Cafe Society
CAFÉ SOCIETY, A TIMELESS ALLURE
LINGERING OVER COFFEE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS IS A RITUAL THAT NEVER
LOSES ITS APPEAL: MUCH HAS CHANGED OVER THE GENERATIONS, BUT THE
GLOBAL CAFÉ SOCIETY KEEPS IT TIMELESS GLAMOUR
In 1971, Starbucks was just a single bar in Seattle s market plaza. Ten years later, the one location
had become five, and the company began importing their own blends of coffee. The legend
surrounding the birth of Starbucks tells of Howard Schulz, one of the company s buyers, making a
trip to Italy in 1983, and being astounded to learn that the Country had more than 200,000 cafГ©s
selling espresso coffee and that Milan, a city the size of Philadelphia, had more than 1,500. Why

And who could ignore Paris s oldest literary cafГ© Procope, or the city s iconic CafГЁ Flore or the
legendary Les Deux Magots, on the corner of Place Saint Germain des PrГ©s: all beloved places
for 20th Century artists and intellectuals like Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Albert Camus,
Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.
But in the first half of the 20th Century, it wasn t just highbrow culture that was discussed in
New York or European capital cities. CafГ©s were a magnet for bohemians with their disorderly
lives, bourgeois women who were in search of adventure and models who d appear in
sophisticated clothes and jewels, like those featured in the photos by Cecil Beaton for Vogue.
These were the cafГ©s for the sophisticated avant garde culture made up of beautiful people and
bright young things , a generation that would become immortalized with the name CafГ© Society ,
which was a term coined by the columnist for the New York American, Maury Paul, whose writings
inspired the 1938 film by Paramount Pictures, Cafe Society.
In the U.S, the rise of Cafe Society coincided with the end of Prohibition (December, 1933) and the
growing popularity of photojournalism. All of a sudden, photographers were taking pictures of
everything, everywhere as long as there was someone famous in the shot. Millionaires, starlets,
sports stars, and of course, the luminaries of CafГ© Society .

Jameson Whiskey Agency Brief Essay
TBWA Chiat Day Agency Briefing on Jameson Advertising Campaign
Table of Contents
Overview Jameson is currently the world s favorite Irish whiskey. It is the world s most
recognizable Irish whiskey and is also the best selling by a long shot. Over 30 million bottles of
Jameson s whiskey is sold every year. There are seven main whiskies within the Jameson brand
(Straightwhisky, 2013).

Jameson whiskey is the main whiskey within the Jameson brand. It is a blend that incorporates the
whiskey from malted barley and unmalted barley. There is pot still whiskey and grain whiskey in

The dedication to heavy advertising is targeting Jameson s sales to nearly doubling to 3.5m cases
by 2OO9 (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). This is no new concept with the brand: in the mid
199Os the hoary Spirit of Ireland campaign helped Jameson become the world s fastest growing
international spirit and fastest growing whiskey. Then the What s The Rush? campaign stressed
the importance of people stretching out to enjoy themselves with friends in the face of
increasingly frenetic lifestyles (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). Jameson grew more than 2O% in
the US in 2OO5, with sales in travel retail up 16%. South Africa grew by 4O%; Russia s sales
doubled, as it did in 2O+ principal markets worldwide (led by Ireland, USA, UK, France, and
Spain). Last year, the company put 4O million euro (US $5O.8 million) behind Jameson, launching
the ongoing Beyond the Obvious campaign (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). The positioning
statement I think would be For young hard working real men who enjoy a fine whiskey Jameson
Irish Whiskey is the beverage of choice. Advertising objective is to build the brand year around,
and not just on St. Patrick s Day (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006.) The three main objectives are to
build brand awareness, at 3O% awareness it s still a discovery brand; strengthen brand positioning;
and create consumer brand relationship (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006).

Magna Carta Sealing
C.Sealing of the Magna Carta
In May 1215, a group of leading nobles renounced their homage to King John, and this large scale
defection to the rebel cause following the capitulation of London aroused a sentiment of negotiation
in the king, who agreed to meet the rebels at Runnymede to negotiate peace. Until this point, many
of the rebels just wanted John I to be dethroned outright, but King John handing out the
metaphorical olive branch allowed more moderate thought to gain momentum. Some began to hope
that the king was being genuine in his repentance and thusly, a group of moderates anxious to end
the rebellion, argued for compromise and their terms of settlements were the Magna Carta. It is
likely that the terms were hurriedly assembled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On August 24th, Pope Innocent III declared the charter a shameful and demeaning agreement
forced upon a king by violence and fear and under the threat of excommunication that the king
not dare to observe it nor the barons required it to be observed. The charter, we hereby declare to
be a nullity, void of all validity forever . After this, the Magna Carta lost the support of the
English clergymen, who had originally been on the side of the rebels. In late 1215, the charter
disappeared, and civil war broke out. Louis of France was proclaimed king by the barons and they
aided him in his invasion of England. John I died on the 12th of November ending the ongoing
civil war, and his nine year old King Henry III (1207 1272) son was proclaimed

Deterioration of the Nuclear Family
Deterioration of the Nuclear Family
What is a family? The meaning of family has changed throughout history. It means something
different to many people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau: A family includes a householder
and one or more people living in the same household who are related to the householder by birth,
marriage, or adoption. All people in a household who are related to the householder are regarded as
members of his or her family. A family household may contain people not related to the
householder, but those people are not included as part of the householder s family. Thus, the
number of family households is equal to the number of families, but family households may include
more members than do families. Not all households ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teen Health and Wellness expresses that the result on children ages six to eight is most profound.
It says they are old enough to realize what is happening but do not have adequate skills to deal
with the disruption. It asserts that they often feel a sense of responsibility, experience tremendous
grief, and have a pervasive sadness and yearning for the departed parent. According to this article,
adolescents reactions to divorce include anger, a desire for a stable home, and a need for clear
boundaries between them and their parents, especially around such issues as sexuality, dating, and
household responsibilities. Dysfunctional Family testifies that teens that already have to deal with
their maturing bodies and minds, divorce is just an added burden (Dysfunctional Family).
There are instances where divorce is essential. In cases such as verbal or physical abuse of a
spouse or child, divorce may be the only solution. However, the negative effects of divorce have a
large impact on family structure. Divorce can be very stressful for young adult children, with a
sense of increased responsibility to their parents and a vulnerability to loyalty conflicts with both
parents. In addition, this article proclaims that young adults may experience a sense of loss of their
family home, abandonment by their parents, and a concern

No Bruce Springsteen Or Billy Joel Concert
The moment I stepped foot into the doorway, I knew that the night would not turn out the way I
had expected. I was stunned in fear by the way people looked: tattoos, piercings, and hoodies was
clearly the norm at the scene. The room was dark, and I felt the stuffy air choke me up. First
impressions are everything, and this one was unlike any other; I was somewhat scared and uneasy.
This is how I felt the night my friends introduced a new idea to go to a metal concertfor the first
time. This was no Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel concert; it was a new entity that was explicitly
more fierce and threatening that I have ever imagined. Metal concerts are dangerous and
unappealing places where people fight, get hurt, and are reckless with their behavior; attending
these concerts have demonstrated how revoking the people and venue can be, and have changed
my views on them and musicforever.
I heard a tap on the microphone, a loud squeal, and there I realized that this music was not meant
for me. I am used to a nice soothing type of music: a good rhythm, with calming lyrics. This was
the complete opposite. The lead singer was screaming these inaudible words into the microphone
as he banged his head in a way that almost looked painful. The instruments were played recklessly
with a force that was incredible: the drummer slammed the bass, guitarists shredded the chords, and
everyone else yelled the lyrics. For a moment I was just still, confused, and stunned by what I was

Skyyb Urban Legends
In 1979 we didn t have the internet, but we had gossip and urban legends. Similarly to an
internet post, gossip , and urban legends could go viral. In the garden street projects, we thought
that Skylab was going to fall and destroy the world, and the kids spread the word throughout the
neighborhood, everyone was saying it, so it was true. While the urban legend swirled
embarrassingly, I exhibited immense fear, I skipped summer school and hid in our fort.
Subsequently, Skylab landed in Canada, the world wasn t obliterated, and we didn t die, and as far
as we knew, no cloaked, unilateral, world scientific, government organization built a rocket ship for

An Article On Food Assistance Programs
Before We SNAP Food assistance programs in the United States have always generated a lot of
debate among citizens, congress, and the media. No matter which side of the fence you sit on,
the truth is that this program is designed to help those in need. According to an article in the
Washington Post, Brad Plumer states that there are at least 47 million people who collect
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aide (Plumer), otherwise known as SNAP, from
the government. These people are collecting this in order to survive; however the United States
government has targeted SNAP in order to cut down on the national debt. Robert Rector
believes that this reform is much needed and should have been done sooner, but Dottie
Rosenbaum argues that this benefit is a necessity in the United States. Many people often think
of the negative side effects of collecting this aid, and how the bad outweighs the good. Robert
Rector is a senior researcher for Heritage.org, and believes that SNAP needs to be reformed for
the good of the nation. Robert Rector also played a vital role in the 1996 welfare reformation
legislation. Throughout his service to his country he has earned the nickname as an intellectual
godfather when it comes to welfare reform. In his article he covers the negative side effects of
being on SNAP, discusses the benefits of reforming the program, and covers the possible outcomes
if it is reformed. He argues that if it is reformed it will adversely affect the dependency

A Dream Without My Dream
Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain
Martin Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the world. Imagine what the world would be like
if no one had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn t have any of the great inventions that are
present today. There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole
of the United States probably wouldn t have been discovered if it wasn t Christopher Columbus

shown in the Flintstones!
That is, if the human race didn t end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had
dreams , and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up at 4 o clock in the morning staring out my
window daydreaming. Although chances are that I m not really day dreaming if it s 4 in the

Equality Exposed In Ayn Rand s Anthem
In the book Anthem written by Ayn Rand we are introduced to a man named Equality 7 2521
who lives in a dystopian city. He faces many difficulties within the course of the story and finds
out that thinking for what s best for yourself is better than the community. Equality catches
interest in a woman in his city named Liberty 5 3000 but sadly cannot associate with her because
men are not allowed to even notice women. Equality becomes very critical and rebellious
throughout the course of the story just by disobeying the laws of his city. Based on the number
of times Liberty was actually mentioned in the story she was loving and loyal towards Equality.
Equality is a considerably critical man in the story, here are some examples. Equality states I
owe nothing to my brothers nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I
live for any others. I covet no man s soul, nor is my soul theirs to covet (Rand 97). Throughout
the story Equality sees many problems he faces with much thought, he finds the problem and
attempts to make it better. Later in the story Equality runs off to the Uncharted forest and has to
find ways to survive and says why the best in me had been my sins and transgressions and why I
had never felt any guilt in my sins (Rand 98). As this quote was one of the first things in the last

The Iran Contra Affair Involving Ronald Reagan
In class, we discussed the Iran Contra Affair involving Ronald Reagan. However, we did not go in
depth about public opinion, George H.W. Bush s involvement, or how people feel about it today.
This paper will seek to continue this topic. For example, the Iran Contra polls showed that most
Americans did not believe Regan s cover stories, yet there was never a push for him to pay the
political price, which would ultimately have been impeachment. Thus this paper will further
attempt to understand the mindset of people that allowed these events to occur with little penalty.
The Public Opinion
To begin, Congress, by fair vote, decided in the 1980s that the United States should not assist the
contras fighting the socialist Sandinista government of Nicaragua (Corn 2006). Yet, the Reagan
White House concocted several imaginative ways to pull an end run around democracy (Corn
2006). Reagan s decisions such as selling weapons to Iran were made with the knowledge that he
would not suffer a decline in presidential approval. Thus, Reagan took various steps that were
violations of law that not only involved himself, but members of the CIA. By 1986, two big
revelations happened that caused this scandal to abrupt publically. The first was the shoot down of
a cargo plane over Nicaragua and the admission by the sole survivor that the plane had been
delivering arms to the Contras against congressional restrictions (Kornbluh 2011). The second,
revelation was the news story of Lebanon that stated

The Iowa model was specifically indented to be used by nurses and other healthcare professionals
because it assisted them during various intervention stages, such as development and

correlated with the HBM, since church attending men would be more morally obligated to take

church setting was an appropriate venue, and it was relevant to the Community Empowerment
Model because it allowed for direct interaction with community leaders, such as pastors, to build
strong lasting relationships with them. The combination of the three above mentioned models has
led to the development of this successful method that have encouraged men to execute easily

Sol And Aquara Short Story
Sol and Luna lived high in the heavens in their shimmering thrones above Terro, the earth. One
day Luna had a baby. That baby s name was Aquara. She grew up in the heavens and slowly
developed an aching love for Terro. She watched and watched, then as she grew older she

Aquara surrounding Terro with her devoted emotion.. As time went on Sol realized a problem.
He knew that he needed to have a place for beings to live. He couldn t put beings on Terro, for he

them apart. One day Sol reached down to Terro and Aquara, and split them apart and placed them
side by side. Terro understood and thanked Sol for letting them still be close. Aquara on the other
hand, was agonized. Sol placed all the animals down to Terro. He nurtured and nourished them as
Aquara sat in silence. Finally she broke down.
Anger and outrage struck her. Who is he to tell me what I can do?
Her body started shaking, her legs trembling, her eyes changed from a royal blue to a smoldering

How The Invention Of The Diesel Engine Changed In The...
The invention of the Diesel engine changed the way people lived in the industrial revolution. It
had countless long term consequences both positive and negative. Firstly, the Diesel engine
helped businesses, and people selling goods flourish in their businesses. The engine not only
helped the selling and accessibility of goods in the short term, it also aided the economy in the
long term. The invention of the Diesel engine meant that goods were more accessible and money
could be gained quicker. The Diesel engine has some very terrible long term effects. Still today the
diesel engine is one of the biggest producers of pollution. Studies have shown that a Diesel engine
emits four times more toxic pollution than a bus. (Carrington, D. (2015).

The Epistle To The Philippian
Paul is attributed with writing the Epistle to the Philippians, and no serious doubt is raised
against the claim otherwise. It was during Paul s second missionary journey, he and his
companions set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to
Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a
Roman colony (Acts 12:11 12). They remained in the city, where they met a small group of Jews
attending a prayer meeting by the river. Paul was able to preach to them, and Lydia and her

encourage the church, but he rebuked them for their disunity and contentiousness. His letter
provided a sharp disagreement against the possibility of the Gospel being hindered because of the

Arrow Of God District 9 Comparison
Arrow of God written by Chinua Achebe is set in the 1920 s located in Nigeria. The book focuses
on the main character Ezeulu, the Igbo people s chief priest. Throughout the text we see Ezeulu
have conflicts with other tribes and with Christian missionaries, get sent to prison for denying a
position from the British, and Ezeulu having difficulties within his own tribe and their yam harvest

look at a look at the very complex film District 9produced by Peter Jackson, we see a very
different but similar story. This is a mockumentary type film that explores the life of a MNU
executive, an alien and his son, the Nigerian gang, and a mercenary soldier employed by MNU
(IMDb). In both stories, Arrow of God and District 9, there are very blunt patterns of fiction,
distinct archetypes, and prominent philosophies used. The stories above are two different types of
media, with similar content. Both book and movie shows a tribe being pushed out of their home,
in almost the same way. In both stories we see patterns of fiction, which is when a reader is
introduced to a characterand some event or a challenge occurs. In Arrow of God, Ezeulu is faced
with a difficult decision towards the end of the story. We call this The Choice. Ezeulu is faced with

My Reflection Of Friendship
I guess I d just like to take a moment to reflect on our friendship. Actually, before I start, what
does a typical friendship look like? Is there such a thing, or are all of them unique and different?
What even is a friendship ? How does it work? Are we friends ? Since I can t get an answer for
now, I ll just be calling it that from here on in...
It used to be that the topics were lighter, and even though they were somewhat more distant and
irrelevant to daily life, we were in a way closer: We would chat much more often and consistently,
you would walk me home, there were plans to hang out, and overall I was more certain of where
we stood. But now I m less so, the topics are heavier, and you might have noticed that our friendship
itself is more stressful to me, a fact which builds recursively into more anxiety.
Previously, it seemed like a two way and balanced interaction. Now we can easily go for more
than a week without speaking, and unlike in the past, I find myself initiating all of the
conversations. Sure, one could argue that there s a reason for this (which is that our interaction

Have you ever thought what would happen if the people who receive government assistance had
to be drug tested prior to receiving help, like many who must be tested to keep their job? Many
people must go through drug testing to get a job, then after they have it, they may be selected to
be randomly tested again to keep their job. There are people down on their luck or going through a
rough patch where they need to receive government assistance, nothing but an application needs to
be filled out prior to receiving payment from the government. Drug testing for government

[Washington, D.C]25 Jan 1999: A04. The reason for this drop in numbers was due to the work
first approach that helps recipients look for work and then pushes them to take any job they can
find. As the nation focuses on individual drug testing laws by state federally there are two
provisions related to TANF and substance abuse, there has been since the 1996 welfare reform law.
First, there is a provision that says States may require drug tests for welfare recipients and may
penalize those who fail such tests (21 U.S.C. 862b). In addition, the law includes a lifetime ban on
TANF and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps) benefits
for persons convicted of a drug related felony, though States have the option of modifying or opting
out of the ban (21 U.S.C. 862a), and many have done so. Drug Testing Welfare Recipients: Recent

Fool Proof Cookies Research Paper
Nearly everyone loves a sweet treat once in a while, and many claim that the chocolate chip
cookie is one of the best. In fact, nearly seven billion chocolate chip cookies are consumed in
America each year. With that many cookies being made, numerous ways of creating this baked
good have arose. The most common form of bakingcookies is from scratch, but a simpler and more
prompt way is by utilizing a box of cakemix in place of the dry ingredients. With a small amount of
time and a few basic baking components, anyone can throw together these remarkable cake box
cookies.
In regard to baking this special cookie, the baker must first start with the correct elements. The
cook must have the best ingredients to begin, and all of the baking items can be found in most
grocery stores. A box of Betty Crocker s yellow cake mix, a twelve ounce bag of semi sweet
Hershey s chocolate chips, one large egg, and a stick of salted butter, are all the chef will need
before the actual baking can get underway. With these components, the baker is guaranteed a

Characteristics Of Identical Twins
In our opinion, twins reared in different conditions will display some of the same traits. However, it
depends on certain aspects as well. To start off, Twin studies are a significant tool to investigate the
nature versus nurture argument. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, are siblings that have the
exact same genotypes whereas fraternal twins are dizygotic twins that only share half of their genes
together. Fraternal twins are similar to siblings, except they have of the exact age. As Plomin,
DeFries, McClearn, and Rutter (1997) stated that if one twinhas dark hair, then the other twin has
dark hair as well; where the concept of identical genes would ideally distribute itself towards the
phenotypes of behavior and personality of identical twins .
Twins reared in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents who dress their twins up in the same outfits or get them the same set of toys does not
contribute to twins who have the same traits. It shows that a common environment does not give
much impact in developing personalities. Mischel (1981) has also attested to this issue saying that
genes and glands are different, but social learning plays a dramatic role. People develop vast
differences through the stimuli they face in their daily life. Despite being reared in the same
environment (their home), both twins could have had different sets of friends. Thus, going through
their school years having different experiences and facing different challenges. As a whole they will
have completely different hobbies and interests.
Hence, we think that twins will display the same trait even though they were brought up in different
environments because traits have more to do with genetics rather than environment. Which is why
identical twins are more similar when compared to fraternal twins despite both being reared apart.
This is due to the higher similarity in genetic makeup for identical twins when compared to fraternal

Speech On Perseverance
There I was, dead tired on the final play of my football game. As they snapped the ball from the
two yard line, they ran it to the left. Now, I could have let the situation take over and not make
my tired body make the tackle and let them score the winning touchdown, but instead I persevered
in the face of a tired and stiff body and made the game saving touchdown. If one always keeps on
keeping on, no matter the situation, is perseverance. A person needs to be motivated, have
optimism, and realizing and using the advantages of perseverance to one s advantage if they wantto
have grit and perseverance, which is to never quit even with difficulties.
To begin with, to have perseverance, one must always keep going forward, regardless of the
situation. There are many factors in keeping this grit, one of them being to always be motivated. A
quote that explains this is ... we conquer by continuing. (Smith 2017.) This quote helps prove the
idea of motivation by basically saying one cannot fail if they don t stop trying, which is
motivation. If one always keeps trying, they can never fail. More evidence to support this comes
from The Iceberg Illusion, where it says that you need failure, sacrifice, and disappointment in
order to reach the level of success they want. It takes much motivation to overcome failure,
sacrifice, and disappointment in one s life. This idea of motivation can be related back to me,
because I have needed to stay motivated to keep in shape the

Sources of Business Finance
Q 1. Discuss about different Sources of Business Finance.
Different Sources of Business Finance
Business is concerned with the production and distribution of goods and services for the
satisfaction of needs of society. For carrying out various activities, business requires money. Finance
, therefore, is called the life blood of any business. A business cannot function unless adequate
funds are made available to it. The initial capital contributed by the entrepreneur is not always
sufficient to take care of all financial requirements of the business. A business person, therefore,
has to look for different other sources from where the need for funds can be met. A business can

Further, through their right to vote, these shareholders have a right to participate in the
management. However, equity shares also carry more risk.
2. Preference Shares
The capital raised by issue of preference shares is called preference share capital. The preference
shareholders enjoy a preferential position over equity shareholders in two ways: (i) receiving a
fixed rate of dividend, out of the net profits of the company, before any dividend is declared for
equity shareholders; and (ii) receiving their capital after the claims of the company s creditors
have been settled, at the time of liquidation. In other words, as compared to the equity
shareholders, the preference shareholders have a preferential claim over dividend and repayment of
capital. Preference shares have some characteristics of both equity shares and debentures.
Preference shareholders generally do not enjoy any voting rights. Investments in these shares are
safe, and a preference shareholder also gets dividend regularly.
3. Debentures
Debentures are an important instrument for raising long term debt capital. Whenever a company
wants to borrow a large amount of fund for a long but fixed period, it can borrow from the general
public by issuing loan certificates called Debentures.
A company can raise funds through issue of debentures, which bear a fixed rate of interest. A
debenture is issued under the common

Language
Assignment 2: Figurative Language versus Literal Language
The lack of exposure to non literal forms of language makes it difficult to engage in productive
thinking. Having the capacity to understand figurative language increases our ability to
communicate with each other. By increasing our word bank we expand our knowledge base and
increase our thinking capacity. Below are a list of ten words with their meaning, definitions,
examples and appropriate circumstances in which to use them.
1. Describe the meaning and function of each term.
1. Idiom is a language, dialect or speaking style peculiar to a people.

A good example is from Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud :
A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
He doesn t say many or a lot of daffodils, he uses the word host. That means a huge number of
daffodils. Later, he personifies the daffodils, and personification will be covered later on.
Another example is from The Eagle by Tennyson,
He clasps the crag with crooked hands.
The hard consonant sounds add even more to the imagery here.
Simile
A simile compares two things using the words like and as. Examples include: * busy as a bee *
clean as a whistle * brave as a lion * stand out like a sore thumb * as easy as shooting fish in a
barrel * as dry as a bone * as funny as a barrel of monkeys * they fought like cats and dogs * like
watching grass grow
Metaphor
When you use a metaphor, you make a statement that doesn t make sense literally, like time is a
thief. It only makes sense when the similarities between the two things become apparent or
someone understands the connection.
Examples include: * the world is my oyster * you are a couch potato * time is money * he has a
heart of stone * America is a melting pot * you are my sunshine
Alliteration
Alliteration is the easiest of the examples of figurative language to spot. It is a repetition of the
first consonant sounds in several words. Some good examples

The Benefits Of Air Pollution
To survive, the human body is constantly taking in oxygen. But the oxygen inhaled today is
some of the filthiest, most polluted air ever, and it is only getting worse with society s
negligence. What is the price of clean, unpolluted fresh air? The average cost of an air purifier
ranges from $80 for the cheaper, albeit less effective, models to $400 for higher quality air
purification. Not to mention the added repair and maintenance costs of anywhere between $20 to
$200 for cleaning, replacement filters, et cetera. To clarify, the cost of breathing easy can add up
very quickly, but the cost is not just financially it is physically too. Air pollutiondoes not come in
the form of a giant, flying two headed dragon and does not typically manifest on the body like a
ghastly goiter. Air pollutionis invisible to the human eye. To see it, special equipment from
NASA or other research facilities would be required. But just because it is not visible, does not
mean it is not present, air pollution is everywhere and sometimes more dense and deadly in some
places than others. This poisonous air is caused by motor vehicles, planes, ships, energy plants, and
much more, things quite necessary for society to function. The solution to dirty air cannot be so
drastic as to ban automobiles or energy plants, and it would not happen overnight. However, society
can take several meaningful, if small, steps to reduce air pollution to the point where it can decrease
the number of stroke, asthma, and

He saw the Holocaust and Holodomor as a product of the modernity s faith in progress embodied in

Strategic Alliance Vs. Acquisition M A And Organic Growth
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE: A strategic alliance is an agreement between two or more parties to
pursue a set of agreed upon objectives needed while remaining independent organizations. This form
of cooperation lies between Mergers Acquisition M A and organic growth. Partners may provide the
strategic alliance with resources such as products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability,
project funding, capital equipment, knowledge, expertise, or intellectual property. The alliance is
cooperation or collaboration which aims for a synergy where each partner hopes that the benefits
from the alliance will be greater than those from individual efforts. The alliance often involves
technology transfer (access to knowledge and expertise), economic specialization, shared expenses
and shared risk. INtRODUCTION: Nowadays, the commercial competition has surpassed the limits
of the previous era in which dominant markets are protecting their set market shares. Mega
commercial activity back then was completely regulated by the government. The United States has
privatized a lot of sectors related to energy, telecommunication, and transportation sectors. In
response, the USA introduced the deregulations in the aviation industry to increase the competition
in the aviation market. In the past few years, the commercial air carriers have formed strategic
alliances with each other which were not possible before this due to the previous regulations. The

High School Football Injuries Analysis
When an individual signs up to join the high school football team, he or she should be very
aware of the physical toll it can have on your body. Injuries occur in very many circumstances.
Though very common, nobody expects to get injured, including myself. I figured I was immune to
a major injury, however that all changed very quickly one friday night. I was all smiles heading
into week four of the 2016 high schoolfootballseason. After being told I broke the starting lineup,
offensively and defensively, I was more than prepared for the game. After working my tail off
sophomore year, I felt this opportunity was well deserved. After the conclusion of the Thursday
morning practice, my friends and I jokingly said how bad it would be to have

Dr. Lamp s Case For Tenure And Promotion
On September 21, 2015 the Budget and Personnel Committee for the Department of English met to
review Assistant Professor Kathleen Lamp s case for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure.
The Committee voted 6 to 0 in favor of recommending Professor Lamp for tenure and promotion.
Dr. Lamp is a scholar of rhetorical theory, practice, and education and joined the English
department in fall semester 2010. Her published scholarship since arriving at ASU includes one
book, The Rhetoric of Augustan Rome (2013, University of South Carolina Press), two refereed
articles in major peer reviewed journals, and two book reviews. She also has one 3,000 word
contribution in a refereed conference proceeding, which has been submitted for publication ... Show

Lamp characterizes her scholarship as challenging the narrow definitions of rhetoric in the early
Roman Empire as well as narratives of its retreat from political life after the Roman republic.
She describes her book as transdisciplinary in nature, combining research from rhetorical theory,
visual studies, art history, archaeology, and classics to explore the impact of non traditional
rhetorical media on practices of citizenship during the reign of Augustus. Lamp s other
publications are closely aligned with the book s theme and serve to reach scholars of history, the
classics and art history. She presents evidence of a clear plan moving forward as well as ongoing
progress toward her next
book project, which is a study of public memory and ideal citizenship that examines (neo)classical
influences from ancient Rome on U.S. culture through the construction of monuments and
memorials. Her dossier speaks unequivocally to her impressive scholarship and growing positive
reputation in the field of classical rhetoric.
It is clear from all seven external letters that Dr. Lamp is engaging important issues in her field,
both thematically and methodologically. Paraphrasing, C6/L2 writes that Lamp is producing
important, significant scholarship that challenges and persuasively revises long established views
of some of the discipline s most basic assumptions regarding the history of rhetoric and the
definition of rhetoric itself. The cornerstone of Dr.

How Did Marco Polo Influence The World
Marco Polo: The Influence of His Travels Hearing the name Marco Polo tends to draw the image
of a great explorer, the captivating storyteller or simply just the game kids play in the pool.
However, Marco Polo s adventures into the East have contributed beyond just an exciting bedtime
tale. The day Marco Polo left with his father and uncle to travel through Asia in 1271 was an event
that led to fascinating discoveries and his documentation of those experiences allowed for many
progressions to take place in the European world. While some historians question the truthfulness
behind the stories told, implying that Marco Poloexaggerated his findings and possibly depth of
his journey, the influence of his book, The Book of Marvels, is prevalent in European history.
This essay will recall the travels of the Venetian explorer Marco Polo and emphasize how his
stories played a role in European economy, the inspiration for later explorers and its impact on
history.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father, Niccolo, and his uncle, Maffeo, had traveled far in order to practice trade; it was at
seventeen years old when Marco Polo joined them on their journey. A vital factor that played into
the significance of their travels was the society s perspective on outside lands during that time.
Laurance Bergreen recalls in her book Marco Polo: From Venice to Xanadu that, in an uncertain
world, thirteenth century Venetians could feel certain of a few things, exemplifying the risk of
heading East . During this time in the late 1200s the East was referred to as the Mongol Empire.
Although Marco Polo was not the first of Europeans to venture through Mongolian territory the
European society still lacked knowledge and understanding of cultures in Eastern Asia. Deciding to
travel there was considered bold being that the European s interpretation of cultures in the East were

City Of Fortune
Many books have been written on the topic of cities. They are great way to represent a larger
view of the time period that the books focus on. City of fortune does exactly that by showing
how Venice fell in power during the 1400 s. In a very similar regard a book called Lords of the
Sea did the same thing. They both focused on broad events, cultural interactions, and great
peoples to get their point across. By comparing how they both approach the same the same sort of
topic, one can get an idea of how well City of Fortune completes its goal of showing a good
representation of the 1400 s.
Like in lords of the sea, City of fortune does not focus on the small things. Aside from a few first
person accounts most of the book is based on the larger details of the city. The author does this
to not give an impression of what the people were like, but to show how empires in general acted
against each other. With this larger approach to viewing the city one can get a better view of the
cities place within the time period. This can be done by focusing on military events, because more
often than not because most significant changes in power and policy happen with war. This ... Show

view of how Venice interacted with people, but also how the French acted as well. Through this
one can understand better the cultural impacts Venice had on others, and the impact of other
countries on Venice during a larger time period. Without this sort of worldview of Venice then the

Summary Of The Song Landslide
Landslide, by Fleetwood Mac, is written to show how the removal of a loved one can impact
someone s life negatively or positively. The theme of the song can be found in several lyric such
as, Well, I ve been afraid of changin, cause I ve built my life around you (Fleetwood Mac). It is
said that if a couple thinks that their relationship is not going to work out, it can tumble over at
any time. The effects of shouting out and going for help may seem like a good idea, but it will
just bring down the avalanche right on top of the situation and collapse everything in. In Perks
of Being a Wallflower, Charlie experiences a loss of a close friend (Michael) to a suicide. Charlie
has the idea of coping with this death by writing in letters to his unnamed friend and this is a
reason why this is on the mixtape.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song represents the feeling of emptiness throughout life. Through all of Kurt Cobain s life, it
was mostly empty. People are searching for the theme, and that can be found in the lyrics, With
the lights out, it s less dangerous, / Here we are now; entertain us, / I feel stupid and contagious
(Nirvana). It is said that these lyrics show the security and satisfaction after shooting up with
heroin. The idea of drugs and sex is messed up but nothing can entertain a group of young teens.
People are trying to introduce this idea of heroin as an idea that is better than sex, which is almost
all that someone can say after shooting up too many times. Charlie soon finds the lifestyle inside

The Differences Between Legalism And Confucianism
Q: Han Fei Zi was known for synthesizing and refining the legalist theories and practices that had
been developed before him. Explain his views on law, statecraft and power. Comment on the
fundamental differences between Legalism and Confucianism.
Han Fei Tzu:
Legalism, is an ancient Chinese philosophy concerned with the art of rulership and the stability of
the state. Along with hundreds of other philosophical schools, legalism emerged during the Warring
States Period (453 422 BC), a time of intense political and intellectual turmoil. Unlike other schools
of thought, legalism defined the strength of the state, through a system of punishments and rewards,
propagated by common laws. Neither concerning itself with Confucian idealization of the past, or
the morality of man, legalisms pragmatic system of governance, as best defined by Han Fei Zi,
ended the hundreds of years of warfare and unified China. As aforementioned, Legalism was at the
forefront of philosophical discourse during the Warring States Period. The Warring States Period
was a time of both immense growth and conflict, as the remaining seven states fought over the
dominance of China. Although through much of the Warring States Period, the Zhou Dynasty
claimed dominance over China, by the end of the two hundred and twenty five year long period,
the Kingdom of Qin emerged victorious. While much of the Warring States Period consisted of
warfare, the era also saw the spread of philosophical ideas throughout

The Key Of The Exposition
Second, I will talk about the form in these horn concerti. In classical period, sonata form was very
famous and every composer in this era liked to use this form. Exposition has two themes in

first and second themes. Composer in classical era always put same key when exposition ended.
Development opening always the same key of the exposition ended and puts many different keys
in. The end of development is a re transition. This will take the development to recapitulation and

He also putted cadenza after in the end of this movement. Mozart was not wrote the cadenza for
horn soloist. Horn players have to make cadenza by themselves.
Second movement of this horn concerto is a Romance in Ab Major. This form is a ternary form.
Mozart puts horn and orchestra together to play this melody. Mozart used two themes and some
melodic link to connect all movement. The first four measures of the beginning showed up two
times in this movement. This third movement is a rondo form. The sections of this movement are
ABACA. A section repeated three times. Mozart putted codetta in the last section. And he used the
continuing triple notes to make this piece more excited. At the same time, the theme of this
movement sounds like Mozart s piano concerto No.22. Even these two pieces do not have the
exactly same melody, but still can figured out the similar theme between these two pieces.
This is interesting evidence about Mozart s four concertos. His first movements of his concerti are
sonata form and third movements are rondo. Because Mozart s first horn concerto is an incomplete
piece, his second movement of this piece is a rondo. In the other hand, this movement originally
was a third movement. In his three concerti (without first horn concerto), his second movements
basically are romance. However, in No.2 horn concerto, Mozart only wrote Andante for second
movement. Even Mozart was

Durkheim s Work in Sociology Essay
Durkheim s Work in Sociology
Some studies maybe more recent, but Durkheim s work remains the most significant Sociological
analysis of Suicide in modern societies
Assess the extent to which Sociological arguments and evidence support this claim.
In regards to Suicide it would seem perhaps more realistic to consider the subject as an individual
and personal act, a job which might seem more suitable for Psychologists to explain, it may not
seem an obvious subject for a Sociologist to study. In the past it has been more commonly thought
that Suicide was a result of a person s mental state, however suicide was given an all new

Also the statistics showed that the suicide rate dropped in times of war or political upheaval, For
example, the suicide rate dropped 14 percent after war broke out between Austria and Italy in 1866.
And by using multivariate analysis Durkheim confirmed his theory that religion was a main factor
and that it wasnt just dependent on some nations. He found that in Bavaria, which has the highest
number of Roman Catholics in Germany also has the lowest suicide rate.
Continuing on from his research and by using Empirical evidence Durkheim determined that there
were four types of suicide; Altruistic, Fatalistic, Anomic and Egoistic. And that these suicides were
a result of Social Integration or Moral Regulation and the excess or lack of either.
Altruistic is a result of over integration, a self sacrifice out of duty to others or to benefit others.
For example, Hindu widows would kill themselves at their husband s funeral. Egoistic is a result
of under integration, such is when a person isn t sufficiently part of a group to which they should
belong. It can be argued that this is one of the reasons why Protestants are more prone to suicide
than Catholics, because there is a lesser sense of community. Fatalistic is a result of over
regulation, in the case of when a person is too restricted by

Taking a Look at Myocardial Infraction
Around every thirty four seconds in the United States, another individual falls as a victim to a
myocardial infraction. A myocardial infraction or more commonly known as a heart attack, occurs
when the blood flow that brings the oxygen to the heart is reduced or cut off completely. When the
blood cannot reach parts of your heart, that area is becoming damaged or unfortunately if
treatment is prolonged for too long then the heart cells will most likely die. Heart attacks can
occur in anybody no matter the age, gender, or nationality, but statistically men over the age of
45 and to women over the age of 55 are at the greatest risk of a heart attack (Ricciotti). In the
1800s George Ebers discovered an ancient Egyptian scroll that has been dated back to around
1500 B.C. On the scroll that Ebers found, it listed many things about the heart and how it worked.
It also showed Ebers that the Egyptians were able to identify certain symptoms of heart attacks, as
well. The scroll that he found showed us how much the ancient Egyptians actually knew about heart
related diseases, despite the technology differences that we have today compared to what they had.
A man named Edwin Smith discovered another scroll dating back to the 17th century. The scroll
that Smith found held evidence of multiple surgeries that were performed, including heart surgeries.
This proves that the real discoverers of heart related illnesses in fact dates back all the way to the
times of the ancient Egyptians.

Free Speech Limitations
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
s words ring true in the vast majority of the population of America. According to Associated Press
National Constitution Center Poll, which was featured on the Washington Post, stated that 70
percent of all Americans believe that freedom of speechshould mean that people should have the
right to say what they believe in, even if they take positions that seem deeply offensive to most
people. Based on the supporting evidence from the AP National Constitution Center Poll, the
majority of Americans are agreeing with the idea of freedom of speech. They are confident that
we as Americans deserve to speak on what we strongly believe in, regardless of the highly
offensive words that most people seem to be repulsive to. Many Americans have also realized that...

Free speech was, and still is included in a free society. Considering the fact that a free society
depends on a lot of basic things, in which free speech is one of them. Free speech is the
foundation that America was built on, the evidence supports this claim because of the fact that
the document of the first amendment was written based on free speech. In addition, It s a
crucial role because of the fact that we as citizens have a voice to condemn the negative things in
our society, in which we live in. As a result, we are always reconstructing and making freedom of
speech our necessary rule. Therefore, it s a top priority for a free society to have, and will
always keep. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali states, Free speech is the bedrock of liberty and a free society.
and yes, it includes the right to blaspheme and offend. This obviously justifies that free speech is
an essential component of a free society. Furthermore, it justifies that free speech should not be

Cafe Society CAFГ‰ SOCIETY, A TIMELESS ALLURE LINGERING OVER COFFEE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS IS A RITUAL THAT NEVER LOSES ITS APPEAL: MUCH HAS CHANGED OVER THE GENERATIONS, BUT THE GLOBAL CAFГ‰ SOCIETY KEEPS IT TIMELESS GLAMOUR In 1971, Starbucks was just a single bar in Seattle s market plaza. Ten years later, the one location had become five, and the company began importing their own blends of coffee. The legend surrounding the birth of Starbucks tells of Howard Schulz, one of the company s buyers, making a trip to Italy in 1983, and being astounded to learn that the Country had more than 200,000 cafГ©s selling espresso coffee and that Milan, a city the size of Philadelphia, had more than 1,500. But in the first half of the 20th Century, it wasn t just highbrow culture that was discussed in New York or European capital cities. CafГ©s were a magnet for bohemians with their disorderly lives, bourgeois women who were in search of adventure and models who d appear in sophisticated clothes and jewels, like those featured in the photos by Cecil Beaton for Vogue. These were the cafГ©s for the sophisticated avant garde culture made up of beautiful people and bright young things , a generation that would become immortalized with the name CafГ© Society , which was a term coined by the columnist for the New York American, Maury Paul, whose writings inspired the 1938 film by Paramount Pictures, Cafe Society. In the U.S, the rise of Cafe Society coincided with the end of Prohibition (December, 1933) and the growing popularity of photojournalism. All of a sudden, photographers were taking pictures of everything, everywhere as long as there was someone famous in the shot. Then the What s The Rush? campaign stressed the importance of people stretching out to enjoy themselves with friends in the face of increasingly frenetic lifestyles (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). • 4. Magna Carta Sealing C.Sealing of the Magna Carta In May 1215, a group of leading nobles renounced their homage to King John, and this large scale defection to the rebel cause following the capitulation of London aroused a sentiment of negotiation in the king, who agreed to meet the rebels at Runnymede to negotiate peace. Until this point, many of the rebels just wanted John I to be dethroned outright, but King John handing out the metaphorical olive branch allowed more moderate thought to gain momentum. Some began to hope that the king was being genuine in his repentance and thusly, a group of moderates anxious to end the rebellion, argued for compromise and their terms of settlements were the Magna Carta. After this, the Magna Carta lost the support of the English clergymen, who had originally been on the side of the rebels. In late 1215, the charter disappeared, and civil war broke out. • 5. Deterioration of the Nuclear Family Deterioration of the Nuclear Family What is a family? The meaning of family has changed throughout history. It means something different to many people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau: A family includes a householder and one or more people living in the same household who are related to the householder by birth, marriage, or adoption. All people in a household who are related to the householder are regarded as members of his or her family. A family household may contain people not related to the householder, but those people are not included as part of the householder s family. Thus, the number of family households is equal to the number of families, but family households may include more members than do families. Not all households ... • 6. No Bruce Springsteen Or Billy Joel Concert The moment I stepped foot into the doorway, I knew that the night would not turn out the way I had expected. I was stunned in fear by the way people looked: tattoos, piercings, and hoodies was clearly the norm at the scene. The room was dark, and I felt the stuffy air choke me up. First impressions are everything, and this one was unlike any other; I was somewhat scared and uneasy. This is how I felt the night my friends introduced a new idea to go to a metal concertfor the first time. This was no Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel concert; it was a new entity that was explicitly more fierce and threatening that I have ever imagined. Metal concerts are dangerous and unappealing places where people fight, get hurt, and are reckless with their behavior; attending these concerts have demonstrated how revoking the people and venue can be, and have changed my views on them and musicforever. I heard a tap on the microphone, a loud squeal, and there I realized that this music was not meant for me. I am used to a nice soothing type of music: a good rhythm, with calming lyrics. This was the complete opposite. The lead singer was screaming these inaudible words into the microphone as he banged his head in a way that almost looked painful. The instruments were played recklessly with a force that was incredible: the drummer slammed the bass, guitarists shredded the chords, and everyone else yelled the lyrics. • 10. An Article On Food Assistance Programs Before We SNAP Food assistance programs in the United States have always generated a lot of debate among citizens, congress, and the media. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, the truth is that this program is designed to help those in need. According to an article in the Washington Post, Brad Plumer states that there are at least 47 million people who collect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aide (Plumer), otherwise known as SNAP, from the government. These people are collecting this in order to survive; however the United States government has targeted SNAP in order to cut down on the national debt. Robert Rector believes that this reform is much needed and should have been done sooner, but Dottie Rosenbaum argues that this benefit is a necessity in the United States. Many people often think of the negative side effects of collecting this aid, and how the bad outweighs the good. Robert Rector is a senior researcher for Heritage.org, and believes that SNAP needs to be reformed for the good of the nation. Robert Rector also played a vital role in the 1996 welfare reformation legislation. Throughout his service to his country he has earned the nickname as an intellectual godfather when it comes to welfare reform. In his article he covers the negative side effects of being on SNAP, discusses the benefits of reforming the program, and covers the possible outcomes if it is reformed. He argues that if it is reformed it will adversely affect the dependency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. A Dream Without My Dream Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain Martin Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the world. Imagine what the world would be like if no one had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn t have any of the great inventions that are present today. There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole of the United States probably wouldn t have been discovered if it wasn t Christopher Columbus dreamto find India, and we d probably all be running about wearing loin clothes in the dark like shown in the Flintstones! That is, if the human race didn t end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had dreams , and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up at 4 o clock in the morning staring out my window daydreaming. Although chances are that I m not really day dreaming if it s 4 in the morning right? Ok, so I guess night dreaming but you know, without the sleeping. A smile grew across the brown haired boy s face as the thought of his black haired best friend popped into his head. • 12. Equality Exposed In Ayn Rand s Anthem In the book Anthem written by Ayn Rand we are introduced to a man named Equality 7 2521 who lives in a dystopian city. He faces many difficulties within the course of the story and finds out that thinking for what s best for yourself is better than the community. Equality catches interest in a woman in his city named Liberty 5 3000 but sadly cannot associate with her because men are not allowed to even notice women. Equality becomes very critical and rebellious throughout the course of the story just by disobeying the laws of his city. Based on the number of times Liberty was actually mentioned in the story she was loving and loyal towards Equality. Equality is a considerably critical man in the story, here are some examples. Equality states I owe nothing to my brothers nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others. I covet no man s soul, nor is my soul theirs to covet (Rand 97). Throughout the story Equality sees many problems he faces with much thought, he finds the problem and attempts to make it better. Later in the story Equality runs off to the Uncharted forest and has to find ways to survive and says why the best in me had been my sins and transgressions and why I had never felt any guilt in my sins (Rand 98). • 13. The Iran Contra Affair Involving Ronald Reagan In class, we discussed the Iran Contra Affair involving Ronald Reagan. However, we did not go in depth about public opinion, George H.W. Bush s involvement, or how people feel about it today. This paper will seek to continue this topic. For example, the Iran Contra polls showed that most Americans did not believe Regan s cover stories, yet there was never a push for him to pay the political price, which would ultimately have been impeachment. Thus this paper will further attempt to understand the mindset of people that allowed these events to occur with little penalty. The Public Opinion To begin, Congress, by fair vote, decided in the 1980s that the United States should not assist the contras fighting the socialist Sandinista government of Nicaragua (Corn 2006). Yet, the Reagan White House concocted several imaginative ways to pull an end run around democracy (Corn 2006). Reagan s decisions such as selling weapons to Iran were made with the knowledge that he would not suffer a decline in presidential approval. Thus, Reagan took various steps that were violations of law that not only involved himself, but members of the CIA. By 1986, two big revelations happened that caused this scandal to abrupt publically. The first was the shoot down of a cargo plane over Nicaragua and the admission by the sole survivor that the plane had been delivering arms to the Contras against congressional restrictions (Kornbluh 2011). The second, revelation was the news story of Lebanon that stated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it is not only essential, but also vital to increase knowledge on the subject matter, raise general awareness, and promote shared decision making about screening and testing procedures. The Iowa model was specifically indented to be used by nurses and other healthcare professionals because it assisted them during various intervention stages, such as development and implementation, as said caregivers provided key knowledge to individuals about disease risks and decision making tools. The non clinical nature of the setting was well chosen, and it directly correlated with the HBM, since church attending men would be more morally obligated to take preventive action, and receive timely treatment if they had any health concerns. In addition, the church setting was an appropriate venue, and it was relevant to the Community Empowerment Model because it allowed for direct interaction with community leaders, such as pastors, to build strong lasting relationships with them. The combination of the three above mentioned models has led to the development of this successful method that have encouraged men to execute easily prostate cancer screening decisions, and to become more perceptive and aware of their health and welfare, while developing strong therapeutic relationships with individuals outside the sanctuaries, such as oncology nurses. General Joseph Hooker s Union corps mounted a powerful assault on Lee s left flank that began the Battle of Antietam, and the single bloodiest day in American military history. Repeated Union attacks, and equally vicious Confederate counterattacks, swept back and forth across Miller s cornfield and the West Woods. Late in the day, Major. General Ambrose Burnside s corps pushed across a bullet strewn stone bridge over Antietam Creek and with some difficulty managed to imperil the Confederate right. At a crucial moment, A.P. Hill s division arrived from Harpers Ferry, and counterattacked, driving back Burnside and saving the day for the Army of Northern Virginia. During the night, both armies tended to their wounded and consolidated their lines. In spite of crippling casualties, Lee continued to skirmish with McClellan on the 18th, while removing his wounded south of the Potomac.
