Technological Advances
Throughout history there have been great advances in
technology, but as of recent are the advances that are geared
towards health. There are now many different types of
technology to help track wellness for you. Some examples may
be watches or apps to use to keep you on track. I will discuss
how the different lenses relate to this topic and connect them to
wellness.
When we look through a historical lens at technology
related to wellness, we have made leaps and bounds in this area.
Before you had to go to the doctor to find out what was wrong
with you or to track your wellness, not anymore! With recent
innovations such as apps to track dietary needs and watches to
track movement or heartrate it is easier than ever to stay on top
of our health. Let’s look at when you used to go to the doctor
and have a nurse manually check your blood pressure. Now
they have a machine that can do three different tasks at one
time, it can check your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen
levels in your blood. The technological advances allow doctors
or nurses to provide better and more efficient care to their
patients. In history you had to go to the doctor, or the doctor
used to come to you. Now there is apps or hospitals that are
doing virtual visits for routine illness to help lessen the spread
of illness. Historical we have come a long way in developing
technology to help with maintaining wellness.
Humanities is affected using technology for wellness
purposes as well. People are connected more and more using
technology as well. Through the use of shared health or
tracking apps people can connect and challenge one another in
their wellness journeys. Also, these apps or tracking systems
can also provide information to how people are livi ng their day
to day lives. Doctors or healthcare providers can use things
such as Bluetooth to track their patients and how they are doing.
Modern CPAP machines have the ability to track and tell you
and your doctor about your sleep on a daily basis and provide
real time results to make any adjustments that may be needed.
Humanities is the study of relationships and can play a huge
role in our lives, technology only boosts this by helping people
to hold others accountable.
When you look at the natural and applied sciences lens in
conjunction with technological advances you have to look at
how we can affect the environment. Technology allows us to
know what is going to happen with the weather and the
environment well in advance. Years ago, weather observations
were made the eye or ear and plotted on a map, not technology
allows us to predict what will happen well before it does.
Having this allows us to be able to prepare and have advanced
notification for serious incidents and be able to react sooner.
Take a tornado as an example, very dangerous and deadly if not
warned early. With advances in technology meteorologist are
able to look at a storm system and predict if sever weather will
cause or has the probability to cause a tornado or severe
weather. Technology plays a role in natural and applied
sciences and have allowed us to make strides in bettering our
world.
Technology has an obvious impact on social sciences on a
daily basis. It can either be positive or negative and it really
depends on the person that is viewing it through the lens. When
we look at social sciences it is the effect on people and
technology can definitely affect this. There are many different
ways it can do this. Take surveillance by with technology,
some may say it is an invasion of privacy while other says it is
necessary. I would agree with both sides, technology has made
things possible today that were not possible 50 years ago.
Technology also allows us to study things in the social realm a
lot easier than we could in the past. We can access databases of
information at the stoke of a key or mouse click. These
advances have allowed us to make break throughs in
development and innovation. As we continue to go forward
technology will have its positive and negative impacts on social
sciences.

IDS 402 Milestone Four Guidelines and Rubric
Analyzing an Issue or Event in Wellness Through the Lenses of
the Natural and Applied Sciences and Social Sciences
Overview: For the first part of your final project, the critical
analysis portfolio, you will select an issue or event in wellness
and critically analyze it through the
four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and
applied sciences, and social sciences. By viewing the issue or
event through these lenses, you will
gain insight into how the interconnected nature of wellness
affects society as well as both your own individual framework
of perception and the choices,
attitudes, and behaviors of others in the world around you.
For this fourth milestone, due in Module Six, you will analyze
your issue/event in wellness through the lenses of the natural
and applied sciences and the social
sciences. Like Milestone Two, this task provides you with an
opportunity to dive deeper into your analysis of the issue/event
through these two lenses. This will
provide you with a chance to practice analyzing your
issue/event through these lenses and receive feedback on this
practice attempt.
Prompt: First, review your work in Modules Five and Six, as
well as the IDS Four General Education Lenses document in the
Reading and Resources section of
Module One.
Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the natural
and applied sciences by exploring the following questions:
through the natural and applied sciences?
issue/event?
Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the social
sciences, and address the following:
lens and impact social issues?
e a
deeper understanding of the social issue(s) that inform your
issue/event?
Note: You are completing two separate analyses: one from the
natural and applied sciences and one from the social sciences.
You must submit two papers in a
single Word document.
Be sure to use evidence from research to support your analysis.
Refer to course resources, the IDS 402 Research LibGuide
(linked in the Start Here section of your
course), and any other pertinent resources to support your
responses. Relevant current news sources may be used with
instructor approval. Incorporate
instructor feedback into Final Project Part One.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Lens Analysis: In this section of your assignment, you will
analyze your issue/event through two of the four general
education lenses.
A. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of the natural and
applied sciences for determining its impact on various
institutions. Utilize evidence
from research to support your analysis.
B. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of the social
sciences for determining its impact on various institutions.
Utilize evidence from research
to support your analysis.
Rubric
Guidelines for Submission: Milestone Four should be submitted
as two papers in a single Word document. The entire submission
should be 2 to 4
pages in length. Use double-spacing, 12-point Times New
Roman font, and one-inch margins. Support your responses with
at least two sources for each lens from
the assigned course resources, or other scholarly sources located
independently via the Shapiro Library. Cite your supporting
sources in APA style.
Please note that the grading rubric for this milestone submission
is not identical to that of the final project. The Final Project
Part One Rubric will include an
additional “Exemplary” category that provides guidance as to
how you can go above and beyond “Proficient” in your final
submission, as well as additional
elements to address.
Critical Elements Proficient (100%) Needs Improvement (75%)
Not Evident (0%) Value

  • 1. Technological Advances Throughout history there have been great advances in technology, but as of recent are the advances that are geared towards health. There are now many different types of technology to help track wellness for you. Some examples may be watches or apps to use to keep you on track. I will discuss how the different lenses relate to this topic and connect them to wellness. When we look through a historical lens at technology related to wellness, we have made leaps and bounds in this area. Before you had to go to the doctor to find out what was wrong with you or to track your wellness, not anymore! With recent innovations such as apps to track dietary needs and watches to track movement or heartrate it is easier than ever to stay on top of our health. Let’s look at when you used to go to the doctor and have a nurse manually check your blood pressure. Now they have a machine that can do three different tasks at one time, it can check your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels in your blood. The technological advances allow doctors or nurses to provide better and more efficient care to their patients. In history you had to go to the doctor, or the doctor used to come to you. Now there is apps or hospitals that are doing virtual visits for routine illness to help lessen the spread of illness. Historical we have come a long way in developing technology to help with maintaining wellness. Humanities is affected using technology for wellness purposes as well. People are connected more and more using technology as well. Through the use of shared health or tracking apps people can connect and challenge one another in their wellness journeys. Also, these apps or tracking systems can also provide information to how people are livi ng their day to day lives. Doctors or healthcare providers can use things such as Bluetooth to track their patients and how they are doing.
  • 2. Modern CPAP machines have the ability to track and tell you and your doctor about your sleep on a daily basis and provide real time results to make any adjustments that may be needed. Humanities is the study of relationships and can play a huge role in our lives, technology only boosts this by helping people to hold others accountable. When you look at the natural and applied sciences lens in conjunction with technological advances you have to look at how we can affect the environment. Technology allows us to know what is going to happen with the weather and the environment well in advance. Years ago, weather observations were made the eye or ear and plotted on a map, not technology allows us to predict what will happen well before it does. Having this allows us to be able to prepare and have advanced notification for serious incidents and be able to react sooner. Take a tornado as an example, very dangerous and deadly if not warned early. With advances in technology meteorologist are able to look at a storm system and predict if sever weather will cause or has the probability to cause a tornado or severe weather. Technology plays a role in natural and applied sciences and have allowed us to make strides in bettering our world. Technology has an obvious impact on social sciences on a daily basis. It can either be positive or negative and it really depends on the person that is viewing it through the lens. When we look at social sciences it is the effect on people and technology can definitely affect this. There are many different ways it can do this. Take surveillance by with technology, some may say it is an invasion of privacy while other says it is necessary. I would agree with both sides, technology has made things possible today that were not possible 50 years ago. Technology also allows us to study things in the social realm a lot easier than we could in the past. We can access databases of information at the stoke of a key or mouse click. These advances have allowed us to make break throughs in development and innovation. As we continue to go forward

By viewing the issue or event through these lenses, you will gain insight into how the interconnected nature of wellness affects society as well as both your own individual framework of perception and the choices, attitudes, and behaviors of others in the world around you.
  • 4. For this fourth milestone, due in Module Six, you will analyze your issue/event in wellness through the lenses of the natural and applied sciences and the social sciences. Like Milestone Two, this task provides you with an opportunity to dive deeper into your analysis of the issue/event through these two lenses. This will provide you with a chance to practice analyzing your issue/event through these lenses and receive feedback on this practice attempt. Prompt: First, review your work in Modules Five and Six, as well as the IDS Four General Education Lenses document in the Reading and Resources section of Module One. Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the natural and applied sciences by exploring the following questions: through the natural and applied sciences? issue/event? Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the social sciences, and address the following: lens and impact social issues? e a deeper understanding of the social issue(s) that inform your issue/event?
  • 5. Note: You are completing two separate analyses: one from the natural and applied sciences and one from the social sciences. You must submit two papers in a single Word document. Be sure to use evidence from research to support your analysis. Refer to course resources, the IDS 402 Research LibGuide (linked in the Start Here section of your course), and any other pertinent resources to support your responses. Relevant current news sources may be used with instructor approval. Incorporate instructor feedback into Final Project Part One. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Lens Analysis: In this section of your assignment, you will analyze your issue/event through two of the four general education lenses. A. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of the natural and applied sciences for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence from research to support your analysis. B. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of the social sciences for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence from research to support your analysis.
  • 6. Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Milestone Four should be submitted as two papers in a single Word document. The entire submission should be 2 to 4 pages in length. Use double-spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Support your responses with at least two sources for each lens from the assigned course resources, or other scholarly sources located independently via the Shapiro Library. Cite your supporting sources in APA style. Please note that the grading rubric for this milestone submission is not identical to that of the final project. The Final Project Part One Rubric will include an additional “Exemplary” category that provides guidance as to how you can go above and beyond “Proficient” in your final submission, as well as additional elements to address. Critical Elements Proficient (100%) Needs Improvement (75%) Not Evident (0%) Value Lens Analysis: Natural and Applied Sciences Analyzes issue/event through the lens of the natural and applied sciences for determining its impact on various institutions, using evidence from research to support analysis Analyzes issue/event through the lens of the natural and applied sciences, but analysis is cursory or illogical, or supporting evidence is inappropriate or
