I came into Human Sexuality a giggling, prudish virgin. I'm leaving it... well, a giggling virgin, but no longer a prudish one. In this class, I've grown
exponentially, even if I still blush when I say "penis."
At the beginning of the semester, I thought Human Sexuality was just a high school sex education class (but hopefully a little spicier). This thought
process was confirmed for me when I opened my textbook to the middle, and I was immediately greeted by couples engaging in intercourse (quite
frankly). However, on day one, I learned that I was dead wrong. Human Sexuality isn't just about "bumping uglies;" it's about our attitudes toward
sexuality, our behaviors, and ourselves. It's about embracing ourselves as human beings and being honest about the things that society has told us is
"taboo" to speak about, so we can all be safer, healthier, and happier.
The course was set up in a way that was really beneficial to me, as an awkward freshman with not a lot of background in sexuality. We started from
the ground (I still remember the first day, when we yelled out slang for penis for a good ten minutes), and we worked our way up, step by step, in a
way that we could all keep up with. I never felt overwhelmed by the information given to me, but I was thoughtful, and I was given plenty of time to

Sexual identity and sensuality always made sense as part of sexuality to me, but I never considered intimacy (as it relates to risk taking,
self–disclosure, and trust), sexualization, and sexual health as part of it, really. Some of this could be due to the fact that I'm gay, so I've never

Sexuality In The Workplace
The person that I interviewed was Roxanne Nowak. She is married to a thrower on our men's track and field team. I was able to have a nice long
phone call with her and learned a lot about how sexuality influenced her position in the mental health field.
Roxanne works extremely hard and could not stop talking about how rewarding her job really is. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, she deals with
kids on a daily basis. She works for Northwest Journey, which is a Day treatment facility that meets with families and kids that range from Elementary

Human Sexuality Sexuality is something that seems to dominate a lot of the world we live in. It's in our schools, at work, and especially in the
mass media. The way your body develops and the way you feel and respond to others sexually creates your sexuality ("Sexuality and Sexual
Orientation", Youthoria). It can shape and affect people's lives as well as our own. Sexuality can be influenced by culture, religion, media, friends and
experiences. Some people are very sexual, while others experience no sexual attraction at all. Sexuality has always been treated as taboo and some

When Jane and Jake meet up to attend their son's graduation, the two begin to have an affair. At the same time, she begins to fall inlove with another

There are a few human sexuality themes that I noticed in this film. The first and most obvious theme that I noticed is how the film goes against the
stereotypes that media places of sexuality and age. At often times, younger people are seen to have vibrant sexual relationship. The thing that I
can admire about this film is that it shows sex between older people. Most people have misconceptions that when people achieve a certain age,
they no longer have sex. This stereotype is not true. People who are in their 50's and up can still have very healthy active sex lives. This stereotype
was something that the characters in the film seemed to struggle with. Both Jane and Jake were trying to fight the aging to seem more physically
attractive. For example, Jane considered getting a facelift to compete with her ex's young wife. Jane also seemed to be very influenced by her
friend's ideas on love and sex; their perspective seemed to alter her perspective. In the beginning, she was very conflicted in expressing her sexuality.

Science defines human sexuality as one of the most complex and controversial topics, mainly because it gets close to peoples thoughts and feelings and
can also make people a little uncomfortable. Human sexuality can come to help define each person as an individual but also as social beings, this
means that certain conversations about human sexuality can become heated and personal. There is an article written by Mayer and McHugh ", which
offers a careful summary and an up–to–date explanation of many of the most rigorous findings produced by the biological, psychological and social
sciences related to sexual orientation and gender identity."
One section that this article by Mayer and McHugh discusses how difficult it is to really define human sexuality. Because there are many different
parts to this wide array of a subject, so it makes it difficult to be able to give a definition that encompasses it all. Another subject that this article
discusses is Genetic and Innate factors saying that there is no sure way of telling why someone would identify as a homosexual but that research in that
area is still continuing.

the same emotion (if it can be called that) that I experienced when first

As we grow into young adults, we move to a stage of sexual maturity. Sexual maturity is a time where we can procreate, where there will be in our
stamina, and an increase in sexual desires for both men and women. This is something that happens for everyone after we have surpassed the puberty
stage. All of this is matters because sexual arousal is a physiological function. The physiological aspect of this cartoon seems to be on the fence of

negative response from the husband as if he is lacking interest, but he doesn't seem as enthused as his counterpart which could have a lot to do with
the physiological aspect of him. It is possible that his stamina has declined due to his age or he could have possibly lost the ability to have sexual
arousal for his elderly wife. The physiological response of the husband's actions or lack thereof can have a domino effect on the psychological
dimension of this couple's relationship. As stated earlier, the husband is necessarily displaying a positive response to his wife's actions. He is just
sitting there with a stunned face which can in return, make the wife feel negatively.

During this semester, I've shaped my understanding of sex and sexuality through readings and discussions presented in class. Moreover, I've notice
how the media is the major influence on our development as humans nowadays and that things are being expressed and experienced at younger ages,
than ever before. Children and teenagers are discovering their sexuality at early ages. Thanks to the freedom that social media offer them; they have
better access to express their personal identity rather than to limit themselves to their biological sex and society's role expectations. Also, I think that
the media has been a helpful tool to change society's narrow point of view over gender roles, gender identity and sex. Today people feel comfortable

Since October, I've been able to focus more on what I want to take from this class. I have enjoyed learning and reviewing what sexuality is for other
people and why it's important to me. This semester has helped me figure out how much of what I have learned is opinion and how to separate that

As a Christian, I believe sexuality is a gift from God. Sexuality, I believe, is meant to express something rich, beautiful, and intimate in relationship

beings (Genesis 2). A healthy expression of sexuality, as Paris (2011) writes, "whether one is sexually active or not...generates energy, creativity and

This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to think about myself as incredibly open–minded and
well–rounded when it comes to understanding the different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to
this class's guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been blind to. While I had known some about
BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I wasn't aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have
expected that BDSM would have it's own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood
BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive

In Carmilla, Sheridan Le Fanu uses vampires to identify and challenge gender roles of women in the Victorian age. From the outset, Carmilla and
Laura's relationship appears to transcend mere homosocial characteristics; Carmilla awakens sensations in Laura which she has never known before
because her sexuality has always been suppressed. This suppression is inherently motived by the dominant ideology in Victorian culture that

To start things off I will be talking about the history ofmarriage and casual sex in the US during this past century and its key events starting with Dr.
Kinsey. Considered one of the most iconic figures when it came to human sexuality, he was one of the first to openly express and talk about sexuality

& Burnette, 104). As time progressed, the median age at which women had sex for the first time decreased from 19 in the 1960's to 17 in the 1990's

With casual sex becoming more socially acceptable in the US, we see the effect it has on marriage and cohabitation. Because premarital sex started
to become more popular in the US, it was found that the median age for first time marriage rose from 22.8 to 26.8 years for men and 20.3 to 25.1
years for women (105). Another effect of having sex before marriage was the idea and lifestyle of cohabitation, something that was seen a lot less than
