Courage In The Film, Pursuit Of Happyness, And WALL-E
Courage, determination and perseverance all relate together. In my opinion you can't have one
without the other, and you can relate these three things to any aspects of your life whether you are in
a low point in your life or on top of the world. You won't have a life lesson where none of these
three words are related to that life lesson, and that goes for both movies. Chris was taught to always
fight for what you want and don't ever give up, and WALL–E fought for making earth a better place
and he never gave up. In the movie Pursuit of Happyness, these three words are expressed I think as
best as possible. My definition of courage is taking a bet on your bravery towards an event that
would change your result. Harvard did an article on the steps of learning courage as a skill and using
it in situations. One main step I saw in the article was "Setting Goals" which would be the reason
that you are going to act courage's Chris had a lot of courage to live out on the street, while having

Pursuit Of Happyness Sociology
The film The Pursuit of Happyness is a biography based on the life of Chris Gardner, who is played
by the actor Will Smith. Will Smith portrays a hardworking father who is struggling to sale bone–
density scanners to the local hospitals, while trying to make ends meet for his family. After his wife
leaves, he is left to raise his 5–year–old son Christopher alone. Making it clear to those around him,
it is obvious that he is among the working poor class and cannot meet the basic human needs
(absolute), he can barely pay bills to keep his home, can hardly provide food, and has a rough time
being able to keep his son in daycare. Being a part of the working poor class means that you have

Jay proceed to tell Chris several times that he was not capable of completing the cube until Chris
handed it back to him leaving Jay speechless. That particular scene demonstrated why people should
not judge a book by its cover. During the entire film Dean Witter could not stress enough the
importance of how tough the process would be in order to work for his company, even if someone
got a perfect score on the exam their chances of being hired was still very slim. Chris exceeds those
expectations and is later given the job. The film The Pursuit of Happyness told a story of a true
American Hero. Chris Gardner should be an inspiration to those who have been faced with the same
situations. All those sleepless nights trying to think of ways to make money, then moving from one
homeless shelter to the next, and having to face his son everyday hoping that one day he would
understand, is something no one in our society should have to go through in order to live in a world
that is based off power and greed. Chris Gardner was an underrated African–American who lived an

Pursuit of Happyness Will Smith Speech
English Speech – The Pursuit of Happyness The Journey movie I chose to talk about is The Pursuit
of Happyness. It is an inner journey. The movie starts off showing the scenery – the Golden Gate
Bridge, an American flag and the crowded busy street full of business people and the homeless. The
camera then focuses on Chris Gardener and his son Christopher. Chris says throughout the movie
the 6 stages of his life. It starts off with 'Riding the bus'. In 'Riding the bus' we learn that he lives in
an apartment with his partner Glenda and son and that he sells portable bone density scanners to
make a living, however they are quite hard to sell as they are seen as unnecessary – a luxury item.
We also find out that his wife works very long and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stage 4 is 'Internship' and yes Chris got it and now starts his 6month internship. He gets told that
generally the one who brings in the most money for the company gets hired. He starts off as very
unappreciated as he was the one who was always asked to buy coffee and donuts for his bosses. He
is also disadvantaged, as he has to leave the office at 4pm to pick up Christopher when everyone
else stays back till 7pm. Later on he manages to get a meeting with Walter Ribbon that if it goes
well he could get the company lots of money but he is forced to run an errand for his boss, which
consequently makes him miss his interview with Walter. The next day he goes to Walter's house to
apologise for missing the meeting. Walter invites him and Christopher to the NFL game. He tries to
convince Walter to come to Dean Witter but Walter says no but Chris meets plenty of other people
interested in Dean Witter. Chris had now sold all his scanners after 4 months, he felt like things were
going okay. Until he reaches the 5th stage of his life – 'Paying taxes'. The government had sent him
a letter saying that he was way overdue in paying his taxes and that they had taken the money he
owed out of his bank account only leaving him with $21.33 left. He takes Christopher to the park
when he spots a man with his machine that he had left on the station. He manages to get it back and
goes straight away to find someone to buy it. He

The Pursuit of Happyness is a multi million dollar award winning film that demonstrates the honesty
behind supporting a family. The production takes place in San Francisco, California. Chris Gardner,

three months of back due rent. Now homeless, he and Christopher are forced to sleep in random
places such as a train station bathroom and various shelters for over a year. Chris meets and
impresses Jay Twistle, who manages a successful stockbroking company Dean Witter Reynolds,

American Dream in the Film, The Pursuit of Happyness Essay
Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially
raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist
role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the Declaration
of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the propagation and
detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005) supports the idea of
the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the other hand, supports and
acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to believe, what a lot of people
already believe, that it is a dream to become monetarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility of
any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men are
created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be
treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in the
earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known
ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters,
newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get
most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of
watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their
view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin
Franklin to Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", which promote the American
Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is
changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. Knowing this, the
propagandist role of the American dream through film

The Pursuit Of Happyness Movie
The film "The Pursuit Of Happyness", directed by Gabriele Muccino in 2006, depicted a responsible
and hardworking salesman Chris Gardner struggles for life and try his best to improve the quality of
his family environment. In spite of facing various difficulties, Gardner never gives up and he
manages to pull through in sense of determination and finally obtained his " happiness" in his life.
After watching the movie, I agree on the point that one must ready to sacrifice and works really hard
in order to achieve his/her dream as there is no shortcut to success. In the following paragraphs, I
will describe some interesting and meaningful scenes in the movie and explain how these scenes
could actually bring some moral values or inspiration in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gardner tries so hard to look for homeless shelter for his son and he even quarrels with others to
fight for the last room. Despite facing these hardships, Gardner still stays optimistic, plays jokes
with his son and brings him to the playground, trying to make him happy. In real life, I like to stay
optimistic even if facing problems as I know that there is nothing cannot be solved. On the other
hand, a pessimistic person will only make things become more complicated due to their negative
thinking and eventually bringing more problems.
After six–month of training, Gardner is selected from 20 competitors to work as a stockbroker in
Dean Witter due to his excellent performance during the intern. In one scene, Gardner is called up to
the meeting room, and he is informed by the director manager Mr. Frohms as he is officially getting
a position of a stockbroker in Dean Witter. Gardner is so happy as all the hard work he had done is
finally paid off. In this part, he called his life as "Happiness".
In conclusion, "The Pursuit Of Happyness" is not only a movie but it is a real situation in our life
that in pursuing our dreams we must have gone through difficulties and sacrifice is needed for the
dream to come true. We must always keep in mind that there is no shortcut to success and even it
does, it is just temporary. Like a quote says, "No pain, no

Comparing 'Candide And The Pursuit Of Happyness'
The book and film that I have decided to compare are "Candide" written by Voltaire and The Pursuit
of Happyness, whose screenplay was done by Steven Conrad. The main characters in both The
Pursuit of Happyness and "Candide" have a very optimistic view of the world and are searching for
their own ideas of true happiness but they both go about it in two very different ways. By the end of
the book and film each character learns what it takes for them to reach their own version of the
pursuit of happiness. Although each character finds happiness in their own way their main goals of
finding out how to live a truly happy life are the same. In "Candide" and the Pursuit of Happyness,
the main characters, Candide and Chris, both have a very optimistic ... Show more content on

The character Candide tries to find his happiness through the materialistic things in the world
because he believes that that's what's going to make him happy, "The first day of their journey was
rather pleasant. They were heartened by the thought that they now possessed more treasure than all
of Asia, Europe and Africa could assemble" (Voltaire Pg.67). Candide thinks that if he has lots of
money then somehow his life will be so much better altogether, but Candide realizes that money is
something that can go away just as fast as it came. Just because money can buy you a lot of things
its not going to necessarily make your life a happier one. Money is something that can bring you joy
but it isn't going to bring your true happiness. Joy is one of those things that's there for a little bit but
it can be taken away very easily, true happiness on the other hand is something that stays with you.
While Candide looks to materialistic things for happiness Chris uses the motivation to be a good
father to his son to find his own happiness. Christopher Gardner: "You gotta trust me, all right?"
Christopher: "I trust you." Christopher Gardner: "Cause I'm getting a better job" (Conrad, The
Pursuit of Happyness). Gardner will do anything to make his son happy and to give his son the life
that he deserves. In this case in order to give his

Pursuit Of Happyness Themes
The movie "The Pursuit of Happyness", is about a movie based on the life of Chris Gardner, who
was a salesman with a strong commitment to his family. As Gardner struggles to get ahead, he faces
countless adversities and found strength in knowing that he is going through this to make a better
life for his son. Although Gardner and his son became homeless, he had a desire to have a better life.
He also managed to find moments to help shape and mode his son's education with teachable
moments.
People handle diversity in several different ways. I found similarities in the way Gardner handled
his troubled life with his five–year–old son. Gardner found himself homeless a few times throughout
the movie. The first time was the hardest seeing that he did not see it truly coming. He was staying
at a motel dodging the manager until the manager sat his belongings outside the door and changed
the locks. As he stood, there is disbelief, dumb founded as to what to do. He pulled it together to
take his son to a nearby subway station. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Gardner would walk his son to daycare, he would take the opportunity for even the smallest
teachable moment. He pointed out the word happiness was misspelled on his daycare walk. With
concerns his son was in the only daycare he could afford was only teaching him how to watch TV
shows that the owner deemed to tell the history of our country. Likewise, I needed to put my son in a
daycare that I knew was not where I wanted him to be, but it was the only place I could afford at the
time. This daycare was over crowded leaving the children unattended to do whatever they wanted.
Parents try their hardest to make sure their child is safe, but when you are faced with having to work

How Is Chris Gardner Untrue In The Pursuit Of Happyness
The movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, produced by Lassiter, Blumenthal, Tisch, Black, and Smith,
is loosely based on the true story of the struggle–filled life of Chris Gardner and his rise from near
bankruptcy to becoming one of the greatest and richest stockbrokers in the San Francisco area, but
contains many details that are completely untrue, most importantly the idea that he sold bone density
scanners for a living. In the movie, Chris spends his life savings on a massive amount of bone
density scanners, which he relies on entirely for his income every day. However, the machines do
not sell as successfully as Chris hoped or expected, and he is left broke and struggling to support for
his family, which consists of his wife and his son, Christopher,

Movie Analysis: the Pursuit of Happyness Essays
Based on the real life story of Chris Gardner, the Pursuit of Happyness looks at the crests and
troughs in Chris' life on his way to becoming a stock broker, and eventually as everyone knows, a
multi–millionaire. Will Smith played the role of Chris Gardner while Smith's son, Jaden Smith
played Gardner's 7 or 8–year–old son.
At one level, even though the movie is titled The Pursuit of Happyness (deliberately spelt wrong), it
is pretty depressing. Yes, the movie is supposed to focus on the struggles of the main protagonist as
he chases what seems like a chimerical dream. However, every time you think that things are going
to get better, they only get even worse for Chris. As Chris and his son move from one slump to
another, you begin to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me that scene in the cab summed up the movie – try, try and try again. You have to determine all
the moves for yourself and you have to get it right. That is how one pursues happiness, and Chris'
life is a testimony to that.
All this is voiced in one way or other when Chris talks to his son in the movie. In one scene when
Chris is playing basketball with his son, he says he never made it as a basketball player and his son
wouldn't make it either. And just immediately after, he tells the kid, "Don't ever let someone tell you,
you can't do something. Not even me." Or at another time he says, "You got a dream, you gotta
protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want
something? Go get it. Gardner". And that's what Chris does – he gets out there, works himself out
and makes it – really makes it, giving hope to a lot of others like him. Not only does this scene voice
that people should focus of the strength of trying despite their failures but it also depicts the love
that parents have for their children can directly impact the children. This scene especially shows that
was parents say and do can have a direct effect on the children. By Chris telling his son to never let
anyone tell him he can not do something and that if he has a dream to go get it. These are strong
words that reflect what most parents wish to teach their children. To never

Pursuit Of Happyness Book And Movie Comparison
In The Pursuit of Happyness, both the movie and the story had to do with Christopher Gardner's
struggles through his life to get a well paying job while he tries to take care of his young son. The
director, Gabriele Muccino, made some choices that correlated pretty well with some of the events
that happened in the story. For example, in both the film and and the real life story, according to
Christophers Biography "Christopher Gardner never knew his father, and lived with his beloved
mother, Bettye Jean." As a result of this, when Christopher Gardner had his own child with his wife
before she left him, he wanted to raise his son without putting him through what he experienced as a
child. As Christopher Garner was trying to be a good father ... Show more content on

An example of a similarity are that his wife took his son away from Christopher Garner for short
period of time before Christopher had his son. Furthermore, as mentioned before, Chris Gardner
grew up without a father and lived with his single mother. The reason Chris Gardner didn't have a
dad in his life is kept the same pretty much in both the movie and the true story. In both the movie
and the actual event, Chris Gardiner didn't have a father in his life because his father was abusive to
him(Christopher Gardiner Biography) In addition, Christopher promised his young self that when he
had his own kids, he was not going to mistreat them and that he was always going to be there and
would not go anywhere and leave them. Another similarities between the movie and the real event
was when Gardeners Girlfriend left him and their son. Gardiner and his girlfriend had started to run
out of money to do anything, so instead of helping she went for the door and left. She started to visit
them one in a blue moon but eventually just stopped coming. "He soon moved in with Jackie after

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Pursuit Of Happyness
Everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the courage to pursue their dream because of the fear of
failing. "Blue–Collar Brilliance" by Mike Rose and "The Pursuit of Happyness" directed by
Gabriele Muccino discusses where dedication takes a person in life. In the article of "Blue–Collar
Brilliance" Rose, discusses the life of two successful individuals who have no education but are very
dedicated to their work. "The Pursuit of Happyness" discuss the life of a struggling man who is not
able to support his family, but never leaves the hope of one day becoming successful. "Blue–Collar
Brilliance" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" share a common theme of, it does not matter whether a
person has an education or not; it takes a lot of dedication to succeed. Both authors claim that
everyone can be successful in their job as long as a person has patience and dedication. Composer
Rose and Muccino both make an effective argument about dedication to their audience by providing
real life experiences of an individual.
The similarities between "Blue–Collar Brilliance" and The Pursuit of Happyness is to get their
audience to see what a person goes through in order to be where they are at now. Authors Rose and
Muccino have a very strong pathos by providing life experiences of individuals. The Pursuit of

The Pursuit Of Happyness By Chris Gardner
The Pursuit of Happyness In society there are still differences in classes such as higher class, middle
class, and lower class. In sociology, we observed a film called The Pursuit Happyness, where we
witnessed the struggles a father went through to succeed. Chris Gardner, who was played by Will
Smith, is living in his apartment with his wife and his son. Due to their struggles, the mother walks
out on and leaves Chris struggling alone with his son. In the film Chris Gardner applies for an
unpaid internship for a competitive stockbroker company where out of twenty men, only one gets
the job. While he is on his internship, we see the hardships of getting kicked out of his apartment to
staying at a shelter home to then sleeping in a subway bathroom with his son. Viewing the movie
through a sociological lens, The Pursuit of Happyness will be analyzed according to the major three
sociological paradigms: structural functionalism, social conflict theory, and symbolic
interactionalism. As the movie begins, a structural functionalist would identify the social institutions
involved. One of the first institutions introduced is family. The spouse of Chris Gardner is not
satisfied with the amount of income coming he is earning. It is clear that the institution of family is
not meeting the needs of happiness and financial stability because of the low income. The institution
of family interrelates with many others, such as the education institution and especially economic
institution.

Adversity In Chris Gardner's 'The Pursuit Of Happyness'
"There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed,
its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time." Malcom X said this quote long
ago and it's still relatable to this day. Adversity takes courage, heart, and perseverance. All these
qualities will make your hardtimes worth it after a devastating heartbreak, but making the right
choice however, is not a cakewalk. The easy road is there with a big sign saying: "It is too hard to
move on! Just stay here!" This is a tempting offer for some, but others have a different thought in
mind. Their story does not end there, it is just beginning. The choice of having adversity is there and
only the strong–minded will take it and continue their story, and their next step towards success.

What Is The Eulogy For The Pursuit Of Happyness
Statement of Intent: In this piece of writing, the eulogy is about mourning the loss of Christopher
Gardner at the funeral, in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness". His son, Christopher who speaks
at his father's funeral showing the relationship between him and his father and also show the impact
that Christopher has made on his son. This eulogy is set shortly after the end of the movie. Welcome
everyone, we have all gathered here to mourn the loss of a good man, Christopher Gardner, my
father. I am glad that I got the chance to have a father like him. I have always admired him, adored
him. He was my role model and still is, I look up to him. He is the best dad in the world ever. I
remember some time ago when my parents separated due to some financial issues, I'm not really
sure though, but even in these times, my mom left me but my father stayed on my side. He never left
me, he was there when I needed both my parents the most. He did everything in his power to keep
me happy. I hope I was the son he wanted me to be, I hope I didn't disappoint him as his son. I will
never forget the words he said to me that day, "If you want something, go get it, period". I remember
when he didn't have a job and we were facing difficult times. I didn't realise the situation we were
in, but now I've realised that to get through the night, we had to sleep in a public bathroom in a
subway. Well, at that time it seemed like an adventure but now, not as much. But we got through
those time together, the times that tried to separate us which did succeed on separating me from my
mom. If it wasn't for him, if he didn't take that one more step, we would still be sleeping in public
bathrooms and I wouldn't even be here talking to you guys. He has carried me throughout this
painful but extremely helpful journey which has taught me many things. The most important out of
all is the value of life and money. When I was younger, I didn't care how much money my parents
had, I didn't care how much they spent on me. The only one thing I did was to order them to but me
useless toys, the toys which I barely played with. Now I know their pain, I know what they went

Pursuit Of Happyness Movie Analysis
The movie Pursuit of happyness was based on a true story of a small family. The father Chris
Gardner eventually become's a single father of a young son because of the struggle of the economy
trying to sell bone density scanners .The movie takes place in San Francisco California in the 1981.
In this movie it shows strength, survival of the economy, and how if you set your mind to get
something you want it can change your life around. Success always starts with what seems like
failure. In the begging of the movie Chris feels like he can never do anything right. Linda his wife
works in a factory doing double shifts to help keep her small family from becoming poor. While she
was doing this Chris was failing to provide for his family with the Bone density scanners that he had
invested everything they had in. He try's to calm her down when he comes home with the same
scanners he left with. Linda becomes very frustrated and negative towards Chris because he wasn't
selling them and failing to pick up his son from daycare. After a few days of this happening and
looking for a job he mentioned a internship that he had talked to a guy that he saw on the street with
a stock brokerage firm. This is when Linda decides its enough and leaves him with their son. Even
though Linda left with their son Chris didn't let this stop him and this is when he took the internship.

see that Chris had what it took all along. Rhetoric in a film is of utmost importance that without
valid justification for what is occurring in the screen, the film can become confusing unless there is
some degree of logos. In the Pursuit of Happyness the theme of hopelessness effects the logos of the

Stereotypes In The Movie 'The Pursuit Of Happyness'
"Stay a child for as long as you can, because this is a real world out here." My mom has always
stressed to me the same exact quote. As she was saying this, of course i didn't understand at the
time. When you're a child it seems like the only thing you want to do is be older, in order to do the

The Pursuit Of Happyness Character Analysis
In the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" there was a lot of life lessons incorporated in the film. One
of the things that Chris Gardner told his son, Christopher "Don't ever let somebody tell you, you
can't do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream? You gotta protect it. People can't do
something themselves, they want to tell you, you can't do it. You want something, go get it. Period."
I think that this is really inspirational, and can be used for everyone in any situation. Chris Gardner
displayed a great deal of determination, humbleness and always had a good disposition. These
things stood out to me because personally, I do not think I would be able to obtain all of those
qualities while going through the situations Chris ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A positive attitude is different for many people but I believe that Chris Gardner had the perfect
example. He had a great sense of humor to go along with it too. When the homeowner of the
establishment that they were staying at kicked them out of their home, Chris Gardner and
Christopher had stayed in a subway station public bathroom. He had pretended that the bone density
scanner was a time traveling device to get their minds off of things. He and his son imagined that
they had "transported" to the Jurassic era and that there were dinosaurs roaming around and they
were cavemen. After they had both played the game for a little while they found a "cave" which was
a public bathroom to sleep in. After they made a "bed" made out of toilet paper they slept while the
door was locked to ensure that no one would come in. He also had a positive attitude about selling
his scanners. They were hard to sell because; as was said in the movie the hospitals thought they
were not a necessity, but Chris Gardner managed to cell all of them. I think that a positive attitude is
most important because it can get you through anything if you believe that you can. After Mr.
Gardner thought he was through all of the "tough" times and he had sold his last bone density
scanner, the government had taken all but twenty–one dollars of his money. Although at times he
was angry he thought of the future, what he can accomplish, and

Examples Of Masculinity In The Pursuit Of Happyness
Masculinity in The Pursuit of Happyness
Nowadays, men should break down traditional norms like taking care of family, which women are
supposed to do. The Pursuit of Happyness, directed by Gabriele, is a movie based on a true story of
an African–American man named Chris Gardner, a multi–millionaire investor and a motivational
speaker. Gardner is not only a persistent, hard–working, and confident man, but also an emotional
and a responsible father who played both masculine and feminine roles as a single parent. Thus, he
is a clear example that proves the negative stereotype about African–American men is wrong. There
is a stereotype that African–American men are easy to give up on working and raising a family. Due
to Gardner's incredible efforts, his story has inspired many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the article "Becoming Members of Society," Aaron Devor mentions that confidence is one of the
most important characters of men (393). Through the movie, it is easy to realize that Gardner was
really confident since he never showed any fear in bad situations where people mostly feel nervous.
As an illustration, when attending an interview of an internship course, he did not dress formally,
even worse than normal, since he appeared with a dirty face and wore a tank top, a jean jacket and
blue jeans instead of a vest and a tie. Due to his dirty appearance, he made interviewers think that he
looked down on them. He was not embarrassed, but he controlled himself to remain calm by
explaining the reasons for his casual performance. During the interview, he was as confident as
giving concise answers when being questioned, so he was accepted to be an intern at a stock
company. Therefore, Gardner's story demonstrates that confidence is an important masculinity trait
and men should have it or improve themselves to be self–confident because of its

The Need to Belong Essay
It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong
Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every
individual's inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don't find a
sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self–
alienation. Peter Skrzynecki's "Immigrant Chronicles" serves to highlight the basic fundamental
desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored with
Skrzynecki's poems "St Patrick's College", "Feliks Skrzynecki" and Gabrielle Muccino's 21st
century film "Pursuit of Happyness". The notion of belonging being an inherent part of human
nature is extensively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feliks Skrzynecki is the persona's father and is expressed as a barrier to his belonging as he couldn't
connect to their Polish culture. There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to
demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, "My father". Although this shifts
overtime from "my" to "his", the use of the pronoun "his" reveals dislocation and disconnectedness
between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired
to belong, but couldn't find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human
nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure
connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of
adhesiveness and connectedness. The persona describes his home and his parents sense of belonging
through their "beloved garden". There's a symbol of importance of belonging through their garden.
"Grew rows of Carneilla and rows of sweet corn", emphasizing ownership and a pleasant sense of
imagery. "Like a bird, eating pumpkins – I promised myself I'd lay off". The symbolism of a bird
resembles a sense of freedom within their placing. Belonging being an inherent part of human nature
is explored within Gabrielle Muccino's 21st Century film "pursuit of happyness". This film reveals
great meaning and one's desire to belong. The protagonist, Chris Garner,

they can relate to this human struggle. This movie lets individuals know that eventually if they make
continuous efforts life will improve and circumstances in life can be changed through an individual's

The mood of the film during these times were always sad and seemingly hopeless; the sound was
always slow and solemn to represent all the various circumstances that he faced. Though things
were challenging for him at night, he put on a brave face during the day and he did not allow those
circumstances to weigh him down. With all the problems, he was facing during the night he was
able to overcome it the next day. These actions were only possible with his optimistic spirit. With
everything Chris and his son went through it would seem almost impossible to be optimistic in that
situation. Optimism was a crucial factor in his successes. It brought him to a place where life was

Happiness In The Movie Pursuit Of Happiness
Believing in self or self–trust could save someone's life and lead life into the right direction toward
success. It did in "Pursuit of Happyness" where Mr. Gardner was losing control over his life until he
trusted himself. Then his life started to turn around and when he believed in himself, everyone else
believed in him and he succeed. Losing something of value can cause pain but when self–trust is
lost, there is not much to do when you don't have self–trust. When self–trust is present, believing
and achieving soon follow leading to success in life. When America wrote the Declaration of
Independence, one of the most important, and well–known lines was "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness". Something that is interesting to look into is why Thomas Jefferson put "pursuit of
happiness instead of just "happiness". The pursuit of happiness is about the journey, the good and
the bad. Getting through the hard times knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel. If happiness is
always present, there is no pursuit then happiness is suddenly taken away, and the person doesn't
know how to pursuit it again due to no pursuit at the beginning of happiness. The actual pursuit to
happiness is more important than the happiness itself due to the fact that happiness can be taken
away at anytime but the pursuit to get back will always be there. This is shown through the movie
"Pursuit of Happyness" and how self–trust is so important in someone's life. In the movie, Mr.
Gardner loses his wife, his apartment, and almost loses his kid. He couldn't catch a break,
everything that could go wrong went wrong did. What he didn't lose what his self–trust; that he
could provide for little boy, be the father figure his kid needs, and still be on the pursuit of happiness
when it seemed like happiness was a million miles away. The job he was applying for was a
stockbroker and it was him and 20 other smart people fighting for it. Nobody thought he could do it,
not even his own wife who left him shortly after. One example of self–trust in the movie is when
Mr. Gardner and his son Christopher are playing basketball and talking then Mr. Gardner said "You

The 2006 movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" follows the story of Chris Gardner, played by Will
Smith, and his five year old son, Chris, played by Jaden Smith. The other two characters who have a
big role in the plot of the movie are Chris's wife, Linda, played by Thandie Newton, and Jay Twistle,
played by Brian Howe. This film portrays Chris Gardner as someone who is mentally healthy, even
as his life seems to fall apart around him. Throughout the course of the movie, his wife, Linda,
leaves him, he can't sell his products to make money, he gets evicted, he gets hit by a car, he gets his
own car taken away, he goes to jail for failure to pay tickets, and he is left to take care of his son
with no home, no money, and no paying job. However, throughout all of this, he is pursuing his own
happiness and remains optimistic that he will improve his situation. Everything that happens to him
motivates him to continue to work hard at his internship, and he is eventually offered a job as a

Analysis Of The Film The Pursuit Of Happyness Chris
The Pursuit of Happiness Essay In the film The Pursuit of Happyness Chris has many obstacles in
his life but he still managed to achieve many of his goals. Life for Chris was not easy considering
that he lost his wife, his job wasn't making his family enough money and he loses his house.
Experiencing obstacles can make someone give up, but not Chris he did not let misfortunes predict
his success. Throughout the film Chris demonstrated a multitude of different personality traits
including but not limited to being positive, determine and punctual. During the film The Pursuit of
Happyness Chris demonstrates the positive personality trait by keeping his composer for his son and
the outside world. When Chris would see or interact with others he pretended that he was just as
happy as the other individuals. Chis did not want people to know that he was struggling. Chris never
gave up, he kept his positive image at the place where he interned until he lived up to his positive
image. A moment in the film when Chris was demonstrating a positive personality trait was by him
staying positive during his challenges and always looking for the bright side of things. While all of
these challenges were occurring chris never complained showing that he stayed positive throughout
the film. Chris also stayed positive for his son by being strong and telling him to never let anyone
tell him what he can and can't do in his life which is what Chris did. Through all of these challenges

trait in the film. Chris was determined to be successful no matter what anyone told him. Chris was
determined when he got thrown in jail for not paying a parking ticket and he ran all the way to his
interview that he had the next morning. Chris arrived to the interview covered in paint and not in a

Examples Of Representation In The Pursuit Of Happyness
From the beginning of the film industry, individuals and communities–particularly those of
racialized and gendered minority groups–have been either underrepresented, misrepresented, or
both. Hollywood has been a massive suspect of misrepresentation and enabling/promoting socially
constructed misconstructions through mainstream films since its creation. Despite obvious progress
being made towards eliminating underrepresentation and misrepresentation and embracing true
cultural depictions, films often still foster stereotypes and misrepresentation both directly and
indirectly. One example of a film that does this is "The Pursuit of Happyness" starring Will Smith
and directed by Gabriele Muccino. From the beginning credits, "The Pursuit of Happyness" takes on
a more "multicultural" image as you see people of many races, ethnicities, and backgrounds as the
screen moves from scene to scene. I believe that they include this right off the bat to show that this
movie is not going to be the "normal" or "traditional" Hollywood movie that people often see
featured in theaters. The film definitely makes an effort in representing the life of a black American
man in a realistic way and we see a unique approach to that sphere with Chris. From the start, Chris
is established as the main character and protagonist. He is presented to the audience as someone
who is sophisticated and intelligent. He is well dressed and appears to be well off, at least until we

The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he
needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those
fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of
their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives
him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife's role to have a better life with his son. Yet,
this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the
University of California, points out that "Father's style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are
beginning to look more like mothers" (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the
family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her
husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner
seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how
Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that
Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks "did mom leave because of me?" (The
Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that
makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

he painting Amour et Psyché, enfants is an oil painting by William Adolphe created in 1890 and the

Courage & Perseverance in 'Pursuit of Happyness

  • 1. Courage In The Film, Pursuit Of Happyness, And WALL-E Courage, determination and perseverance all relate together. In my opinion you can't have one without the other, and you can relate these three things to any aspects of your life whether you are in a low point in your life or on top of the world. You won't have a life lesson where none of these three words are related to that life lesson, and that goes for both movies. Chris was taught to always fight for what you want and don't ever give up, and WALL–E fought for making earth a better place and he never gave up. In the movie Pursuit of Happyness, these three words are expressed I think as best as possible. My definition of courage is taking a bet on your bravery towards an event that would change your result. Harvard did an article on the steps of learning courage as a skill and using it in situations. One main step I saw in the article was "Setting Goals" which would be the reason that you are going to act courage's Chris had a lot of courage to live out on the street, while having to sell his scanners for some money and having to be an intern ... Will Smith portrays a hardworking father who is struggling to sale bone– density scanners to the local hospitals, while trying to make ends meet for his family. After his wife leaves, he is left to raise his 5–year–old son Christopher alone. Making it clear to those around him, it is obvious that he is among the working poor class and cannot meet the basic human needs (absolute), he can barely pay bills to keep his home, can hardly provide food, and has a rough time being able to keep his son in daycare. Jay proceed to tell Chris several times that he was not capable of completing the cube until Chris handed it back to him leaving Jay speechless. That particular scene demonstrated why people should not judge a book by its cover. During the entire film Dean Witter could not stress enough the importance of how tough the process would be in order to work for his company, even if someone got a perfect score on the exam their chances of being hired was still very slim. Chris exceeds those expectations and is later given the job. The film The Pursuit of Happyness told a story of a true American Hero. Chris Gardner should be an inspiration to those who have been faced with the same situations. All those sleepless nights trying to think of ways to make money, then moving from one homeless shelter to the next, and having to face his son everyday hoping that one day he would understand, is something no one in our society should have to go through in order to live in a world that is based off power and greed. The movie starts off showing the scenery – the Golden Gate Bridge, an American flag and the crowded busy street full of business people and the homeless. The camera then focuses on Chris Gardener and his son Christopher. Chris says throughout the movie the 6 stages of his life. It starts off with 'Riding the bus'. In 'Riding the bus' we learn that he lives in an apartment with his partner Glenda and son and that he sells portable bone density scanners to make a living, however they are quite hard to sell as they are seen as unnecessary – a luxury item. We also find out that his wife works very long and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stage 4 is 'Internship' and yes Chris got it and now starts his 6month internship. He gets told that generally the one who brings in the most money for the company gets hired. He starts off as very unappreciated as he was the one who was always asked to buy coffee and donuts for his bosses. He is also disadvantaged, as he has to leave the office at 4pm to pick up Christopher when everyone else stays back till 7pm. Later on he manages to get a meeting with Walter Ribbon that if it goes well he could get the company lots of money but he is forced to run an errand for his boss, which consequently makes him miss his interview with Walter. The next day he goes to Walter's house to apologise for missing the meeting. Walter invites him and Christopher to the NFL game. He tries to convince Walter to come to Dean Witter but Walter says no but Chris meets plenty of other people interested in Dean Witter. Chris had now sold all his scanners after 4 months, he felt like things were going okay. Until he reaches the 5th stage of his life – 'Paying taxes'. The government had sent him a letter saying that he was way overdue in paying his taxes and that they had taken the money he owed out of his bank account only leaving him with $21.33 left. • 9. American Dream in the Film, The Pursuit of Happyness Essay Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005) supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the other hand, supports and acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to believe, what a lot of people already believe, that it is a dream to become monetarily ... These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility of any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men are created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters, newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin to Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", which promote the American Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. The Pursuit Of Happyness Movie The film "The Pursuit Of Happyness", directed by Gabriele Muccino in 2006, depicted a responsible and hardworking salesman Chris Gardner struggles for life and try his best to improve the quality of his family environment. In spite of facing various difficulties, Gardner never gives up and he manages to pull through in sense of determination and finally obtained his " happiness" in his life. After watching the movie, I agree on the point that one must ready to sacrifice and works really hard in order to achieve his/her dream as there is no shortcut to success. In the following paragraphs, I will describe some interesting and meaningful scenes in the movie and explain how these scenes could actually bring some moral values or inspiration in ... Despite facing these hardships, Gardner still stays optimistic, plays jokes with his son and brings him to the playground, trying to make him happy. In real life, I like to stay optimistic even if facing problems as I know that there is nothing cannot be solved. On the other hand, a pessimistic person will only make things become more complicated due to their negative thinking and eventually bringing more problems. After six–month of training, Gardner is selected from 20 competitors to work as a stockbroker in Dean Witter due to his excellent performance during the intern. In one scene, Gardner is called up to the meeting room, and he is informed by the director manager Mr. Frohms as he is officially getting a position of a stockbroker in Dean Witter. Gardner is so happy as all the hard work he had done is finally paid off. In this part, he called his life as "Happiness". In conclusion, "The Pursuit Of Happyness" is not only a movie but it is a real situation in our life that in pursuing our dreams we must have gone through difficulties and sacrifice is needed for the dream to come true. Candide thinks that if he has lots of money then somehow his life will be so much better altogether, but Candide realizes that money is something that can go away just as fast as it came. Just because money can buy you a lot of things its not going to necessarily make your life a happier one. Money is something that can bring you joy but it isn't going to bring your true happiness. Joy is one of those things that's there for a little bit but it can be taken away very easily, true happiness on the other hand is something that stays with you. While Candide looks to materialistic things for happiness Chris uses the motivation to be a good father to his son to find his own happiness. Christopher Gardner: "You gotta trust me, all right?" Christopher: "I trust you." Christopher Gardner: "Cause I'm getting a better job" (Conrad, The Pursuit of Happyness). • 17. Pursuit Of Happyness Themes The movie "The Pursuit of Happyness", is about a movie based on the life of Chris Gardner, who was a salesman with a strong commitment to his family. As Gardner struggles to get ahead, he faces countless adversities and found strength in knowing that he is going through this to make a better life for his son. Although Gardner and his son became homeless, he had a desire to have a better life. He also managed to find moments to help shape and mode his son's education with teachable moments. People handle diversity in several different ways. I found similarities in the way Gardner handled his troubled life with his five–year–old son. Gardner found himself homeless a few times throughout the movie. The first time was the hardest seeing that he did not see it truly coming. He was staying at a motel dodging the manager until the manager sat his belongings outside the door and changed the locks. As he stood, there is disbelief, dumb founded as to what to do. He pulled it together to take his son to a nearby subway station. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, I needed to put my son in a daycare that I knew was not where I wanted him to be, but it was the only place I could afford at the time. This daycare was over crowded leaving the children unattended to do whatever they wanted. How Is Chris Gardner Untrue In The Pursuit Of Happyness The movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, produced by Lassiter, Blumenthal, Tisch, Black, and Smith, is loosely based on the true story of the struggle–filled life of Chris Gardner and his rise from near bankruptcy to becoming one of the greatest and richest stockbrokers in the San Francisco area, but contains many details that are completely untrue, most importantly the idea that he sold bone density scanners for a living. In the movie, Chris spends his life savings on a massive amount of bone density scanners, which he relies on entirely for his income every day. However, the machines do not sell as successfully as Chris hoped or expected, and he is left broke and struggling to support for his family, which consists of his wife and his son, Christopher, ... • 21. Movie Analysis: the Pursuit of Happyness Essays Based on the real life story of Chris Gardner, the Pursuit of Happyness looks at the crests and troughs in Chris' life on his way to becoming a stock broker, and eventually as everyone knows, a multi–millionaire. Will Smith played the role of Chris Gardner while Smith's son, Jaden Smith played Gardner's 7 or 8–year–old son. At one level, even though the movie is titled The Pursuit of Happyness (deliberately spelt wrong), it is pretty depressing. Yes, the movie is supposed to focus on the struggles of the main protagonist as he chases what seems like a chimerical dream. However, every time you think that things are going to get better, they only get even worse for Chris. As Chris and his son move from one slump to another, you begin to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To me that scene in the cab summed up the movie – try, try and try again. You have to determine all the moves for yourself and you have to get it right. That is how one pursues happiness, and Chris' life is a testimony to that. All this is voiced in one way or other when Chris talks to his son in the movie. In one scene when Chris is playing basketball with his son, he says he never made it as a basketball player and his son wouldn't make it either. And just immediately after, he tells the kid, "Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me." Or at another time he says, "You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Gardner". And that's what Chris does – he gets out there, works himself out and makes it – really makes it, giving hope to a lot of others like him. Not only does this scene voice that people should focus of the strength of trying despite their failures but it also depicts the love that parents have for their children can directly impact the children. This scene especially shows that was parents say and do can have a direct effect on the children. By Chris telling his son to never let anyone tell him he can not do something and that if he has a dream to go get it. • 23. Pursuit Of Happyness Book And Movie Comparison In The Pursuit of Happyness, both the movie and the story had to do with Christopher Gardner's struggles through his life to get a well paying job while he tries to take care of his young son. The director, Gabriele Muccino, made some choices that correlated pretty well with some of the events that happened in the story. For example, in both the film and and the real life story, according to Christophers Biography "Christopher Gardner never knew his father, and lived with his beloved mother, Bettye Jean." As a result of this, when Christopher Gardner had his own child with his wife before she left him, he wanted to raise his son without putting him through what he experienced as a child. An example of a similarity are that his wife took his son away from Christopher Garner for short period of time before Christopher had his son. Furthermore, as mentioned before, Chris Gardner grew up without a father and lived with his single mother. The reason Chris Gardner didn't have a dad in his life is kept the same pretty much in both the movie and the true story. In both the movie and the actual event, Chris Gardiner didn't have a father in his life because his father was abusive to him(Christopher Gardiner Biography) In addition, Christopher promised his young self that when he had his own kids, he was not going to mistreat them and that he was always going to be there and would not go anywhere and leave them. Another similarities between the movie and the real event was when Gardeners Girlfriend left him and their son. Gardiner and his girlfriend had started to run out of money to do anything, so instead of helping she went for the door and left. • 27. The Pursuit Of Happyness By Chris Gardner The Pursuit of Happyness In society there are still differences in classes such as higher class, middle class, and lower class. In sociology, we observed a film called The Pursuit Happyness, where we witnessed the struggles a father went through to succeed. Chris Gardner, who was played by Will Smith, is living in his apartment with his wife and his son. Due to their struggles, the mother walks out on and leaves Chris struggling alone with his son. In the film Chris Gardner applies for an unpaid internship for a competitive stockbroker company where out of twenty men, only one gets the job. While he is on his internship, we see the hardships of getting kicked out of his apartment to staying at a shelter home to then sleeping in a subway bathroom with his son. Viewing the movie through a sociological lens, The Pursuit of Happyness will be analyzed according to the major three sociological paradigms: structural functionalism, social conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. As the movie begins, a structural functionalist would identify the social institutions involved. One of the first institutions introduced is family. The spouse of Chris Gardner is not satisfied with the amount of income coming he is earning. It is clear that the institution of family is not meeting the needs of happiness and financial stability because of the low income. The institution of family interrelates with many others, such as the education institution and especially economic institution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Eulogy For The Pursuit Of Happyness Statement of Intent: In this piece of writing, the eulogy is about mourning the loss of Christopher Gardner at the funeral, in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness". His son, Christopher who speaks at his father's funeral showing the relationship between him and his father and also show the impact that Christopher has made on his son. This eulogy is set shortly after the end of the movie. Welcome everyone, we have all gathered here to mourn the loss of a good man, Christopher Gardner, my father. I am glad that I got the chance to have a father like him. I have always admired him, adored him. He was my role model and still is, I look up to him. He is the best dad in the world ever. I remember some time ago when my parents separated due to some financial issues, I'm not really sure though, but even in these times, my mom left me but my father stayed on my side. He never left me, he was there when I needed both my parents the most. He did everything in his power to keep me happy. I hope I was the son he wanted me to be, I hope I didn't disappoint him as his son. I will never forget the words he said to me that day, "If you want something, go get it, period". I remember when he didn't have a job and we were facing difficult times. I didn't realise the situation we were in, but now I've realised that to get through the night, we had to sleep in a public bathroom in a subway. Well, at that time it seemed like an adventure but now, not as much. But we got through those time together, the times that tried to separate us which did succeed on separating me from my mom. If it wasn't for him, if he didn't take that one more step, we would still be sleeping in public bathrooms and I wouldn't even be here talking to you guys. He has carried me throughout this painful but extremely helpful journey which has taught me many things. The most important out of all is the value of life and money. When I was younger, I didn't care how much money my parents had, I didn't care how much they spent on me. He had pretended that the bone density scanner was a time traveling device to get their minds off of things. The Need to Belong Essay It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every individual's inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don't find a sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self– alienation. Peter Skrzynecki's "Immigrant Chronicles" serves to highlight the basic fundamental desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored with Skrzynecki's poems "St Patrick's College", "Feliks Skrzynecki" and Gabrielle Muccino's 21st century film "Pursuit of Happyness". There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, "My father". Although this shifts overtime from "my" to "his", the use of the pronoun "his" reveals dislocation and disconnectedness between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired to belong, but couldn't find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of adhesiveness and connectedness. The mood of the film during these times were always sad and seemingly hopeless; the sound was always slow and solemn to represent all the various circumstances that he faced. Though things were challenging for him at night, he put on a brave face during the day and he did not allow those circumstances to weigh him down. With all the problems, he was facing during the night he was able to overcome it the next day. These actions were only possible with his optimistic spirit. With everything Chris and his son went through it would seem almost impossible to be optimistic in that situation. Optimism was a crucial factor in his successes. It brought him to a place where life was better, allowing him to overcome dire circumstances despite the doubts of others. When his wife left him, it seemed it would be impossible to survive with the internship that gave no salary. It seemed like their life would take a turn for the worse. However, the optimism and belief that Chris had in his abilities led to him finally being able to defeat the negative outlook of others on his choices. His positive outlook on his situation gave him the strength to beat the odds against him. His chances to get into the internship seemed very little, but he had hopes to make it in. • 57. Happiness In The Movie Pursuit Of Happiness Believing in self or self–trust could save someone's life and lead life into the right direction toward success. It did in "Pursuit of Happyness" where Mr. Gardner was losing control over his life until he trusted himself. Then his life started to turn around and when he believed in himself, everyone else believed in him and he succeed. Losing something of value can cause pain but when self–trust is lost, there is not much to do when you don't have self–trust. When self–trust is present, believing and achieving soon follow leading to success in life. When America wrote the Declaration of Independence, one of the most important, and well–known lines was "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Something that is interesting to look into is why Thomas Jefferson put "pursuit of happiness instead of just "happiness". The pursuit of happiness is about the journey, the good and the bad. Getting through the hard times knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel. If happiness is always present, there is no pursuit then happiness is suddenly taken away, and the person doesn't know how to pursuit it again due to no pursuit at the beginning of happiness. The actual pursuit to happiness is more important than the happiness itself due to the fact that happiness can be taken away at anytime but the pursuit to get back will always be there. This is shown through the movie "Pursuit of Happyness" and how self–trust is so important in someone's life. In the movie, Mr. Gardner loses his wife, his apartment, and almost loses his kid. He couldn't catch a break, everything that could go wrong went wrong did. What he didn't lose what his self–trust; that he could provide for little boy, be the father figure his kid needs, and still be on the pursuit of happiness when it seemed like happiness was a million miles away. The job he was applying for was a stockbroker and it was him and 20 other smart people fighting for it. Nobody thought he could do it, not even his own wife who left him shortly after. One example of self–trust in the movie is when Mr. Gardner and his son Christopher are playing basketball and talking then Mr. Gardner said "You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pursuit Of Happyness Character Analysis The 2006 movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" follows the story of Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith, and his five year old son, Chris, played by Jaden Smith. The other two characters who have a big role in the plot of the movie are Chris's wife, Linda, played by Thandie Newton, and Jay Twistle, played by Brian Howe. This film portrays Chris Gardner as someone who is mentally healthy, even as his life seems to fall apart around him. Throughout the course of the movie, his wife, Linda, leaves him, he can't sell his products to make money, he gets evicted, he gets hit by a car, he gets his own car taken away, he goes to jail for failure to pay tickets, and he is left to take care of his son with no home, no money, and no paying job. However, throughout all of this, he is pursuing his own happiness and remains optimistic that he will improve his situation. Everything that happens to him motivates him to continue to work hard at his internship, and he is eventually offered a job as a stockbroker. Chris displays a number of healthy behaviors through his actions in this film. He is as calm and realistic as possible in the situations he is put in. For example, when he realizes he and his son don't have a place to sleep because they've been evicted from their home, kicked out of a motel, and turned away at the shelter, he doesn't lose his composure and scare his son. Instead, he pretends they've gone back in time and have to "find a cave" to sleep in, making it a seemingly fun task ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I start to talk to some of these other men, they look a little tired but not a ton as of a few days without sleep. Then i found out why. We made a journey with 20,000 troops to new york. This was a fast moving army and I know now why they were tired. But when we got there on an island. When it got dark the fog settled in and rolled in very thick, couldn't even see me hands on my musket. In the standing, we were surrounded by british and had no way out. We then were helped by some fisherman and some small boats. Overnight all of us and the horse with equipment in the thickest fag right under their cannon's. SO I fell acting like I got shot by this pile of supplies and started shooting with what little things I still had. Then I looked over and saw another friend from the start and shooting next to me. Then when washington went face to face, I was considering running, so when the british faced washington, we got up with 4 guns between the two of us and got out thinking they would shoot and we would fall. • 67. Examples Of Representation In The Pursuit Of Happyness From the beginning of the film industry, individuals and communities–particularly those of racialized and gendered minority groups–have been either underrepresented, misrepresented, or both. Hollywood has been a massive suspect of misrepresentation and enabling/promoting socially constructed misconstructions through mainstream films since its creation. Despite obvious progress being made towards eliminating underrepresentation and misrepresentation and embracing true cultural depictions, films often still foster stereotypes and misrepresentation both directly and indirectly. One example of a film that does this is "The Pursuit of Happyness" starring Will Smith and directed by Gabriele Muccino. From the beginning credits, "The Pursuit of Happyness" takes on a more "multicultural" image as you see people of many races, ethnicities, and backgrounds as the screen moves from scene to scene. I believe that they include this right off the bat to show that this movie is not going to be the "normal" or "traditional" Hollywood movie that people often see featured in theaters. The film definitely makes an effort in representing the life of a black American man in a realistic way and we see a unique approach to that sphere with Chris. From the start, Chris is established as the main character and protagonist. He is presented to the audience as someone who is sophisticated and intelligent. He is well dressed and appears to be well off, at least until we get to know him on a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pursuit of Happyness Essay Social stereotypes and Happiness The Pursuit of Happyness 11/21/2012 Instructor: Prof. Kristin Little Author: Tareq Naseer Alsamarh Social stereotypes and happiness The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in the story wonders on "how to be happy?" He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife's role to have a better life with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that "Father's style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers" (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks "did mom leave because of me?" (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare Amour Et Psych, Enfants And The Pursuit Of Happyness he painting Amour et Psyché, enfants is an oil painting by William Adolphe created in 1890 and the motion picture "the Pursuit of Happyness" by Steven Conrad both effectively convey the power of love in a time of despair. In this paper, I will argue that both Amour et Psyché, enfants and "The Pursuit of Happyness" both communicate how the role of love plays into overcoming hardships. In the following paragraphs, we will consider the inspirations, scenery, techniques used to convey the mood and the stories behind these artworks that shed light in the depiction of love within and after sorrow. Furthermore, within these two pieces of painted and cinematic artwork, the inspirations that sparked their creation help you to understand that both of the creators are trying to interpret a different way of communicating love. Hence, this gives us a better understanding of what the pieces are trying to portray. Amour et Psyché enfants was inspired by a story written by Apuleius, Cupid and Psyche were one of Bouguereau's favorite myths, and he painted it quite often. He was inspired by the prominence of peace and love that prevails after enduring hardships. Likewise, he was also inspired by the innocence and purity of Jr which he symbolized in the style in which he painted.
