from New York, how many ships from San Francisco would you see in passing? Process At first, I was confused with this problem and did not know what to do. For this problem, I used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick & I), we did a simulation. We first drew out a large map with the points that every ship should reach at the start of every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and did the simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I were a traveler on a New York ship bound for San Francisco, I would see SEVEN ships from San Francisco, California along the way. This is how I ... It connects the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean and extends through the Southern Ocean. It is the shortest crossing to Antarctica, than any other landmass. The other two passages are around the extreme Southern part of South America. To sail Ships in the Drake Passage, it could take more than weeks just to make it around the Cape Horn. • 57. Framework For Analysis : School Closure Framework for Analysis School closure is a sensitive and complicated situation. Therefore, it should be worked tactfully and strategically. The students' academic learning, safety, and smooth transition during times of changes should be the focal point for any administrator, during a school closure. As human beings, the leaders will experience a broad spectrum of feelings, that will most likely push him or her into a 'rollercoaster of sentiments', while dealing with this type of crisis. However, as leaders and managers, they must control their feelings, while clenching on their values, their knowledge, and their leadership standards to be effective and assertive throughout the process. An effective administrator should lead, their followers, towards a successful transition or, if possible, inspire them to challenge the possibility of closure. As per this case study, Mr. Jones needed to prioritize and balance his responsibilities as an administrator and leader. In this quote, it shines light on how people treat each other during the book and how they act when they are near each other. Instead of saying nice words, they bring people down in Mice and Men. Individuals in the story use mean phrases and words to use against people that are not the same as them or that doesn't look like them. Why does the author use derogatory terms in his book Mice and Men, what message was he trying to send to his readers? "In John Steinbeck 's novel Of Mice and Men, the author illustrates that people discriminate against one another because they want to feel better about themselves and to gain self–pride. People discriminate because they are insecure about themselves. What this idea means is that people are not true to themselves, so they have to reform in bullying and discriminating each other. So when Candy or anybody on the farm tries to bully Lennie, it is because he not the same as a "normal" person in that society and that he is not the same as everybody else in the book. For example "Lennie lumbered to his feet and disappeared into the brush. Furthermore, proving my point, "George lay where he was and whistled softly to himself. There were sounds of splashing down the river in direction Lennie had taken. George stopped whistling and listened." "Poor bastard," he said softly, and then went on ... • 65. Analysis Of The Film Invictus Many times, when I think of leaders, I tend to look their heart. Being a leader is more than that but, if a leader doesn't have a good heart than they aren't a good person in my opinion. Therefore, I believe that the film Invictus does a great job at portraying just that. This film follows two real life leaders Nelson Mandela and François Pienaar. Both come together and try to unite South Africa. After Mandela, is jailed for over 27 years his goal is to have peace amongst all the races. One very important thing that is talked about is the essence of leadership. Nelson, states that people are inspired to do greatness and so is everyone else by using the work of others. He only expects more of himself. This is what keeps him going every day and that's how he keeps growing as a person. In the film, Mandela showed qualities of a true leader. He did not hold onto resentment even though he was in jail for almost three decades. In one instance, he wanted races to be united no matter the color of their skin. When his security team needed more people, he made sure that he had white security as well. Mandela's original team did not agree with him and therefore they were furious. The head of security went to speak with Mandela and Mandela told him that change starts with them. By him having different types of races working for him this showcased that it didn't matter the color of their skin. Everyone is equal in the end. Going further into the film, Mandela showed leadership ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Racial And Economic Justice Can Be Achieved Without Violence One of the most important questions in my generation was "Can racial and economic justice be achieved without violence?" That is still a relevant question in today's world as well. However, I am here to say yes; racial and economic justice can be achieved without violence. Racial and economic injustice occurred while I was in high religious order and we were able to stop these injustices without violence. We held non–violent protests all across South Africa and it ended up being successful for our country. When your enemy is using the tactic of violence to stop us from voicing our opinions on injustices, being violent right back would only cause more issues. So I firmly stand by my opinion that racial and economic justice can be achieved without being violent. Before I begin my argument that non–violence is the only solution to these injustices, I will give a few details about my background. The Trials From World War II, South Africa "No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, 'Hey presto!' things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey" (Tutu 3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken place throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process "guarantees pardon for any confess crime 'associated with a political objective'" (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of the Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an American living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points. Ruden sees the RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough reparations. While Ruden does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC process, Tutu presents a more convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a trial system, while also explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful solution to the post–apartheid society in South Africa. Of the former Kowlander's Chowder users, the desire for a creamier formulation was the predominant reason for switching. Many of these chowder users had switched to either Fisherman's Delight or Cape Cod Chowder. Based on these findings, the research firm recommended that further research be conducted to evaluate changing Kolander's Chowder to a creamier formulation. For purposes of the test, it was recommended that two creamier formulations be developed, a "creamy" version and an "extra creamy" version. These two new formulations would be evaluated in a taste test along with Kolander's current chowder plus the two competitive brands. Still, he forgave Kumalo and worked to improve the dismal life of the black people in his valley. This poverty, he thought was the main reason for black crime. Kumalo also forgives people of his own family for their mistakes. Although, his sister Gertrude was a prostitute and his son had an illegitimate affair with a young girl, he accepted both Gertrude and the young girl into his family. A lawyer took the case of Kumalo for God, Msimangu helped him financially, Ms Lithebe provided his family shelter, and although Jarvis had lost his son to black crime, he still helped rebuild Ndotsheni. A Case Study On The Maiden 500kmplus Challenge Since the adventure bug bit on his maiden 500kmPlus challenge in 2015, the 41–year–old Capetonian has been testing his mettle cross–country and fundraising for local charities. Willie started small – his words, not mine – when he ran, cycled and paddled a distance of 581km from Mossel Bay to Franschhoek. Funds raised on his first 500kmPlus adventure went to Tin Can Town and assisted impoverished communities in Blikkiesdorp. Next up was the 511km journey along rugged West Coast, which was in aid of pet rescue organisation Fallen Angels. After that came his 646km pedal–powered expedition along the dusty R355 from Kleinsee to Ceres. But for endurance athletes like Willie, it's never quite enough, is it? Eager to up the ante on his most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The endurance athlete aimed to cover 100km each day between their sunrise departure and mid–to– late afternoon arrival at each stayover. Willie typically began each stage with about 20km of running before a 70km cycle and another 10km on foot to the finish. Where there was no pre–arranged accommodation, the team relied upon the goodwill of other people – often farmers – who permitted them to camp on their properties. In some towns, the affiliated charity organisations were able to arrange discounted or free accommodation for the team. "Once we arrived at a stop, we would look around for somewhere to stay. If there was nothing available, we would find a farmhouse, knock on the door and ask if we could pitch our tents for the night. We were strangers, but every person we met was so accommodating and trusting of us." Multi–stage endurance expeditions of this magnitude demand of athletes immense physical and mental tenacity, no matter how great their preparation. The ultra–distances Willie covered repetitively were taxing on his body, mind and gear. He also endured temperatures in the mid–30s which occasionally reached 40 degrees Celsius and threatened dehydration. "Conditions were extreme. Heat, wind, dust, rain – there was always something working against me. My backside was aching and blistered just three days after leaving Namibia. Lubricant helped for a while, but when that ran out I had to use cooking oil. It was rough." By his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 114. Desmond Tutu : The Most Influential Peacemakers Of The... "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." This quote was meant to convey the message that people should always be grateful for their families, as they are perhaps one of the greatest gifts given to an individual by God. Desmond Tutu is, and has been, one of the most influential peacemakers of the past century. However, his life had humble beginnings. Tutu was born in the small city of Klerksdorp, Transvaal, into a poor family with one other child ("Desmond Tutu – Biographical" 1). Even though he was born into a poor family and had only one sibling, he still had a fairly happy childhood. While Desmond Tutu was growing up, he noticed a lot of things that Black Africans were fighting for. Some of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, he decided on a teaching career. Luckily, Tutu got a scholarship to become a teacher ("The Famous People"1). He left his high school soon after he received the scholarship to follow in his father 's footsteps ("Desmond Tutu – Biographical"1 ). While working, he got his masters degree, and became a teacher. After being a teacher for 5 years, he woke up to the harsh reality of racism and segregation. Desmond was reminded of these things every day by his own students never even getting over the color of his skin. The students were constantly saying, "We have a black teacher," and the new students first question was always, "Do you think he 's smart enough to teach us" ("The Famous People" 1). Desmond Tutu was a famous spokesman for black people's rights as the Dean of St. Mary's Cathedral. He became the Bishop of Lesotho in 1976. Two years later, he became the General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches. He was an outspoken activist, and wrote long papers to fight against apartheid. In the year of 1983, a new constitution was brought up for South Africa to defend against the growing apartheid movement. Tutu played a very crucial role in the formation of the N.F.C to fight the changes. He won the Nobel peace prize in 1984, due to his emergence as an outspoken leader in the anti–apartheid movement. What Successful Principals Do And What Unsuccessful Ones Fail In Ponomareva's article, "What Successful Principals Do and What Unsuccessful Ones Fail to Do", the author outlines what they believe to be the key factors and attributes that propel certain principals to greater success than others. Although many of these at first glance appear to be more of the "simply common sense" variety, others give the reader pause to marinate in the greater implications of those basic characteristics. Ponomareva (2015) rationalizes that his "many years of practical interaction with school principals in the system of upgrading of qualifications and certification of pedagogical and administrative cadres" (p. 37) gives him the insight to be able to evaluate the attributes of what successful principals do. Ponomareva states that the road to being a successful principal starts long before one acquires the title. In fact, he believes that the leadership quality of professional growth begins as a person first enters a classroom as a teacher, which is honed to perfection as that teacher takes on leadership roles among their colleagues. As a classroom teacher, my philosophy is "always more, never less", and I apply this philosophy as I work within my peer unit. A person who is willing to put themselves "out there" and accept more responsibility for the good of the group I believe, is a person who can evolve into a successful leader. As a leader of a school, the principal is an inspiration to those who work with them, always keeping the moral high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I'm a genius who is ten years old and in my freshman year of high school, who has always been in advanced math, and has finally written a book! I've been wanting to write a book ever since I was six and read Little Women with my mother. My parents don't approve of my dream though. While this had originally seemed like a good product, and had been requested by Inelec, we found no prospects for the product in 2016. For 2017, I would like to raise the bus limit to 350 or even 500 in order to offer a product that could reach a wider range of potential customers. The engineering effort for this change would be minimal as the basis for the ability to include such an offering is already in the software. Patrick estimates about 3 hours of his time to implement such a change. The price for this offering would remain the same as CAPE 200. In North America, the CAPE 350/500 offering could be used to reach out to co–ops, small municipalities, etc. I would like to join the municipality and co–op organizations in order to have better access to their membership. We already have many of the TOP 100 municipalities among our users so I would believe it possible to secure additional municipalities in 2016 with some focused efforts. Men just had to accept his treatment. I, being the feminist that I was, could not understand why he would not treat both sexes equally–equally nice! My time with Elder Danisa helped me learn to be less of a feminist. I would learn from him that you DEFINITELY treat women differently than men. And, you ALWAYS treat them better! He always modeled that behavior. He also had the deepest impact on my life as a missionary because I respected so much of what he said. While growing in a more recent generation, individuals believe that there is no longer a gender divide because women no longer are forced to stay in the home and cook and clean, while the men work. Women have resisted returning to the lifestyle of being a housewife, and now are working at higher positions, receiving an education, and at times even managing their own business, etc. Whereas Bell Hooks reflects in "A Place Where the Soul Can Rest", her struggle to claim her own space as an African American woman from the American South; connecting ... Through this quote, he incorporates the message of freedom and how humanity doesn't serve others because of their race, skin color, or complexion. The Population Registration Act separated the colored–people into sections based on your ethnicity– white, colored, Native, or Asian. The last law that was put into action was the Bantu Education Act. This act meant that black students would receive poor education in comparison to white students, as they weren't taught math or science. Desmond Tutu put an end to these laws as he used his religious views against apartheid and had earned equal rights for all of the citizens of South Africa. This allowed colored people to have the right to use public transportation, to have mixed–race marriages, and to live freely. They would no longer live in shacks without water or electricity, and would have the right to live among each other, black and white together. In 1944, Desmond Tutu and all the other people of color that live in South Africa could vote together. This would embark the first time the white people would vote with people of other color, and would commence the start of an unknown freedom. Through this action, the first black president of South Africa was elected, Nelson Mandela. Allowing colored people to vote prevents history from repeating itself, and ensures that everyone will have an opinion on which government should rightfully be in power. This led to a bright future for South Africa, and made it an even better day for Desmond as he said "it was the day of liberation for all of us, black and white together." Tutu voiced ... Review Of ' Searching For Sugar Man ' Jinheng Zhang Tanya Tercero English 107 November 22, 2014 Essay 3 Second Draft A Review of "Searching for Sugar Man" The film "Searching for Sugar Man" focuses on a legend folk music star, Sixto Rudriguez, who is more popular than Elvis in South Africa but fails to gain fame in the United States. He knows nothing about his fame in South Africa and has no idea how he is deified there. The whole story is told in a linear way to present a dramatic journey of finding Rudriguez. It is not followed an old–fashioned "rough start–road to success–dream come true" style (Ning). It is a display of two parallel worlds of a legend music hermit. An artist who regards art as his ultimate faith in life remains unmoved either by gain or loss. In describing music journey of Rudriguez, the director shoots several full–length shots of Rudriguez's wandering. The first wandering shot appears at the sixth minute, where a lonely figure wanders passing by slums, CD shops, the sewer club and Detroit steel factory. "He was just a wandering spirit around the city" ("Searching for Sugar Man"). This shot indicates several elements of that time, including working class, minority nation, and large company. The solitude night of Detroit and the decaying atmosphere of this city are perfectly matched, which coordinates with Rudriguez's music as background melody.
