• The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on
September 21, 2021 that they have withdrawn from the
Pakistan tour that was scheduled to take place in October.
ECB had earlier this year agreed to play two additional T20
World Cup warm-up games in Pakistan in October, ahead of
the T20 World Cup.
• A shot women's tour was also scheduled during the same
time with double headers alongside the men's team games.

3. WHAT IS KARNATAKA RELIGIOUS STRUCTURE (PROTECTION) BILL 2021?
• The Karnataka Religious Structure (Protection) Bill 2021 was
introduced by the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on
September 20, 2021.
• The Bill aims at protecting illegal religious structures in the state after
his government faced a backlash over the demolition of a temple in
the Nanjangud district of Mysuru.
• The move to table the bill came a day after CM Bommai during the BJP
state executive meeting said that his government will take corrective
measures over the demolition of the Nanjagud temple.

4. KATLEY DECLARED AS STATE FISH OF SIKKIM
• The fisheries department of Sikkim has said that Sikkim
Government has declared ‘Copper Mahseer’ locally named
‘Katley’ as the State Fish.
• The official from the Fisheries department of the state said
that the government has declared ‘Neolissochilus
hexagonolepis’ commonly known as ‘Copper Mahseer’ and
locally known as ‘Katley’ as a State Fish.
• The decision to declare Kately as State Fish has been taken
to highlight the significance of the fish and to emphasize its
conservation measures. Katley Fish in Sikkim has a high
market value and is also preferred by the public in the state.

5. ASIA'S FIRST HYBRID FLYING CAR TO BE USED FOR MEDICAL

• Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia
reviewed the concept model of Asia’s First Hybrid
flying car on September 20, 2021. The Minister
said that the flying cars will be used for
transporting people and cargo and for medical
emergencies as well.

6. GERMANY ELECTIONS ON SEPTEMBER 26 – HOW CITIZENS
CAST 2 VOTES IN A SINGLE ELECTION
• German election results 2021 on September 26 will determine
who will succeed Chancellor Angela Merkel after being in power
for 16 years. Merkel will not be running in the 2021 German
Elections.
• In the most open race in decades for the lower house of
parliament known as Bundestag, the three leading parties are:
the Centre-right Christian Democrats, the Centre-left Social
Democrats, and the Greens.
• Out of 83 million citizens, approximately 60.4 million German
citizens aged 18 and above will be eligible to vote.
Approximately 2.8 million German citizens will vote for the first
time in life. Polls will open from 8am to 6 pm (6am GMT to 4pm
GMT) on September 26.
• All votes will be counted by Monday, September 27.
Interestingly, the German elections have a complex voting
system wherein the German voters get two votes per ballot.

• NITI Aayog informed in a statement on September 20,
2021, that India has ranked 46th by the World
Intellectual Property Organization in the Global
Innovation Index Rankings 2021.
• The country has climbed two spots from its ranking in
2020.
• The official statement further mentioned that India has
been on a rising path over the past several years in the
Global Innovation Index as the country has risen from
ranking 81 in the year 2015 to 46 in 2021.

9. JOHNSON & JOHNSON COVID-19 DOSES LIKELY TO ARRIVE IN OCTOBER IN INDIA
• India is expecting to receive Johnson & Johnson COVID
vaccine doses from October 2021. The vaccine will be packed
and shipped in India by the Indian partner of US pharma
giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J).
• This will be a major boost to the vision of PM Narendra Modi
to vaccine the entire population with at least one dose of
vaccine.
• The Central government is yet to sign a supply deal with
Johnson & Johnson, as per media reports. Once signed, J&J’s
Indian partner company Biological E will formulate and make
5ml vials of the vaccine.

• The 76th UN General Assembly's high-level segment,
General Debate will begin from today, September 21 and
will run till September 27, 2021.
• The week-long segment will see many top speakers
including US President, China's Premier and Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi.
• While US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart,
Xi Jinping will address the world leaders today, PM
Narendra Modi will address the forum on September 25th.
• This will be US President Joe Biden's first address to the

11. NAGALAND: INDIA’S 61ST SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY PARK OPENED IN KOHIMA
• Nagaland’s first and India’s 61st Software Technology Park of India
(STPI) centre was opened on September 17, 2021, in Kohima. The
Center was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Skill
Development & Entrepreneurship, Electronics and IT Rajeev
Chandrashekhar.
• The Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, KD Vizo
informed that in 2015, the Director-General of STPI, during the e-Naga
Summit had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up the
Software Technology Park of India at Kohima, Nagaland.
• The Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar, while speaking on the
occasion said that the inauguration of STPI in Nagaland was a part of
the fulfillment of PM Modi’s vision of creating a technology ecosystem
in the Northeast by creating opportunities for the future generations

13. INDIA TO RESUME VACCINE MAITRI INITIATIVE IN FOURTH
QUARTER: HEALTH MINISTER
• Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed on
September 20, 2021 that India will resume its Vaccine Maitri
initiative in the fourth quarter this year, starting from October
2021.
• The Health Minister informed that India will resume the initiative
given that Biological E and some other companies are going to
launch their vaccines and India will produce more vaccine doses
than the requirement.
• The Health Minister shared that the centre is expecting more
than 30 crore doses from the vaccine manufacturers in the next
month. He stated that the production will go further up as
Biological E and other companies are bringing their vaccines into
the market.

14. GOVT TO ISSUE 12-DIGIT UNIQUE IDS FOR FARMERS
• The central government has started generating 12-digit unique
IDs for farmers as a part of the government’s Digital
Agriculture Mission to create a unified Farmers Service
Interface.
• The unique ID will help in availing all-farm-related services of
various agricultural schemes and credit facilities seamlessly.
The IDs will also help the central and state government to plan
better.
• So far, the national Farmers Database with details of 5.5 crores
farmers across 11 states including Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan,
Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh has been prepared.
• The remaining states including Kerala, Telangana, Punjab, will
be covered in the coming months. The unique IDs will be
launched once the database of 8 crore farmers will be ready.

15. SEROTYPE-2 DENGUE: CENTRE ASKS 11 STATES TO TAKE
ACTION TO CONTAIN SEVERE DENGUE CASES
• Centre convened a high-level meeting on September 18,
2021 to discuss the emerging challenge of Serotype-2
dengue cases, which have wreaked havoc in 11 states
across the country.
• The high-level meeting was chaired by Cabinet Secretary
Rajiv Gauba and it saw in attendances representatives of
states/UTs.
• The officials also reviewed and discussed COVID-19
management and response strategy through a video
conference.
• During the meeting, the Union Health Secretary highlighted
the emerging challenge of serotype-II dengue in 11 States.
Serotype-2 dengue is being associated with more cases and
more complications than other forms of the disease.
