Emily Short Story Analysis
What really happened to Homer that night? Well, we will never know, but I believe it was Emily's
doing. Emily was a very quiet and creepy middle aged woman who was overweight.
Her home was very old and square, it says in the story "It was a big, squarish frame house that had
once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome
style of the seventies, set on what had once been our most select street". As you see from the
evidence from the story her house was big and had cupolas. That neighborhood was empty because
of the garages and cotton gins they obliterated the august names. She used to talk to the other people
in town before her father passed away. But after the tragedy of her father ... Show more content on

If he said yes, she would give him the gift. If he choose not to accept her marriage proposal she
would make him suffer by poisoning him. So she got an idea to buy arsenic and a men's toilet for
Homer with his initials engraved. With these items she would test Homer to see if he would be with
her forever. She thought to herself that if she ends up having to poison Homer, that he was not going
to leave her either way. Just like with her father's corpse, she would keep Homer with herself
forever. This time she wasn 't going to take the loss and be alone, ever again.
After getting the toilet and arsenic she had to go get groceries. She wanted to really surprise Homer
with a grand jester. Emily decided she would cook Homer the best meal of his life, or maybe even
the last meal of his life. So after that evening she prepared his favorite meal, Chopped Chicken
Liver Pate with his favorite wine, Chateau Margaux. His favorite cake was carrot cake and so she
decided that she would end meal with a slice of cake. The cake is what the poison would be in. If he
decided that he would reject her then she would play it off and give him the cake with the drops of
poison if he accepted he would get the safe cake. Emily wasn't much of a cook but today she will
wow Homer no matter what, after all he was going to be her husband soon. While she waited for
him to get home she put the toilet upstairs in the bedroom. She wanted to make sure everything was
perfect.

Chateau Margaux Essay
Château Margaux Case
1– Château Margaux's distribution system
Château Margaux is one of the well–known wines from the Bordeaux region in France. It is famous
by the fact that this wine has got a luxury and high quality notoriety, and also stand out from the
competitors thanks to the quality of is first growth produce with carefully selected grapes. With only
two mains wines (first wine: Chateau Margaux; Second wine: Pavillon Rouge; See in Exhibit 2)
Chateau Margaux is a famous wine all over the world.
This situation is, in a part, due to its distribution system. Indeed, Chateau Margaux has not got is
own distribution system because it entrust the distribution through specialist merchants which have
good knowledge about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, if the merchants don't inform well the consumer on that, the image of the brand can be lost. So,
this system doesn't allow Chateau Margaux to communicate on their main advantage, which is the
traditional and rigorous production.
On another hand, merchants don't give the necessaries information to Chateau Margaux to allow it
to adapt its activity to the characteristic of the market. Mentzelopoulos confirm this lack of
communication by saying, " we don't really know who our customers are. The merchants don't give
us all the details and sometimes may not have the full information themselves". That is why Chateau
Margaux should change its system of distribution because the most important thing is to keep this
final volatile consumer.
3– Propositions of changes
After analysing the drawbacks of the current distribution system, we understand that is really
important to change it. But, it is not necessary to find a completely different system but only
improve this one. Indeed, despite these drawbacks, merchants (specialists of wine selling) know the
market, know how to enter a market, know who are the specific retailors in foreign countries, on
what Chateau Margaux doesn't know because it is only a real specialist on the Bordeaux region. So
what Corinne Mentzelopoulos should do is to improve the relationship

This demographic segment was not only aging, but also increasing in spending power, and thus
willing to spend its disposable income on wine, at least up until the global financial crisis began in

Wine consumption in the United States increased every year from 2000–2008, according to the U.S.
Department of Commerce and Adams Wine Handbook, the latter an industry trade publication, as
shown in the analysis presented in Exhibit 1. Domestically produced wine, predominantly from
California, made some inroads into the
United States market. From 2000–2008, the consumption of domestically produced table wine grew
22 percent, while over the same period inroads made by wine imports led to expansion in that
category approximately 74 percent. By comparison, however, imported table wine, which accounted
for 10.3 percent of total United States wine consumption in 1991, accounted for 23.5 percent by
2008. Also, share of imports by volume, which was 14.5 percent in 1991, grew to 25.6 percent in
2008, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce and Adams Wine Handbook.

influence to the wine industry did create many benefits to the consumers but a long with it some
controversies. (Appendix 1)
3) Is Chateau Margaux a luxury brand or a connoisseur's brand? Definitely, a connoisseur's brand
because their high quality wine is treasured by those who really understand wine. These are
repeating customers with high brand loyalty. On the other hand, luxury customers are more likely to
switch from product to product. Luxury customers also buy luxury wine on only special occasion;
therefore they are not repeating customers.
4) Should Chateau Margaux extend the product line?
From our group opinion we think that Chateau Margaux should not extend its product line. Chateau
Margaux is connoisseur brand which has limited brand awareness and limited target group, which is
the strong part that keeps Chateau Margaux stands on top rank wine in consumer mind. Extend the
product line of Chateau Margaux could cause wrong perception among consumers. Moreover the
product quality control for Chateau Margaux is highly strict and limited, so to add more product line
on its regular basis production can cause the average quality of entire product drop down as well.

When and why did Ravel compose "Ma mère l'Oye" (Mother Goose Suites)? How does each
movement of the piece convey the story line of the fairytales? Compare and contrast the piano
version vs. the orchestrated version of the piece.
Ravel began writing Ma mère l'Oye between the years 1908 and 1910 as a four hand piano suite
meant for children, which later grew into a fully orchestrated 5 movement ballet with the help of
Jacques Rouché. Ravel began composing the piano suite for one of his dear friend's children. After
the piece premiered in 1910, it became very popular which then called for Jacques Rouché's
attention. He believed the piece could be reworked and orchestrated for a ballet. Ravel had to face
the challenge of turning the piano suite into a work of art set for a bigger stage. While Ravel
composed he knew he had to come up with a narrative for the ballet. He still wanted to maintain the
youthfulness, and child–like fun of the piece by creating a story based off of the story of Sleeping
Beauty. The Suite is made up of five movements which are: 1. La pavane de la Belle au bois
dormant (Pavane of the Sleeping Beauty) 2. Petit Poucet (Tom Thumb) 3. Laideronnette,
Impératrice des Pagodes ( Little Ugly One, Empress of the Pagodas) 4. Les Entretiens de la Belle et

Dear Whitney, it's me Rainsford writing to tell you about what happened to me after I went missing

blood was on the ground next to an empty 22. Shell. I found boot prints and began to follow them. I

Case Study Of Chateau Margax: Launching The Third Wine
CASE WRITE UP: "Château Margaux: Launching the third wine"
Prepared by: Emilio Ramirez Zuñiga 000126489
Date: 8 September 2015
INTRODUCTION
The Chateau Margaux estate was located on the left–bank of the Gironde estuary, in the heart of the
Medoc Region. The estate reputation for great wine was established in the 16th century by the
Lestonnac family. In 1997 Andre Mentzelopoulos, owner of a successful French supermarket chain,
purchased Chateau Margaux for about $16 million, but Andre died in 1980 and his 27–year–old
daughter, inherited the estate.
The Vineyards on the estate were divided into distinct plots and the grapes harvested from each of
them during the fall were proceed separately. The decision to be made was to make the right call on
the assemblage of the first wine and determine which of the chateaus eighty hectares would remain
for making the second red wine.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
When the 2009 third wine was tasted, it was quite obvious that it would be ready for commercial
sale. A different option for Chateau Margaux to develop a complete marketing plan for a new
offering was then attractive.

Chateau Margaux's current distribution system is completely traditional, which means that it is

Chateau Margaux is one of the five first–growth Bordeaux wine producer; it and has one of the
finest names of Bordeaux and the number of drinkers worldwide is growing through the years.
Chateau Margaux's wines are used by the connoisseurs and luxury consumers. They are facing an
uncertain future, because of losing market to New World producers (such as California, Australia,
South Africa and New Zealand) which have lower prices and more accessible flavours. Nowadays
wine drinkers are changing tastes, which could cause a big problem. 1. Explain and argue whether
current distribution system should be changed or not. If yes, how? If not, why not? Be specific as
possible and use financial data to support your argument. I am going to defend the statement that
current distribution system should not be changed. Present system has advantages as well
disadvantages, but in my opinion the benefits dominate. The main factors that prove the current
distribution model is the right one are: (1) security of high1 quality3 wine2, (2) differentiation of the
margin price between the retail price and the merchants is not high, (3) Chateau Margaux has not
got neither the skills nor education to take care of merchant's job and many others. They do not have
their own distribution system because they put the responsibility trust in specialised merchants

Frankenstein's monster begins his life full of hope, displaying care for other people and a desire for
knowledge despite the abandonment and confusion he feels. Somewhere along the road of his life,
however, the creature's pain and loneliness damage his internal being with violent results. At what

his reality and continued to live in hope of a better time? Furthermore, how can we apply the
creature's struggle to humanity?
Circumstances or events in a person's life can affect him or her in a multitude of ways and at a
multitude of times. At the beginning of the book, Frankenstein's monster is alone and confused, and
yet he feels nothing but a desire to live fully and with a good heart. The creature's explanation is
simple: "As yet I looked upon crime as a distant evil; benevolence and generosity were ever present
before me, inciting within me a desire to become an actor in the busy scene where so many
admirable qualities are called forth and displayed" (130). The creature is referring to his time

The Sun Also Rises Theme
Theme: In the 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises, author Ernest Hemingway gives us an up close look
at 'The Lost Generation' era. Hemingway demonstrates the detrimental aspects of war through the
constant conflicting subjects of love, masculinity and alcoholism. Throughout the book, love is
something that seems impossible after the traumatizing world war. Narrator and protagonist of the
novel, Jake Barnes, was injured in the war and reveals that he has suffered brain damage and can no
longer perform sexually. This struggle becomes more prominent as he and Lady Brett Ashley fall in
love. When reunited after their years of an on and off relationship, Jake and Brett confess that they

Alcohol is the secondary factor to all of the character's problems, but it also seems to bring a bit of
relief to stressful situations. Ultimately though, alcohol plays a part in the alleviation of the
miserable characters. Jake especially is manages his suffering by drinking, "Under the wine I lost
that disgusted feeling and was happy. It seemed they were all such nice people" (150). Jake uses
alcohol to disappear his problems and feelings. He explains in this scene that alcohol clouds his
mind of reality. Alcohol acts as an escapism for the characters. Hemingway's association between
war and alcoholism is crucial to the story. Alcohol can also act as a tool for destruction as presented
by Jake when Brett first comes back into his life after a long time of traveling. He admits, "I was a
little drunk. Not drunk in any positive sense but just enough to be careless" (29). Jake's description
of his own drunkard self reveals that he is aware of his alcohol fixation. He knows that it can make
him reckless and sometimes even destructive but his broken ego and low self–esteem make it easy
for him to pick up a glass. Alcohol drowns Jake's thoughts of his inability to be with his true love,
Brett. Without his friends in constant argument over Brett, Jake sits down to have a drink by
himself, "I drank a bottle of wine for company. It was Chåteau Margaux. It was pleasant to be

(terrior 2013). When talking about the Burgundy wine, we should explore the history of it. Like
Bordeaux blend wine, the history is also related to Ancient Rome. In the Ancient Rome, people from
Augustodunum travelled a very long distance to plant vine along the south slope of the Saone River
Valley. (Cogan 2012) People started to develop skills and technique in making wine and the way to
marketing it. Moreover, this continuing development has built up an international reputation in the
19th century. "A few of the most exciting wines in the world come from Burgundy. The region
produces two of the most popular wines in France: Beaujolais and Chablis." (Cogan 2012) As we
can see that the Burgundy Wine is also a very famous type of wine. The region of Burgundy cap in
both red and white wine. Burgundy wine grape is grown in a mixture of limestone and clay. There
are two major grapes that make Burgundy wine, they are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Like

wine is so much different from the Bordeaux. When tasting the Burgundy, people can feel the

To solve this problem we explain some of the background information, the current situation and
gives a future perspective for Château Margaux. We introduced a third bottle of wine, under the
brand name of Château Margaux, and this bottle will be called: Gosse du Margaux. 2. Executive
summary
Château Margaux is currently in the market of the winery. As of 2013, the global wine market was
valued at generating between $60–65 billion in annual revenues. The amount of bottles being
produced was estimated to be over 30 billion. The production of wine has seen a shift from being
produced in the ''Old world'' to an increasing production of wine in the ''New world''. This shift
created an increasingly upsweep in the global production of wine which resulted in a huge supply of
wine to the market. This development forced many wine producers to lower their prices in order to
be able to compete in the wine market.
Château Margaux will be expanding its market with a third wine titled "Gosse du Margaux".
Château Margaux offers three types of wine, the first wine being the best and the third being the
least good. The third wine is however, of such high quality that it is considered good enough to sell.

Other fact that I have learned about French culture is they almost have a similar culture with

Old World versus New World: the origins of organizational diversity in the international wine
industry, 1850–1914
James Simpson

Abstract:
Wine production in Europe today is dominated by small family vineyards and cooperative wineries,
while in the New World viticulture and viniculture is highly concentrated and vertically integrated.
This paper argues that these fundamental organizational differences appeared from the turmoil in
wine markets at the turn of the twentieth century. As technological change endangered existing
rents, growers, wine–makers, and merchants lobbied governments to introduce laws ... Show more

Section one argues that traditional grape and wine production favored small scale integrated
production. From the mid nineteenth century producers had to adapt to three major exogenous
events: the integration of national and international markets, the appearance of new vine diseases
and production shortages that these provoked, and the major advances in the knowledge of
fermentation and the development of wine making equipment that produced economies of scale and
which allowed cheap table wines to be produced in hot climates. These changes encouraged an
expansion of production in hot climates in the New World and a shift in the locus of production of
cheap table wines from Europe's centre to the periphery. Thus while the four Midi departments and
Algeria produced the equivalent of less than 15 per cent of France's domestic wine consumption in
the 1820s, this figure had reached 50 per cent by 1910. Other regions, such as La Mancha in Spain
or Puglia in Italy experienced similar changes, although at later dates. By the turn of the twentieth
century, a combination of higher yields and increase in adulteration flooded wine

Marketing Château Margaux
Were a wine to be drunk in paradise, it would be Château Margaux.
– William Styron, Sophie's Choice
Brad watched as wine poured from a precarious height into his glass, generating turbulence but no
splash. "I must try that," he thought. A young management consultant, Brad was no stranger to
expensive meals, but here he felt separated from the proceedings by more than income. He was the
junior member of a consulting team invited to join Corinne Mentzelopoulos and Paul Pontallier for
lunch at Château Margaux, in the room where such luminaries as the president of ... Show more

Château Margaux
Château Margaux was part of the French elite of wines known as first growths, five specific wines
from the Bordeaux region (see Exhibit 1 for Bordeaux wine region map). Although it was protected
in this status by a classification system that dated from 1855, its quality had fluctuated, and at the
time that the Mentzelopoulos family acquired control of the estate its fortunes were not strong.
Together with equally young general manager Pontallier, Corinne Mentzelopoulos had restored the
declining estate to a level worthy of its history and reputation. Leading wine critic Robert Parker
had recently described Château Margaux as a "brilliantly consistent wine of stunning grace, richness
and complexity."1 It was often called the most seductive and elegant of all Bordeaux wines.
In essence, wine was an agricultural product, which made land and climate fundamental to the
product. While the wine makers and their techniques could change, the land remained a constant. In
France, this was referred to as terroir. To the French, terroir stood for the idea that a plot of land,
because of its specific microclimate and soil, determined a wine's distinctive character. Terroir was
the principle that led the French to name wines after the place they came from rather than by their
grape type. Climate, however, varied from one year to another, so a wine's vintage influenced its
quality.
Further, Bordeaux wines, especially

Why Is The Chateau De Tours Essay
The Château de Tours is a famous castle in the city of Tours. One of the most natural things to do in
France is to visit the beautiful Chateaus which are spread all over the country. The Château de Tours
was built in the eleventh century. It was the residence of the Lord of France. It represents an
architectural design of the Carolingian period. There are many things to do in Château de Tours such
as visiting the many exhibitions of art that are always taking place in the many houses. There is a lot
of contemporary art present at the Chateau such as the works of Buren, Miro and Nadar. The
Château de Tours also serves as a city museum and has a collection of historical documents and
models that represent the city culture and history. The Château de ... Show more content on

Marmoutier Abbey was a monastery just outside the city of Tours which was found in around the
fourth century. It is one of the earliest places of worship in the entire region. It later became a very
important abbey and had a lot of influence on the city culture and politics. One of the best things to
do in Marmoutier Abbey is to see the old ruins of ancient buildings that once were part of the great
monastery. The only material work that was done was of transcription to better understand prayer
instructions. One of the things to do in France is to enjoy the various places that depict different
religious elements such as the Marmoutier Abbey. Marmoutier Abbey though has a bloody history. It
was ravaged by Normans in the ninth century. The monastery again received importance during the
days of the crusades but then faded away. It was officially terminated during the French Revolution
after which the condition of most buildings present at Marmoutier Abbey quickly deteriorated. The
abbey contains a private school these days but there are many ruins that remain here which can be
viewed to get an idea of the abbey in its glory

Wine And Dating Research
In the 1900's, dating was a felony. During the same time in history, BC had archaic liquor laws.
Thank–goodness to progress! The similarities between wine and dating don't end at the turn of the
century. The two articles led me to notice the similarities between the stages of dating and learning
about wine.
After all, both have the same fear of looking stupid and worrying what the other thinks of us. Since
the reward for either is so good, we go ahead anyways. All those fears fade away the more we
practice and get comfortable with it. Somehow, we forge ahead thinking about all the promise it may
bring.
Stage 1
Whether it is a new person, wine or economics, a spark of curiosity starts it all. What is it that
caught our intrigue? It's right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the work, conversations, and learning that took a commitment of both time and energy, led to a
strong grasp of what is important. You know why wine tastes the way it does in the same way this
person makes total sense in your life. Finally, either mate or grape feel like the norm. You talk about
the future with ease – will you move in together or take a trip to Burgundy next year? Despite the
comfort that comes at this level, there is always more to learn about wine or a person.
For the purpose of this article I have shown the parallels between wine and dating, but dating is
much more complicated in real life. The level of dedication to learning about wine is more flexible
and personal. In the wine world, few will ever have the resource to try a Chateau Lafite Rothschild.
It's OK to opt out of the time and practice to reach the level of Sommelier. As long as the path you
choose is fun, interesting, and conceivably inebriating.
The best time is now to delve into whatever wets–your–whistle and catches your eye. Because
whatever stage we're at, the best wine you tastes will be shared with some of the most memorable
people you

Château Margaux had entered the Mentzelopoulos family in 1977 when Andre Mentzelopoulos, the

which produces the most prestigious wine in France. The Bordeaux wine community was initially
shocked to see it "fall in the hands of a Greek." However, they gained confidence in Mentzelopoulos
as they saw the complete overhaul of the vineyards with better drainage and new plantings. Château

Problem Statement
The problem that the company must address refers to determining if it is better to develop
distribution and marketing strategies controlled by the company, or to allow the distribution of the
products to be performed by the merchants. This is a difficult decision to make because of its
implications. The fact that the company's wine products are distributed by merchants has its
advantages. These merchants know the market very well, they know buyers, and they know how to
attract them. The networking of these merchants seems to be important in efficiently distributing
wine products. But the collaboration with such distributors also leads to increased costs in the case
of Chateau Margaux. In case the company decides to control its distribution chain, the costs can be
reduced. However, this can have certain disadvantages. Therefore, the company's managers must
determine what the company should do about its distribution process and marketing strategy.
Situation Analysis
The situation of Chateau Margaux can be attributed to the fact that the company has a reduced
marketing activity. The competitive business environment in the wine industry requires important
marketing activities that are intended to help improve the brand's position on the international
market. Therefore, the problems that the company's managers must address refer to developing the
marketing strategy in accordance with the characteristics and necessities of the wine market.

A Report On Bordeaux 's Cru Classe Wines
Bordeaux's cru classe wines are sold on the Place de Bordeaux, a system of wine merchants
(negociants) and brokers (courtiers) who work with chateaux to send their wines to market. The
wines are also sold en primeur, whereby customers may purchase wines far in advance of their
bottling and public release. This trade structure is largely the result of three interrelated historical
phenomena: Bordeaux's unique relationship, and robust trade, with England; the arrival of foreign
merchants in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; and the chateaux owners' wealth and social
standing. Bordeaux's wines became destined for greatness when the French Eleanor of Aquitane
married the English Henry Plantagenet in 1152. Upon the marriage, ... Show more content on

The Dutch and English arrived in the seventeenth century. The Germans and Irish followed in the
eighteenth. These shrewd businessmen saw an opportunity in the wine industry that did not require
purchasing grand chateaux and large tracts of land. Instead, they established companies to buy and
sell wine, called "Maisons de Negoce," on the Quai des Chartrons, just outside central Bordeaux and
closer to the port itself. Although negociants had been a part of Bordeaux, in some form, since
grapes were first planted, they only now became cornerstones of the trade structure.
Unfortunately for the negociants, most chateaux owners refused to deal with them directly, on
account of their being foreign (and usually bourgeoisie). Courtiers began brokering deals between
parties, hastening communications and serving as neutral mediators. Because negociants were all
located on the Quai des Chartrons, and chateaux owners were spread out across Bordeaux, deal
making would have been interminably slow in the time before email, fax, and the telephone.
Courtiers travelled between the parties, acting as messengers.
By overseeing the entire system, courtiers gained extensive knowledge of wine prices and demand.
They were soon indispensable. Charles Sichel, of negociants Maison Sichel, claims "a good courtier
is important to the whole system because they can act as a catalyst, on behalf of a

The Oval Portrait Analysis
The narrator serves as one of the main characters in "The Oval Portrait". The story is told through
his perspective and we receive the narrative through his limited, controlled viewpoint. He is also
unnamed throughout the story. The narrator is wounded when we meet him. The start of the story
tells us, "The chateau into which my valet had ventured to make forcible entrance, rather than
permit me, in my desperately wounded condition, to pass a night in the open air–" (5). Although, the
story never gives us the details of how he received these injuries. Later on, in that same paragraph,
the narrator goes on to tell us just how much these injuries may have affected him by saying, "in
these paintings my incipient delirium, perhaps, had caused me to take deep interest" (6). Since the
narrator points out his state of "incipient delirium" it raises many questions about the reliability of
his version of events. Is the story real or is it conjured up in his mind? He is obviously enthralled by
the painting of the young woman, at one point, he even mistakes it for a living person. As a reader, I
became so intrigued by the description of this painting that I momentarily forgot about the narrator's
wounds and exactly why he was in the chateau in the first place. However, since the reader is in a
deeply wounded condition, it is possible that some of this could just be taking place in his head. Is
the painting really as special as is described or is it a result of his injuries, like blood

Leisure Commodity: Imported High-End Red Wine
Leisure Commodity: Imported High–End Red Wine
We have chosen red wine, there are some reasons that we consider it as a leisure commodity. As all
of us know, red wine is not a necessity, people can enjoy during their meals, teatime or happy hour.
For those rich people, a high–end red wine can even represent their status and they enjoy to social
with their family and friends with a bottle of red wine during free time.
Red wine is becoming more and more popular in China nowadays, no matter in leisure,
entertainment or business sectors. But the Chinese know only few well–known brands in Europe,
the market is still in a developing process, in order to have a larger market, Chinese should lead
more high–end brands into the market so that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Place Selection
Understanding the nature of the red wine is a luxury good, thus, we need to choose a place where
the GDP density is high to locate this leisure commodity. Starts the business in second line cities
(Wuhan), to sell import high–end red wine brand (Chateau Margaux, famous brand in Bordeaux) to
consumer. PLEASE TELL WHY CHOOSE WUHAN
Types of Red Wines
In China, there are both national red wines market and imported red wine market. According to the
nature of the red wines, we would suggest the firm to sell the imported red wine. Red wine is very
sensitive to the climate and soil where the foreign countries such as the red wine produced in
Bordeaux, Australia etc. These countries are specialized in making the red wines, they are
experienced and they have large area to store the wines. These countries are having absolute
advantage in making fine wines. They are able to produce the fine wines rather than the national red
wines. We are also targeting to sell the high–end red wine to the Chinese since many Chinese
billionaires are pursuing the finest wine neglecting the price of it. In China, the imported red wine is
keep increasing significantly and the mostly demanded from imported red wine is counted for 40%
of the high–end red wine.
Pricing of the Red Wines
Since the high–end red wine is rather inelastic since if lower the price, there will not be more people
demand for it. So, it is better to increase the price in order to

Emily Short Story Analysis

  • 1. Emily Short Story Analysis What really happened to Homer that night? Well, we will never know, but I believe it was Emily's doing. Emily was a very quiet and creepy middle aged woman who was overweight. Her home was very old and square, it says in the story "It was a big, squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies, set on what had once been our most select street". As you see from the evidence from the story her house was big and had cupolas. That neighborhood was empty because of the garages and cotton gins they obliterated the august names. She used to talk to the other people in town before her father passed away. But after the tragedy of her father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he said yes, she would give him the gift. If he choose not to accept her marriage proposal she would make him suffer by poisoning him. So she got an idea to buy arsenic and a men's toilet for Homer with his initials engraved. With these items she would test Homer to see if he would be with her forever. She thought to herself that if she ends up having to poison Homer, that he was not going to leave her either way. Just like with her father's corpse, she would keep Homer with herself forever. This time she wasn 't going to take the loss and be alone, ever again. After getting the toilet and arsenic she had to go get groceries. She wanted to really surprise Homer with a grand jester. Emily decided she would cook Homer the best meal of his life, or maybe even the last meal of his life. So after that evening she prepared his favorite meal, Chopped Chicken Liver Pate with his favorite wine, Chateau Margaux. His favorite cake was carrot cake and so she decided that she would end meal with a slice of cake. The cake is what the poison would be in. If he decided that he would reject her then she would play it off and give him the cake with the drops of poison if he accepted he would get the safe cake. Emily wasn't much of a cook but today she will wow Homer no matter what, after all he was going to be her husband soon. While she waited for him to get home she put the toilet upstairs in the bedroom. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Chateau Margaux Essay Château Margaux Case 1– Château Margaux's distribution system Château Margaux is one of the well–known wines from the Bordeaux region in France. It is famous by the fact that this wine has got a luxury and high quality notoriety, and also stand out from the competitors thanks to the quality of is first growth produce with carefully selected grapes. With only two mains wines (first wine: Chateau Margaux; Second wine: Pavillon Rouge; See in Exhibit 2) Chateau Margaux is a famous wine all over the world. This situation is, in a part, due to its distribution system. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, if the merchants don't inform well the consumer on that, the image of the brand can be lost. So, this system doesn't allow Chateau Margaux to communicate on their main advantage, which is the traditional and rigorous production. On another hand, merchants don't give the necessaries information to Chateau Margaux to allow it to adapt its activity to the characteristic of the market. Mentzelopoulos confirm this lack of communication by saying, " we don't really know who our customers are. The merchants don't give us all the details and sometimes may not have the full information themselves". That is why Chateau Margaux should change its system of distribution because the most important thing is to keep this final volatile consumer. 3– Propositions of changes After analysing the drawbacks of the current distribution system, we understand that is really important to change it. But, it is not necessary to find a completely different system but only improve this one. Indeed, despite these drawbacks, merchants (specialists of wine selling) know the market, know how to enter a market, know who are the specific retailors in foreign countries, on what Chateau Margaux doesn't know because it is only a real specialist on the Bordeaux region. So what Corinne Mentzelopoulos should do is to improve the relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wine consumption in the United States increased every year from 2000–2008, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce and Adams Wine Handbook, the latter an industry trade publication, as shown in the analysis presented in Exhibit 1. Domestically produced wine, predominantly from California, made some inroads into the United States market. From 2000–2008, the consumption of domestically produced table wine grew 22 percent, while over the same period inroads made by wine imports led to expansion in that category approximately 74 percent. By comparison, however, imported table wine, which accounted for 10.3 percent of total United States wine consumption in 1991, accounted for 23.5 percent by 2008. Also, share of imports by volume, which was 14.5 percent in 1991, grew to 25.6 percent in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce and Adams Wine Handbook. Definitely, a connoisseur's brand because their high quality wine is treasured by those who really understand wine. These are repeating customers with high brand loyalty. On the other hand, luxury customers are more likely to switch from product to product. Luxury customers also buy luxury wine on only special occasion; therefore they are not repeating customers. 4) Should Chateau Margaux extend the product line? From our group opinion we think that Chateau Margaux should not extend its product line. Chateau Margaux is connoisseur brand which has limited brand awareness and limited target group, which is the strong part that keeps Chateau Margaux stands on top rank wine in consumer mind. Extend the product line of Chateau Margaux could cause wrong perception among consumers. Moreover the product quality control for Chateau Margaux is highly strict and limited, so to add more product line on its regular basis production can cause the average quality of entire product drop down as well. 5) Should change its current distribution system? • 10. Ma Me LOye Analysis Starr Desmond Music History Final Paper December 13th, 2017 When and why did Ravel compose "Ma mère l'Oye" (Mother Goose Suites)? How does each movement of the piece convey the story line of the fairytales? Compare and contrast the piano version vs. the orchestrated version of the piece. Ravel began writing Ma mère l'Oye between the years 1908 and 1910 as a four hand piano suite meant for children, which later grew into a fully orchestrated 5 movement ballet with the help of Jacques Rouché. Ravel began composing the piano suite for one of his dear friend's children. After the piece premiered in 1910, it became very popular which then called for Jacques Rouché's attention. He believed the piece could be reworked and orchestrated for a ballet. Ravel had to face the challenge of turning the piano suite into a work of art set for a bigger stage. While Ravel composed he knew he had to come up with a narrative for the ballet. He still wanted to maintain the youthfulness, and child–like fun of the piece by creating a story based off of the story of Sleeping Beauty. The Suite is made up of five movements which are: 1. La pavane de la Belle au bois dormant (Pavane of the Sleeping Beauty) 2. Petit Poucet (Tom Thumb) 3. Laideronnette, Impératrice des Pagodes ( Little Ugly One, Empress of the Pagodas) 4. • 14. Case Study Of Chateau Margax: Launching The Third Wine CASE WRITE UP: "Château Margaux: Launching the third wine" Prepared by: Emilio Ramirez Zuñiga 000126489 Date: 8 September 2015 INTRODUCTION The Chateau Margaux estate was located on the left–bank of the Gironde estuary, in the heart of the Medoc Region. The estate reputation for great wine was established in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family. In 1997 Andre Mentzelopoulos, owner of a successful French supermarket chain, purchased Chateau Margaux for about $16 million, but Andre died in 1980 and his 27–year–old daughter, inherited the estate. The Vineyards on the estate were divided into distinct plots and the grapes harvested from each of them during the fall were proceed separately. The decision to be made was to make the right call on the assemblage of the first wine and determine which of the chateaus eighty hectares would remain for making the second red wine. PROBLEM STATEMENT When the 2009 third wine was tasted, it was quite obvious that it would be ready for commercial sale. A different option for Chateau Margaux to develop a complete marketing plan for a new offering was then attractive. ANALYSIS 1. How does the Bordeaux wine distribution system work? They are facing an uncertain future, because of losing market to New World producers (such as California, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand) which have lower prices and more accessible flavours. Nowadays wine drinkers are changing tastes, which could cause a big problem. 1. Explain and argue whether current distribution system should be changed or not. If yes, how? If not, why not? Be specific as possible and use financial data to support your argument. I am going to defend the statement that current distribution system should not be changed. Jake uses alcohol to disappear his problems and feelings. He explains in this scene that alcohol clouds his mind of reality. Alcohol acts as an escapism for the characters. Hemingway's association between war and alcoholism is crucial to the story. Alcohol can also act as a tool for destruction as presented by Jake when Brett first comes back into his life after a long time of traveling. He admits, "I was a little drunk. We introduced a third bottle of wine, under the brand name of Château Margaux, and this bottle will be called: Gosse du Margaux. 2. Executive summary Château Margaux is currently in the market of the winery. As of 2013, the global wine market was valued at generating between $60–65 billion in annual revenues. The amount of bottles being produced was estimated to be over 30 billion. The production of wine has seen a shift from being produced in the ''Old world'' to an increasing production of wine in the ''New world''. This shift created an increasingly upsweep in the global production of wine which resulted in a huge supply of wine to the market. This development forced many wine producers to lower their prices in order to be able to compete in the wine market. Château Margaux will be expanding its market with a third wine titled "Gosse du Margaux".

Old World versus New World: the origins of organizational diversity in the international wine industry, 1850–1914 James Simpson Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Departamento de Historia Económica e Instituciones Instituto Figuerola de Historia Económica Abstract: Wine production in Europe today is dominated by small family vineyards and cooperative wineries, while in the New World viticulture and viniculture is highly concentrated and vertically integrated. This paper argues that these fundamental organizational differences appeared from the turmoil in wine markets at the turn of the twentieth century. As technological change endangered existing rents, growers, wine–makers, and merchants lobbied governments to introduce laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section one argues that traditional grape and wine production favored small scale integrated production. From the mid nineteenth century producers had to adapt to three major exogenous events: the integration of national and international markets, the appearance of new vine diseases and production shortages that these provoked, and the major advances in the knowledge of fermentation and the development of wine making equipment that produced economies of scale and which allowed cheap table wines to be produced in hot climates. These changes encouraged an expansion of production in hot climates in the New World and a shift in the locus of production of cheap table wines from Europe's centre to the periphery. Thus while the four Midi departments and Algeria produced the equivalent of less than 15 per cent of France's domestic wine consumption in the 1820s, this figure had reached 50 per cent by 1910. Other regions, such as La Mancha in Spain or Puglia in Italy experienced similar changes, although at later dates. Château Margaux Château Margaux was part of the French elite of wines known as first growths, five specific wines from the Bordeaux region (see Exhibit 1 for Bordeaux wine region map). Although it was protected in this status by a classification system that dated from 1855, its quality had fluctuated, and at the time that the Mentzelopoulos family acquired control of the estate its fortunes were not strong. Together with equally young general manager Pontallier, Corinne Mentzelopoulos had restored the declining estate to a level worthy of its history and reputation. Leading wine critic Robert Parker had recently described Château Margaux as a "brilliantly consistent wine of stunning grace, richness and complexity."1 It was often called the most seductive and elegant of all Bordeaux wines. In essence, wine was an agricultural product, which made land and climate fundamental to the product. While the wine makers and their techniques could change, the land remained a constant. In France, this was referred to as terroir. To the French, terroir stood for the idea that a plot of land, because of its specific microclimate and soil, determined a wine's distinctive character. Terroir was the principle that led the French to name wines after the place they came from rather than by their grape type. The similarities between wine and dating don't end at the turn of the century. The two articles led me to notice the similarities between the stages of dating and learning about wine. After all, both have the same fear of looking stupid and worrying what the other thinks of us. Since the reward for either is so good, we go ahead anyways. All those fears fade away the more we practice and get comfortable with it. Somehow, we forge ahead thinking about all the promise it may bring. Wine Industry Case Study Wine Case Study Problem Statement The problem that the company must address refers to determining if it is better to develop distribution and marketing strategies controlled by the company, or to allow the distribution of the products to be performed by the merchants. This is a difficult decision to make because of its implications. The fact that the company's wine products are distributed by merchants has its advantages. These merchants know the market very well, they know buyers, and they know how to attract them. The networking of these merchants seems to be important in efficiently distributing wine products. But the collaboration with such distributors also leads to increased costs in the case of Chateau Margaux. In case the company decides to control its distribution chain, the costs can be reduced. However, this can have certain disadvantages. Therefore, the company's managers must determine what the company should do about its distribution process and marketing strategy. Situation Analysis The situation of Chateau Margaux can be attributed to the fact that the company has a reduced marketing activity. The competitive business environment in the wine industry requires important marketing activities that are intended to help improve the brand's position on the international market. Therefore, the problems that the company's managers must address refer to developing the marketing strategy in accordance with the characteristics and necessities of the wine market. ... A Report On Bordeaux 's Cru Classe Wines Bordeaux's cru classe wines are sold on the Place de Bordeaux, a system of wine merchants (negociants) and brokers (courtiers) who work with chateaux to send their wines to market. The wines are also sold en primeur, whereby customers may purchase wines far in advance of their bottling and public release. This trade structure is largely the result of three interrelated historical phenomena: Bordeaux's unique relationship, and robust trade, with England; the arrival of foreign merchants in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; and the chateaux owners' wealth and social standing. Bordeaux's wines became destined for greatness when the French Eleanor of Aquitane married the English Henry Plantagenet in 1152. Upon the marriage, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dutch and English arrived in the seventeenth century. The Germans and Irish followed in the eighteenth. These shrewd businessmen saw an opportunity in the wine industry that did not require purchasing grand chateaux and large tracts of land. Instead, they established companies to buy and sell wine, called "Maisons de Negoce," on the Quai des Chartrons, just outside central Bordeaux and closer to the port itself. Although negociants had been a part of Bordeaux, in some form, since grapes were first planted, they only now became cornerstones of the trade structure. Unfortunately for the negociants, most chateaux owners refused to deal with them directly, on account of their being foreign (and usually bourgeoisie). Courtiers began brokering deals between parties, hastening communications and serving as neutral mediators. Because negociants were all located on the Quai des Chartrons, and chateaux owners were spread out across Bordeaux, deal making would have been interminably slow in the time before email, fax, and the telephone. Courtiers travelled between the parties, acting as messengers. By overseeing the entire system, courtiers gained extensive knowledge of wine prices and demand. They were soon indispensable. Charles Sichel, of negociants Maison Sichel, claims "a good courtier is important to the whole system because they can act as a catalyst, on behalf of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Oval Portrait Analysis The narrator serves as one of the main characters in "The Oval Portrait". The story is told through his perspective and we receive the narrative through his limited, controlled viewpoint. He is also unnamed throughout the story. The narrator is wounded when we meet him. The start of the story tells us, "The chateau into which my valet had ventured to make forcible entrance, rather than permit me, in my desperately wounded condition, to pass a night in the open air–" (5). Although, the story never gives us the details of how he received these injuries. Later on, in that same paragraph, the narrator goes on to tell us just how much these injuries may have affected him by saying, "in these paintings my incipient delirium, perhaps, had caused me to take deep interest" (6). Since the narrator points out his state of "incipient delirium" it raises many questions about the reliability of his version of events. Is the story real or is it conjured up in his mind? He is obviously enthralled by the painting of the young woman, at one point, he even mistakes it for a living person. As a reader, I became so intrigued by the description of this painting that I momentarily forgot about the narrator's wounds and exactly why he was in the chateau in the first place. However, since the reader is in a deeply wounded condition, it is possible that some of this could just be taking place in his head. Is the painting really as special as is described or is it a result of his injuries, like blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
