Evaluation q6
1. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
2. Shallow depth of field
Firstly, I have learnt that using the pull focus technique for shallow depth of field
can be affected by how far the camera is away from an object or a person. I know
this because when we were filming our opening sequence we had to adjust the
camera many times making us retake a lot due to the effect being barely visible.
As you can see in our final piece the shallow depth of field is really noticeable and
easily recognized.
3. Pan Shot
Doing a pan shot was another difficulty that my group and I came across. In the
basement there it was tight and there was barely enough room to do it. As well as
this the pan shot was very jumpy and wasn't smooth across the screen in our test
shoots. We resolved the problem by using two of use to do the panning. One
person would start the movement and then pass it on to the second person who
would finish of the final movement. Below is the link of the final piece showing how
we fixed the panning shot.

4. Tracking Shot
In the final piece we tried to film a tracking shot of our protagonists shoes. This
wasn't very efficient because it was shaky and wobbly and looked very amateurish
when we looked at it on camera. So instead we used a tracking shot of just his
shoulders and head. This looked much better as it was smoother and looked more
professional. From this we learnt that tracking shots near the floor are much more
difficult than ones off the floor. We tried to overcome the problem by using a
skateboard. This helped slightly but it still wasn't as good as our other tracking
shot of Stephens shoulders.
5. Music and Sound effects
In our real thing we used many different sound effects to build suspense and add
tension. We used Final Cut Pro to put sound together with our clips. We added
whistling audio and drone noises to make the clip more intense. We also added a
really loud scary sound at the end to our jump scare to add extra effect. This
wasn't too difficult because most of the sounds we used were from the actual app
itself. The only sound effect we got online was the whistling noises.
6. Snapchat
My group and I created a snapchat group chat so that we could communicate
easier. This chat allowed us to organize for example, what time we should met
and film. It also allowed us to help each other with things we didn't understand for
example questions we had to answer on our blog. The app also allowed us to
send photos to each other. Looking at real images really helped to understand
what to do. This helped our overall organization of everything and made us much
more efficient as a group.
7. Google Maps
My group and I also used google maps to help find our location. When we decided
where we were going to film which was at my house, i sent the address on our
snapchat group chat so that Luke and Lucas could look it up. Google maps
showed the exact location of my house and also showed things like road names
and rivers near by to help find my house easier.
8. Colour Correction
In some clips the lighting is much different than in other clips. Therefore we had to
edit this to make the colours look the same. In the end my group and I
successfully did this and now both scenes look the same colour. As well as this
the light did not switch on in one of the scenes therefore we had to edit the lighting
to look as if the scene got lighter when it really didn't.
