Choosing to Shop at Wal–Mart in Canada Or Not
Introduction
The pervasive, global impact of Wal–Mart is unmistakable and growing given the company's expertise in logistics, supply chain management, retailing,
pricing management and research into customer wants and preferences in products. Wal–Mart has become the most powerful retailer in the world
primarily by concentrating on these strengths and using them to launch new stores regularly throughout the United States, Canada and across the many
nations the company competes in (Meeks, Chen, 2011). Based on analysis of their filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) it was ascertained that Wal–Mart has the capability of opening up to ten stores a week in any given 52 week time period, with an accelerated
schedule potential of over 550 stores in 12 months (Wal–Mart Investor Relations, 2012). They are a formidable competitor to world retailing leaders
Carrefour and Tesco, and regionally strong competitors including Costco (Wal–Mart Investor Relations, 2012). With this background of research
serving as the frame of reference the two articles Report On Business (ROB) Ranks Wal–Mart Among Canada's Best Employers and The Cost of
Walmartization are assessed, followed by an analysis of Wal–Mart Canada's ethics and if they are a retailer that deserves business and customer loyalty
given their approach to managing human resources. The development and launch of their retailing locations in Canada and

TRADER JOE'S
Description:
Trader Joe's has become a multi–billion dollar national chain partly through its ability to find cheap real estate, skip name brands and smartly manage
its supply chain. It's also due to its workforce management practices. Below, excerpts from a book Trader Joe's Adventure, review the company's
management compensation, encouragement of multitasking, screening and wages, careful use of money, fun culture, sense that its people are its brand,
and communication style.
Learning Objective:
Our focus with this case is on immersing students in the fundamentals of organizational culture. Organizational culture is defined as a complex set of
shared beliefs, guiding values, behavioral norms, and basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without question, all of these things are an essential part of what makes Trader Joe's such a thriving retailer when much larger chains are struggling to
survive. But there's a saying in retail circles that the last 100 feet are the hardest. Every effort can be made to heighten the efficiency of the supply
chain and get products from the manufacturer to the retailer's back door in the most cost–effective way possible. Yet, if in–store execution is shoddy,
retailers simply end up shooting themselves in the foot. A big part of this execution––or the last 100 feet––at Trader Joe's is its employees, people who
like what they do, go out of their way to help customers, and even engage in some suggestive selling. They are a major reason for the company's
success. After all, few employers––particularly in retailing––can boast of having such high levels of employee loyalty, not to mention extremely low
turnover.
Compensate workers well The core of this allegiance is a wage and benefits package that is typically far more competitive than that of most companies
in the supermarket industry. Wages may attract high–quality employees, but wages are not necessarily the reason they remain loyal, as any human
resources expert can attest. Employees stay because Trader Joe's has created a culture of success: an

Video Storyboard Analysis
Whether you are watching the TV or a video on YouTube, news stories are everywhere. Before these stories are published, an abundance of filming,
editing, and thinking goes into each second of your enjoyment. Interviews are to be completed, anchors are to be filmed, and many steps are needed
to complete every story. Four years ago I was introduced to Media Broadcasting and since then, I have grown my knowledge in creating, and
producing, a news story video.
Before you begin anything in the video world, you first ought to think of an idea to report on. This is easily the most difficult part in the entire
process because you are required to prove your creative side. Not everyone is born with a creative mind, like myself, but once you begin to ... Show

An anchor is crucial to a news story because this designated person introduces, explains, and concludes the project. Once you have an idea of what
your interviewee(s) have said, the script writing process comes much more natural. Script writing means that you are creating the words your anchor
will read. Typically the anchor will proceed the script. For example, at the BBN, our anchors for monthly broadcasts and individual stories create
their own scripts because they are more in touch with the story than an outsider would be. An exception to this could be TV station anchors because
there are multiple anchors. The beginning of a script is a general introduction that presents the story and gives a brief description of what the project is
about. The anchor is supposed to be the one who speaks more–so than the person(s) who had been interviewed. Paraphrasing what one had said before
is a common technique that can help the viewers better understand the point one is trying to bring in. This technique helps the story analysis and
enables the script writer to put their own style into the presentation. Commonly this is used for the explanation, or middle of the script. After the story
is explained, like in a paper, one needs to conclude everything they have just said. The conclusion will summarize the information you have presented
without adding anything new.

Marketing Of The Apple Corporation Essay
Apple, Inc. engages in the design, manufacture, and marketing of mobile communication, media devices, personal computers, and portable digital
music players (Forbes Media LLC, 2016). The Apple Corporation offers a wide variety products and services such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac
computer. The company was founded by Steven Paul Jobs, Ronald Gerald Wayne, and Stephen G. Wozniak on April 1, 1976 (Rawlinson, 2016). The
original Apple computer was to be priced at a meager $666.66 for consumer purchase and $500.00 wholesale. In reality, not all business decisions
belong the strategic circle; the strategic decisions are those which doing something 'differently' from competitors and that difference make a sustainable
advantage (Mazar, Abba, & Ali Mahdi, 2015). Research of the Apple Corporation suggests that Broad Differentiation is used as a primary strategy.
Apple makes itself stand out in market through this strategy. Broad Differentiation (Innovation) strategy focuses on enhancing product quality,
performance and design (Sumer, 2012). Apple also uses the premium pricing strategy also known as ( Best Cost Provider Strategy) which targets the
customers who develop a special kind of intimacy with the product that ultimately leads to the development of loyalty (Mazar, Abba, & Ali Mahdi,
2015). It is not just by price that Apple differentiates itself from the competitors but also world–class design philosophy, seamless connectivity and high
satisfaction assuring user interface.

Chicken Wings Mystery Behind
Chicken Wings: The Mystery Behind
Chicken wings are among the top foods consumed by Americans each year. As a country we eat an average of twenty–five billion chicken wings per
year, so we can see chicken wings are a food many people have come to enjoy enjoy just half a century. A Buffalo wing is a chicken wingette or
drumette that is deep–fried, unbreaded, and coated in vinegar–based cayenne pepper hot sauce and butter. (Wells–Lynch). They have grown in
popularity immensely and have now been considered a classic American food for over half a century now. Although boneless chicken wings are
considered to be the most popular style of wings nowadays and the common flavors of wings have evolved over the years into new ones such as honey

Approximately fifty–three years ago on March 4, 1964 Teressa Bellissimo, the owner of The Anchor Bar, created the very first batch of chicken wings
out of necessity. Teressa Bellissimo basically had to put together the recipe after wrongfully receiving a shipment of wings instead of chicken. By this
time, the wings of the chicken were one of the least desired parts of the chicken. Today, the bar that still claims to be the home of the originalBuffalo
wing, and its modern–day menu offers up a purportedly authentic story from the son of the original owners, claiming that his mom made the wings as a
one–off late–night snack for him and his friends (Thompson). Since chicken wings were once considered a scrap meat and were really cheap she
typically used them in her soups at the bar. On this particular night she was trying to get rid of her extra chicken wings because she was not going to
be able to make enough soup to use them all up. Therefore, she decided to deep–fry the extra wings that she was not going to use in the soup. Once
they were cooked to a crispy golden brown she tossed them in some hot sauce and served them to the late night customers that were present. That night
she served the wings with a couple celery sticks and a small cup of blue cheese. This traditional side choice compliments the buffalo wings so well and
it stuck. Today this is something that is still carried on by all restaurants that serve chicken wings. As pointed out previously, chicken wings can come
in different styles such as traditional naked, traditional breaded, and boneless. Yet, The Anchor Bar is known for creating the naked boneless wing,
which has no breading on the outside of the meet. This is one of the main differences between The Anchor Bar's wings and the wings from John

The Impact Of Digital Music On The Business Industry
Music retail has been a thriving international industry for almost a century. And like most successful industries, it has experienced drastic developments
in technology to ensure growth and success. From the invention of the phonograph in 1877, through the height of vinyl records in the 1970s and the
shift to cassettes and compact discs in the eighties, consumers clung to the latest technologies, which made the purchase and ownership of recorded
music increasingly simple. Through each of these developments, small retailers thrived as the center of the music retail industry with small territories
and loyal customer bases. However, since the turn of the century the industry has taken a drastic technological turn. Digital music markets... Show more

The unique methods of small retailers has given way to a niche market in which local music stores are able to remain a part of the music retail industry.
In recent years, the rise of technology in the changing music retail industry has prompted small independent retailers to develop improved relations
with local communities and create a unique and enriching experience for customers in increased efforts to remain relevant and profitable.
The advent and evolution of online music services has had profound effects on the entire music retail industry as it has changed the product and
primary methods of commerce while also lowering revenue. The most popular and well–known of these services is iTunes, the digital music market of
Apple. iTunes' business was one of the first to bring large amounts of easily accessible music to the general public through digital means,
revolutionizing music retail. Adrian Covert, of CNNMoney, discusses the prolific effects of iTunes on themusic industry, stating, "Since the
introduction the iTunes Music Store on April 28, 2003, music sales have plummeted in the United States –– from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion
last year, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. When adjusted for inflation, revenue has been more than halved since Apple
launched the iTunes Music Store" (Covert). The extreme decrease in

Boating Research Paper
Summer brings great weather which means an increase in recreational boating activity, there can be many dangers while boating, both from forces
outside your boat and from things on your boat. Here are some suggestions for staying safe on the water during the boating season. The number one
tip for staying safe out on the water is to always wear a life jacket while boating. You should make sure that there are enough personal flotation devices
(PFDs) readily accessible on your boat for everyone out on the water with you. PFDs must be Coast Guard approved, in good and serviceable
condition, and the appropriate size for the intended user. Check with your state boating safety officials and the Coast Guard for full regulations.

The fire extinguisher should be mounted somewhere readily accessible and away from the galley or the engine where a fire is more likely to start. In
addition to fire hazards, you can encounter problems from you gasoline system as well. If your boat uses gasoline for electrical generation, mechanical
power, or propulsion, then you need a ventilation system. Depending on your boat, you'll either need a natural ventilation system (a supply opening or
an exhaust opening) or a powered ventilation system. Check with the Coast Guard for information on your boat. In order to avoid carbon monoxide
poisoning, carry a carbon monoxide detector. The gas, which is odorless and colorless, can kill in minutes. Sources of carbon monoxide include
improperly vented exhaust or combustion, ranging from fires to barbecue grills. Before you head out on the water, always check the weather
forecast. Calm seas can turn into rough waters. Listen carefully to all weather and storm advisories. Your life raft should be checked annually to
make sure it's in good working condition. A friend or family member should always know your trip plans before you leave. They should know where

Small Businesses: Threats Inability to Compete Wal–Mart has had immense success since its inception in the early1960s, having been able to expand
globally by offering a large selection of products at low prices. While Wal–Mart has enjoyed this success, many independently owned businesses have
been unable to compete with the retail giant's economies of scale. Local businesses, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, pet stores and flower shops,
have suffered from the creation of a Wal–Mart in many cities across the United States. According to a report released by Wal–Mart Watch back in
2005, Wal–Mart's expansion in Iowa is "solely responsible for the extensive closings of mom–and–pop stores, including 555 grocery stores, 298
hardware stores, 293 building suppliers, 161 variety shops, 158 women's stores, and 116 pharmacies" (Sobel). Then there is also the Chicago area
WalMart that casued "82 of 306 small businesses in the surrounding neighborhood" to shutter their doors "within 18 month's" (Casey). Its because of
events like this that New York City has fought hard to keep Walmart out of its city and shows how a Wal

Women as News Anchors Essay
Women As News Anchors
Women in all careers are striving to gain equality in the work force today, and female television news anchors are definitely part of the fight. The
road to television news anchoring is a rocky one, where only a few women survive and many fail. Where progress was once thought to have been
made, there aren't many females getting ahead in the world of television news. Today, there is a very slow, if any, gain in the numbers of women who
succeed. There are many questions surrounding the subject of women in television news, and I will attempt to answer relevant ones in this paper. How
have the women that actually make it to the top and succeed as anchorwomen, done it?

This was relevant to my paper in answering the question of why there are certain expectations of women in television news. The textbook, Gender,
Race and Class in Media had a few chapters relevant to my paper. Larry Gross wrote a chapter titled, "Out of the
Mainstream: Sexual Minorities and Mass Media." He discussed various stereotypes in our society that lead to stereotypes in all areas of our lives. I
found some of my sources from Oasis, and also used a couple of magazine articles that were relevant to the subject. I focused on the questions that I
wanted to answer and drew points from the material that were relevant and provided substantial evidence to answer my questions. I found that
opinions and thoughts of women who had been through the business were most helpful. There was one big limitation I faced if I wanted to prove that
women in television news were discriminated upon based on sex and age. Women have been fired from theiranchor positions, and it has seemed that
the reasons were because of looks or aging. But this is hard to prove. In August, Carol
Schrader, a woman anchor from KETV–TV in Omaha, Nebraska was asked to leave.
She said that it was because of her age, although her bosses didn't say that was the reason, stating that she wasn't doing her job. She was replace by a
young, blond woman. Also, when Marlene Sanders was asked to leave ABC, instead of saying point–blank that she was too old, her boss told

issues that work within your budget and thought process. We only ask that you read our proposal and approach it with an open mind.

As a result of this and the age of the production equipment turn around for orders can be three to four weeks. If the process takes too long a
competitor can take away business. Especially if the competitor has a factory that is more up to date with their technology and processes.
3. Flexibility in filling order(s) At the present time Albatross has very little flexibility in filling orders. As stated above, the turnaround time to switch
machines over is very long. With each anchor and the age of the equipment, order take too long to fill.
4. Technology
An effective design process should: 1. match product or service characteristics with customer requirements 2. ensure that customer requirements are
met in the simplest and least costly manner 3. reduces the time required to design a new product or service 4. minimizes the revisions necessary to
make new designs workable
This all relates to technology. When the technology is up to date it reduces process times and in the end it helps to create more profit for the company
because work is done faster, customer needs are met in a timely fashion and there is less waste.
5. Capacity and facilities At present the layout of the Albatross Anchor factory is not at all efficient. In order to be efficient the factory should ensure
an easy flow of work, material, people and information. In the current state the raw materials are too far away from the foundry, the finished products

According to Northen (1984), the reasons of renovation of shopping mall are functional obsolescence of the centre, change in surrounding demographic
pattern, new competition with nearby shopping centre, and withdrawal of major anchor tenant.
To deal with these forces, renovation works are to be carried out. According to Hassanaian and Al–Mudhei (2006), renovation could bring positive
effects to the shopping centre. The four major elements of renovation includes design and layout, catchment area, trade and tenant mix, and branding.
The renovation could improve the internal space and facilities, maximize the profit, capture more potential customers and build a good image.

Moving the warehouse in between the shipping and receiving departments will reduce the amount of time needed to pull orders for shipment thus
reducing the staging time needed. By having one location for both the finished goods and raw materials allows for the cross training between shipping
and receiving as well as allows both departments to have access to each part of the building they need without adding extra work to one department.
(03) A final change that needs to be done is to update the administrative offices, and shipping and receiving departments with new technology and
ergonomically correct desks. This should be implemented within 6 months which will allow the flow of information between the locations to much

Essay On Lame Hypnotic Patterns
Frankly, I could go on for days explaining countless ways that NLP & Hypnosis can help both Men & Women become better lovers... AND... to find
better lovers.
That said, this is just an article, and you're just looking for some juicy content that you can start to use immediately.
Before I get into the really good stuff, let me say that this isn't about being one of those cheeseballs with really lame hypnotic language patterns. Very
far from it.
To give you a bit of a chuckle, here's an example of what I mean by lame hypnotic patterns:
I once had a student of one of my NLP Training programs tell me that he had a "great technique" he learned from his "Pickup Artist Guru", and he
asked if he could share it in front of the class.
Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I then informed him (after I stopped laughing hysterically– which took a while LOL...) that I do believe it*could* work, but not because of the lame
language pattern.
It could work, because he had enough confidence to dare to try something so incredibly lame.
It's the confidence that would work. Not the lame language pattern.
Anyway, here are 5 tips you can actually use that WILL work and will dramatically enhance your experiences in the bedroom...
1. Learn how to anchor peak states (both emotional and physical). If you don't know what an anchor is, in the simplest terms, it's an external stimulus
that creates a consistent internal response. For example, it's like when you hear a special love song, and it makes you think about your partner in a
romantic way.
That's just one example of many different kinds of anchors.
Anchors can be set via any, and or all, of our 5 senses, meaning visually, auditorilly, kinestheticlly (meaning touch), smell, and or taste.
One of many great ways to create a powerful anchor is to gently touch your partner's ear, or ears (some like tongue, some don't, but almost all like a
very– very soft touch) during peak emotional and physical experiences. Yes, that means during

Albatross Anchor Operational Changes
Introduction
Albatross Anchors is a small family owned business that began in 1976. The company has grown exponentially over the years with more than one
hundred and thirty employees. As the company grew, their operational issues in the production and administrative area grew as well. The organization
has been faced with a lack of updated technology, out dated equipment, an inefficient layout which violates the U.S. safety and environmental
standards, and a disorganized administration office. Therefore, production is not running smoothly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be competitive enough and be able to take advantage of sudden rises in demand, Albatross Anchor needs to develop two manufacturing
lines. This will ensure each anchor has its own production line. The two lines will also ensure that there is no need for changeovers or switch of
equipments which will result in faster production. Also, this will meet sudden demand changes and increase competitiveness. This long term pursuit
will effectively reduce the production time required and increase batch production of each anchor model. In order for the company to take advantage
of increases in demand and achieve high operational standards, the building needs a complete renovation. For example, the offices and the plant must
be separated and more space given to production areas, since joined areas are cluttered and unsafe. They must Adopt a new layout. A modern plant
design and safer working environments will permit faster production. Additionally, the enhancement of safety will reduce cases of potential work
injuries, which could be very costly indeed. (O'Toole & Mackenzie, 2011). (03) Storage: Back to speed in production and an efficient operational

Waltz on the Danube Essay
Waltz on the Danube Executive Summary The purpose of this case is to establish the viability of the ВЂ75 million shopping center project located
along the Danube River in the city of Gyor. As the director of Hungarian operations for ECE Projektmanagement Dr. Philipp von Wilmowsky had
worked for two years on the 30,300 square meter shopping center. So while Gyor lack significant a shopping center thus creating a site that had great
potential there were several major questions that would define the success of the project. The question that transcends the project is whether equity

So while the growth potential facilitates opportunity, the lower income per capital must be recovered through greater reach. Lower levels of
development and therefore less competition makes this possible but is a major question mark of whether the market in Gyor will support the
development project. The success of the 2002 opening of a suburban mall near Budapest would be supportive the viability of the potential market in
Gyor. Based on the location, the economic factors, and the demographics of the area, Gyor would also be the next logical site for ECE to expand. The
development project therefore makes sense in Gyor, providing a strong investment opportunity to add value to the company. Are rents adequate to
support this development? The tenant structure of the shopping center is an important factor in ensuring rent is adequate to make the project viable.
The fact that Philipp conceded the hypermarket could have a negative effect on the overriding success of the project. ECE strategy typically relied on
these large self–service retail stores. Hypermarkets are very desirable to customers since the warehouse structure enable the stores to offer a wide
variety of products (i.e. fresh food, beverages, home supplies, electronics, clothing, car accessories, garden furniture etc.) at discounted prices. This lack

Albatross Anchor is a small family owned business located in Smallville, MA. Albatross Anchor is located on 12 acres of land. They started out with
four employees in 1976 and grow over the years to over 100. The company manufactures two types of anchors in different sizes. The types are the
mushroom/bell anchor and the snap hook anchor. Albatross Anchor has many manufacturing problems which are the cause of the company not doing as
well as it should be. The company is antiquated, worn and does not meet government guidelines. Albatross can be a company of the future with the

Question one
A. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E. The capacity and facilities have out grown what the company has now. The company was designed to be a small manufacturer. Albatross is
sitting on 12 acres of land they would be able to expand to make room for better technology. They have plenty of land to become an aggressive
modern company, who is producing a top quality product. They can be the top producer of anchors with the changes that need to come about.
Capacity is the maximum amount capable of producing. Another why to expand the capacity is to consider outsourcing. Outsourcing would come
into play when they cannot set up the equipment and they need to produce product to satisfy an order. Some things to consider are the cost of
making the product, such as labor, raw materials, and overhead. The facilities need to be made larger. The area that holds the raw materials should
be expanded and should be close to the receiving area. Finished products should be close to the shipping area. This would cut down on time by not
having to move product from such a long distance. The receiving and shipping should be together on the side where imports and exports are done. F.
Service to customers is not very good. Long lead times and bad shipping methods are cause for problems. Accessibility and convenience are also a
cause for concern.

Introduction
Question one
Challenge one: Material Purchasing, Albatross Anchor has small storage that are located away from the production area requiring smaller amounts of
material to be order due to lack of storage. Increasing storage will allow for larger amount of raw materials to be kept on hand and reduce the cost
associated with order multiple smaller batches of raw materials.
Challenge two: Inventory/Shipping: Shipping and receiving are sharing facilities due to one railroad spur being available. The company is having

Complication one
Cost of Production: Current manufacturing costs are $8.00 per pound for mushroom/bell anchors and $11.00 per pound for snag hook anchors. Albatross
Anchor charges the same per unit as their competitors. However, the profit margin can sometimes be as much as 35% less (on some of the anchors)
because of operations inefficiencies. $8 per pound for mushroom/bell anchors $11 per pound on for snag hook anchor
Complication two Economies of Scale in material purchasing: The firm is not able to realize economies since they are not able to produce larger
orders as easy. They are not able to meet capacity utilization within the plant due to operational inefficiencies. They can only produce small batches.
Scale economies have brought down the unit costs of production and have fed through to lower prices for consumers. Economies of scale are a key
advantage for a business that is able to grow. Most firms find that, as their production output increases, they can achieve lower costs per unit.
Economies of scale are the cost advantages that a business can exploit by expanding their scale of production. The effect of economies of scale is to
reduce the average (unit) costs of production.
Complication three
Cost of Raw Materials Sitting Idle in the Warehouse: The raw materials sit idle until they are ready to ship out which leads to large cost of holding raw
material in inventory.

My Father Was a Paradox Essay
I'll miss my father, I already miss him, greatly... I'll miss his stories, his laughter, the fire of his opinions, and especially the quiet strength of him. Yet,
I think it's one of the truths of the world that the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can't miss, because we carry so much of them with
us.
My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who's
argued with him, and that's quite a few of us, knew that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. On the other hand, at the same time, he was

I'll never, in this life at least, be able to go to him for any more answers, but as long as I live, I'll do what he taught me... ask the questions, think,
and find my own answers. And in my heart and in my memory, he'll be there by example, guiding me. And with him will be his stories. He was full
of stories. There was nothing he didn't have a story or a joke for. And he was always such a wonderful subject for stories.
I cannot forget his tale about sneaking into the doctor's office with his friend so they could memorize the eye chart and pass the medical exam to
join the Navy. Stories that end with a father looking down at a little boy, dazed, scared and bruised and saying simply, "Don't do that. You could hurt
yourself." Stories about the man who unscrewed the table leg that came between him and the pretty woman sitting next to him at a dinner party.

Bentonville, Arkansas. Within thirty years, the small local discount retailer grew to one of the largest retail companies in the United States of America.
Now it stands as the largest retailer in the world. As the largest retailer, Wal

Working a low level job at Wal–Mart will allow people to earn money to pay for the essentials in life while gaining valuable work experience which.
This may help them acquire a better job down the road. For most, their job at Wal–Mart will help pay the bills until something better comes along but
for others it's a job that will be the start of a long career. Wal–Mart provides many employment and growth opportunities making the community a
more cheerful place to live.
The sheer size of Wal–Mart allows them to negotiate better pricing from a manufacturer and/or shipping companies and pass those savings on to the
customer. It is true that some small retailers may not be able to compete directly with Wal–Mart's pricing. Some critics also add, once Wal–Mart drives
out competition in an area they will increase their prices. Wal–Mart enters with low prices and large selections then maintains those low prices. De
Coster and Edmonds go on to ask, "Where is the evidence of Wal–Mart ever driving up prices after becoming established in the market" (633)?
Wal–Mart must also compete with larger specialty retailers such as Home Depot and Lowes in the hardware/home improvement market, Bass Pro and

mature or declining phase of its product life style, because of the declining sales. Furthermore, according to estimates, market share has eroded away
to 7 per cent, as of 2010, and is far below the desirable rate 15 per cent (Johnson, 2011, p. 3). Also, the brand image is being heavily relied upon and
the bottom line is not showing significant increase in the years presented in the journal article. Macy's is afloat due to a strong management team and the

Data Collection And Analysis : Analysis Essay
Data Collection and Analysis The behavior was observed from a large sample of people. This included twenty people shopping alone and twenty
people shopping in a group, for a total of forty subjects, each ranging in ages from approximately 19 to 40 years old. The subjects were observed
from the time they entered the store until the time they left. The reasoning behind this was to see the buying behavior differences for the whole

included the amount of time spent inside the store, the amount of money spent, the interactions with associates, and the areas of the stores that were

department store environments were ideal to see a multitude of social situations between varying people. These bigger stores ideally would have
many people shopping alone and in a group so comparisons can be made between the two, while also allowing a large enough environment where
changes could be made to cater to people shopping in a group. However, the pilot study conducted was vital in seeing what worked and what did not.

Dillard's Executive Summary
In 1938, William Dillard started an upscale department store known as Dillard's. Dillard's started with five stores in Arkansas, which multiplied to
over 300 stores across the country. This eighty plus year expansion resulted in $6.6 billion dollars in net sales in fiscal year 2014. Dillard's primary
method of growth is their numerous acquisitions of local or smaller department stores.
Dillard's primary business process in adding value to their company is by generating high sales at low prices of high quality goods. Their procurement
process is very important especially at the Little Rock, Arkansas which happens to be headquarter. This location manages the purchasing and
distribution for the regional centers around the nation. The front line supervisor is David Terry. The area manager and the store director control the
ordering and replenishment. The company's goal is to effectively plan in advance for his unforeseeable future, creating a scheduling system ... Show

In order to effectively do this, the Dillard uses a cross–docking break–bulk process. Shipments are broken down at the docking bay locations as totes
are scanned, broken down, and organized. The hanging cart racks are scanned and organized, then the docking bay measure the location's accuracy and
performance. Store management (AIMS) controls random audits for quality assurance. Products are scanned for tracking at the DC location, then are
sent through a conveyor belt system for delivery. Products are packaged by the identical clothing articles, mixed clothing articles (same brand or type),
or the luxury clothing articles (separated and hung). After that, shipments are loaded onto trucks and ready for delivery to docking bays around the
region. The metrics are implemented by the docking bay management to ensure the quality of performances in proper packaging and shipping process

Transforming an Organization
Running head: ORGANIZATION 1 Transforming an Organization Linda Nance MGT 435– Organizational Change Instructor: Dr. Brian Collins
October 12, 2015 Running head: ORGANIZATION2 Transforming an Organization Whether you have a large organization or a small one, the only
thing that you can count on, the only thing that is constant is change. Change is needed in order to for companies to move forward and keep up with
the needs of their customers. If you are the owner or the manager, you know that you need a change, but you are uneasy about the challenges that you
may face, or unsure as to how to go about making the change happen. One organization that is constantly changing is... Show more content on

Sam Walton's vision is to have the lowest prices. His strategies are to cut the prices as low as possible, lowering the markup, which would increase their
sales profit because they would have more customers. Walmart focuses more on helping the customer same money than just on an increase of sales.
Another strategy is to build relationships not only with the customer, but also building a solid working relationship with the employees and suppliers.
Without the customer, employees and suppliers, there would not be a successful store. Another strategy is to do research on what works best for the
customer, such as the layouts of the store, merchandising techniques, creating a family atmosphere and to capitalize on every cost saving opportunity.
Walmart inevitably wants to provide the customer quality goods, when they want them, with competitive prices to ultimately build and maintain a
reputation of trustworthiness. Another strategy is for the customer to be able to receive merchandise as soon as possible, without it being shipped from
the supplier. The change that was made was to build distribution centers throughout the United States that has a supply of merchandise that is carried in
most of the Walmart Supercenters. This way, merchandise is shipped from the distribution to the individual Walmart Stores and customers do not have
to wait as long for their products. The fourth stage is communicating the change (Weiss, 2012). Communicating is the key to

Attract and Retain Employees
In order to attract and retain people of the same values, one must first know what the organization values are. "We're committed to our 'Who We Are'
values because they set a strong foundation for us as a company–– a foundation of caring about people and each other," states Vice President Colleen
Wegman on Wegmans' official site. Shared values between employees and the organization make it uncomplicated to attract and retain employees.
Wegmans is way above the market standards of treating their employees through higher wages and a slew of benefits.
Organizations Affect Community Cultures
Wegmans' model of contribution and giving back to its community proves to be a successful and profitable way of doing business. Wegmans'
philosophy of taking care of their employees, the customers and community that keeps them in business, insures that they will continue to expand and
build positive relations with whomever they encounter. Wegman helps support the communities it surrounds by providing support for charities,
employee scholarships, customer promotions and maintaining sustainability.
Introduction
Wegmans is a family–owned, privately–held company located in Rochester, New York. In 1921 John and Walter Wegman purchased the Steel Grocery
Co. and "expanded operations to include general groceries and bakery operations." (Brady, 2009) One of its distinguishing

Walmart In Canada

  • 1. Walmart in Canada Choosing to Shop at Wal–Mart in Canada Or Not Introduction The pervasive, global impact of Wal–Mart is unmistakable and growing given the company's expertise in logistics, supply chain management, retailing, pricing management and research into customer wants and preferences in products. Wal–Mart has become the most powerful retailer in the world primarily by concentrating on these strengths and using them to launch new stores regularly throughout the United States, Canada and across the many nations the company competes in (Meeks, Chen, 2011). Based on analysis of their filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) it was ascertained that Wal–Mart has the capability of opening up to ten stores a week in any given 52 week time period, with an accelerated schedule potential of over 550 stores in 12 months (Wal–Mart Investor Relations, 2012). They are a formidable competitor to world retailing leaders Carrefour and Tesco, and regionally strong competitors including Costco (Wal–Mart Investor Relations, 2012). With this background of research serving as the frame of reference the two articles Report On Business (ROB) Ranks Wal–Mart Among Canada's Best Employers and The Cost of Walmartization are assessed, followed by an analysis of Wal–Mart Canada's ethics and if they are a retailer that deserves business and customer loyalty given their approach to managing human resources. Without question, all of these things are an essential part of what makes Trader Joe's such a thriving retailer when much larger chains are struggling to survive. But there's a saying in retail circles that the last 100 feet are the hardest. Every effort can be made to heighten the efficiency of the supply chain and get products from the manufacturer to the retailer's back door in the most cost–effective way possible. Yet, if in–store execution is shoddy, retailers simply end up shooting themselves in the foot. A big part of this execution––or the last 100 feet––at Trader Joe's is its employees, people who like what they do, go out of their way to help customers, and even engage in some suggestive selling. They are a major reason for the company's success. After all, few employers––particularly in retailing––can boast of having such high levels of employee loyalty, not to mention extremely low turnover. Compensate workers well The core of this allegiance is a wage and benefits package that is typically far more competitive than that of most companies in the supermarket industry. Wages may attract high–quality employees, but wages are not necessarily the reason they remain loyal, as any human resources expert can attest. Employees stay because Trader Joe's has created a culture of success: an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before these stories are published, an abundance of filming, editing, and thinking goes into each second of your enjoyment. Interviews are to be completed, anchors are to be filmed, and many steps are needed to complete every story. Four years ago I was introduced to Media Broadcasting and since then, I have grown my knowledge in creating, and producing, a news story video. Before you begin anything in the video world, you first ought to think of an idea to report on. This is easily the most difficult part in the entire process because you are required to prove your creative side. Not everyone is born with a creative mind, like myself, but once you begin to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An anchor is crucial to a news story because this designated person introduces, explains, and concludes the project. Once you have an idea of what your interviewee(s) have said, the script writing process comes much more natural. Script writing means that you are creating the words your anchor will read. Typically the anchor will proceed the script. For example, at the BBN, our anchors for monthly broadcasts and individual stories create their own scripts because they are more in touch with the story than an outsider would be. An exception to this could be TV station anchors because there are multiple anchors. The beginning of a script is a general introduction that presents the story and gives a brief description of what the project is about. The anchor is supposed to be the one who speaks more–so than the person(s) who had been interviewed. Paraphrasing what one had said before is a common technique that can help the viewers better understand the point one is trying to bring in. This technique helps the story analysis and enables the script writer to put their own style into the presentation. Commonly this is used for the explanation, or middle of the script. After the story is explained, like in a paper, one needs to conclude everything they have just said. The conclusion will summarize the information you have presented without adding anything new. ... Approximately fifty–three years ago on March 4, 1964 Teressa Bellissimo, the owner of The Anchor Bar, created the very first batch of chicken wings out of necessity. Teressa Bellissimo basically had to put together the recipe after wrongfully receiving a shipment of wings instead of chicken. By this time, the wings of the chicken were one of the least desired parts of the chicken. Today, the bar that still claims to be the home of the originalBuffalo wing, and its modern–day menu offers up a purportedly authentic story from the son of the original owners, claiming that his mom made the wings as a one–off late–night snack for him and his friends (Thompson). Since chicken wings were once considered a scrap meat and were really cheap she typically used them in her soups at the bar. On this particular night she was trying to get rid of her extra chicken wings because she was not going to be able to make enough soup to use them all up. Therefore, she decided to deep–fry the extra wings that she was not going to use in the soup. Once they were cooked to a crispy golden brown she tossed them in some hot sauce and served them to the late night customers that were present. That night she served the wings with a couple celery sticks and a small cup of blue cheese. This traditional side choice compliments the buffalo wings so well and it stuck. Today this is something that is still carried on by all restaurants that serve chicken wings. As pointed out previously, chicken wings can come in different styles such as traditional naked, traditional breaded, and boneless. Yet, The Anchor Bar is known for creating the naked boneless wing, which has no breading on the outside of the meet. This is one of the main differences between The Anchor Bar's wings and the wings from John Young's Wing 'n Things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Small Businesses: Threats Inability to Compete Wal–Mart has had immense success since its inception in the early1960s, having been able to expand globally by offering a large selection of products at low prices. While Wal–Mart has enjoyed this success, many independently owned businesses have been unable to compete with the retail giant's economies of scale. Local businesses, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, pet stores and flower shops, have suffered from the creation of a Wal–Mart in many cities across the United States. According to a report released by Wal–Mart Watch back in 2005, Wal–Mart's expansion in Iowa is "solely responsible for the extensive closings of mom–and–pop stores, including 555 grocery stores, 298 hardware stores, 293 building suppliers, 161 variety shops, 158 women's stores, and 116 pharmacies" (Sobel). So while Gyor lack significant a shopping center thus creating a site that had great potential there were several major questions that would define the success of the project. So while the growth potential facilitates opportunity, the lower income per capital must be recovered through greater reach. Lower levels of development and therefore less competition makes this possible but is a major question mark of whether the market in Gyor will support the development project. The success of the 2002 opening of a suburban mall near Budapest would be supportive the viability of the potential market in Gyor. Based on the location, the economic factors, and the demographics of the area, Gyor would also be the next logical site for ECE to expand. The development project therefore makes sense in Gyor, providing a strong investment opportunity to add value to the company. Are rents adequate to support this development? The tenant structure of the shopping center is an important factor in ensuring rent is adequate to make the project viable. The fact that Philipp conceded the hypermarket could have a negative effect on the overriding success of the project. ECE strategy typically relied on these large self–service retail stores. Hypermarkets are very desirable to customers since the warehouse structure enable the stores to offer a wide variety of products (i.e. fresh food, beverages, home supplies, electronics, clothing, car accessories, garden furniture etc.) at discounted prices. Albatross is sitting on 12 acres of land they would be able to expand to make room for better technology. They have plenty of land to become an aggressive modern company, who is producing a top quality product. They can be the top producer of anchors with the changes that need to come about. Capacity is the maximum amount capable of producing. Another why to expand the capacity is to consider outsourcing. Outsourcing would come into play when they cannot set up the equipment and they need to produce product to satisfy an order. Some things to consider are the cost of making the product, such as labor, raw materials, and overhead. The facilities need to be made larger. The area that holds the raw materials should be expanded and should be close to the receiving area. Finished products should be close to the shipping area. This would cut down on time by not having to move product from such a long distance. The receiving and shipping should be together on the side where imports and exports are done. F. Service to customers is not very good. Long lead times and bad shipping methods are cause for problems. Accessibility and convenience are also a cause for concern. Increasing storage will allow for larger amount of raw materials to be kept on hand and reduce the cost associated with order multiple smaller batches of raw materials. Challenge two: Inventory/Shipping: Shipping and receiving are sharing facilities due to one railroad spur being available. The company is having problems producing enough products for the customers. Complication one Cost of Production: Current manufacturing costs are $8.00 per pound for mushroom/bell anchors and $11.00 per pound for snag hook anchors. Albatross Anchor charges the same per unit as their competitors. However, the profit margin can sometimes be as much as 35% less (on some of the anchors) because of operations inefficiencies. $8 per pound for mushroom/bell anchors $11 per pound on for snag hook anchor Complication two Economies of Scale in material purchasing: The firm is not able to realize economies since they are not able to produce larger orders as easy. They are not able to meet capacity utilization within the plant due to operational inefficiencies. They can only produce small batches. Scale economies have brought down the unit costs of production and have fed through to lower prices for consumers. Economies of scale are a key advantage for a business that is able to grow. Most firms find that, as their production output increases, they can achieve lower costs per unit. Economies of scale are the cost advantages that a business can exploit by expanding their scale of production. The effect of economies of scale is to reduce the average (unit) costs of production. Complication three Cost of Raw Materials Sitting Idle in the Warehouse: The raw materials sit idle until they are ready to ship out which leads to large cost of holding raw material in inventory.

Yet, I think it's one of the truths of the world that the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can't miss, because we carry so much of them with us. My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who's argued with him, and that's quite a few of us, knew that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. De Coster and Edmonds go on to ask, "Where is the evidence of Wal–Mart ever driving up prices after becoming established in the market" (633)? Wal–Mart must also compete with larger specialty retailers such as Home Depot and Lowes in the hardware/home improvement market, Bass Pro and Cabela's in the hunting/outdoor market, Sports Authority and Dick's Sporting Goods in the recreational sports market, and PetsMart and PetCo in the pet care market. This included twenty people shopping alone and twenty people shopping in a group, for a total of forty subjects, each ranging in ages from approximately 19 to 40 years old. The subjects were observed from the time they entered the store until the time they left. The reasoning behind this was to see the buying behavior differences for the whole experience and figure out which areas of the store could be improved in order to appeal to groups of people shopping. The behaviors observed included the amount of time spent inside the store, the amount of money spent, the interactions with associates, and the areas of the stores that were navigated. Originally, the research was going to be conducted in large–scale departments stores found at malls such as Nordstrom or Macys. It was thought that sampling in stores such as these were a great way to gain more data on both females and males, along with families and friends because department store environments were ideal to see a multitude of social situations between varying people. These bigger stores ideally would have many people shopping alone and in a group so comparisons can be made between the two, while also allowing a large enough environment where changes could be made to cater to people shopping in a group. Another strategy is to build relationships not only with the customer, but also building a solid working relationship with the employees and suppliers. Another strategy is to do research on what works best for the customer, such as the layouts of the store, merchandising techniques, creating a family atmosphere and to capitalize on every cost saving opportunity.
