6. INCUBATOR
Incubator is such a poultry equipment which is used
for hatching the birds egg in unnatural ways.
Generally in natural condition, the poultry birds
hatch the egg, but they can maintain and hatch a
limited number of eggs. So, when it is necessary to
hatch a huge number of eggs then the producer must
have to use an incubator. There are many types of
egg incubators. Diesel and electric incubator is the
most popular and widely used.
8. Basin and Jar Type
This type of waterer is circular in nature, its
characterized by two sections i.e. jar for filling water
and basin for delivering water. Clean drinking water
is a critical factor in poultry production. Your poultry
must always have access to clean drinking water at
all times.
10. Automatic bell drinker Type
They are normally called bell drinkers due to their
bell shape. They ensure a continuous flow of water
for the birds throughout the day. They are fitted with
simple clamp mechanism and valve (spring-
mounted) that controls the height and rate of flow
water. These drinkers are brightly colored red to
attract layers. No. of bell-
drinkers=1.3*(circumference÷ Drinker space)
12. Chicken Nipple Drinker Type
Normally used both in deep-litter and in cage
system. In deep-litter system, it is connected to pipes
that cut across the coop and attached to cups that
prevent water drops from wetting the litter
material. In cage system, it is fitted along the cage
compartments and is commonly used in laying
cages. One nipple drinker serves four chicken in each
cage compartment.
14. Linear Trough Feeder Type
Linear Chick Feeder is ideal for those starting off
with poultry rearing. The Linear feeder has an
efficient snap closure that is easy to lock preventing
accidental spillage. The downside to poultry troughs
is that chickens can stand in them. Meaning you
hens are likely to waste feed by scratching, and
flicking food, over the feeder sides. The top of the
feeder should therefore incorporate an anti-perch
bar that will prevent chicks fouling the feed.
16. Circular Trough Feeder Type
Round Galvanised Feeder Pan for Chick Feeding. For
food or water. Particularly useful for small chicks or
ducklings. Please note: There is always a danger of
very young chicks drowning in open pans of water so
keep the water shallow or add pebbles to prevent
drowning.
18. Automatic Cage Feeder Type
Proper distribution of feed is a very important role
player in your poultry business as they determine
and affect on the health and production of eggs and
chickens directly. Almost a decade ago, feeding and
watering of chickens was totally based on manual
functions. But as technology has been growing, you
can easily find an Automatic solution to the feeding
problem for chicken breeds that can both save your
time and money.
19. Mechanized Feeding of Caged Birds
The following mechanized feeding systems are used
in multi-tier cage laying systems.
20. Traveling Hopper
Lindley and Whitaker (1996) cited that, Feed is tored
in one or more metal feed bins outside the building
from where is automatically carried by conveyor to
the feed hoppers at the end of each cage row.
Traveling hoppers ride on a track located above the
cages or on the floor and dispense feed directly into
the trough.
22. Conveyor Feeder
Lindley and Whitaker (1996) mentioned that,
conveyor feeder are also called automated closed
loop mechanical feeders which can be used in any of
the cage systems.
Moreover they added that, there are five common
types:
a) Flat-link chain is a heat-treated steel link with
a loop (hook) formed from the center of the link and
extending to catch the next link
23. Conveyor Feeder
b) Drag auger is a hardened spring coil similar to a
coil spring except constructed with flat wire instead
of a round wire.
c) Cable and button system is a stranded flexible
steel cable with 1-in. diameter plastic buttons
molded in place on two inches intervals.
d) Wire link and button system is a pressed
steel button shaped to receive a spherical headed
wire and washer. The button is constructed with two
haves who are welded together.
35. Nests
The desirable qualities of a nest are that it be roomy,
easily cleaned and
sprayed, dark, cool and well ventilated, and
conveniently located. Dark nests
are preferred because the hens like seclusion for
laying. Dark nests also
reduce the likehood of egg eating.
37. Perches
To ensure comfort, the perches should
allow from 8 to 10 inches of room for each bird
and 15 to 18 inches apart. The
most common material for perches is 2 by 3 or
2 by 4 in. lumber. This may be
laid on the side or placed on edge. In either
case its well to round the upper
edge.
39. Mechanical Debeaker
The objective of debeaking is to prevent
cannibalism for the life of the flock. To do this,
enough of the beak must be
removed to prevent regrowth to its normal length
during the lifetime of the
bird. The mechanical debeaker is a machine that
cuts off and cauterizes a
portion of the beak
