"The road to success begins and ends with passion" once quoted by, Tom Krause. Walking towards
success is a rough path but with passion everything will be worth it. Passion towards a certain goal
will be more effective. Working or doing what a person love with passion will bring joy and
fulfillment to a person thus will make a person work even harder. "You have this position but you're
not happy. You should be very happy, that's why work and money is like the same." For Mr. Abella,
you should be happy with what job position you are in. Happiness with your job consists of passion
and rewards you get from it. Not being able to meet one's worth in a job, even if you are passionate
about it will only lessen your enthusiasm towards work. People should choose a career they are
passionate about for being passionate with what you are doing comes excellence. That is why when
love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece. People who are very passionate with their work
are more likely to become more successful than those people who are not passionate with what they
are doing. With passion, people will make a difference beyond their dreams. People with passion are
dreamers, who are not asleep and are making their dreams a

Relationship Between Religion and Art in Medieval,...
In a brightly–lit corner of St Peter's Basilica, sitting behind a clear panel of glass, is Michelangelo's
Pietà. A marble–white sculpture of the Mother Mary, her eyes downcast, gazes at her Son who lies
dead across her lap. She seems both devastated and deep in thought. She is young and beautiful, in
line with the old belief that a perfect soul meant a perfect outward appearance (Smart 122). She is
famous and celebrated, and is visited by Christians from every nation.
In another part of the world, The Holy Virgin Mary by Chris Ofili resides in the Brooklyn Art

same substance, while surrounded by cutouts from pornographic magazines. The work ... Show

The Church became less of a holy symbol of God's presence on earth, and more of a machine to help
ambitious men up the ladder of political power and influence (Murray Michelangelo 7). The Age of
Enlightenment changed the medieval time's thirst for God to a thirst for knowledge and science
(Gardner 396).
In present times, the influence of the Church continues to decline. "The 21st century is seeing the
most intense attacks on belief in God in general and the Roman Catholic Church in particular."
(Tiglao A13)This is not at all helped by the countless scandals endured by the Vatican today. Well–
known examples include their opposition to stem cell research (zu Eltz et al. 211) and sex abuse
cases involving priests. The controversy of sexually abusive priests has proven so outrageous that
many have demanded the dismissal of countless Church officials and even Pope Benedict XVI
himself ("Pope undeterred by abuse scandal, reform calls" 8).
Religion has endured a rocky road over the course of history, and so has art. Indeed it has evolved
from the solemn themes of medieval art, to the romantic, whimsical mood of Renaissance art, to the
shock value of contemporary art.
The Medieval times has its share of famous art styles, two of the most significant being Byzantine
and Gothic. The Byzantine era of art was one of the Western world's longest and most unique. It was

Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother Amy
What does it mean to be American? The American identity has always been a complicated
discussion. It is by nature identified by diversity. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the
person and others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle
Hymn of the Tiger Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of
this American woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity;
inherited identity; resisted identity and resolved identity. On October 26th 1962, one of the most
known authors was born: Amy Chua. Amy Chua was born in Champaign, Illinois in the Unites
States. She was raised as a catholic. Despite her having ancestry whom are Chinese, to be more
specific Kokkein dialect, she proudly carries around an American identity. She was born in the year
of the Tiger. In their culture, that represents people who are fearless, powerful, noble, and
authoritative. "My family comes from southern China's Fujian Province, which is famous for
producing scholars and scientists." Her parents migrated from the Philippines to the States before
she was born in order to continue their educational studies. Her father, "Leon Ong Chua is an
American electrical engineer and computer scientist. He is a professor in the electrical engineering
and computer sciences department at the University of California, Berkeley." His nationality is
Holko and American. On the other side, the authors mother, Diana Chua was born in China and
moved to the Philippines at the age of 2. She converted to Catholicism when she was in high school
and received a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Santo Tomas. Amy has three
sisters and they are all known to be successful in their own ways. Amy Chua has 2 daughters:
Sophia and Louisa. With Chua's Tiger parenting methods, Sophia seems to respect and listen to her
mother which is the opposite than Lulu (Louisa). Lulu has more western characteristics. For
example, she talks back and doesn't respect her mother's orders. Briefly, these aspects form her
native identity. Amy Chua's evolution seemed to involve her inherited identity. Confucianism is an
aspect that is very present in the memoir. It is

The urinary tract was the leading site of nosocomial infections. Of the total infections noted, 44.1%
were in the urinary tract, 28.4% in the respiratory tract, 15.1% were surgical wounds, 8.1%
cutaneous infections, 1.4% bacteremia, and 2.9% in other sites. The frequency by which the
pathogens were isolated in these sites paralleled the instrumentations done in these sites.
The gram–negative bacilli were the primary pathogens seen with Pseudomonas spp, Proteus spp,
Enterobacter spp, E. coli, and Klebsiella spp accounting for 74% of the pathogens isolated. Candida
spp was the only fungal pathogen seen. Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus
were the predominant gram–positive isolates. Unusual pathogens like Alkaligenes fecaelis and
Acinetobacter spp were also isolated. The nosocomial isolates at Santo Tomas University Hospital
have changed in the last five years to a dominance of gram–negative bacilli.
Sensitivity tests of isolated pathogens to representative antibiotics showed an alarming percentage of
antibiotic–resistant strains. [Phil J Microbiol Infect Dis 1990; 19(1):20–26]

Essay On Eggycakes
Business concept
The idea behind Eggycakes, came to us when we travelled to Hong Kong in search for a business
idea to showcase how Hong Kong does their egg waffles in a traditional way and how we will
incorporate the traditional way to our modernized way. Egg waffles in Hong Kong only comes in
two flavors, the classic one which tastes more like the usual pancake but lighter in taste and more on
the crispiness and chocolate. Which is why we came up with bringing egg waffles to life by offering
unique and wide variety of flavors to choose from plus toppings they can add to personalize their
waffle. With that in mind, we are to place our business around a campus having students as our
priority target market for we believe that students as well as teenagers in general are fond of trying
new food especially desserts that satisfy their sweet tooth.

It happens most especially to wives that just stayed in the house and all alone.
There are a lot of instances that husbands tend to abuse their wives submission to them which can be
an issue around us because even though wives are to submit, they should still learn to treat their
wives in a very special way with love.
3. Pre–marital Sex
Premarital sex simply means having sex before marriage. It could be a very big issue all around
right now especially that we have media everywhere. It is right for people especially the younger
ones (teenager) to know that pre–marital sex is something that they should really take importance to
especially for women. Because once a woman or a girl committed it and got pregnant, there will be
a lot of consequences that they should be ready to face and one day, they'll realize that it was one of
the biggest mistakes that they had made in their life.
IV. Issues in the Philippine Context
1. Infidelity
In the context of Filipino culture, infidelity is not just against our moral but also against our faith.
Being a Christian country, we practice a monogamous marriage. Having an affair with somebody
else is a very bad image in this country especially when you're a woman because being a wife you
are known to be modest, loyal and faithful to your spouse. It is also a great issue when a woman has
affairs with a younger man because in

How To Write A Personal Autobiography

first day of high school. It was there that I was able to gain better social skills and implement the
lesson instilled in me from my earlier years. I was born from two Filipino immigrants. My mother

attended St. Pancratius for the entirety of my elementary and middle school education. The teachers
there insisted on not only teaching math and English, but also sought to help build our character
through bible study. At a young age we learned good manners and practiced core values. Eventually,
the time came for me to graduate from my secluded small school and discover a larger more
anarchistic world, high school. As I transitioned into high school, I brought those standards and
values that I learned with me to help me succeed in class and on the court.
Using these skills, I was able to adapt easily into my new environment. I attained important social
traits such as tolerance and patience. My educational environment helped build upon the lessons that
my parents emphasized. The person I am today was molded by firm parents and diligent teachers.
The atmosphere at Lakewood High School exposed me to a diversity of problems that I had to
overcome. Through experience I have gained a deeper understanding of myself and because of that I
am able to improve and adapt to anything. I have been shaped into a well rounded individual that is

It Was A Revolutionary Product
It was not long ago that people were using a "brick–like" device as their mobile phone and the only
function of this device was to send and receive calls (Borgobello, 2013). Not only was the device
bulky and heavy, but the battery was also subpar – it could only last for approximately 35 minutes'
worth of talk–time and it took roughly 10 hours to charge the device. This device was extremely
expensive at that time – costing $3,995 (Hakkarainen, 2010). Despite such drawbacks, the product
was a success. There was a huge demand for it – especially towards the businessmen and to those
who could afford it (Wolphin, 2014). This was mainly due to it being the first of its kind – it was a
revolutionary product. It was the first cordless and "truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The mobile phones in the past, presently termed as "basic phones" or "feature phones", are those
phones which only feature the basic functions which are expected of a phone such as calling and
texting (Lee, 2010). Now, people own "smartphones". Oxford Dictionary defined smartphone as "a
mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen
interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps." Indeed, it
has become common for people to own a smartphone. Smura et al. (2009) stated that, "mobile
phones have become an inseparable part of everyday life and a majority of people carry them all the
time" and such is true especially towards the millennials. There are some people, on the other hand,
believe that a mobile phone need only to function as a communication device and other features
such as a High Definition (HD) display are unnecessary and would only lead to additional costs.
Walsh and White (2006), however, stated that, "smartphones are no longer perceived as luxury but a
necessity in people's daily life." Walsh and White's statement is tenable. One of the basic
characteristic of people is their ability to adapt (Massey, 2013). People may have gotten used to the
extra features that smartphones possess and had integrated these to their daily lives and later on
came to expect that other phones would also have

Varying Temperature Lab Report
The Effect of Varying Temperature and pH on enzymatic activity of α–amylase Introduction
An enzyme is a biological molecule which acts as a catalyst for chemical reactions without being
altered in the process. Enzymes have a defined three–dimensional globular structure composed of
approximately 100–500 amino acids. The first enzyme to be discovered was diastase which
catalyses the breakdown of starch into maltose by the French chemist Anselme Payen in 1833.
An enzyme substrate is the material which interacts with an enzyme. An enzymatic reaction occurs
if there is a substrate present and if the active site of the enzyme is empty, generally an enzyme will
only react and bind to a specific substrate or group of substrates. Enzymes are not ... Show more

If an enzymes active site is altered it cannot function and is therefore denatured.
The objective of this experiment is to analyse the effectiveness of alpha–amylase reacting with 1%
Starch and NaCl under varying temperatures and pH. The effectiveness of the alpha–amylase is
measured by recording the amount of starch present during varying stages of the reaction.
Method
The experiment was carried out in two parts, reaction rate verses temperature and reaction rate
verses pH. For reaction rate verses temperature five test tubes were labelled with temperatures, E
0°C, E RT, E 37°C, E 60°C and E 100°C for the enzyme alpha–amylase. Another five test tubes
were also labelled with the temperatures S 0ºC, S RT, S 37ºC, S 60ºC and S 100ºC for the substrate
1% Starch and NaCl.
A pipette was used to move 2ml of the substrate into each of the corresponding five test tubes and
2ml of buffer solution, pH 6.8, was added into the five substrate test tubes (S 0ºC, S RT, S 37ºC, S
60ºC and S 100ºC). The same amount of enzyme was transferred into its corresponding test tubes (E
0°C, E RT, E 37°C, E 60°C and E 100°C). The corresponding enzyme and substrate test tubes were
equilibrated to their corresponding temperatures. Both the test tubes E 0°c and S 0°c were cooled
down to 0°c using a beaker of ice and a thermometer. The room temperature test tubes were already

Twitter provides free APIs from which a sampled view can be easily obtained. It helps build a map
spread model. In line with this, the researchers came up with an idea of working on a research using
these Twitter data, focusing on the so–called "tweets" regarding diseases and health, specifically, the
flu or influenza.
Furthermore, previous studies were made regarding this topic. In 2008, there was a website called
"Google Flu Trends" that took data from Google, Facebook, and Twitter itself [2]. It was widely
used in its release, but it was proven to have inconsistencies with regards to its data [2].
Back in 2011–2013, Google Flu Trends overestimated the number of people who had flu by 50%
[3]. One possible cause was its inclusion of data which contained the word "flu" or "influenza",
wherein the person who "tweeted" or posted about it did not have the flu at all [3].
There was also a study that made a precision of 0.78 or 78% using the Naïve Bayes Classification
algorithm to identify tweets that mention flu or flu–like symptoms [4]. As mentioned earlier,
previous researchers had difficulty classifying these tweets as some data gathered got accepted even
though the person did not have it.
According to the Department of Health of the Philippines [5], getting flu is possible by contacting
items that are contaminated through the discharges of an infected

Abstract
A standard acid solution like HCl can be used as titrant for the analysis of both soda ash and a
carbonate–bicarbonate mixture. In the analysis of soda ash, the volume needed to neutralize the soda
ash is used to compute for its alkalinity, in this experiment we obtained a 17.6 % alkalinity with an
error of 15.14% In the analysis of a carbonate–bicarbonate mixture two indicators (phenolphthalein
and methyl orange) were used. The first endpoint determines the half–neutralization of the carbonate

Three trials were made and the average percentage alkalinity was reported.
Analysis of Carbonate–Bicarbonate Mixture For this experiment, a pH meter was used so this part
of the experiment began with the calibration of the pH meter with specified buffers. The buret was
then filled with the standard HCl solution and a set–up for titration was prepared. 200g of the
carbonate–bicarbonate solid sample was weighed and dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water. The
sample solution was then transferred into a 250–ml volumetric flask and was diluted to the 250–mL
mark. The flask was inverted several times for uniform mixing. A 50–mL aliquot of the sample
solution was measured and placed unto a beaker. 3 drops of the phenolphthalein indicator was added
to the solution in the beaker. The electrode of the pH meter was then immersed in the beaker and the
solution containing the carbonate–bicarbonate mixture was titrated with the standard HCl solution to
the phenolphthalein endpoint. Readings of the pH were taken at an interval of 0.5 mL addition of the
titrant. After the first endpoint is obtained, 3 drops of the methyl orange was added to the same
solution and was titrated with the standard acid until the formation of an orange–colored solution.
Readings of the pH were also taken at 0.5 mL addition of the titrant. Results and Discussion

Political Review of Blood Diamond

The film starts out as Solomon Vandy and his son, Dia, were on their way home and notices that a
group of rebel forces were bound for their town. Many people were killed, some who were lucky got
out (including Solomon's family) while some unfortunate ones got captured and made to work in the
mines like Solomon. They were made to mine for diamonds, blood diamonds. These gems are used
to fund wars throughout the country. While working in the mines, Solomon chanced upon a huge
pink diamond. He was caught by the commander of the rebels while he was trying to hide the gem.
The government forces then arrived, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tells the story of media people all over the world. That no matter how much you broadcast and
write about these stories, if no one takes the time to listen, it would all go to waste.
David Archer illustrates the government in its greatest moments and downfalls. His experiences and
sufferings corrupted him and turned him into a cynical self–important person he is at the start of the
movie. In his journey to find the diamonds, he eventually redeems himself. He views the cycle of
the blood diamonds as a never–ending cycle fuelled by the shady characters behind the government,
the diamond business, and the very people who unknowingly purchase these diamonds.
Much of what I discovered in watching this film has helped me see things in a different light. Not
just diamonds but every other product imaginable could've commenced the same chaos the
diamonds caused in Africa. This commotion may not only happen in Africa but also in any other
country. Innocent people like Solomon, who just wanted to live their life in a quiet environment, are
dragged into the turmoil constructed by the greedy individuals who only see money and power as
the most important things in this world. The fact that the rebels cut off the citizens' arms so that they
won't be able to vote was very disturbing. They recognize the people's power that's why they had to
prevent the citizens to vote, so that they could stay in power. The citizens have

Smoking is an addiction that can lead to very serious health threats, including lung disease, cancer
and stroke. The Campaign for Tobacco–Free Children reports startling statistics regarding teen
smoking: Every year more than 300,000 kids under the age of 18 start smoking. Approximately 30
percent of these new adolescent smokers will die from smoking–related causes. Understanding the
influences that cause teens to smoke may help parents find a way to approach their teens so that they
won't want to begin the habit.
Peer Pressure
As a part of teens' everyday lives, peer pressure can be a strong influence when it comes to smoking
that first cigarette. MayoClinic.com advises parents to expect that your child will be exposed to
friends who smoke and who encourage your child to join in. Initiating a conversation about how to
deal with the pressure to use tobacco products, alcohol or engage in other risky behavior can prepare
your child for situations in which you'd like him to say no. An interesting fact regarding peer
pressure and smoking is related by the

Social Justice And International Law
Having grown up in a developing country, and having lived in multiple countries as an immigrant
and a visible minority, I have seen and experienced varying degrees of inequality first hand. My
experiences as an immigrant and visible minority have transformed me into an advocate of social
justice and made me keenly aware of the complex issues facing immigrants. These experiences have
given me the desire to pursue a legal education, with a career goal of becoming a lawyer
specializing in labor and international law. I intend to utilize the knowledge gained in helping new
immigrants in my adopted country, Canada, gain a foothold in the Canadian job market.

Australian Nursing History
Australian History of Nursing
In 1788, several medical staff arrived in Sydney on 'The First Fleet' boat from England. Soon after
arriving, The Colonial Medical Service was established to provide basic medical care to the convicts
and others in the area. A temporary hospital, The Sydney Infirmary was created in Sydney Cove.
The general nursing duties were undertaken by untrained convicts to assist the medical staff. The
male assistants looked after the male patients and the female assistants looked after the female
patients. Many of the patients were being housed in tents on the hospital grounds. These extremely
harsh conditions generated a high death toll, this began the construction of a more permanent

Compare And Contrast Nude Vs Nude
Nakedness and Nudity are often used interchangeably. In Nude versus Naked, John Berger separates
them and finds distinguishable differences between them both. He had said that to be naked is to be
natural without clothes and pure in oneself and seen as such, while nude is to be naked but not to be
seen as one's self. All that is nude consequently, is considered naked but not all that is naked can be
nude.
Nakedness is the natural form of undress to be seen as is; while Nudity brings about implications
and accordingly suggests numerous underlying factors that add on to the view of the spectators on
the art presented to them. As we understand the view of art and in determining how one is Nude and
the other–Naked, It is of necessity to understand a bit of background on art, how it is regarded and
seen, and its exhibition in the Philippines

The awareness of the idea of giving art its proper freedom of expression, only came into being in the

these objects was a way of life rather than just something made for the pleasure of viewing or

Analysis on Digital Media Participation: How Fans Interact...
Digital Media Participation: How Fans Interact Online is a short documentary about how fans show
their support to their celebrity idols with the emergence of social media. Our group chose this topic
because we notice how fans show their support by going to mall shows or by using certain hashtags
on Twitter and make them trend worldwide. This documentary film aims to change the perspective
people have on fans that they are cheap, desperate, and low class. With this interactivity and
digitalization come a new form of community that sprouted from the computer–mediated
communication (CMC) (McQuail 150–51), the virtual community. According to McQuail, this
virtual community "can be formed by any number of individuals by way of the Internet at their own
choice" (150) and "usually based on some common interest" (150). Fan clubs before are known to
be supporters who would go to shows, guestings, and tapings of their idols but now fan clubs could
also sprout online. Fans have used new media to interact with co–fans who have obviously have the
same interests (their idol or idols). By then, a public sphere would emerge in the new media. What is
interesting in the documentary is that some of the fans we interviewed are not really good at
interacting personally but are able to make friends online because of the people who understand
them and of what they call now as "feels" (a superlative form of having so much feelings towards
someone or something). With mostly narrations about the

Preparation of Aspirin and Determination of the Melting Point
PREPARATION OF ASPIRIN AND
DETERMINATION OF THE MELTING POINT
Ferrer, Lara Melissa V.

University of Santo Tomas
Manila, Philippines
ABSTRACT
This experiment involved three steps: synthesis of aspirin, isolation and purification, and the
estimation of purity of the final product. The synthesis involved the reaction of salicylic acid and
acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst, phosphoric acid, H3PO4. When the aspirin was
prepared, it was isolated and filtered. The percentage yield of the synthesis was calculated to be
78.42%. The experimental melting point range of aspirin was determined to be 122 –132°C. Due to
its wide range, and lower value than that of the theoretical melting point of 136°C, it was ... Show

Salicylic acid is also used in a variety of other personal care items such as dandruff shampoo,
antiseptic and toothpaste. [2] METHODOLOGY
3.0g of salicylic acid was weighed then 3.0mL of acetic anhydride and 6 drops of 85% H3PO4 were
added to it. The mixture was warmed over a water bath for 5 minutes while stirring. After warming,
20 drops of distilled water was slowly added. 15mL of water was added then the solution was heated
until it became clear. It was allowed to cool and was placed in an ice bath until the solution becomes
cloudy. Using pre–weighed filter paper, the mixture was filtered and was allowed to dry in the filter
paper.
In determining the melting point range of the aspirin, a capillary tube (sealed at one end) was one–
third–filled with the dried aspirin. The capillary tube and a thermometer were immersed in an oil
bath. The temperature at which the solid started to melt and the temperature when the entire sample
was completely liquefied were recorded as the melting point temperature range.
DISCUSSION OF DATAAND RESULTS
Aspirin was synthesized by reacting salicylic acid with acetic anhydride in the presence of
phosphoric acid, H3PO4, as a catalyst:
The aspirin was synthesized when it was placed in a cold bath. Purification was necessary to remove
any unreacted salicylic acid and acetic anhydride as well as the acetic product and phosphoric acid.
Acetic acid and phosphoric acid are water soluble so they were removed by

Thesis Statement Of Architectural Drawing
CHAPTER 1: THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
"An artist can make a cart with square wheels, but an architect can't" – Louis Kahn, American
Architect.
An architectural drawing is a technical drawing of a structure or building. These are used by
architects to develop a design, to communicate their ideas and concepts, to convince clients, to
enable a building contractor to construct it, and to make a record of a building that already exists.
Drawing, sketches and animations are just some of non–verbal languages used by architects to show
their works. Truly, architects communicate through drawings. Architecture students are going to be
doing a lot of drawing in their five years. Sketching and drawing will seems to be the foundation ...

Malunggay's Moringa Oil Seen as Biofuel Source
As the Philippines seeks better ways to use its resources in combating climate change, a new
discovery by a Filipino biotechnology company based in the U.S. has tapped a wonder plant in the
country as a source of biofuel.
Malunggay, scientifically known as Moringa Oleifera, which is widely grown in the Philippines and
is considered one the world's most useful plants, is found as a good source of Moringa oil. This oil is
believed to be a biofuel source.
SECURA International announced that malunggay oil is being tapped by the North American

The institution has authenticated that the plant has passed the standards of the bio diesel.
In 2007, the Philippine government declared and indorsed jathropa plant or locally known as tuba–
tuba as the source of bio diesel. Jathropa is not an edible plant. It cannot be even consumed by
animals because of its toxicity. According to experts, the remnants of jathropa, after extraction,
becomes a nuclear waste. Malunggay, on the other hand, is a hundred percent usable and all of its
parts are biodegradable.
Moringa (Malunggay) as bio diesel will help the country in the problem caused by climate change.
It will also elevate the living conditions of the poor because raising malunggay requires no big

Example Of Demythologizing Rizal
Demythologizing Rizal Whether you are discussing your neighbor, your foe, a government official
or somebody who lived 200 years prior, sex never neglects to catch individuals' attention and
imagination. In spite of a few affirmations about Adolf Hitler's personal life, people still insist about
the gossip that he was an illegitimate son of Klara Polzl and Jose Rizal when Rizal visited Linz in
1887. Individuals attempted to elaborate on the sexual experiences of previous presidents or our
heroes. Many inquired as to whether Andres Bonifacio's dowager, Gregoria de Jesus, was truly
raped by Colonel Agapito Bonzon when they were in imprisonment, or whether without a doubt
General Antonio Luna's better half truly was a presidential progenitor named Isidra Cojuangco. At
whatever point there is negative information around a hero, it is dependably seen as tattles paying
little heed to the documentation. Perhaps this is a method for adapting, on the grounds that our

The United States And The Colonization Of The Philippines
In 1889 America colonize the Philippines because of imperialism. After the colonization of the
Philippines the Filipinos could come and work in the United States because they had passports that
allowed them. The Filipinos then work in agriculture, fishery and service industry, however when
they are in the mainland and technically they were not aliens because the Philippines is U.S.
territory, the Filipinos weren't exempted to racism. In the 1930 signs that says "Positively no
Filipinos allowed" can be seen in stores. In the United States. The signs show an example of how
Filipinos were racially discriminated against. Filipinos were racially discriminated against because
they're not white and pro–imperialist animators created cartoons that depict Filipinos and created
stereotypes against them. These stereotypes were created and shown to the people to justify the
means of the United States in colonizing other countries. The two main Filipino stereotypes are they
are uneducated and uncivilized.
In the media or newspaper cartoons, Filipinos are shown sitting in a classroom being taught by
Uncle Sam. The Filipinos in the United States were seen as uneducated people because of how the
media portrayed them. In Asia the University of Santo Tomas is one of the oldest universities, and
can be found in the Philippines, in fact it's older than Harvard by more than two decades but that

Jimenez was responsible for coining the latest tourism come–on, "It's More Fun in the Philippines."
He talked about literature and how it can help the tourism industry which, as we all know, has yet to
be fully exploited. So many countries in our part of the world, particularly Thailand, have reaped
millions from the flood of tourists visiting these countries. We get only a trickle, for though we have
great possibilities, there is not enough global interest in our country and its attractions. Much of this
is due to our own myopia, of our leaders who do not understand or realize the myriad possibilities
here if we only know how to use them! Jimenez should produce long–range programs. This is one
common fault of government; a new administration takes over and new policies are made no
continuity is pursued. Will the slogan, "It's More Fun in the Philippines" last only three years from
now.? Will it be replaced when a new administration takes over? This is a minor point; will
initiatives today be continued in the future? Does the present administration accept the past
administration program enough to pursue its good aspects? Will our tourism executives use them?
Just consider this: how many visitors go to England, to visit Stratford–on–Avon because they have
enjoyed William Shakespeare's plays. Those tourists clambering up the hills in Greece how many of
them are there because they read the Homeric classics? And Spain, which reaps so much

Movie Analysis of 'Columbus: The Discovery'
Columbus: The Discovery (1992) was a box office failure, mocked and lampooned by the critics as
being an unintended comedy and the producer Alexander Salkind was sued for fraud, racketeering
and breach of contract. Marlin Brando, the film's only real star, also threatened to sue and remove
his name from the project because he objected to the way the Carib Indians were portrayed. Few
people saw the movie at the time and it is deservedly forgotten today. Almost nothing about the
movie or its portrayal of Christopher Columbus is historically accurate, except perhaps for the
appearance of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. It depicts him as being a typical romantic hero and
swashbuckler of the Hollywood type, who was also romantically involved with Queen Isabella,
while the real Columbus was manipulative, deceptive, extremely greedy and ambitious, and a harsh
colonial ruler guilty of slave labor, genocide and other atrocities. His main concern in later years
was collecting the full 10% of the profits that he had been promised, although despite his protests of
poverty he died a wealthy man. Even in small matters, the historical Columbus had a way of
demonstrating his true character, which was quite different from that portrayed in this film or in
popular culture in general. In the movie, Columbus did offer a bounty to the first sailor who sighted
land, but in reality when he returned to Spain he claimed it for himself. Indeed, he wrote an entire
book asserting that he was not

Pros and Cons of Installing Closed-Circuit Television...
Installation of surveillance camera systems as a way to deter crimes or criminal acts has gained
traction in recent years. In some countries, surveillance camera systems – also known as closed
circuit television (CCTV) cameras – have also installed in educational institutions as a security
measure to address fears for the safety of the students (Hope, 2004; Corpuz, 2011). The trend,
however, did not stop. From halls and corridors, some education institutions have started to install
cameras inside the classrooms as a means not just to monitor the teachers, but also to address
classroom misbehavior (Shepherd, 2009). This paper seeks to cover the possible positive and
negative effects of installing CCTV systems inside the classrooms. ... Show more content on

Grant (2004) said educators want video cameras in classrooms to address the issue of violence in
schools. "Often teachers who are attacked have no way of proving their claims because pupils who
witness the incidents fail to back up their stories. Video camera footage could be used to substantiate
teachers' versions of events as well as to deter pupils from launching the attacks (Grant, 2004)." In
the Philippines, the installation of cameras inside the classrooms is seen in a similar light. As cited
in Grafil (2011), University of Santo Tomas security chief Joseph Badinas said the cameras can be
used to "track people who are doing something suspicious." The reason behind the installation of
CCTV systems in the classrooms can be attributed to the triadic reciprocality principle of the social
cognitive theory (Bandura, 1986). Under this principle, human life is consisted of a perpetual series
of interactions among the environment, their individual behavior, and personal cognitive variables
like thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. These three constructs interact and influences each other
reciprocally. Applying the

From the simulation lab to the ward: Preparing 4th year nursing students for the role of staff nurse. Clinical Simulation in Nursing, 8(7), e265–e272. The length of the title of the study is important. According to Connell Meehan (1999), the title should be between 10 and 15 words long and should clearly identify for the reader the purpose of the study (Coughlan, M., Cronin, P., Ryan, F. 2007). Parahoo (2006) said that titles that are too long or too short can be confusing or misleading (Coughlan et. al. 2007). The title of the study "From the simulation lab to the ward: ... Walking towards success is a rough path but with passion everything will be worth it. Passion towards a certain goal will be more effective. Working or doing what a person love with passion will bring joy and fulfillment to a person thus will make a person work even harder. "You have this position but you're not happy. You should be very happy, that's why work and money is like the same." For Mr. Abella, you should be happy with what job position you are in. Happiness with your job consists of passion and rewards you get from it. Not being able to meet one's worth in a job, even if you are passionate about it will only lessen your enthusiasm towards work. People should choose a career they are passionate about for being passionate with what you are doing comes excellence. That is why when love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece. • 9. Relationship Between Religion and Art in Medieval,... In a brightly–lit corner of St Peter's Basilica, sitting behind a clear panel of glass, is Michelangelo's Pietà. A marble–white sculpture of the Mother Mary, her eyes downcast, gazes at her Son who lies dead across her lap. She seems both devastated and deep in thought. She is young and beautiful, in line with the old belief that a perfect soul meant a perfect outward appearance (Smart 122). She is famous and celebrated, and is visited by Christians from every nation. In another part of the world, The Holy Virgin Mary by Chris Ofili resides in the Brooklyn Art Museum. It is a painting of Mary atop a pile of elephant feces, the Virgin herself made with the same substance, while surrounded by cutouts from pornographic magazines. The work ... The Church became less of a holy symbol of God's presence on earth, and more of a machine to help ambitious men up the ladder of political power and influence (Murray Michelangelo 7). The Age of Enlightenment changed the medieval time's thirst for God to a thirst for knowledge and science (Gardner 396). In present times, the influence of the Church continues to decline. "The 21st century is seeing the most intense attacks on belief in God in general and the Roman Catholic Church in particular." (Tiglao A13)This is not at all helped by the countless scandals endured by the Vatican today. Well– known examples include their opposition to stem cell research (zu Eltz et al. 211) and sex abuse cases involving priests. The controversy of sexually abusive priests has proven so outrageous that many have demanded the dismissal of countless Church officials and even Pope Benedict XVI himself ("Pope undeterred by abuse scandal, reform calls" 8). Religion has endured a rocky road over the course of history, and so has art. Indeed it has evolved from the solemn themes of medieval art, to the romantic, whimsical mood of Renaissance art, to the shock value of contemporary art. The Medieval times has its share of famous art styles, two of the most significant being Byzantine and Gothic. The Byzantine era of art was one of the Western world's longest and most unique. • 13. Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother Amy What does it mean to be American? The American identity has always been a complicated discussion. It is by nature identified by diversity. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the person and others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of this American woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity; inherited identity; resisted identity and resolved identity. On October 26th 1962, one of the most known authors was born: Amy Chua. Amy Chua was born in Champaign, Illinois in the Unites States. She was raised as a catholic. Despite her having ancestry whom are Chinese, to be more specific Kokkein dialect, she proudly carries around an American identity. She was born in the year of the Tiger. In their culture, that represents people who are fearless, powerful, noble, and authoritative. "My family comes from southern China's Fujian Province, which is famous for producing scholars and scientists." Her parents migrated from the Philippines to the States before she was born in order to continue their educational studies. Her father, "Leon Ong Chua is an American electrical engineer and computer scientist. He is a professor in the electrical engineering and computer sciences department at the University of California, Berkeley." His nationality is Holko and American. On the other side, the authors mother, Diana Chua was born in China and moved to the Philippines at the age of 2. She converted to Catholicism when she was in high school and received a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Santo Tomas. Amy has three sisters and they are all known to be successful in their own ways. Amy Chua has 2 daughters: Sophia and Louisa. With Chua's Tiger parenting methods, Sophia seems to respect and listen to her mother which is the opposite than Lulu (Louisa). Lulu has more western characteristics. For example, she talks back and doesn't respect her mother's orders. Briefly, these aspects form her native identity. Amy Chua's evolution seemed to involve her inherited identity. Egg waffles in Hong Kong only comes in two flavors, the classic one which tastes more like the usual pancake but lighter in taste and more on the crispiness and chocolate. Which is why we came up with bringing egg waffles to life by offering unique and wide variety of flavors to choose from plus toppings they can add to personalize their waffle. With that in mind, we are to place our business around a campus having students as our priority target market for we believe that students as well as teenagers in general are fond of trying new food especially desserts that satisfy their sweet tooth. • 30. Premarital sex simply means having sex before marriage. It could be a very big issue all around right now especially that we have media everywhere. It is right for people especially the younger ones (teenager) to know that pre–marital sex is something that they should really take importance to especially for women. Because once a woman or a girl committed it and got pregnant, there will be a lot of consequences that they should be ready to face and one day, they'll realize that it was one of the biggest mistakes that they had made in their life. IV. Issues in the Philippine Context 1. Infidelity In the context of Filipino culture, infidelity is not just against our moral but also against our faith. Being a Christian country, we practice a monogamous marriage. • 38. It Was A Revolutionary Product It was not long ago that people were using a "brick–like" device as their mobile phone and the only function of this device was to send and receive calls (Borgobello, 2013). Not only was the device bulky and heavy, but the battery was also subpar – it could only last for approximately 35 minutes' worth of talk–time and it took roughly 10 hours to charge the device. This device was extremely expensive at that time – costing $3,995 (Hakkarainen, 2010). Despite such drawbacks, the product was a success. There was a huge demand for it – especially towards the businessmen and to those who could afford it (Wolphin, 2014). This was mainly due to it being the first of its kind – it was a revolutionary product. It was the first cordless and "truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mobile phones in the past, presently termed as "basic phones" or "feature phones", are those phones which only feature the basic functions which are expected of a phone such as calling and texting (Lee, 2010). Now, people own "smartphones". Oxford Dictionary defined smartphone as "a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps." Indeed, it has become common for people to own a smartphone. Smura et al. (2009) stated that, "mobile phones have become an inseparable part of everyday life and a majority of people carry them all the time" and such is true especially towards the millennials. There are some people, on the other hand, believe that a mobile phone need only to function as a communication device and other features such as a High Definition (HD) display are unnecessary and would only lead to additional costs. Walsh and White (2006), however, stated that, "smartphones are no longer perceived as luxury but a necessity in people's daily life." Walsh and White's statement is tenable. One of the basic characteristic of people is their ability to adapt (Massey, 2013). People may have gotten used to the extra features that smartphones possess and had integrated these to their daily lives and later on came to expect that other phones would also have ... Varying Temperature Lab Report The Effect of Varying Temperature and pH on enzymatic activity of α–amylase Introduction An enzyme is a biological molecule which acts as a catalyst for chemical reactions without being altered in the process. Enzymes have a defined three–dimensional globular structure composed of approximately 100–500 amino acids. The first enzyme to be discovered was diastase which catalyses the breakdown of starch into maltose by the French chemist Anselme Payen in 1833. An enzyme substrate is the material which interacts with an enzyme. An enzymatic reaction occurs if there is a substrate present and if the active site of the enzyme is empty, generally an enzyme will only react and bind to a specific substrate or group of substrates. Enzymes are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If an enzymes active site is altered it cannot function and is therefore denatured. The objective of this experiment is to analyse the effectiveness of alpha–amylase reacting with 1% Starch and NaCl under varying temperatures and pH. The effectiveness of the alpha–amylase is measured by recording the amount of starch present during varying stages of the reaction. Method The experiment was carried out in two parts, reaction rate verses temperature and reaction rate verses pH. For reaction rate verses temperature five test tubes were labelled with temperatures, E 0°C, E RT, E 37°C, E 60°C and E 100°C for the enzyme alpha–amylase. Another five test tubes were also labelled with the temperatures S 0ºC, S RT, S 37ºC, S 60ºC and S 100ºC for the substrate 1% Starch and NaCl. A pipette was used to move 2ml of the substrate into each of the corresponding five test tubes and 2ml of buffer solution, pH 6.8, was added into the five substrate test tubes (S 0ºC, S RT, S 37ºC, S 60ºC and S 100ºC). The same amount of enzyme was transferred into its corresponding test tubes (E 0°C, E RT, E 37°C, E 60°C and E 100°C). The corresponding enzyme and substrate test tubes were equilibrated to their corresponding temperatures. Both the test tubes E 0°c and S 0°c were cooled down to 0°c using a beaker of ice and a thermometer. The room temperature test tubes were already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twitter provides free APIs from which a sampled view can be easily obtained. It helps build a map spread model. In line with this, the researchers came up with an idea of working on a research using these Twitter data, focusing on the so–called "tweets" regarding diseases and health, specifically, the flu or influenza. Furthermore, previous studies were made regarding this topic. In 2008, there was a website called "Google Flu Trends" that took data from Google, Facebook, and Twitter itself [2]. It was widely used in its release, but it was proven to have inconsistencies with regards to its data [2]. Back in 2011–2013, Google Flu Trends overestimated the number of people who had flu by 50% [3]. One possible cause was its inclusion of data which contained the word "flu" or "influenza", wherein the person who "tweeted" or posted about it did not have the flu at all [3]. There was also a study that made a precision of 0.78 or 78% using the Naïve Bayes Classification algorithm to identify tweets that mention flu or flu–like symptoms [4]. As mentioned earlier, previous researchers had difficulty classifying these tweets as some data gathered got accepted even though the person did not have it. His experiences and sufferings corrupted him and turned him into a cynical self–important person he is at the start of the movie. In his journey to find the diamonds, he eventually redeems himself. He views the cycle of the blood diamonds as a never–ending cycle fuelled by the shady characters behind the government, the diamond business, and the very people who unknowingly purchase these diamonds. Much of what I discovered in watching this film has helped me see things in a different light. Not just diamonds but every other product imaginable could've commenced the same chaos the diamonds caused in Africa. This commotion may not only happen in Africa but also in any other country. Soon after arriving, The Colonial Medical Service was established to provide basic medical care to the convicts and others in the area. A temporary hospital, The Sydney Infirmary was created in Sydney Cove. The general nursing duties were undertaken by untrained convicts to assist the medical staff. The male assistants looked after the male patients and the female assistants looked after the female patients. Many of the patients were being housed in tents on the hospital grounds. • 88. Compare And Contrast Nude Vs Nude Nakedness and Nudity are often used interchangeably. In Nude versus Naked, John Berger separates them and finds distinguishable differences between them both. He had said that to be naked is to be natural without clothes and pure in oneself and seen as such, while nude is to be naked but not to be seen as one's self. All that is nude consequently, is considered naked but not all that is naked can be nude. Nakedness is the natural form of undress to be seen as is; while Nudity brings about implications and accordingly suggests numerous underlying factors that add on to the view of the spectators on the art presented to them. As we understand the view of art and in determining how one is Nude and the other–Naked, It is of necessity to understand a bit of background on art, how it is regarded and seen, and its exhibition in the Philippines Art in the Philippines is often seen as a privilege to only those who are wealthy enough. During the pre–Hispanic time pottery, tattoos, textiles, ornaments, etc. were the art works considered by most as art forms but were actually objects of utility and convenience. The creation of these objects was a way of life rather than just something made for the pleasure of viewing or admiring. With the arrival and influence of Spanish culture, the need for a venue wherein artworks may be exhibited was finally introduced. It was the era in Philippine history, when the production of proto–art galleries had begun. • 92. Analysis on Digital Media Participation: How Fans Interact... Digital Media Participation: How Fans Interact Online is a short documentary about how fans show their support to their celebrity idols with the emergence of social media. Our group chose this topic because we notice how fans show their support by going to mall shows or by using certain hashtags on Twitter and make them trend worldwide. This documentary film aims to change the perspective people have on fans that they are cheap, desperate, and low class. With this interactivity and digitalization come a new form of community that sprouted from the computer–mediated communication (CMC) (McQuail 150–51), the virtual community. According to McQuail, this virtual community "can be formed by any number of individuals by way of the Internet at their own choice" (150) and "usually based on some common interest" (150). Fan clubs before are known to be supporters who would go to shows, guestings, and tapings of their idols but now fan clubs could also sprout online. Fans have used new media to interact with co–fans who have obviously have the same interests (their idol or idols). By then, a public sphere would emerge in the new media. What is interesting in the documentary is that some of the fans we interviewed are not really good at interacting personally but are able to make friends online because of the people who understand them and of what they call now as "feels" (a superlative form of having so much feelings towards someone or something). Faculty of Engineering University of Santo Tomas Manila, Philippines ABSTRACT This experiment involved three steps: synthesis of aspirin, isolation and purification, and the estimation of purity of the final product. The synthesis involved the reaction of salicylic acid and acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst, phosphoric acid, H3PO4. When the aspirin was prepared, it was isolated and filtered. The percentage yield of the synthesis was calculated to be 78.42%. The experimental melting point range of aspirin was determined to be 122 –132°C. Salicylic acid is also used in a variety of other personal care items such as dandruff shampoo, antiseptic and toothpaste. [2] METHODOLOGY 3.0g of salicylic acid was weighed then 3.0mL of acetic anhydride and 6 drops of 85% H3PO4 were added to it. The mixture was warmed over a water bath for 5 minutes while stirring. After warming, 20 drops of distilled water was slowly added. 15mL of water was added then the solution was heated until it became clear. It was allowed to cool and was placed in an ice bath until the solution becomes cloudy. Using pre–weighed filter paper, the mixture was filtered and was allowed to dry in the filter paper. In determining the melting point range of the aspirin, a capillary tube (sealed at one end) was one– third–filled with the dried aspirin. The capillary tube and a thermometer were immersed in an oil bath. The temperature at which the solid started to melt and the temperature when the entire sample was completely liquefied were recorded as the melting point temperature range. The Arch of the Centuries has been with the University of Santo Tomas since the university was constructed in 1611. Despite being remodeled, one side of the Arch stays original. The original Arch, which faces the UST Main Building, was said to be the main doorway to the university building before the structure was destroyed during World War II. Many Thomasian students consider the Arch of the Centuries as a motivation, because of its tradition and ability to stand through time. After the colonization of the Philippines the Filipinos could come and work in the United States because they had passports that allowed them. The Filipinos then work in agriculture, fishery and service industry, however when they are in the mainland and technically they were not aliens because the Philippines is U.S. territory, the Filipinos weren't exempted to racism. In the 1930 signs that says "Positively no Filipinos allowed" can be seen in stores. In the United States. The signs show an example of how Filipinos were racially discriminated against. Filipinos were racially discriminated against because they're not white and pro–imperialist animators created cartoons that depict Filipinos and created stereotypes against them. These stereotypes were created and shown to the people to justify the means of the United States in colonizing other countries. The two main Filipino stereotypes are they are uneducated and uncivilized. In the media or newspaper cartoons, Filipinos are shown sitting in a classroom being taught by Uncle Sam. The Filipinos in the United States were seen as uneducated people because of how the media portrayed them. Much of this is due to our own myopia, of our leaders who do not understand or realize the myriad possibilities here if we only know how to use them! Jimenez should produce long–range programs. Movie Analysis of 'Columbus: The Discovery' Columbus: The Discovery (1992) was a box office failure, mocked and lampooned by the critics as being an unintended comedy and the producer Alexander Salkind was sued for fraud, racketeering and breach of contract. Marlin Brando, the film's only real star, also threatened to sue and remove his name from the project because he objected to the way the Carib Indians were portrayed. Few people saw the movie at the time and it is deservedly forgotten today. Almost nothing about the movie or its portrayal of Christopher Columbus is historically accurate, except perhaps for the appearance of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. It depicts him as being a typical romantic hero and swashbuckler of the Hollywood type, who was also romantically involved with Queen Isabella, while the real Columbus was manipulative, deceptive, extremely greedy and ambitious, and a harsh colonial ruler guilty of slave labor, genocide and other atrocities. His main concern in later years was collecting the full 10% of the profits that he had been promised, although despite his protests of poverty he died a wealthy man. Even in small matters, the historical Columbus had a way of demonstrating his true character, which was quite different from that portrayed in this film or in popular culture in general. In some countries, surveillance camera systems – also known as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras – have also installed in educational institutions as a security measure to address fears for the safety of the students (Hope, 2004; Corpuz, 2011). The trend, however, did not stop. From halls and corridors, some education institutions have started to install cameras inside the classrooms as a means not just to monitor the teachers, but also to address classroom misbehavior (Shepherd, 2009). This paper seeks to cover the possible positive and negative effects of installing CCTV systems inside the classrooms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grant (2004) said educators want video cameras in classrooms to address the issue of violence in schools. "Often teachers who are attacked have no way of proving their claims because pupils who witness the incidents fail to back up their stories. Video camera footage could be used to substantiate teachers' versions of events as well as to deter pupils from launching the attacks (Grant, 2004)." In the Philippines, the installation of cameras inside the classrooms is seen in a similar light. As cited in Grafil (2011), University of Santo Tomas security chief Joseph Badinas said the cameras can be used to "track people who are doing something suspicious." The reason behind the installation of CCTV systems in the classrooms can be attributed to the triadic reciprocality principle of the social cognitive theory (Bandura, 1986). Under this principle, human life is consisted of a perpetual series of interactions among the environment, their individual behavior, and personal cognitive variables like thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions.
