Of Mice And Men Relationship Between
George And Lennie Essay
Crafting an essay on the relationship between George and Lennie in "Of Mice and Men" is
undoubtedly a challenging task. The intricacies of their bond, the symbiotic nature of their
companionship, and the underlying complexities that shape their interactions require careful
analysis and thoughtful exploration.
One must navigate through the layers of Steinbeck's narrative, delving into the psychological
dimensions of each character and their evolving dynamic. The challenge lies in deciphering the
nuances of George's protective instincts and Lennie's dependency, understanding the impact of
their shared dreams, and examining the external forces that threaten to disrupt their fragile
equilibrium.
Moreover, it demands a keen awareness of the socio-economic backdrop against which the
narrative unfolds, as this context plays a pivotal role in shaping the characters' choices and
limitations. Balancing character analysis, thematic exploration, and literary context poses a
substantial challenge for the essay writer.
To effectively communicate the essence of George and Lennie's relationship, one must
synthesize textual evidence, interpretive insights, and critical perspectives. Crafting a compelling
thesis that captures the essence of their bond, and substantiating it with a coherent and well-
structured argument, adds another layer of complexity.
Ultimately, successfully navigating this essay topic requires not just a familiarity with the source
material, but a profound understanding of human relationships, literary analysis, and the ability
to articulate nuanced ideas coherently.

Japanese Popular Rock Music And Japanese Culture
Japanese Popular Rock Music
Japanese popular music and Japanese popular culture is heavily influenced by
Western culture through similar characteristics such as instruments, rhythm, style,
and language. When listening to J pop songs, most people tend to think that they
might have heard these songs before despite ever listening to those songs. This
familiarity is due to the fact that J pop songs derive from many aspects of the
Western music style. The individuality could come from the arrangement of songs,
voice of singers, differences in language, or some combination of the three. All J
pop songs have a common characteristic of individuality and familiarity signifying
that they are similar to existing music, but these characteristics are also dissimilar in
any ways. J Pop is a genre that is both a unique yet familiar genre of music that many
people of different cultures can enjoy.
The Eastern Asian music stylings of J pop often merge with musical stylings of
American music. An example of a J pop music artist is Nano, a bilingual J Pop/J
Rock artist, who created songs such as No Pain No Game and Now or Never from
the album N . Both songs exhibit uses electric guitar, bass, a drum set and lead
vocals, which are also used in the Rock genre. The songs also uses synthesized or
electric music, which comes from most Western Pop music. Nano also uses a
multitude of English lyrics as well as Japanese lyrics in her songs, as many J pop
artists do. Nano s strong Rock like
The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth
Research Paper:
The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth
Lucas Eckert
PSE4UO
Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member
of society. Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children.
They have a tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to
be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s
personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the
individual becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also
posses significant influence over their children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether
or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play, and they can
greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can
either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport.
This depends on the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement
(Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways by which
parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the
positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will
also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents
involvement in the athletes career.
Pressure to Participate The most basic form of influence the parent possesses over the
The Meat Of Well s Story
The meat of Well s story takes place in the year 802, 701 AD. There is but one
physical setting (place) for the entire novel, yet three temporal settings (time) are
utilized throughout the course of the novel. The book begins in late 19th century
London, specifically, in the Time Traveller s abode in Richmond. The dining room,
smoking room, and laboratory are the only rooms seen and are not fully described, as
they are only the setting for the narrative frame. The visitants gather in the smoking
room, seating themselves around the Time Traveller.
The most important setting, the time and place in which most of the story takes
place, is still the site of the Time Traveller s house and the area surrounding it, but

After eight days in the future, he returns and tells his story. Although he has peculiar
flowers gifted by Weena, his compeers do not believe his story. Intrigued, the
narrator, Mr.Hillyer, goes back to see the Time Traveller, only to see him get back in
his time machine and vanish. In addition, the narrator mentions that it has been three
years since the Time Traveler has disappeared, and they have not seen him since.

The central conflict in the novel is the Time Traveller s endeavors to comprehend the
post human society and its constituents. At first, the future seems like a Socialist
utopia but transforms into a Capitalist dystopia. The bulk of the book is spent with
the Time Traveller investigating the true nature of human civilization in this future.
His final theory, after coming up with several wrong ones over the course of the
novel, is that the Eloi and the Morlocks are both descendants of Victorian
humankind. The Eloi are the descendants of the bourgeois capitalists that own the

workers who, having to work to survive, kept getting exiled out of the sunlight by the
bourgeois until they had no choice but to live underground and adapt to the darkness.

Essay Perceptions on Belonging
Perceptions of Belonging in our society
We belong ... like fish in water. We re in our environment. This quote from the New
York Times shows the perception of belonging as the idea about connecting to a
place, person, group or a community. Feliks Skrzynecki by Peter Skrzynecki, I m
nobody! Who are you? by Emily Dickinson and The Rabbits by John Marsden Shaun
Tan show the concept of belonging as being contrasted towards the New York Times
quote, showing the alienation and non existent connection towards it. These texts
have furthered my understanding on the perceptions of belonging by recognising the
different concepts of connection to people, places and things.

Who are you? by Emily Dickinson shows the connection towards the society, the
people and herself. In the poem, the poet portrays herself as a Nobody and
playfully asks the responder Who are you? . Dickinson follows up by adding Are
you nobody too?/Then there is a pair of us! this helps Dickinson unite with the
responder adding the sense of belonging to one another. In the last stanza, the poet
shows how oppressive the somebodies crowd can be Don t tell!/They d advertise
you know? This also shows the connection that Dickinson has with being a nobody,
and the ability to stand out from the crowd. How dreary to be somebody! shows
how the poet loves to be a nobody, and feels like she belongs. Dickinson frequently
uses rhythmic dashes to interrupt the flow, and engage the responder to pause to
think and feel about the line. The poet also uses juxtaposition in the line How public
like a Frog These combining elements are not typically considered together, and, thus,
more powerfully conveying its meaning. The poem shows that Dickinson is quite
content with not connecting with the somebodies and that the poet enjoys being an
outsider to the rest of the world and feels like she belongs to her own little place.
In the picture book, The rabbits by John Marsden Shaun Tan it shows the perspective
of belonging as connecting to the indigenous Aboriginal land, people and culture. The

A Short Note On The And Its Effects On The Circulatory...
Q.1
Hypovolemic shock is a decreased volume of blood in the circulatory system,
which caused by fluid and/or blood loss (Garretson Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48). This
volume depletion in Mr Jensen s case could have occurred as a result of his
traumatic injury and surgery. As a result of the fluid and/or bloodloss the body can
enter into different phases of the hypovolemic shock, including initial,
compensatory, progressive and refractory (Garretson Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48).
Once the loss of fluid/blood volume exceeds 750ml, a decrease in cardiac output
and blood pressure occur. For this reason, the parasympathetic nervous system is
mediated to shunt the blood towards the vital organs. This also explains the
impaired blood circulation in Mr Jensen s right leg that is cool to touch (Garretson
Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48). Mr Jensen s post operative assessment data such as blood
glucose level of 17mmol/L, heart rate 107, respiratory rate 24 BPM and decreased
urinary output reflect his body psychological response to stress, induced by the
surgical procedure (Gordon Craft, 2011, pp. 1047 1051). This resulted in a major
trauma, which activated the metabolic stress response at the hypothalamus and
sympathetic nervous system (SNS). For this reason, the adrenal gland was mediated
by the SNS to release adrenaline and noradrenaline. Furthermore, the hypothalamus
activated the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis to release hormones, which resulted
in an increased level of cortisol,
Upper Class
The upper class were 10% of the population and lived a good life, but also
depended on loyalty. The feudal system is made out of many classes, and the most
privileged class was the upper class. The upper class is made out of nobles,
including the king and his vassals. They got most of the benefits from the work that
serfs did. Noblewomen had the job of looking after the household. When the Lord
was gone, his role was taken over by his wife. She would make sure that their
children learned manners and etiquette. The food that Nobles eat included beef, pork,
goat, lamb, rabbit, poultry and fish compared to the ones that serfs ate, which
included bread, porridge, vegetables, and some meat. Nobles had these benefits, but if

Workers work for whatever their local lord needs, having little to no rights overall.
Serfs are bound to the land that they work on, having almost no control over their
own lives. They aren t allowed to be traded but they aren t allowed to leave their
land, either. They serve nobles and pay taxes to their lord (Richardson). A worker
would owe the local lord obligations the same way the knight would owe his lord
obligations. The workers would owe loyalty, obligations, and allegiance to their
local lord, just as the local ward owed allegiance to the king. The local lord also
has obligations to follow, making it a fair trade. In exchange for the local lord s
protection, a group of peasants agreed give him supplies and perform work, such
as farming for him.The lord would also give the serf right to take resources from
his land, such as water, and to use his land to make food and a home. If the serf
leaves, the serf also lost a way to feed themselves and gave up their lord s military
and legal protection. They also lose the right to get water in the wells/springs and
to gather wood from his forests (Nardo 25). If the serf escapes for long enough
without being found, he will become a freeman, meaning that he isn t bound to the
land anymore. Serfs were treated poorly and were in charge of doing most of the
work, having little to no rights at
The Pros And Cons Of College Textbooks
Every year, students across campus stare in disgust at the college textbook list. At
some point, every student has a bad encounter with the horrors of having to obtain
the bound pieces of dead tree. Textbooks are very complicated when it comes to
purchasing them, the prices seem to fluctuate as well, either costing normal money
or an arm and a leg. Overall, I believe that college textbookshave skyrocketed in price
and has the potential to hurt everyone involved in the process.
In this project, I hope to focus on the difficulties in obtaining textbooks.
Specifically, I want to discuss the ever rising and ridiculous prices. The personal
experiences of my fellow students and of students around the country are the main
driving resources of my research. I will examine their own experiences purchasing
and obtaining textbooks and what sort of effect this process had on their college
experiences. I hope to analyze book companies and book stores related to our own
campus to discover the options laid out for students. I also hope to discover different
statistics concerning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Home Education Vs. Public Schools Essay
For so many decades in most countries around the world, education was offered to
children in formal areas allocated for this purpose. These areas were mainly schools
and colleges. A certain number of hours were assigned every day to the education in
which the children would leave home in the morning for schoolspend the whole day
being taught in a series of classes as well as co curricular activities. On a normal
school day, children would be taught different subjects that the school offers have
some time allocated for physical education and sports and also have breaks in
between for meals. Recently, however, homeschoolingis on the rise in most parts of
the world. For so many years this system of education was a reserve for the royals
who were not allowed to freely mingle with children of other citizens.
Homeschooling also known as home education refers to the education of the children
inside their homes as opposed to a formal setting of a private or public school. This
practice is on the rise with statistics showing that today more than two million kids
are taught at home. Although many scholars support education that is offered in
formal settings such as schools, homeschooling has been an effective alternative to a
cheaper more wholesome method of educating children. This practice has immense
positive effects on a child physically, mentally and socially with very dismal
differences in terms of a child performance when compared to education offered in

Industrial America from the American Steel Industry to the Early 1970 s
The steel industry has been profoundly important to the development of USA by its
value of output, input to the American manufacturing industries and in terms of the
extent of its employment in the past. It s been important because of its political clout
of its corporations and finally it s been important for strategic reasons.
Background to the American Steel Industry
The industry dates from mid 19th century when it grew out of the iron industry. There
was huge demand for steel following the end of the Civil War and the building of the
great trans continental railway. The industry centred in Pittsburgh where the classic...

Appalachian deposits of iron ore become very much depleted and development of
ore deposits to the West of Lake Superior was accelerated. The Mesabi Range ores
has been worked by Rockefeller since 1892. Open cast production kept costs low, as
did the great and advances in ore carriers which transported the ores east wards
through the Great Lakes. Technological advance allowed lower grade taconite ores to
be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills
further east.
Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first
half of the 20th century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel
was now needed for rails, but structural steel became increasingly important as did
rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for tinplate and also very significant
amounts were demanded by the transport industries.
Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal
integration and merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce
competition and to increase the scale of enterprises. Some companies became
involved in vertical integration, being particularly anxious to secure their supplies of
coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous
Wuthering Heights Devil Quotes
A Devil Stalks Wuthering Heights Every now and then there are people who are so
evil, that they appear to be a devil on Earth. These people walk around harming all
those around them and cause chaos wherever they go. Many authors include a
character who is so evil and cruel they appear inhuman, almost demonic, and in some
cases are a devil. Such characters include Adeline March, Sauron, and The Joker. The
devil that stalks Wuthering Heightsin Emily BrontГ« s Wuthering Heights is none
other than Heathcliff. By showing Heathcliff as evil, BrontГ« demonstrates that
Heathcliff is an actual devil. BrontГ« quietly hints to the reader that Heathcliff is
not human through the way he effects those around him. When Nelly sees Hareton
for the first time in years, she quickly discovers that Hareton is not as she expected.
Upon seeing Nelly, Hareton throws a stone at her and launches a string of
curses....delivered with [practiced] emphasis, and [which] distorted his baby features
into a shocking expression of malignity (BrontГ« 109). When Nelly left Hareton he
was still an innocent baby and after her leaving, he has been left to Heathcliff s care.

When Hareton falls out of Hindley s grasp, Heathcliff is lucky enough to be

happy about saving Hareton, Heathcliff s face shows the intensest anguish at
having made himself the instrument of thwarting his own revenge (75). Nelly
adds that she feels had it been dark..he would have tried to remedy the mistake by
smashing Hareton s skull on the steps (75). Heathcliff being willing to kill an
innocent child just to get revenge on Hindley shows just how consumed he is by
the idea of revenge and how evil he truly is. Obsession with revenge is a common
trait of devils and Heathcliff s obsession with it signifies him being a
William Arthur s Court And Monty Python And The Holy
Grail
Most Arthurian novels involve a violent conflict with multiple knights. In the cases of
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court and Monty Python and the Holy Grail
violence is taken to the extreme to show how knights are allowed to get away with
killing innocent people as long as they are from Camelot. This idea is expressed
multiple times throughout the book and movie and used in a rather humorous way. In
the book, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur
s Court, a few instances occur where
violence is overdone. One is when Hank is dueling Sir Sagramore in front of
everyone. Hank isn t skilled with the sword, so instead of learning how to use it or
finding a new weapon, he uses a lasso. This is comical because a lasso is what a
cowboy uses to catch and tie up his cattle. The use of the lasso in this situation
brings Sir Sagramore to the same ontological level as animals while also putting
himself higher on the ontological hierarchy. After he defeats Sir Sagramore with
the lasso the other knights jump in and try to fight Hank as well. This does not go
well for them as they are also defeated. The only thing that can stop such a silly
weapon is Merlin who takes it away from Hank. The knights think they can finally
kill Hank until he pulls out a revolver and shoots Sir Sagramore in the head. One
would think everyone would be upset and a bit shocked, but no one does anything
about it. Instead of being mad that the knightly code of honor was violated, everyone
just lets Hank
A Change Of Heart About Animals By Jeremy Rifkin
Throughout the course of history, many people have used the power of language to
manipulate audiences to gather support for their personal agenda or gain. Donald
Trump speech is an example of using the power of language to manipulate people.
President Donald Trump told about two dozen chief executives of major U.S.
companies that he plans to bring many millions of jobs back to the United States.
When it comes to the topics of bringing jobs back people will readily agree. In the
article A Change Of Heart about Animals , Jeremy Rifkin, author and president of the
foundation of economic trends in Washington D.C, suggests in a seemingly, unbiased
fashion, that animals are more like us than we had ever imagined (Rifkin). With the

According to some philosophers and animal behaviorists, animals are capable of
self awareness and individualism. Rifkin concludes that there is a new study in
the Washington National Zoo that orangutans can t explore their part of their
bodies with a mirror. Rifkin is arguing a statement where it says that animals can t
have a sense of their mortality. And that they can t comprehend when they are
going to die. Rifkin believes that this statement is false he used an example of a
research in the Washington National Zoo to make people believe that this is a false
statement about animals. Although many may agree with Rifkin to a point, I
cannot accept his overall conclusion because the examples he gave do not define
that animals can comprehend when they are going to die. I know this because in
paragraph 10 it says, An orangutan named Chantek who lives at the Atlanta Zoo
used a mirror to groom his teeth and adjust his sunglasses. Furthermore, Rifkin
discusses the cognitive abilities of animals, by informing us that learning is passed
on from parent to offspring. Rifkin says that most animals engaged all kind of
learning, Rifkin in paragraph 15 wants to make us get in our emotions and he says,
So what does all of this portend for the way we treat our fellow creatures? Rifkin
believes that a lot of animals are in the most inhumane
Leadership Theory Of Leadership And Leadership Model
Introduction
There are so many dimensions and concept to the very idea of what is leadership,
how to define leadership, what traits and characteristics makes a great leader, and
what is the purpose of leadership. It can be about perspective and whom it is that
defines what makes a leader because in some environments the term leadership and
management are interchangeable. A leader is more than the authority figurehead
that controls the decision making and direction of a group of people. According to
Fairholm Fairholm (2009) a leader will create a culture of trust, progress, and
growth that enables the workers/followers to grow mature and develop to their
fullest potential and at the same time to develop the leader skills (Fairholm Fairholm,
2009, p. 2).
The three leadership models selected were Healthcare Leadership Model, Servant
Leadership Model, and Adaptive Leadership Model and the selected topic of this
paper is Leadership behind Prison Walls. The prison milieu is a place where
security is a top priority and to ensure that it remains at the forefront of everyone s
mind then adequate leadership must be in place to guide and develop workers. The
terms leadership and management are often blurred and used to mean the same thing
the supervision of workers. The endless arsenal of leadership research has done much
to identify characteristics and traits while investigating historical leadership figures to
discover what allowed them to rise into their position of
Beyonce s Pretty Hurts
The Beauty Within
The messages of Beyonce s Pretty Hurts and Christina Aguilera s Beautiful , were
both astonishing. The messages of the songs are often overlooked because of the
images the artists portray on society. The two songs contained an ample amount of
information to take away, and to use in everyday life. The two songs opened my
eyes to how people who are different feel, and how they can be beautiful in their
own way, even if it hurts them in the long run. The two messages should be able to
touch anybody, and inspire people to change, no matter what or who you are.

both of the artists are trying to say that when you try to alter yourself to be

feel as if there is something wrong with them, when in all reality, they have the
same amount of beauty as anyone else, inside and out. I also think that the two
artists are trying to say that everyone has insecurities, and despite our insecurities
we are all still beautiful. I also think the message they are trying to convey is that no

A Brilliant Madness Vs A Beautiful Mind Essay
A) The film A Beautiful Mind (2001) and the documentary A brilliant madness
(2002) had many differences. The film was a much more romanticized version of
John Nash s life and left some details out from his life. The film never mentioned
that Nash had a son out of wedlock. The actress that plays Alicia in the movie does
not speak with a Spanish accent. In A brilliant madness (2002), Alicia says that she

Burial Rites By Hannah Kent
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent was published in 2013 in Sydney. This reveals the
book is new which then implies that the topic is relatively modern, new and set in
Australia due to Hannah Kent being a young Australian writer. These
presumptions are both entirely false as the book is set in Iceland in the 1800s.
Looking at the cover of the book it does not correctly show you these facts or the
story line. The genre of Burial Rites is quite difficult to narrow down as it is a
mixture of many. The main genres are historical text, murder mystery, gothic
romance and feminist revisionism. Feminist revisionism is especially shown
through the book. This is demonstrated through the roles of the women in the
families and the fact that they have just as many roles and jobs as the males in the
family. Even though there is the stereotypical view of men being the boss of the
house and conducting business affairs, women still have to complete jobs which
may be seen as a man s job. Obviously, it is a historical text as it is set in the early
1800 s, but the other genres are more obscure to recognise. Perhaps Burial Rites is a
murder mystery, but if so, only slightly. The murder mystery is shown through how
Agnes accompanied the murder, not so much who conducted the murder as we
already know this fact. Hannah Kent has focused the book more on a whydunnit than
a whodunit, because it makes the book increasingly interesting and believes there is
further mystery in the characters rather that

the European imperialism. All African countries were colonized except for Ethiopia

Boers, also known as the Dutch descendents or Dutch farmers, were the first to
colonize South Africain 1652. Later on, the British came and took Cape Colony
from the Dutch in 1795. The British at first mainly wanted to colonize South Africa
as it helps her to trade with India by its route. South Africa s temperate climate,
natural resources, and massive minerals attracted Europeans to take it over. Also,

There were many important positive effects. First of all, there was a huge advance in
agriculture. Early, when the Dutch settled in South Africa, they taught South Africans
new farming techniques that would increase their production. The Dutch, being
specialized in farming, introduced new farming tools to South Africans. The
discovery of gold helped the British use gold efficiently as they made different kinds
of jewelry which increased the economy enormously. The British bought many
African slaves to work in the mining industry but this helped them learn new
techniques that would increase their production and resources. The British has
actually improved the education in South Africa. Nowadays, we see British systems
in South Africa that are still helping South Africans to become successful in their
lives. The employment rate is increasing and increasing. On the other hand, there
were also negative impacts. The main negative impact is racial discrimination. The
starting of feuds between blacks and whites in the colonization of South Africa are
still happening today in South Africa. Economic exploitation is also a negative
impact. The British are still taking goods and resources from South

Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyse the branding strategies used currently in the
pharmaceutical industry and compare it to the best practices in Fast Moving
Consumer goods. First the authors review the differences in the way branding is
defined and organised in
pharmaceuticals versus FMCG and identify why branding could be leveraged in the
pharmaceutical industry to help it return to strong growth in the future. Second, the
authors analyse in detail what branding The

Branding, however, represents a new competitive advantage that could be leveraged
by the industry, in line with the success seen in the FMCG (fast moving consumer
goods) area over the last two decades. Branding strategies could then help to
maximise return on investment for new products whilst helping to alleviate the
inevitable growth of generics in the future.

The objective of this paper is to first investigate what is the current branding situation
in the pharmaceutical industry and how it compares versus the FMCG experience;
second develop a rationale for branding; third to analyse how pharma s existing
branding strategies differ versus current best practise in the FMCG area e.g. in the
choice of brand name strategies, global branding, brand extension, co branding and
brand portfolio management and then finally to recommend actions that could make
a difference resulting from the lessons learned from successful FMCG branding.

Brand definition
Traditionally when a pharmaceutical product is launched the product positioning is
based on the product licence i.e. its indications and the established efficacy, safety
and tolerability seen in registration clinical studies. Post launch studies then tend to
lead to a broadening of the
indications, the development of new dosage forms and the strengthening of claims
versus the competition (Moss 2001).

Second Thoughts Of Colonial Historians And American...
After reading Second Thoughts of Colonial Historians and American Indians by
James H. Merrell, it is important to acknowledge the symbolicism of the language
used by so many Colonial Historians as they recount significant instances throughout
our Indigenous American History. In many comparisons, word selection used to
describe the Native peoples, tend to simplify their existence as merely hunters and
gatherers. Almost never do historians recount how the Natives used sophisticated
techniques such as field burning to replenish the nutrients to the soil, or alternating
crops as to lessen the burden on the soil as to produce a plentiful harvest or to insure
an abundance of game meat during the sparse crop months, they cleared land around
their communities to make taking game meat easier. Natives believe the land is
sacred and is bountiful if tended to, and the game meat they used as sustenance, as a
gift. Over time, as historians commonly referred to the Natives as hunters, it
eventually imbedded in many of the colonists minds, the Indigenous people were
aggressive in nature, ultimately calling them savages and the like feeding a hatred
that would eventually lead to war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Capsaicin Lab Report
The Wonderful World of Capsaicin
Abstract
Capsaicin contains amounts of antimicrobial properties varying from pepper to
pepper. In this experiment, the bacteria, Serratia, was used to test the strength of
different solutions containing capsaicin using jalapeno seeds mixed with water,
ethanol, or both, and compared with a control without the seeds. The zones of
inhibition were then measured after one week to compare the reaction between each
solution to the bacteria.
Introduction
Peppers are known for their spicy flavor and seemingly burning impact when it comes
to taste. Capsaicin is what gives these peppers such a kick, and the levels vary from
pepper to pepper. The seeds of the pepper contain the most amount of this chemical,

Figure 1.1 reveals that there was no supportable correlation between the combined
use of ethanol and capsaicin against the gram negative bacteria, Serratia. The results
varied in an unpredictable manner. According to the Figure 1.1, the 5 mL solution of
pure ethanol, on average, resulted in higher zones of inhibition than the other
treatments, which was expected due to ethanol s antimicrobial properties. But, the
ethanol and seed solution, which warranted the best possible results, produced
straight zeros across the board. In the 5 mL solution of ethanol and water, we saw
effects from both seeds and seedless solutions. Surprisingly, the solution with seeds
ended up being 75% as effective as the ethanol solution without seeds and in a way,
contradicting the previous no show results from the ethanol with seeds. Both
solutions, seeds and seedless, containing 5 mL of water failed to produce any zones

Social and Ethical Technology Concerns-Biotechnology
Social and Ethical Technology Concerns Biotechnology
Biotechnology is technology based on living organisms. It harnesses cellular and
biomolecular processes to develop technologies or products which are immensely
useful to mankind. Biotechnology modifies living organisms according to our
needs. Humans have employed this tool in the fields of agriculture, food industry
and medicine for more than 6000 years. We see numerous biotechnological
applications in our every day life. Preparation of food products like bread, cheese
and preservatives in dairy products are all outcomes of this great scientific tool
(Biotechnology Industry Organization).
Modern biotechnological research has created wonders for mankind. It has provided
products to combat rare diseases, vaccines for untreatable diseases, food for the
hungry and a safer, cleaner environment to our planet.
Biotechnology has played a vital role in reducing the green house effect and in
producing a cleaner planet. Because of the worldwide economic and environmental
concerns regarding the use of petro chemicals, extensive research has been
conducted on residual biomass. Significant progress has been made in the field of
lignocellulose biotechnology. Lignocellulosic waste materials have been used in the
production of bio fuels, enzymes, chemicals, the pulp and paper, animal feed and
composites (Iqbal, 2013). Moreover, algal biomass has received huge attention in
producing biofuels due to their relatively high growth rate, great

Super Sad True Love Story Analysis
Super Sad True Love Story Response to Personal Prompt #1
Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart is a satirical dystopian novel with
many complex, interesting characters. While everyone in the society has their flaws
namely the obsession with youth, attractiveness, and technology that seems to run
through them all the characters have characteristics that we can all resonate with, as
was the purpose the author intended. In this novel, I found myself relating the most to
Sally, Eunice s sister. While a minor background character, her political activism and
care for the one s she loves sincerely resonated with me. Sally Park, from the
beginning of the novel, is interested in protesting against the American Restoration
Authority. She doesn t agree with the Bipartisans and wants to help do something

myself trying to educate others on the real, frightening problems that are arising in

Memory Foam
If you are thinking about purchasing a memory foam mattress and really do not
know anything other than what you have heard through television ads, then you
will first need to understand exactly what memory foam is and how it works to
ensure that you pick the best mattress for you. Memory foam, in its primitive stage
was first used by NASA in the 1970s for space missions. The prototypes were thin
in appearance and over time, cracked. But they served the purpose in providing
comfort to the astronaut while on space missions. Over time, memory foam has been
transformed and manufactured by several companies, all of which proclaim their
version to be the best. These mattresses are now quite durable and thick, yet very soft
and spongy to the touch.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not all memory foam mattresses are the same, though. There are certain aspects
that you have to look for, one being the density range. Since memory foam is a soft
surface you will need something supportive at the base. The entire mattress should
never be solely memory foam. Memory foam by itself is too soft and will not
provide adequate support. Added over a firm material, however, it creates the
perfect combination for a good nights rest. Two other features that you will want to
look for are temperature and filling. A lower temperature will result in a firm
surface while higher temperatures result in a softer surface. If you do not want to
buy a full mattress, you can buy a mattress topper that comes in a variety of
temperatures. Filler should be quality and not cheap. Some manufacturers fill the
mattress with sand so be sure to find out what the filler is prior to purchasing. The
best memory foam mattress should also have a depth of three to five inches as any
less or more will result in less support. Remember that cheaper is not always better.
Some of the cheaper models are filled with sand rather than a high quality filling,
ensuring your

Theodore Adorno and Max Horkheimer were two renowned Jewish representatives
of the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory; they were particularly dominant during
the early 20th century, approximately around the time of the 1920 s to 1960s. They
took refuge in America after Adolf Hitler s rise in Germany. These to philosophers
developed the CultureIndustry Theory in the 1940s, in light of the disturbed society
they had seen during this time. They witnessed how Nazi Fascism used mass media
such as films, radio and newspapers to brainwash millions into partaking in this
ideology. Similarly they saw the rise of Capitalismin America, which also used mass

Adorno (1977) saw these elements as interchangeable without damaging the song.
When applied to the music industry in contemporary society artists such as Katy
Perry, Ke$ha, and Miley Cyrus sound exactly the same, they use the same chords as
each other. The use of standardisation in the culture industry is to foster the false
consciousness, passivity in order to easily manipulate society into consuming these
products and in the music industries case promote regressive listening and lead to
standardised reactions (Stratini, 2004). The ruling class maintain their power and
control over society through these practices. They create the false needs of society
and produce products to satisfy these needs, which leaves societies in a false satiated
state (Stratini, 2004).
Pseudo Individualism is the second process that produces reification (Adorno, 1977).
For the process of standardisation to be successful in manipulating society into
consumerism and a false consciousness, pseudo individualism is crucial. Pseudo
individualism maintains the appearance that a product is different and unique
(Satrini, 2004). Adorno believes that the principal of originality and individuality has
always been contradictory. The individual is a notion that masses are misleadingly
made to believe (Adorno, 1977). It gives the impression of free choice in an open
market when it is actually deceiving people into consuming standardised products of
the culture industry. This process

Descriptive Essay About My Hometown
A new friend of mine from Central America struggled when I asked him about his
hometown. His expression first told of a welling of formative personal memories
accompanied by a knowing smile on his face. With no words yet arriving and
seconds ticking by, his face shifted with frustration at feeling mute, as if it were an
impossibly monumental task to convey the essence, as he deeply felt, of his
hometown the place of his birth and nurturing and land where still his parents and
one grandparent dwell. Finally, in a linguistic dam burst, words gushed out in a
geyser of information his eyes lit up, and his hands came alive as he related his
meaningful images and a sense of the rhythm of life there. It emerged in random
spasms of phrases about the morning chaos at busy food markets filled with
shoppers, the lake with its neon green and red birds, and his favorite place a quiet
hill top overlooking fields of sugar cane where shirtless workers gathered the
harvest. Then it was my turn to explain to him my hometown. I hardly knew where
to begin. It, too, seemed an impossible task, and I am certain I blurted out in my
own randomness various images that had made their mark on my memory.
However, I knew that I had failed to relate any coherent statements. Later, I
reflected on how to prepare myself better for the next time someone asked me about
my hometown. I decided to pick out three characteristics I could focus on in order to
bring coherence to my hypothetical future listener on the topic of the place I come
from. Having thought it through more, I have confidence now regarding what to say.

sometime catch the rising moon on a beautiful summer evening. Besides the

adults after being applied anesthesia for urological surgery. The report defined
agitation as a sudden anxious state (Kim 2014). The study included the patients
medical history to ensure that the incident of emergency agitation was not linked to
the patient. All the patients were undergoing urological studies. The patients were
separated into control and experimental groups. Next, each patient was given
different dosages of anesthesia. Afterwards, medical workers scored each patient

In this research report, the report investigates the effect of ketamine, alfentanil, and
oral midazolam on preventing agitation in children. Contrary to the previous
annotated bibliography, the study investigates anesthesia that would prevent
agitation. The study investigated 78 children undergoing urological surgery. Each
child was randomly assigned 2 mg/kg ketamine, 10 ug/kg alfentanil or 1 mL of
isotonic saline intranasally (Bilgen 2014). Researchers then determined the
percentage of times the child would become agitated. The data revealed that agitation
decreased most for the group applied with ketamine, and the least for the group
applied with isotonic saline. Therefore, the study concludes that applying ketamine is
most effective for reducing agitation. Nevertheless, all three anesthesia reduced
agitation in children, albeit, in random amounts.
The study s strength were measuring a large sample (78 children), using different
types of anesthesia to reduce agitation, and randomly assigning different anesthesia to
different children. One of the flaws was limiting the study only to children. The study
does not include how anesthesia would affect the general population. This study is
relevant to my research because it presents an example of the benefits of anesthesia,

The Ascent Of Money Summary
In The Ascent of Money Niall Ferguson gives an in depth historical look at money
and finance. He begins with ancient banking practices in ancient Mesopotamia, and
finishes his book with his predictions for the near future based on patterns that he
sees. In the book he discusses the rise of money and credit; the bondmarket; the stock
market; insurance; real estate; and international finance.
Niall Fergusson believes that finance and money was made as a necessity for
urbanization and development, but that every time there has been an international
globalized system set up, that it results in disaster. There has always been trade
between people from different areas, but when it is on a massive global scale it
results in disaster. His premise is that the first true globalized economy led to WWI,
and that the United States is headed for a military showdown with China.
In the first chapter titled Dreams of Avarice: the Rise of Money and Credit
discusses the origins of money and credit and how it has come to help shape the
modern economy. Fergusson says that money had its origins in Mesopotamia as
clay tablets which were recording transactions such as for agrarian. He also says
that credit was given by a Mesopotamian family to people as far away as in Persia
in order to purchase homes. I thought that that was very interesting. He then goes on
to say that the early Christians were not allowed to practice interest or usury, but
Jewish law allowed for the Jews to give loans to
Bruce Lee was Better than Chuck Norris
Why are there so many Chuck Norris jokes but hardly any Bruce Lee jokes?
Because Bruce Lee is no joke. Through his films, philosophy, and legacy, Bruce
Lee became an icon to the world. Lee s films had consumed the kung fu genre, and
in doing so made him an icon. First of all, kung fu was a new and growing genre,
and Lee had monopolized them. According to Bruce Lee s Wikipedia, before
stardom Lee would take on minor roles in American TV dramas; in order to prove
his worth, Lee went to China to star in films produced by Golden Harvest that
would be promoted to Hollywood executives. Lee broke back to back box office
records with his first two films The Big Boss and Fist of Fury. Lee then went on to
act and direct Way of the Dragon in which Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris filmed a
fight scene that is now considered one of the most memorable fight scenes in
martial arts films. While filming his fourth Golden Harvest film Game of Death,
Warner Bros had offered Lee a starring role in Enter the Dragon. Lee s untimely
death had occurred just days before the release of Enter the Dragon. Enter the
Dragon would go on to be one of the highest grossing movies of the year and instill
Lee as a martial arts icon (3 Acting Career). Secondly, Lee brought kung fu movies
to America. Lee provided the ground work for other martial artists such as Jackie
Chan and Jet Li to continue; in short, if Bruce Lee hadn t accomplished what he did,
Jackie Chan and Jet Li may have made it in China but not
Analysis Of Pat Barker As A Memory
A memory has different ways to function that varies from one person to another.
The memory itself is defined as the faculty by which the mind stores and
remembers information. Trauma is something else that can be attached to a
memory and it is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. Memory
plays a tremendous role in our lives as well as in our society. A memory can
prevent us from making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of
breakdown. Are all memories worth to be reminded of? In Regeneration by Pat
Barker as well as in The IMIGRANTS by W.G. Sebald we see a flow of narratives
that underline traumatic memories. On this paper, we will focus our attention on
Billy Prior, one of the characters in Regeneration, and Ambros Adelwarth of The
Emigrants who are somehow fighting their memories.
Billy Prior and Ambros Adelwarth both represent a strong problem of memory, they
both have a clear memory of their past, but sharing them is one of the problems in
the first place. Let begin by talking about Billy Prior, a conflicted and complicated
character being a soldier who had had a difficult life, both at war and at home as he
mentions to Rivers about the front: Look, you might like to think it s one big
happy family out there, but it s not (Regeneration, pg. 53). His experience in the
army was not as happy as he had imagined it could be since he believed that he did
not really fit in his previous job as a clerk in a shipping office, but that he would
Adult Brain Development
A child becomes an adult when they reach the age of twenty four, and they decide
they are ready to handle the largest amount of responsibilities they are going to
have to deal with for an extended amount of time. These responsibilities can be
from buying a house and paying your mortgage monthly to something as simple as
finding a steady job or finding one s self a career. A person will show a growing
amount of independence and will also seem to be more helpful and interactive. It
doesn t have to rely solely on age, it depends more on the development of someone
prefrontal cortex in their brain. The development of their brain will allow them to
realize the elongated sequence of consequences that will occur with each and every
uncommon event. If someone s prefrontal cortex isn t fully or near fully developed
their thoughts of consequences of their actions will mainly be what happens

But those are not the case, even if someone can have a long strand of ongoing
thought that doesn t mean that they act like an adult. Also if someone is eighteen
they may not act or think like an adult even though they have adult responsibilities,
like taxes and mortgages. And the age of twenty one has been described by much of
my family as their best worst year, along with them saying that they still didn t feel
like an adult by that age. The age of twenty four is a good middle ground for these
ages. It may mean that someone s brain may not be completely developed but that is
definitely acceptable. Why would a slightly underdeveloped brain be so bad

To Kill A Mockingbird Point Of View Essay
Scout s unique point of view, which is an unbiased first person with two
perspectives, is developed in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee through the use
of a flashback structure, plot development, and the specific point of view. To start
off, the frame story within the flashback structure helps shape the story s point of
view. In this specific frame story, an older Scout is positively looking back on her
childhood, with her younger self telling the experiences that led to her brother, Jem,
breaking his arm. At the beginning of the novel, she said, When enough years had
gone by to enable us to look back on them, we sometimes discussed the events
leading to his accident (Lee 3). This quote specifically takes the readers to a moment

If this had been told from older Scout s perspective, she would have known what she
had done and directly stated it, rather than indirectly describing what she saw.
From older Scout s perspective at the beginning of the novel, she spoke with her
brother about their childhood much later in life and said, Maycomb was an old
town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it (Lee 6). Scout, at her older
age, thought in depth about what Maycomb was like for her more than she did when
she was younger, specifically seen in the words tired and old . Not only that, but
older Scout spoke in the past tense, something younger Scout would generally not do
since she focused on what was occurring around her rather than contemplating what
already happened. The diction used in both perspectives helps to make the point of
view more unique by showing the innocent differences between the two related yet
different perspectives. These specific examples help support the unique point of view
in the book and show how it is shaped through the structure, developed through the
plot, and related through the diction used in both
Reward Systems
REWARD SYSTEM One of important attributes of work organization is the ability

A Short Note On Diabetes And Type 2 Diabetes
Thesis statements
Sugar is the extremely common item in people s lives. However, only few people
know the true thing that hides behind its sweet. When people eat too much sugar
everyday, they will have high sugar level and cause their bodies do not have enough
insulin to digest the sugar. Then, they might have diabetic disease.
Introduction
Diabetes
There are two types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes
is a disease that doctor can not predict or prevent. People still can produce insulin
after they eat cake, cookie or drank soda. It occurs when immune system attacks the
pancreas and damages the cells that produce insulin(Living with diabetes 11).

Type of sugar
Carbohydrates, glucose and fructose are the three types out of the various types of
sugar that contains in daily food. Carbohydrates exist in sugar and starches. Also,
carbohydrates can identify in two types: simple sugar and complex carbohydrates.
The difference between simple sugar and complex carbohydrates is simple sugar
will be broken down quickly by the body(Living with diabetes,67 68). Glucose is
absorbed by the pancreas, which produces insulin to balance the sugar levels and
then turns it into energy for human s bodies.(Banks, Ice cold trouble: do the risks
of soda outweigh the refreshment? ) Fructose is the type of sugar that is usually
found in fruit and sweeteners. It does not help to produce insulin and it has more
negative effect on human body. Additionally, it does not make you feel full and
people will keep drinking the sweet stuff. The fructose that people eat will directly
go into the liver which is the primary organ that digest it. The liver will turn the
fructose into a specific form of fat and store it in the liver and release it into the
bloodstream. In addition, the fructose breaks down in the liver just like alcohol and
it will have some similar effect like alcohol. (Diane, Fructose: friend or foe? ) Thus,
do not trust the sweet mask of the sugar. In fact, it will cause a bad disease called
diabetes.
Effect of soda
Soda has great effect on human s body. A regular soda has high sugar which consists
of cheap corn syrup. There

The intricacies of their bond, the symbiotic nature of their companionship, and the underlying complexities that shape their interactions require careful analysis and thoughtful exploration. One must navigate through the layers of Steinbeck's narrative, delving into the psychological dimensions of each character and their evolving dynamic. The challenge lies in deciphering the nuances of George's protective instincts and Lennie's dependency, understanding the impact of their shared dreams, and examining the external forces that threaten to disrupt their fragile equilibrium. Japanese Popular Rock Music And Japanese Culture Japanese Popular Rock Music Japanese popular music and Japanese popular culture is heavily influenced by Western culture through similar characteristics such as instruments, rhythm, style, and language. When listening to J pop songs, most people tend to think that they might have heard these songs before despite ever listening to those songs. This familiarity is due to the fact that J pop songs derive from many aspects of the Western music style. The individuality could come from the arrangement of songs, voice of singers, differences in language, or some combination of the three. All J pop songs have a common characteristic of individuality and familiarity signifying that they are similar to existing music, but these characteristics are also dissimilar in any ways. • 3. The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth Research Paper: The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth Lucas Eckert PSE4UO Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society. Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play, and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents involvement in the athletes career. Pressure to Participate The most basic form of influence the parent possesses over the

There is but one physical setting (place) for the entire novel, yet three temporal settings (time) are utilized throughout the course of the novel. The book begins in late 19th century London, specifically, in the Time Traveller s abode in Richmond. The dining room, smoking room, and laboratory are the only rooms seen and are not fully described, as they are only the setting for the narrative frame. The visitants gather in the smoking room, seating themselves around the Time Traveller. In addition, the narrator mentions that it has been three years since the Time Traveler has disappeared, and they have not seen him since. 4. The central conflict in the novel is the Time Traveller s endeavors to comprehend the post human society and its constituents. The bulk of the book is spent with the Time Traveller investigating the true nature of human civilization in this future. His final theory, after coming up with several wrong ones over the course of the novel, is that the Eloi and the Morlocks are both descendants of Victorian humankind. In the poem, the poet portrays herself as a Nobody and playfully asks the responder Who are you? . Dickinson follows up by adding Are you nobody too?/Then there is a pair of us! this helps Dickinson unite with the responder adding the sense of belonging to one another. In the last stanza, the poet shows how oppressive the somebodies crowd can be Don t tell!/They d advertise you know? This also shows the connection that Dickinson has with being a nobody, and the ability to stand out from the crowd. How dreary to be somebody! shows how the poet loves to be a nobody, and feels like she belongs. Dickinson frequently uses rhythmic dashes to interrupt the flow, and engage the responder to pause to think and feel about the line. The poet also uses juxtaposition in the line How public like a Frog These combining elements are not typically considered together, and, thus, more powerfully conveying its meaning. The poem shows that Dickinson is quite content with not connecting with the somebodies and that the poet enjoys being an outsider to the rest of the world and feels like she belongs to her own little place. In the picture book, The rabbits by John Marsden Shaun Tan it shows the perspective of belonging as connecting to the indigenous Aboriginal land, people and culture. The allegory of the rabbits being
  • 6. A Short Note On The And Its Effects On The Circulatory... Q.1 Hypovolemic shock is a decreased volume of blood in the circulatory system, which caused by fluid and/or blood loss (Garretson Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48). This volume depletion in Mr Jensen s case could have occurred as a result of his traumatic injury and surgery. As a result of the fluid and/or bloodloss the body can enter into different phases of the hypovolemic shock, including initial, compensatory, progressive and refractory (Garretson Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48). Once the loss of fluid/blood volume exceeds 750ml, a decrease in cardiac output and blood pressure occur. For this reason, the parasympathetic nervous system is mediated to shunt the blood towards the vital organs. This also explains the impaired blood circulation in Mr Jensen s right leg that is cool to touch (Garretson Malberti, 2007, p. 47 48). Mr Jensen s post operative assessment data such as blood glucose level of 17mmol/L, heart rate 107, respiratory rate 24 BPM and decreased urinary output reflect his body psychological response to stress, induced by the surgical procedure (Gordon Craft, 2011, pp. 1047 1051). This resulted in a major trauma, which activated the metabolic stress response at the hypothalamus and sympathetic nervous system (SNS). For this reason, the adrenal gland was mediated by the SNS to release adrenaline and noradrenaline. Furthermore, the hypothalamus activated the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis to release hormones, which resulted in an increased level of cortisol,

The workers would owe loyalty, obligations, and allegiance to their local lord, just as the local ward owed allegiance to the king. The local lord also has obligations to follow, making it a fair trade. In exchange for the local lord s protection, a group of peasants agreed give him supplies and perform work, such as farming for him.The lord would also give the serf right to take resources from his land, such as water, and to use his land to make food and a home. These areas were mainly schools and colleges. On a normal school day, children would be taught different subjects that the school offers have some time allocated for physical education and sports and also have breaks in between for meals. Recently, however, homeschoolingis on the rise in most parts of the world. For so many years this system of education was a reserve for the royals who were not allowed to freely mingle with children of other citizens. Homeschooling also known as home education refers to the education of the children inside their homes as opposed to a formal setting of a private or public school. This practice is on the rise with statistics showing that today more than two million kids are taught at home. Although many scholars support education that is offered in formal settings such as schools, homeschooling has been an effective alternative to a cheaper more wholesome method of educating children. This practice has immense positive effects on a child physically, mentally and socially with very dismal differences in terms of a child performance when compared to education offered in stricter

Technological advance allowed lower grade taconite ores to be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills further east. Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first half of the 20th century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel was now needed for rails, but structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries. Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal integration and merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce competition and to increase the scale of enterprises. Some companies became involved in vertical integration, being particularly anxious to secure their supplies of coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous

  • 12. William Arthur s Court And Monty Python And The Holy Grail Most Arthurian novels involve a violent conflict with multiple knights. In the cases of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court and Monty Python and the Holy Grail violence is taken to the extreme to show how knights are allowed to get away with killing innocent people as long as they are from Camelot. This idea is expressed multiple times throughout the book and movie and used in a rather humorous way. In the book, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, a few instances occur where violence is overdone. One is when Hank is dueling Sir Sagramore in front of everyone. Hank isn t skilled with the sword, so instead of learning how to use it or finding a new weapon, he uses a lasso. This is comical because a lasso is what a cowboy uses to catch and tie up his cattle. The use of the lasso in this situation brings Sir Sagramore to the same ontological level as animals while also putting himself higher on the ontological hierarchy. After he defeats Sir Sagramore with the lasso the other knights jump in and try to fight Hank as well. This does not go well for them as they are also defeated. The only thing that can stop such a silly weapon is Merlin who takes it away from Hank. The knights think they can finally kill Hank until he pulls out a revolver and shoots Sir Sagramore in the head. One would think everyone would be upset and a bit shocked, but no one does anything about it. Instead of being mad that the knightly code of honor was violated, everyone just lets Hank

It can be about perspective and whom it is that defines what makes a leader because in some environments the term leadership and management are interchangeable. A leader is more than the authority figurehead that controls the decision making and direction of a group of people. According to Fairholm Fairholm (2009) a leader will create a culture of trust, progress, and growth that enables the workers/followers to grow mature and develop to their fullest potential and at the same time to develop the leader skills (Fairholm Fairholm, 2009, p. 2). The three leadership models selected were Healthcare Leadership Model, Servant Leadership Model, and Adaptive Leadership Model and the selected topic of this paper is Leadership behind Prison Walls. The prison milieu is a place where security is a top priority and to ensure that it remains at the forefront of everyone s mind then adequate leadership must be in place to guide and develop workers. • 18. Burial Rites By Hannah Kent Burial Rites by Hannah Kent was published in 2013 in Sydney. This reveals the book is new which then implies that the topic is relatively modern, new and set in Australia due to Hannah Kent being a young Australian writer. These presumptions are both entirely false as the book is set in Iceland in the 1800s. Looking at the cover of the book it does not correctly show you these facts or the story line. The genre of Burial Rites is quite difficult to narrow down as it is a mixture of many. The main genres are historical text, murder mystery, gothic romance and feminist revisionism. Feminist revisionism is especially shown through the book. This is demonstrated through the roles of the women in the families and the fact that they have just as many roles and jobs as the males in the family. Even though there is the stereotypical view of men being the boss of the house and conducting business affairs, women still have to complete jobs which may be seen as a man s job. Obviously, it is a historical text as it is set in the early 1800 s, but the other genres are more obscure to recognise. Perhaps Burial Rites is a murder mystery, but if so, only slightly. The murder mystery is shown through how Agnes accompanied the murder, not so much who conducted the murder as we already know this fact. Hannah Kent has focused the book more on a whydunnit than a whodunit, because it makes the book increasingly interesting and believes there is further mystery in the characters rather that

All African countries were colonized except for Ethiopia and Liberia. South Africa was one of the main countries that faced imperialism. The Boers, also known as the Dutch descendents or Dutch farmers, were the first to colonize South Africain 1652. Later on, the British came and took Cape Colony from the Dutch in 1795. The British at first mainly wanted to colonize South Africa as it helps her to trade with India by its route. First of all, there was a huge advance in agriculture. Early, when the Dutch settled in South Africa, they taught South Africans new farming techniques that would increase their production. The Dutch, being specialized in farming, introduced new farming tools to South Africans. The discovery of gold helped the British use gold efficiently as they made different kinds of jewelry which increased the economy enormously. The British bought many African slaves to work in the mining industry but this helped them learn new techniques that would increase their production and resources. The British has actually improved the education in South Africa. Nowadays, we see British systems in South Africa that are still helping South Africans to become successful in their lives. The employment rate is increasing and increasing. On the other hand, there were also negative impacts. The main negative impact is racial discrimination. The starting of feuds between blacks and whites in the colonization of South Africa are still happening today in South Africa. Economic exploitation is also a negative impact. Merrell, it is important to acknowledge the symbolicism of the language used by so many Colonial Historians as they recount significant instances throughout our Indigenous American History. In many comparisons, word selection used to describe the Native peoples, tend to simplify their existence as merely hunters and gatherers. Almost never do historians recount how the Natives used sophisticated techniques such as field burning to replenish the nutrients to the soil, or alternating crops as to lessen the burden on the soil as to produce a plentiful harvest or to insure an abundance of game meat during the sparse crop months, they cleared land around their communities to make taking game meat easier. Natives believe the land is sacred and is bountiful if tended to, and the game meat they used as sustenance, as a gift. Over time, as historians commonly referred to the Natives as hunters, it eventually imbedded in many of the colonists minds, the Indigenous people were aggressive in nature, ultimately calling them savages and the like feeding a hatred that would eventually lead to war... Memory Foam If you are thinking about purchasing a memory foam mattress and really do not know anything other than what you have heard through television ads, then you will first need to understand exactly what memory foam is and how it works to ensure that you pick the best mattress for you. Memory foam, in its primitive stage was first used by NASA in the 1970s for space missions. The prototypes were thin in appearance and over time, cracked. But they served the purpose in providing comfort to the astronaut while on space missions. Over time, memory foam has been transformed and manufactured by several companies, all of which proclaim their version to be the best. These mattresses are now quite durable and thick, yet very soft and spongy to the touch.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not all memory foam mattresses are the same, though. There are certain aspects that you have to look for, one being the density range. Since memory foam is a soft surface you will need something supportive at the base. The entire mattress should never be solely memory foam. Memory foam by itself is too soft and will not provide adequate support. Added over a firm material, however, it creates the perfect combination for a good nights rest. Two other features that you will want to look for are temperature and filling. A lower temperature will result in a firm surface while higher temperatures result in a softer surface. If you do not want to buy a full mattress, you can buy a mattress topper that comes in a variety of temperatures. Filler should be quality and not cheap. Some manufacturers fill the mattress with sand so be sure to find out what the filler is prior to purchasing. The best memory foam mattress should also have a depth of three to five inches as any less or more will result in less support. Remember that cheaper is not always better. Some of the cheaper models are filled with sand rather than a high quality filling, ensuring your

Adorno (1977) saw these elements as interchangeable without damaging the song. When applied to the music industry in contemporary society artists such as Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Miley Cyrus sound exactly the same, they use the same chords as each other. The use of standardisation in the culture industry is to foster the false consciousness, passivity in order to easily manipulate society into consuming these products and in the music industries case promote regressive listening and lead to standardised reactions (Stratini, 2004). The ruling class maintain their power and control over society through these practices. They create the false needs of society and produce products to satisfy these needs, which leaves societies in a false satiated state (Stratini, 2004). Pseudo Individualism is the second process that produces reification (Adorno, 1977). For the process of standardisation to be successful in manipulating society into consumerism and a false consciousness, pseudo individualism is crucial. Pseudo individualism maintains the appearance that a product is different and unique (Satrini, 2004). Adorno believes that the principal of originality and individuality has always been contradictory. The individual is a notion that masses are misleadingly made to believe (Adorno, 1977). It gives the impression of free choice in an open market when it is actually deceiving people into consuming standardised products of the culture industry. This process

His expression first told of a welling of formative personal memories accompanied by a knowing smile on his face. With no words yet arriving and seconds ticking by, his face shifted with frustration at feeling mute, as if it were an impossibly monumental task to convey the essence, as he deeply felt, of his hometown the place of his birth and nurturing and land where still his parents and one grandparent dwell. Finally, in a linguistic dam burst, words gushed out in a geyser of information his eyes lit up, and his hands came alive as he related his meaningful images and a sense of the rhythm of life there. It emerged in random spasms of phrases about the morning chaos at busy food markets filled with shoppers, the lake with its neon green and red birds, and his favorite place a quiet hill top overlooking fields of sugar cane where shirtless workers gathered the harvest. Then it was my turn to explain to him my hometown. I hardly knew where to begin. It, too, seemed an impossible task, and I am certain I blurted out in my own randomness various images that had made their mark on my memory. However, I knew that I had failed to relate any coherent statements. Later, I reflected on how to prepare myself better for the next time someone asked me about my hometown. In this research report, the report investigates the effect of ketamine, alfentanil, and oral midazolam on preventing agitation in children. Contrary to the previous annotated bibliography, the study investigates anesthesia that would prevent agitation. The study investigated 78 children undergoing urological surgery. Each child was randomly assigned 2 mg/kg ketamine, 10 ug/kg alfentanil or 1 mL of isotonic saline intranasally (Bilgen 2014). Researchers then determined the percentage of times the child would become agitated. The data revealed that agitation decreased most for the group applied with ketamine, and the least for the group applied with isotonic saline. Therefore, the study concludes that applying ketamine is most effective for reducing agitation. Nevertheless, all three anesthesia reduced agitation in children, albeit, in random amounts. The study s strength were measuring a large sample (78 children), using different types of anesthesia to reduce agitation, and randomly assigning different anesthesia to different children. One of the flaws was limiting the study only to children. The study does not include how anesthesia would affect the general population. He begins with ancient banking practices in ancient Mesopotamia, and finishes his book with his predictions for the near future based on patterns that he sees. In the book he discusses the rise of money and credit; the bondmarket; the stock market; insurance; real estate; and international finance. Niall Fergusson believes that finance and money was made as a necessity for urbanization and development, but that every time there has been an international globalized system set up, that it results in disaster. There has always been trade between people from different areas, but when it is on a massive global scale it results in disaster. His premise is that the first true globalized economy led to WWI, and that the United States is headed for a military showdown with China. In the first chapter titled Dreams of Avarice: the Rise of Money and Credit discusses the origins of money and credit and how it has come to help shape the modern economy. Fergusson says that money had its origins in Mesopotamia as clay tablets which were recording transactions such as for agrarian. He also says that credit was given by a Mesopotamian family to people as far away as in Persia in order to purchase homes. I thought that that was very interesting. He then goes on to say that the early Christians were not allowed to practice interest or usury, but Jewish law allowed for the Jews to give loans to

First of all, kung fu was a new and growing genre, and Lee had monopolized them. According to Bruce Lee s Wikipedia, before stardom Lee would take on minor roles in American TV dramas; in order to prove his worth, Lee went to China to star in films produced by Golden Harvest that would be promoted to Hollywood executives. Lee broke back to back box office records with his first two films The Big Boss and Fist of Fury. A memory can prevent us from making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of breakdown. Are all memories worth to be reminded of?
