2. Use of trailer conventions How effectively does it use trailer conventions? (voiceover, non-linear, editing, one-liners etc) A voice over is used throughout this trailer, which illustrates what the film is about, naming the characters and who plays them. It also stops for dialogue in some parts of the film to be used. This trailer is non-linear, putting scenes together for comic effect to highlight this is the genre. For example, a clip of Ben Stiller’s character saying “Surprise” and then a clip from a different time in the film screaming. A slide transition is used to separate some scenes, to make it clear it’s going from showing the comedy to focusing on the comic ‘action’ part of this film “Did you find the files?” The voiceover also highlights the different parts of this film “…and they still have time to help the children” shows this film isn’t just about the ‘action’, there are other elements too.
3. What details this trailer convey to the audience about the film? The dialogue shows clearly this film is a comedy “I was bulimic” “You can read minds?” By including the key parts of this film (some of the funniest) this ensures people will want to watch it. Also, having the main actors named in the voiceover this makes it clear that it is a comedy, as all of these actors star in comedies.
4. Unique Selling Point The unique selling point of this film is the use of many popular actors, meaning more people are likely to watch it.
