1) The leather industry generates large amounts of wastewater that contains pollutants like tannins, suspended solids, BOD, chlorides, sulphides, sulphates, sodium and heavy metals. 2) Traditional physical and chemical treatment methods for leather effluents are very expensive. 3) Fungi are effective at biologically treating leather effluents through their ability to produce enzymes and metabolites that can break down pollutants, and they adapt well to harsh environments.
