2. As you can see, the majority of our respondents were female, but we did manage to get a diverse response of both
male and female. Our target audience for our music video is mainly female but we are targeting to males as well so this
survey reinforces this idea. Over 80% of our respondents were also 16-21 which is good because this is representative
of our target audience. We did also get around 5 people who were not in this bracket out of 40 who do show to still
enjoy music videos and Ed Sheeran’s music, which is what I predicted.
3. Over 70% of our respondents do enjoy watching music
videos. That is who we expect to watch our music video,
however we are still targeting our video to generally
everyone so we will not be excluding these people from the
rest of the questionnaire. Our main target audience,
however, is 16-25 years olds, therefore there is a small
margin of people in our target audience that do not enjoy
watching them. This will only make us produce the video to
suit all people in this age range by implementing things such
as a narrative that most people do like about music videos.
Almost 50% of all our 47 respondents say the artist they
watch the most is a male solo. We predicted this as a male
solo is a very general term and can be targeted to anyone
whether they are male, female, a child or adult, ranging
from different music genres. Again, the next most popular
was a male band, as they also can be so universal and target
to everyone. Luckily, our song is by a male solo and is the
most popular, therefore hopefully most people will enjoy
the song behind our music video.
4. Over 70% said their favourite pop-folk artist is Ed
Sheeran, which is the artist we are using for our
production. This is good because this will draw more
people to watch our video if they like the artist and the
song. Another artist that people mentioned they liked to
watch is Sam Smith. This is good because I think they are
not so dissimilar and will most likely enjoy the song.
As we predicted, the majority of respondents do like a
storyline within a music video. This means that hopefully
more people will be attracted to our music video. The main
reasons people like a narrative is that it gives them a
reason to watch and keep watching; it also makes them
connect with the song and makes it more interesting. This
question has backed up our reasons why we wanted to
create a video with a storyline, and we now believe people
will enjoy it a lot more.
5. In this question we did make it more specific to our
production and song by making the respondent know we are
using a male solo artist. Most people did like a numerous set
of sets and locations which is what we will be doing, judging
the feedback we will most likely use real locations rather than
sets we created in a studio. A lot of answers included the city
and set locations of the live performance, which is what we
will like to include in our video.
It was completely 50:50 on this question on whether people
prefer to see cut away shots of an artist singing and playing
an instrument against a dance including the artist. Because
of our narrative we may include cut away shots of another
person who will be the artist singing. However, our main
focus was creating a story from the song and presenting it
through a single character.
6. When asked what else the respondents like to see in a
music video, answers included: good visuals and camera
shots, good narrative, drama, love story and many
more. This has allowed us to get a good insight into
what we can do to meet our target audiences needs by
adding some of these features in. Luckily, we will have a
narrative and something audiences can relate to which
is what they want.
Colours we are going to include are most likely going to
be black, white and grey and other neutral colours.
After our questionnaire, we know that this is something
that the audience does want to see and will be what
they expect it to be. Around 8 people said either blue or
red would be good colours to include. We could
incorporate this by adding a blue undertone during the
editing process to reflect the male song but also the sad
and upsetting feel of the music video.
