An editing update for my music video.

1. Editing Update 1
Thisweek,Ibeganto editmymusicvideo asI have enoughfootage to start the editing, althoughI
have not finishedthe filmingyet. Iimportedall the footage thatI have ontothe software thatI am
using,whichisMovie Studio Platinum;andIhave put the otherscenesinorderof how I want them
to be shown. I have done twodays of editingthisweekandonthe secondday,I importedthe song
intothe videosothat I can lookat the visualsandlinkthemtothe lyrics.
Day 1:
I put the scenesinorderafterI importedthem. I consulted mystoryboardtowhat orderthe shots
shouldbe in and alsoaddedadditional scenes when Ifoundinspiration atthe locations.

2. I lookedattryingto make a time-lapse of people walkingby. Above isascreenshotof the scene
before Ieditedthe video.
Thisis the time-lapseaftermakingthe videoshorterby usingthe keysonthe keyboard,whichis
control and draggingthe picture withthe mouse sothat zigzaglinesappearonthe screenand
makingthe videoshorteronthe screen. Thisis the correct speedthatI wantthe people towalkat
whenthe videoisplaying,soIwill renderthisandimportitintomymusicvideo.
I thenstartedon the videothatI will putona discto be shownon the televisionscreen. Thisisa
videoof a personcallingthe maincharacterintothe televisionscreen. Iimportedall the videosI
wantedintothe software andaddeda videoeffectcalled‘TV Simulator’(Effectthatisselectedin
blue at the top) ontosome of myfootage.

3. Afteraddingthe effectontothatparticularscene,amessage box appearsstatingthe featuresof that
effectsuchas howmuch staticthere shouldbe andthe vertical andhorizontal syncof the static and
howyou can change these effectstomake the actionthat youwant.
Thisis whathappenswhenyouchange those featuresonthe ‘TV Simulator’ tomake the scene look
like aTV style film. Whenthe videoisplaying,itwouldlooklike the TV hasgone static.

4. For the rest of the video,Ieditedthe scenes asIrecordedthe videoasone longtake soI had to split
the videointosections(suchasthe image above) sothatit iseasierto edit andput the scene
together.
For the endof the videowhenitgoesbackto the TV screen,Iwanteda longtake of TV staticso I
useda woodscene withnopeople andusedthe same featuresasthe previousscenesof the ‘TV
Simulator’sothatthe final scene isof the screengoingstaticand the camera zoomsinon the TV.

5. Thisis the finished videotobe putonthe discwithoutthe soundof the knockinginplace.
Photoshop
I wantedtomake a scene where apeace symbol andthe word‘Peace’written underneath magically
appear. This isthe image I wantto manipulate butI can onlychange thison PhotoshopasMovie
StudioPlatinumdoesn’thave the featuresavailable tochange this.

6. I usedan image fromthe internetforthe peace symbol andhighlighted the symboltobe copied so
that I can place it ontothe tree trunk.
I resizedthe image aswhenIpastedthe image ontothe trunk, itwas reallysmall andIwantedthe
image biggersothat the audience cansee it.

7. I duplicatedthe layersothatwhenI movedthe copiedlayerabove the symbol inthe righthandbox,
the symbol will disappear. Ihighlightedthe symbolsothatit can be seenthroughthe trunk.
I clickedonCurvesinthe adjustmentssectionsothatthe symbol canappeardarker onthe screen.

8. I thenaddedeffectstothe symbol tomake it lookrealisticasif ithas beencarvedintothe wood. I
usedembosstoadd depthtothe image and usedinnerandouterglow to make the outlinesof the
image sharper.
Thisis the image afteraddingmore effectsonthe symbol,whichisbringingoutmore of the symbol,
makingitlookmore realisticcomparedtomy testshotthat was notauthenticand was too dark.

9. Thisis the final image of whatthe symbol wouldlooklike.
I usedthe same effectstocreate the writingbelow,however asthe writingissmallerthanthe image
I had to customise the scale of writingincomparisontothe symbol.

10. EditingDay 2
On the secondday,I importedthe photoshoppedwork thatIdidthe daybefore intothe video.
I startedon the second time-lapse thatIwill putat the endof mymusicvideoof a lake where Iwant
the cloudsto go by quickly. Istartedbyremovingthe soundfromthe videobyrightclickingthe
soundon the videoandselecting‘Group’and‘RemoveFrom’. Thisseparatesthe twoelementsso
that whenyourightclickon the soundand select‘Delete’, the soundwoulddisappear.

11. The videowhenthe soundisremoved.
WhenI shortenedthe video,like inthe people walking time-lapse,itwasstill goingtooslowlyasyou
can onlyshortenthe shotto a certainpoint,soI renderedthe videoforaninternetvideoand
importedthe videointoanotherwindow andshorteneditagain. Ididthisthree timesuntil Igot the
videoshortenoughandwithbetterqualitytowhatI wasexpecting.

12. In additiontodoingthe time-lapse,Iaddedthe songof my musicvideo,whichis ‘Imagine’byEmeli
Sandé,sothat I can now match the visualstothe lyricsof the song.
