3. ORIGIN OF TRIANA
The goddess Astarte, fleeing the Hercules' love, took
refuge on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Hercules
went across the river looking for Astarte, especially on the
opposite of the bank which she was, so he couldn't find
her. In his search, Hercules, was surprised by the beautiful
lands that he discovered, that he decided to call the name
of Hispalis. Also, Astarte was in the other bank in which
she had taken refuge, and she thought that the
extraordinary nature around her was
the ideal place to establish a new city.
According to legend Astarte didn't
hesitate to call this new city, to the
other side of the Guadalquivir, Triana.
4. NO ∞DO
NO∞DO, the symbol you cannot
go a day in Sevilla without seeing, was
created by King Alfonso X to honor Sevilla’s support
for him during the struggle for possession of the city.
The symbol, which is spoken as “No me ha dejado,”
translates to “he who did not leave me.” When spoken
in a Sevillian accent, the phrase sounds like “no
madeja-do,” which explains the NO∞DO symbol, as
“madeja” can mean looped thread, an image easily
represented by the ∞ symbol.
5. PEDRO'S HEAD
King Don Pedro, nicknamed The Just or
The Cruel, is quite legendary around
Sevilla. People said that when he moved, their
joints sounded. King Don Pedro always said
that if someone commits any crime, they
had to pay it.
One night the king went for a walk and found Guzman, and they
started fighting because Guzman did not support the king. An
old neighbour looked out of the window with a candle. She saw a
man killing another man. She was surprised and her candle fell
off. The man run away, and the old woman talked with the
judge and told what she saw. She said the king was guilty, and
his head was hung
in the same place
he killed Guzman.
6. THE WOMAN BETWEEN WALLS
In 1868, Marquis de la Mina called a builder to make a very
important job. The builder couldn't say no. He brought him in a
horse's car with bandage eyes to Marquis's house, he lived in San
Lorenzo number 4. When they arrived,they took him to the
basement. The builder was scared, and he found
a tied women in a chair. The Marquis said he
would build up the wall at the door.
When he finished the job, the Marquis paid with
gold coins.
Back way, the builder remembered the way of
Marquis' house. The builder told his wife what
happened and they went to look for a judge
for confess all and answer questions. The builder
knew more less the way to marquis's house and he had hear the
rings of the bell of San Lorenzo(...) (it continued)
7. MRS MARIA CORONEL AND KING
PEDRO I
Mrs María Coronel was married to Mr Juan de la Cerda,
but he died decapitated. She was widowed. Time passed
and the king Pedro I fell in love with her. He persecuted
her constantly, and she was very tired and went to live
with her parents.
One day, she wanted to hide from him and went into an
abbey. He found her and she ran to the kitchen. She
poured a pan with boiling oil over her face to stop the
king's love. Pedro saw her and let her go.
