3. Roots
They help provide support by holding on to the
ground and absorbing water and nutrients from
the soil.
They can also store sugars for later use.
They either have taproots systems or fibrous root
systems.
Tap Root- a straight tapering root growing
vertically downward and forming the center from
which subsidiary rootlets spring.
Fibrous Root system- a fine, root or rootlet
which absorbs moisture and nutrients from the
soil.
4. Stems
They carry the water and the
nutrients to the leaves.
There are two types of cells in the
stems xylem cells and phloem cells
in the stem.
Xylem Cells- move water through
out the plant.
Phloem Cells- move food either
down or up the plant to other parts.
5. Leaves
Leaves make food for the plant.
Leaves can be simple.
Simple-A leaf attached to a petiole.
Petiole- part that joins the leaf of a plant
to the main stem.
There is also a compound leaf.
compound leaf- made up of smaller leaves
called leaflets.
They are coated with the cuticle.
cuticle- it is the shiny thing that covers the
stems, leaves, and fruits.
6. Flowers
Some flowers can be huge or
simply small but they are made
up of many different parts.
Pistil- female part of the flower
it has four parts stigma, style,
ovary, and ovule.
Stamen- male reproductive
organ it has to other part in it
anther and the filament.
