Flowers are the reproductive part of a plant. They are not only involved in reproduction, but are also a good source of food for other living organisms. They are a rich source of nectar for the pollinators.
2. A plant has many different parts and each
part plays its own role in the life cycle of
a plant.
The four (4) main
parts of a plant are:
The Plant: Flower
3. The flower contains the reproductive parts
of the plant and also produces seeds that
begins the plant’s life cycle.
The Flower
4. The Stem holds up the plant and carries
water and nutrients from the roots to the
leaves.
The Stem
5. The Leaves produce food for the plant
through a process called photosynthesis.
The Leaf
6. The Pistil, is the female reproductive part
of a flower. The pistil; centrally located,
typically consists of a swollen base. The
ovary, does contains the potential seeds, or
ovules; a stalk, or style, arising from the
ovary; and a pollen-receptive tip. The
stigma is variously shaped and is often
sticky.
The Pistil
7. The stamen (plural stamina or stamens)
is the pollen-producing reproductive organ
of a flower.
Collectively it’s the stamens form the
androecium.
The Stamen
8. Petals are modified leaves that surround the
reproductive parts of flowers. They are
often brightly coloured, or unusually
shaped to attract pollinators.
The Petal
9. A flower consist of many important parts, all of which have their
won function in the life of a plant.
The Parts of the Flower
10. The Female reproductive part of the flower
is called the PISTIL.
The pistil consists of the stigma, style and
ovary also known as the ‘CARPEL’ shown below:
The Reproductive Parts
11. The Stigma- It is the sticky surface at the top
of the pistil which traps and holds the pollen.
The Style- It is the tube structure that holds
up the stigma. The style leads down to the
Ovary which contains the female sex call called,
Ovules.
The Reproductive Parts
12. The male reproductive part of the flower is
called the STAMEN. The stamen consists of
two (2) parts: the anther and the filament.
The anther produces the pollen grains.
The filament is the slender stalk that supports
(holds up) the anther.

13. Draw all diagrams from your Notes.
On paper, trace or draw the following on different
pages in your notebook:
1. A labelled Diagram showing the Parts of the Flower.
2. A labelled Diagram showing ONLY The Female
Reproductive Parts of the Flower.
3. A labelled Diagram showing ONLY THE Male
Reproductive Parts of the Flower.
