2. The trailer begins with very quick flashes of the production companies behind
the production of the film. This only uses two seconds of the entire trailer time
however I feel it is just enough time to subliminally present the logo’s to the
audience. This is so they can instantly recognise and associate the images with
other successful films which also depicted the same production company logos
increasing the likelihood that they will want to view this film.
3. The trailer begins with dialogue
between the two main characters. One
of the character’s states that ‘I made a
promise to them that I’d never work
with you again’. This demonstrates that
some unknown drama between the
two has occurred before this moment
and time and can lead the audience to
wander as to how this came to pass.
The trailer uses Medium close up
shots on both the characters during
this scene so that the audience can
view the reactions and emotions of
the characters during their
conversation. Allows the audience
to observe the way the character on
the right appears to be more
dominant In the situation holding self
with shoulders back whereas the
other character is seen to be
avoiding eye contact and slouching.
4. The trailer incorporates a large amount of clips of the main character training. I feel
this has been done to emphasise the high levels of testosterone pumped action!
Showing instantly that this is a sport film and targeting an audience who enjoy the
sport, in this case it’s boxing. It is also used in conjunction with various scenes in
which the main character and his brother are arguing, I feel the use of training mixed
with this shows boxing as the main character’s ‘escape’ or way of releasing frustration
and tension with his brother. Outside of the film boxing is commonly advertised as
being good for stress relief. I feel also that a good sports genre teaser trailer should
have a lot of action within it. It prevents too much of the story being given away
while causing a rush of adrenaline that causes the audience to become hooked and
want to view the film to experience the climactic end to all of the training.
5. I feel the target audience for this film is most
definitely aimed towards the male population.
This conclusion came from the sheer amount off
violence that is demonstrated within the clip. Out
of the two sexes men always tend to be perceived
to be the more aggressive sex, this is through
fighting or just anger. I feel that by including this
in the trailer it helps to get the heart rate and the
adrenaline going. By triggering that primal
‘fighting’ state of mind in the male audience it
increases their excitability and likelihood that
they will view the film in order to quench their
thirst for more violence. The trailer also includes a
very brief clip of a woman in her underwear,
creating a provocative image for men and
targeting their feelings of lust drawing them
further into the film.
6. Sound
• The sound effects In the trailer are used exceptionally well. It uses a
very strong backing track that incorporates various sound effects
such as a skipping rope, the sound of a punch hitting a heavy bag
and boxing bell being rung. The track is very much’ in your face’
from the start working exceptionally well in conjunction with the
scenes of violence to create a powerful dramatic experience. The
tempo quickly increases, creating a similar effect to the visual clips
in raising the audiences heart beat. The tempo builds up towards a
climax and then stops and enters silence with a voice over. I feel this
is a great way to draw the audience as it builds up to a climactic
ending, and when it suddenly stops and does not provide this the
audience will feel the need to see the film to witness the climax for
themselves.
