1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in the construction
and research, planning and evaluation stages?
2. Technologies used throughout my
coursework:
Canon EOS 500d Digital SLR camera – used in my production
SD Cards - used in my production
Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 – used in my production
Adobe SpeedGrade CC 2015 – used in my production
Emaze – used in my evaluation
Prezi – used in my pre production and evaluation
Photoshop - used in my production
3. To film my music video, I used a Canon EOS 500d Digital SLR camera. I decided to use this camera
because it has the ability to shoot in full HD (1080p) which means good quality footage.
Also, it has a high ISO (up to 12800) which was really beneficial for the first party scene as the
lighting was fairly low key in order to comply with party conventions.
I have been using this camera for over a year now and I’ve become more accustomed to how to
properly use it in order to produce quality footage. I have learnt about how to set the camera to the
correct aperture and shutter speed which has been really beneficial to my film making. Because of
this, in my music video, I was able to use the camera in a way that captured the fast paced nature of
scenes such as the first party scene whilst keeping focus.

4. SD Cards
During my AS production I used a 2GB SD card to film on with only a level 2 mb/s rating. I
started to film my music video with this SD card but the mb/s proved to be too slow for the party
scenes and I encountered many problems during recording where the footage speed and the
amount of footage being recorded was too much for the card.
Therefore, I decided to change to a 64GB SD card with an 80 mb/s rating. This was considerably
faster than the other card and had much more storage which made filming much easier.
5. Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015
When I used Premiere Pro CS5 to edit both my prelim and my main films in my AS coursework, it
was perfect for me as a beginner because it’s a reasonably straightforward programme. Although
my prelim consisted of simple transitions and audio, I became much more confident with using
the programme in my final AS film opening. However, for my A2 coursework I decided to
advance my editing skills and explore more of the tools available within the programme
6. Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 Continued….
One of the most significant changes between my AS and A2 films is the editing skill. When
producing my music video, I decided that I wanted to create an effect where the artist was black
and white whilst the rest of the scene was in colour.
In order to do this, I had to use the mask the footage frame by frame using the fountain pen tool
to draw around the artist’s body. I then changed the artist to black and white, keeping the
background colour.
7. Adobe SpeedGrade CC 2015
In my AS coursework, I was very new to editing and so none of my products had any colour
grading. After filming my music video, I decided that the coloured footage needed to be colour
graded in order to make it look more professional and similar to a real product of this genre.
I decided to use Adobe SpeedGrade CC 2015 because it meant that I could transfer footage
straight from Premiere Pro to be colour graded which created a very fluid process.

9. Emaze
Another technology which was new to me this year was Emaze. I used this for my evaluation
question 2 as a method of presentation. As part of my question 2 response, I conducted a survey
and made pie charts of the results. Emaze provided easy to use tools that allowed me to present
these pie charts in an interesting way, animating their entrance and providing an interesting
platform for presentation.
10. Prezi
I used Prezi to answer question 3 of my evaluation. It allowed me to present my answer to the
question in a much more interactive way than, for example, a simple essay.
After a lot of exploration of ways to use Prezi, I found out how to import video clips. Because of
this, I was able to use Prezi as a platform to analyse the footage I filmed as part of my audience
feedback which created a much more in depth response to the question rather than just a video
with no explanation.
11. Adobe Photoshop
Another programme that I didn’t use during the AS coursework was Photoshop. For my A2
coursework, I had to produce ancillary texts (a digipak and poster) which I created on Adobe
Photoshop. In order to make links between my main product and ancillary texts, I decided to use
similar editing of having the artist in black and white whilst the background was colour.
In order to do this, I had to use the lasso tool to cut around the image of the artist and make this
into a new layer. I then edited this new layer to be black and white. These are all new skills I have
learned within the production of my A2 coursework.
