Native Americans had been able to do what they wanted until Christopher Columbus "founded"
America in 1492 (stated by History.com) , which then, everything changed for them. The native's
lives have been affected in the past, present, and will be affected in the future. They have been
treated unfairly by the Americans, which has caused their culture to decrease over the years. Native
American's culture, history, and daily life have been affected by European migration into the
Americas. Native Americans have had the most culture and individualism compared to some other
place heard of. They have had many dances, hunting techniques and practices to help them strive
as a whole. For example, the Ghost Dance was used to have the "gods" kill all the white people
and bring back the buffalos since they relied so heavily on them for food, clothing, and material for
whatever else they needed(stated by Kathy Weiser) . They wouldn't waste anything and didn't take
advantage of wildlife. The natives even helped the pilgrims with food, shelter, and clothing...show

Today, there are about 330 Native American reservations and in 2014 there were 2% of the total
population in the US was Native Americans (stated by U.S. Census Bureau) . In 2060, it is believed
that there will be 2.4% of Native Americans in the US population. The Native American culture and
people will hopefully continue to grow so they can share their culture and not be forgotten and
mistreated again. Native American's culture, history, and daily life have been affected by European
migration into the Americas. The natives have been mistreated and have almost completely had their
culture taken away if they wouldn't have fought for themselves. Native Americans are strong people
that deserve to live their lives however they want, as long as it's not

Native American History Essay
Popular culture has shaped our understanding and perception of Native American culture. From
Disney to literature has given the picture of the "blood thirsty savage" of the beginning colonialism
in the new world to the "Noble Savage," a trait painted by non–native the West (Landsman and
Lewis 184) and this has influenced many non native perceptions. What many outsiders do not see is
the struggle Native American have on day to day bases. Each generation of Native American is on a
struggle to keep their traditions alive, but to function in school and ultimately graduate. The long
history between Native American and Europeans are a strained and bloody one. For the time of
Columbus's subsequent visits to the new world, native culture has...show more content...
A more pressing matter is that of the history in the classroom. With the one sided history being
instructed to Native students bring a message that "Their history does not matter," alienation begins
to form and all motivation soon leaves the students (Laura). History class is not the only issue among
students; the nation's standardized test also leaves Native students behind their peers. Many
questions are "Eurocentric and culturally bias" resulting in many students who have grown in a
traditional customs unable to answer the questions (Robertson). Many school curricula does not
build on the students strength of the student, it is only if the strength and skill is of the dominate
culture that it will get attention (Landsman and Lewis 182). Many native parents are reluctant for
their children to be taught by non native teachers. The experiences through boarding schools has
caused generation to have negative thought of formal education has influence current attitudes to
today's education system and teachers. Non native teachers are also at fault for the reluctance of
education. Teacher's who do not try to learn the culture of their native students never learn of many
customs that do not appear in European culture. Eye culture and participation in class are expected
in schools by teachers. When teachers do not receive the jesters they believe the student is being

Essay On Native Americans
Before the Europeans reached the new world, there was a culture already spreading in the area. This
was a culture of Native Americans with many different tribes, and with each tribe came a special
language. A few in the Southwest were the Apache, the Navajo, the Comanche, and the Piman. The
Apache and the Navajo spoke a language called Athabaskan. The Comanche and the Piman spoke
another language called Uto–Aztecan. In the Southeast region, there was Chickasaw, the Seminole,
the Catawba, and the Cherokee all spoke different languages. The Chickasaw and Seminole spoke
Muskogean, the Catawba spoke Siouan, and finally the Cherokee spoke Iroquoian. The Native
Americans people expressed themselves in many ways that were foreign to new settlers. Some of
the ways came in a form of symbols, art, and religion. Native Americans used symbols to express
themselves with totem poles, teepees, peace pipes, and dream catchers. The totem pole was "a

Native Americans did not settle in one place, they spread out and explored. Some of the main
regions where the natives lived are the northwest coast, the plains, and the southwest. In the
Northwest coast, the Native Americans were found in Oregon, Washington, and even as far as
Alaska. Some of the tribes in the region are Tsimshian, Haida, Kwakiutl, Makah, Nez Perce,
Nisqualli, Nootka, Quinault, Puyallup, Salish, Snohomish, Spokane, Shuswap, Swinomish, Tlingit,
and Bella Coola. These Indians were considered to be rich compared to the others. They were seen
as rich because of the abundant food supply and their sturdy shelters. These Northwest Coast Indians

Native Americans Essay
Native Americans culture is unique for many ways. Living on the reservations they were in touch
with nature as well as their ancestors. Native Americans are disputed in the country, diverse among
tribes, culturally mixed, and recognize their own political stands (Bordewich, 1996, p. 71). These
have changed over the years, but before the reconstruction of the Native Americans the people were
identifiable and knew who they were.
Before the Europeans came and changed their living they felt one with the land. They believe the
land was not to be owned by anyone. The Wakon'da, a god, who in there words related to all things,

Native American movements have helped, but put them in a deviant stage. Even though the Native
Americans see them as spiritual and done for respect the majority see it as a protest and them
wanting to go to war. There have been many movements: Revitalization movement, Handsome Lake
movement, Ghost Dance movement, and the Red Power movement. Even though all of the
movements are important the Ghost Dance was one of the most significant to the Native America.
There were two Ghost Dance movements the second was much larger. Not only did it involve the
West Coast tribes, but also the Great Basin tribes. By the second movement it had gone farther east
to the Plain tribes. This movement was to show how sick the Native Americans were getting by the
way they were being treated. They directed the movement towards the white leaders. It blamed the
European invasion and the Americans for the miserable state of affairs on the reservations and for
the destruction of traditional Native Americans living (Nagel, 1996, p.159). This movement ended
in a massacre at Wounded Knee killing several hundred men, women, and children (Simo, 1991, P.
24). Native Americans tried to step outside the boundaries of the white Americans or the majority of
the nation of the time, to make them go around the nations rules.

Native American Education Essay
The modern American society is best defined by its education. The "American dream" is founded
on going to school, getting a good job, and becoming successful. Ironically, the actual native peoples
of this country are actually the least likely to attain this dream. The largest obstacle they face is lack
of proper education. The standard educational practices being used for the instruction of Native
American peoples is not effective. There are many pieces to this road–block, and many solutions.
This can be rectified by having more culturally aware teachers and parents, and by teaching the
general population more about the Native American cultures. Many Native Americans do not
graduate from high school. This makes finding an ideal,...show more content...
Where planning ahead and thinking of future events is such a commonplace value to most
Euro–Americans, it is one foreign to Native peoples' tradition. They are taught to live "in the
now", and to be thankful for what they have, while they have it. To many of the more traditional
native peoples, the excessive planning on modern society's part is incomprehensible. This makes
even the idea of the "American dream" one hard to fully realize. There are a lot of things that help
improve this situation, one of them being an increased awareness of the societal differences, and
what can be done about it. One of the biggest problems, which is a lack of information about the
educational system in general, can be easily resolved: by teaching the students' families about it.
Brochures and posters would be a way to start, ones created specifically with the Native peoples in
mind. Another great step would be more parent–teacher conferences. The family needs to understand
how important this is in society, and what exactly their child can gain from it, and how important it
is to be involved in their child's school life. It would also be a venue in which both parties could
work together to understand the student more, and help bridge the culture gap. This is where action
needs to be decided upon, like routines that would be beneficial to the students learning. On the other

Essay about Native American
Native American
The story of the pilgrims and Native Americans was always taught in elementary school during the
Thanksgiving holiday. The teachers frequently called Native Americans "Indians". It never crossed
my mind that the word "Indians" was the politically incorrect way of labeling Native Americans
until a student shouted it out to the teacher in 5th grade. It finally clicked in my mind that Indians
are people from India not America.
Native Americans were always portrayed to be accepting culture when confronted with the
Europeans during Thanksgiving. In elementary school, everything is happy. I don't even remember
learning American history. Columbus sailed the ocean blue, thought he was in India, and started the
trend of...show more content...
To Europeans, they were considered "primitive"; Native Americans were not up to the standards of
the settlers.
It's interesting to think of Native Americans to be the "founders" of America, but who are the
founders of European nations? Australia has Indigenous people, America has Native Americans,
what does Great Britain have? I can never think of a time when Britain had a "primitive" culture.
There were the cavemen, but the time of cavemen to the birth of Jesus seems to be lost.
Federal Indian Identification Policy – M. Annete Jaimes
From the reading, I have learned the oppression of American Indians by the Federal Government. I
was surprised to read that Native Americans called themselves American Indians. In my mind, the
term American–Indian refers to a person born in India and has now become an American citizen. The
question of identity may be harder to answer with such a complication.
The blood quantum mechanism used to identify American Indians works as an opposite compared to
how the government labeled Blacks. The federal government identified those of at least half Indian
blood to have the "benefits". Local governments prevented Blacks or half–blacks, or quarter–blacks,
or etc from civil right liberties. If you looked tan to the least, you were considered Black. It's
interesting to notice such a paradox within the American

Native American Tribe Essay
There are hundreds of Native American tribes and millions of people that are within North America
that identify themselves as Native Americans. Each tribe has their own unique customs, language,
and myths. However, within the confines of this paper I will take a broad view with regards to
Native American customs and traditions from a small sample of tribes that were observed prior to
the vast expansion of colonizing the west. The Hidatsa people were one such tribe along with a select
few other tribes in the Great Plains region of North America that was observed in extensive detail.
Their villages and tribal organization consisted of a "chief", this term meaning anyone who is
designated by his authority at a particular moment that is recognized...show more content...

bundles. Warfare was highly encouraged within the tribes and males hoped to show publicly their
military accomplishments. The members of the tribe that were asked to remain in the village to help
protect women, children and the elderly were praised just as high as if they returned to the village

Where planning ahead and thinking of future events is such a commonplace value to most Euro–Americans, it is one foreign to Native peoples' tradition. They are taught to live "in the now", and to be thankful for what they have, while they have it. To many of the more traditional native peoples, the excessive planning on modern society's part is incomprehensible. This makes even the idea of the "American dream" one hard to fully realize. There are a lot of things that help improve this situation, one of them being an increased awareness of the societal differences, and what can be done about it. One of the biggest problems, which is a lack of information about the educational system in general, can be easily resolved: by teaching the students' families about it. Brochures and posters would be a way to start, ones created specifically with the Native peoples in mind. Another great step would be more parent–teacher conferences. The family needs to understand how important this is in society, and what exactly their child can gain from it, and how important it is to be involved in their child's school life. It would also be a venue in which both parties could work together to understand the student more, and help bridge the culture gap. This is where action needs to be decided upon, like routines that would be beneficial to the students learning. On the other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about Native American Native American The story of the pilgrims and Native Americans was always taught in elementary school during the Thanksgiving holiday. The teachers frequently called Native Americans "Indians". It never crossed my mind that the word "Indians" was the politically incorrect way of labeling Native Americans until a student shouted it out to the teacher in 5th grade. It finally clicked in my mind that Indians are people from India not America. Native Americans were always portrayed to be accepting culture when confronted with the Europeans during Thanksgiving. In elementary school, everything is happy. I don't even remember learning American history. Columbus sailed the ocean blue, thought he was in India, and started the trend of...show more content... To Europeans, they were considered "primitive"; Native Americans were not up to the standards of the settlers. It's interesting to think of Native Americans to be the "founders" of America, but who are the founders of European nations? Australia has Indigenous people, America has Native Americans, what does Great Britain have? I can never think of a time when Britain had a "primitive" culture. There were the cavemen, but the time of cavemen to the birth of Jesus seems to be lost. Federal Indian Identification Policy – M. Annete Jaimes From the reading, I have learned the oppression of American Indians by the Federal Government. I was surprised to read that Native Americans called themselves American Indians. In my mind, the term American–Indian refers to a person born in India and has now become an American citizen. The question of identity may be harder to answer with such a complication. The blood quantum mechanism used to identify American Indians works as an opposite compared to how the government labeled Blacks. The federal government identified those of at least half Indian blood to have the "benefits". Local governments prevented Blacks or half–blacks, or quarter–blacks, or etc from civil right liberties. If you looked tan to the least, you were considered Black. It's interesting to notice such a paradox within the American Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Native American Tribe Essay There are hundreds of Native American tribes and millions of people that are within North America that identify themselves as Native Americans. Each tribe has their own unique customs, language, and myths. However, within the confines of this paper I will take a broad view with regards to Native American customs and traditions from a small sample of tribes that were observed prior to the vast expansion of colonizing the west. The Hidatsa people were one such tribe along with a select few other tribes in the Great Plains region of North America that was observed in extensive detail. Their villages and tribal organization consisted of a "chief", this term meaning anyone who is designated by his authority at a particular moment that is recognized...show more content... (Bowers, A.W., 1992) The village members that planned on searching out their enemies could be seen giving feasts to the older men for advice, checking their riding equipment and ceremonial bundles. Warfare was highly encouraged within the tribes and males hoped to show publicly their military accomplishments. The members of the tribe that were asked to remain in the village to help protect women, children and the elderly were praised just as high as if they returned to the village victories from Get more content on HelpWriting.net
