Evaluation question 2
1. Q2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
My magazine represents Rock ‘n’ Roll and Punk Rock.
The fan base of this type of music will automatically
know this is their genre of magazine as the main model is
holding a guitar and glass is broken and falling. This along
with the list of artists and bands down the left side of the
page gives the magazine a rock feel and appeals to
certain groups and individuals. This also shows that this
isn’t a lifestyle or any random type of magazine, it shows
it is a true music magazine dedicated to Rock’n’Roll. I got
a lot of inspiration and ideas for my magazine cover from
magazines like “*Classic Rock*” and “Kerrang”. Though
getting a lot of inspiration from these magazines, I kept
my magazine different and unique while still adopting
techniques and ideas from others. My magazine appeals
to both males and females of the rock fan base and isn’t
gender or race biased.
2. ‘Jack Gould’, the main artist on my cover is
portrayed as a heterosexual male. The most
eye catching thing is that he is staring right at
the camera showing no emotion. This shows he
is serious and is also typical behaviour of this
fan base. The positioning of Jack, standing
straight at the camera and holding a guitar
shows he is a true Rock’n’Roller. His clothes are
also very representative of someone who
listens to rock, and is also similar to what
people of the fan base would wear. The glass in
the background represents how serious Jack
can be and gives across the message he will
break anything in his way. I specifically clothes
Jack in a white top and then a black jacket, this
gives the impression he is nice on the inside
(white) but can express his true rock nature
(black).
3. The images are featured on my
contents page. In this photo of Jack he
is looking away from the camera and
not showing any emotion. He has a
change a clothes here and is wearing a
white shirt. Though he is showing no
emotion this is showing the nicer side
of the ‘Rock’n’Roll heavy’ Jack Gould
The other feature on my contents
page is Harry Mock. Harry is
positioned facing away but
turned and looking directly at the
camera. Harry is dressed in a
leather jacket, this shows he is
more of a heavy rock artist in
comparison to Jack as
stereotypically the heavier the
rock, the more leather is worn.
He also has his hands is his
pocket and is stood relaxed,
showing he is comfortable in his
career and is a big name in the
Rock Industry.
4. My article image is again Jack who is the
main artist of the magazine issue. In this
article image, Jack’s positioning has
changed changed as he is slightly side on
with the camera, shoulders tense with his
hands together. He is maintaining eye
contact with the camera, these features
give a cold aura to the audience, some of
which like the aura given. Jack is also in
different clothing, portraying him as if he’s
a different person as it is not clothing you
would relate to the Rock genre. I also put
the quote on top of the image as it adds
to the effect of Jack’s hands being
together as if he is actually waiting for an
answer. This also signifies hope for the
future.
