Why I Want To Become A Travel Nurse
My future starts with going to college and earning a degree in nursing. More specifically, i will earn
a BSN (bachelors in science of nursing). I plan on attending University of Charleston in the fall.
After spending about four years earning this degree i plan to join a traveling company and become a
traveling nurse. I plan to only stay in North America when i travel. By becoming a travel nurse, i
gain many benefits that most nurses don't get. My goal with this is to work a minimum of five years
to gain and save enough money to support and pay for going back to college to gain either a master's
or a doctorates degree. When i go back, i plan to specialize in neonatal nursing and eventually work
up to becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner or a neonatal doctor. After earning that degree i will go
back and continue traveling. Now my goals for accomplishing these future plans are fairly simple:

I have always wanted to work with small children in the medical field. After doing research on
nursing specialties i found the neonatal. Neonatal nurses work with babies that are born either too
early(premature) and/ or are suffering from a life threatening situations such as drug addiction or
born with aids. This would be a very tedious job because these babies are most of the time very tiny
and the equipment you work with is tiny and if you're not careful you can instantly kill them or
seriously injure them. One reason i drew interest in this field was because i have had family
members who were born with something wrong or were premature. One of them was actually my
brother. He was born with low blood sugar and digestive problems. If it wasn't for the nurses and the
doctors my baby brother wouldn't have grown up as healthy as he did. I plan to after earning one of
those degrees go back to traveling until i no longer

My Career In Nursing
In high school, I was thinking about becoming a teacher or a nurse. I eventually decided to major in
nursing. In high school I had taken a variety of science courses which I enjoyed. My favorite course
was anatomy and physiology. I also became certified in CPR,First Aid, and AED in March.
Volunteering at the Michigan blood drive also motivated me to pursue nursing as a career. I knew I
liked helping people and I wanted to take that further. As a result I choose to major in nursing. I
wasn't surprise by the Strong Interest Inventory. I had already known what my top five interest areas
were. In high school I took two courses where I took a similar assessment. The two courses were
Careers Find Your Future and Career Planning. Both were online courses. The assessment was taken
on a website called mydreamexplorer. The results were similar. My top five interest areas where in a
different order than they were. Human services was at the top followed by healthcare services.
Social and investigated were also my holland codes along with one other that I can't remember
along with the order. In my meeting with Jenny we talked about which type of nurse I wanted to be
and in what area I wanted to work in. I want to be a registered nurse and haven't given it much
thought as to what area. Jenny printed out pages about registered nurses from different websites for
me as references. She also referenced me to a career advisor to make an academic plan. Therefore I
made an appointment

Nurse Staffing And Quality Improvement
Nurse Staffing by Acuity Despite many efforts to improve staffing numbers, there is often still a
staff shortage among staff in hospitals and acute care settings. While the most obvious solution to
short staffing is to hire more nurses, there are also other ways to make staffing more effective. A
patient acuity tool is a staffing instrument that can be used to decide how much time and attention
each individual patient requires. By knowing the acuity level of each patient, charge nurses can
decide how many patients each nurse can be assigned to at a time. This essay describes the way a
patient acuity instrument improves healthcare outcomes by promoting patient–centered care and
improving on key nurse competencies including teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement,
and safety measures.
Role and Responsibility of the Nurse For nurses, the workload and patient assignments are the most
significant factors in their perception of their ability to provide quality care to their patients. Of
course, this is directly related to nursing job satisfaction. Nursing is a career in which patient
satisfaction and caregiver satisfaction go hand in hand. When the nurse is happy, he or she provides
high quality care to the patient, which in turn makes the patient happy. In addition, when the patient
is pleased with the care they are receiving, this makes the nurse happy and improves nurse job
satisfaction.
Getting Involved One way that nurses can affect nursing staffing is by getting

The Emergency Department At St. Mary's Medical Center
The unit and facility I chose for this paper is the emergency department at St. Mary's Medical Center
in Evansville, Indiana. I chose this unit because it is where I work full–time as a registered nurse. St.
Mary's emergency department (ED) is a Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center that is open
twenty–four hours a day and seven days a week. The nurses are all certified in basic life support
(BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). The
majority of the nurses are also certified in trauma nurse core curriculum (TNCC). The nurses work
eight or twelve–hour shifts. Nurses are either weekend–option meaning they only work weekends or
must work every third weekend. St. Mary's emergency department has a total of forty beds. The unit
is then split into different zones based on patient acuity: red zone, blue zone, yellow zone, and green
zone. St. Mary's ED uses a five–level triage system. Red zone will typically see patients that are
acuities one, two, and three. Red zone is always open. Red zone consists of three trauma rooms,
sixteen exam rooms, and four hallway beds. Patients that are acuity one need life–saving measures.
Examples of patients that are acuity two include strokes, chest pain, and mental health evaluations.
Blue zone will typically see patients that are acuities three or four. Blue zone consists of eleven
exam rooms and will have two to three nurses seeing patients with one team care specialist (TCS).

Nursing And Midwifery Board Of Australia ( Nmba ) National...
ASSIGNMENT 2
As a healthcare professional a therapeutic relationship is fundamental in providing quality patient
care. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) National Competency Standards for a
Registered Nurse (2006) emphasises Collaborative and Therapeutic relationships as one of the four
main domains which make up the standards. The assignment will explore one specific quality on
establishing, maintaining and appropriately concluding a therapeutic relationship in relation to a
Horizon Hospital and Health Service client, in this case Mary Young. The specific attribute chosen
is 'establishes rapport with individuals/groups that enhances they ability to express feelings, fosters
an appropriate context for expression of feeling.' This attribute is crucial in having the guiding
principals for a safe professional practice.
Nurse and patient relationships are referred to therapeutic relationships, they are a person–centred
approach to care (Berman Et al 2012). For a therapeutic relationship to be effective in meeting the
client/patient goals the nurse needs to 'earn the person's trust and respect.' Berman Et al (2012)
suggests that the trust and respect of a patient can be earned through 'sound nursing knowledge and
use of effective communication.' This is reflected in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's
competency standards. These national standards that are regulated and followed by all nurses, they
are updated regularly to remain contemporary and

Nursing Nurses ' Perceptions Of Motivators And Barriers...
Specialized nursing care is necessary as patients' conditions, due to co–morbidities, become more
complex. An initiative to encourage registered nurses (RNs) to pursue certifications in their specialty
is becoming apparent. Many literatures have evidence supporting the positive impact of national
certifications to the professional growth of nurses. Despite foreseeable barriers, many nurses find
national certifications valuable to their practice. The purpose of this paper is to explore the
transplant nurses ' perceptions of motivators and barriers to obtaining the Certified Clinical
Transplant Nurse (CCTN) certification.
Problem Statement
As a result of a growing evidence that indicates the positive elements associated with having a
national certification, there has been an initiative for transplant nurses to acquire a CCTN
certification. The problem is that not all nurses who work on a transplant unit see any incentive to
pursue a CCTN certification. It is imperative to understand the explanations behind the lack of
motivation for acquiring this specialty certification. A resolution could then be created to counteract
any challenges associated with this initiative for professional development.
Background and Scope of Importance
Obtaining a nursing certification is a validation of a nurse's clinical competency and expertise in a
nursing specialty. Extrinsic factors, such as an increase in salary, encourage a nurse to acquire
further training and credentials. Personal

The Career As A Professional Registered Nurse
The success as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) requires hard work, compassion and empathy.
It is important to realize the journey is challenging, but is fulfilling. The registered nurse profession
was established in the 1800s. For over two hundred years a registered nurse has helped those in
need. The responsibilities of nurses is to educate their patients on many types of diseases as well as
provide guidance to patients and their loved ones. It is important for nurses to express compassion,
emotional stability, and empathy for patients. Being the largest healthcare occupation, registered
nurses are able to work in a hospital, physician's office, as well as in home healthcare, with the
option to travel. Registered nurses have the opportunity to travel across the United States to help
care for patients whose access to healthcare is limited. In 2015, the average wage a registered nurse
could earn was $67,500. The general probability of someone starting a career as a registered nurse is
exceptional. In order to become a registered nurse, there are education requirements to be met.
Regardless if the degree is for MSN, BSN, AND, or a diploma, certain requirements must be met.
Typically the BSN degree takes up to 4 years, ADN 2 to 3 years, and a diploma up to 2 years to
complete, with additional schooling to earn a BSN. A MSN allows a combination of BSN and
accelerated programs for those who already hold a bachelor's degree. The courses required are

Critical Appraisal And Its Impact On Nurses Essay
Critical appraisal is the process of critical and systematical assessment of the outcome of a scientific
research to judge its trustworthiness, dependability, confirmability, value and relevance in a
particular context. Qualitative research is a methodical subjective approach used to explain lived
experience, report the significance and nursing implications for Evidence–based Practice (EBP)
Grove, Gray and Burns (2015). This writing will focus on identifying the components of a
qualitative research process and attempt to determining the strength and weakness. It will also
evaluate trustworthiness, credibility, meaningfulness of the research article "Impact of certification
on certified perioperative nurses; A qualitative descriptive survey" (Schroeter, Byrne, Klink, Beier
and McAndrew, 2012, p.35).
Type of Research This is a phonological descriptive qualitative research that try to "fully describe,
explain, and examine the phenomenon of certification and its impact on nurses" (Schroeter et al.,
2012, p.36). According to Grove, Gray and Burns (2015) the level of this research would be placed
in the last but one levels of research evidence. It is a single qualitative descriptive study as
mentioned in the tittle of the article. The purpose of this article is repeated in a couple of paragraphs
in the study. Page 35 and 36.

Flight Nurse: An Interview and Overview
My Profile of Business is on Nurses; but more specifically Flight Nurses. I chose to do a profile of
business on flight nurses because I wanted to thoroughly know what the job and work environment
entails, as well as the experience, education, and certifications requirements for the field. I also
wanted to know the salary and characteristics of a good flight nurse. The information will be
invaluable when I start on my path to becoming a flight nurse. In order to make the report well
rounded I interviewed Lynn Manning. Lynn is currently a Nightingale Air Ambulance Flight Nurse
at Norfolk General Hospital; she has been a registered nurse for 20 years and a flight nurse for four
years. I used the information from the interview and websites such as Flight Nurse HQ, Nurse.com,
and OSFHealthcare.com to create an in–depth profile of a Flight Nurse.
A flight nurse, as Lynn Manning put it," is a registered nurse, who takes care of a patient in a pre–
hospital setting, similar to the EMS system. We get the patient to the hospital by air instead of by
ground." Digging a little deeper using the site flightnurse.com, it is much more complex than that. A
flight nurse is a registered nurse who is highly trained in the area of critical or emergency care and
must administer wide–ranging critical, emergency and pre–hospital care during a rescue or
aeromedical evacuation on board aircrafts. The responsibilities of a flight nurse are extensive. A
flight nurse must ensure the safety and

Pros And Cons Of Stereotypes In Society
Stereotypes are a major issue in our general public. It puts labels about how man should act or live
as indicated by their gender, race, personality, and different realities. This could influence people
who maybe like distinctive things or do diverse exercises, however feel embarrassed about doing as
such due to stereotypes. Furthermore, stereotypes like all men like sports or ladies are not as solid as
men, are among the most widely recognized in our general public. Also stereotypes have created a
misrepresentation of how every individual ought to be. We as a feature of the generation Y should
know how these stereotypes could influence us as people. We ought to learn not to judge and
prejudge about individuals on account of what we figure they ought to resemble, and should change
our perspective about the generalizations that are profoundly established in our general public.
For example, have you at any point mixed up a male nurse for a physician or a female physician for
a nurse? The medical field generally was controlled by male doctors and female registered nurses.
Going back to the 1800's, in any case, it was really men, among them Walt Whitman, which were
the most punctual nurses (Male Nurse Magazine, 2012). Men in America were thusly prohibited
from the field until around the 1950's when men started to reappear the field (Male Nurse Magazine,
2012).

Professional Development And Lifelong Learning
The profession of nursing is held to high standards by many individuals. "There is increasing
recognition that health professionals should engage in continuing professional development and
lifelong learning" (Casey & Clark, 2010, p. 35). The United States health care practice is
continuously changing and reforming, therefore, health care professionals have to develop in a way
to manage the complex health care related needs of the patients (Casey & Clark, 2010).
"Increasingly, registered nurses will need to acquire and develop the skills and attributes required to
deal with a range of new and emerging nursing responsibilities, as health and social care teams
become more diverse" (Casey & Clark, 2010, p. 38). As a nurse, I continue to assess my current
status professionally and personally, as well as plan my professional development for the future.
Professional Self–Assessment It was not until I graduated high school and started college that I
became completely determined and motivated to continuously improve my future and career. During
my senior year in high school, my family underwent a difficult time with the death of my
grandfather. He had been diagnosed with cancer and battled the cancer for a year before it took him
from us. He actually passed only two weeks before my graduation date. It was not until I witnessed
the wonder impact a group of nurses had on my grandfather's battle with cancer and my family that I
realized what my career calling was to be. I

Career Aspects Of Nursing : Career Challenges In Nursing

· Prompt 1 – Career Challenges
Since I was young I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I liked the idea of helping people,
especially kids. I went from wanting to be doctor, to a pediatrician, to a neonatal nurse, and I finally
settled on a nurse. I knew nurses face many challenges that I am preparing myself to overcome.
Working long hours being one of them.
A deal breaker for most people to decide whether or not they want to be a nurse is the rumors of
long shifts. The rumors are actually true. "Logbooks completed by 393 hospital staff nurses revealed
that participants usually worked longer than scheduled and that approximately 40 percent of the
5,317 work shifts they logged exceeded twelve hours." (Rogers) These long hours are dangerous not
only to the nurses but to the quality or their service and patience experience. Nurses are at a higher
chance of error and burnout when they work more than 40 hours week . Nurse shortages, high
patient acuity levels, and speedy admission and discharge cycles lead to the these long hours. On top
of the long shifts with very little breaks it is hardly any recovery time. Often nurses work
nontraditional shifts such as 3pm to 3am therefore they must disrupt the normal sleep schedule.
Nurses in specialized units like surgery and dialysis may be required to work on call so 12 hour
shifts are evolving into 24 hour shifts and becoming more common. (Rogers)

The Key Characteristics Of Nurses In Nursing
According to Dictionary.com, a nurse is a person formally educated and trained in the care of the
sick or infirm. Nurses are essential to the healthcare team, whether in a hospital or a doctor's office.
"The nurse focuses on helping patients meet their needs, including physical, emotional, cognitive,
social, and spiritual needs (Rijal N.D.)". Nurses are set in place to ensure that patients are treated
correctly and suit their needs while they are caring for them. They also have more roles than just
physically taking care of patients. Nurses are in charge of implementing the physician's orders,
putting data in data in charts, and recording patient health vitals. The roles of nurses vary depending
on the type of nurse. "For example, in the hospital setting the registered nurse is often the health
care professional who spends the most time directly with the patient (Rijal N.D.)". With that being
said, nurses must have a number of key qualities to be successful, such as passion, be self–
motivation, and education.
The first quality a competent nurse must have is the ability to have a passion for the work and the
task they are completing. Nurses should be affectionate because it builds trust and a close
relationship between the nurse and the patient. According to Kathrine Hardy, FNP, RN, "My joy is
caring for my patients, and the trust that develops with that relationship. They fulfill me, and I help
provide them with the care they deserve (Wojciechowski, 2016)". A connection or

I got a chance to not only shadow a nurse but also to work with them as a lab technician. I got to see

looked forward to being there. Every time was something new and exciting and even the aspects of
the job that weren't traditionally exciting such as drawing blood kept me engaged. The whole
process of nursing was meaningful, vital, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. This decision by no
means came over night rather it involved periods of contemplation and self–realization. I loved the
shadowing but shadowing and the actual nursing are completely different entities. In my heart I
knew that my ideal job would involve helping others, constantly being stimulated, and challenged.

What Makes One A Leader?
What makes one a leader; do they have to hold a certain position or title? A leader is someone who
leads by example. In order to require something from others a leader has to exemplify on what needs
to be done. A leader needs to achieve own excellence before demanding it from others. The medical
field is composed of many leaders, from management to nurses to doctors, and each on of these
titles comes with the responsibility of being a leader. Nurses are leaders who advocate, take care of
their patients and through daily tasks exemplify leadership. For these past couple of months, I have
had the privilege of having Deb Daniels as my preceptor at Baystate Noble surgical department. She
is a registered nurse in the operating room, she takes on the role of a charge nurse on the unit, and
most importantly she exemplifies leadership on this unit. On my last week of preceptorship, I had an
opportunity to sit down and have an interview with Deb on her thoughts about leadership. The
interview questions went as following:
Question 1: How would you describe your leadership style? Deb stated that her leadership style is
"casual". She focuses on fellow workers, hears them out and hopefully gains trust from them. If a
leader has trust from their team many great things can be accomplished.
Question 2: Do you have a mentor? Who is your mentor? How has he/she influenced you as a nurse
and as a leader? Deb stated that her mentor was Brenda S., she was a a former co–worker in the

The Between Nursing And Nursing
For nurses to obtain a license, they need to obtain a rigorous amount of classes which includes
specific skills of teaching and learning, that gives them the knowledge, good judgment, and wisdom
that they need in order to pass the board exam and to become registered nurses. Education is a vital
tool to close the gap between knowledge and practice, with the only purpose of increasing quality of
care and evidence based practice for the patients. Nursing students sometimes notices the difference
between the demands of their tutor and the practicing nurses. When they go to clinical practice and
they have to face the real situations on a daily basis in a regular floor, in which they are unable to
come up with an answer from what they have learned in theory, that's where gaps start to fill in. The
discrepancy between nursing as it is taught in school and nursing as it is practiced by students in the
clinical setting has been an issue for a long period of time, which concerns learners, teachers and
practitioners. There has been proven that nurses who are excellent in paper and school lack
knowledge in the field. Studies has shown that many graduated nurses who do very well in school,
are unable to put the pieces together in the actual field. If this theory–practice gap is not caught on
time, it will definitely have consequences in the future because the principles are not well stablished
to operate in the workplace. Furthermore, this can cause the new graduate to feel overwhelmed

Role Of The Nurses During Transition Process
Transitioning from childbearing to childrearing is not easy. It takes pride, and commitment to make
the transition route smooth. My paper is about the role of the nurses during that transition, and how
we can provide support to new parents. I wrote some of the things I've learned, and experienced
during the transition process. I provided some common problems families go through during
transition, and wrote some recommendations based on evidenced–based practice approach. I
attached links of some of the resources available in Mecklenburg County that can be helpful for
families who are in transition. Transitioning is a learning process, and can be complicated but it is
also can be a lifetime achievement.
Childbearing by definition is the "process of conceiving, being pregnant with, and giving birth to
children" (Perry, 2014). "Although it seems undeniable that historical shifts in the motivations for
having children have occurred, very little is known about the differential attitudes of parents
regarding their own childbearing" (Groat, 1997). The concept of childbearing is quite simple, but the
process can be a daunting task especially to some who has not gone through that process. The
transition from childbearing to childrearing for families is not an easy road to take, but with proper
education, and support it can be a smooth transition. Childrearing or parenting is the process of
supporting your child from infancy to adulthood. Childrearing,

Accelerated nursing programs are often the quickest route to become licensed as a registered nurse
for those who have already completed a bachelor's degree. Most of these programs can be completed

the United States meet this growing demand through innovative programs that build on an

Professional Growth Through Collaborative Efforts And...
Introduction There are many special events that I hold meaningful in my current profession. I work
as a registered nurse on the surgical specialties unit and have been there for thirty years. Most of the
patients that I care for are post–surgical patients. One particular event that I will be discussing
throughout this paper is that of an extremely painful patient. By utilizing the transformational model
I will be able to show how I have established professional growth through collaborative efforts and
leadership skills. Clinical Narrative I received report from the night nurse stating that S.D. had not
had the best night. She was a twenty–two year old female post op day one, status post
appendectomy. It was her first surgery so in addition to her uncontrolled pain she was also very
anxious, as was her mother. I was told she had not dangled her legs on the side of the bed nor
ambulated since returning from surgery. I knew this was not acceptable. When I did my morning
assessment I could tell she was still in quite a bit of pain despite receiving frequent pain shots the
entire night. Obviously, no one had taken the time to ensure that the medication was working for her.
I asked her if she had gotten any relief and she stated, "no". I immediately paged the resident,
explained her situation, and answered all questions regarding her status. This particular situation not
only demonstrations collaborative practice but also is an example of professional communication.

Registered Nurses Have The Responsibility
Registered Nurses have the responsibility to provide specialized and efficient patient care, such as
assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to every single patient under
their care. Recent changes in hospital regulations by regulatory bodies and agencies are forcing
hospitals to increase their amount of registered nurses without receiving any type of financial
reimbursement. In response hospital and healthcare organizations are terminating non–licensed staff
such as certified nurse assistants, medical technicians, health unit coordinators, transportation
assistants, and janitors to compensate for loss of revenue. Nurses are now forced to do these non–
nursing care tasks, such as taking garbage and laundry out, cleaning equipment, beds, stocking
shelves, and more. The increase in workload causes nurse to decrease nurse–patient relationship,
increased rate of patient mortality and morbidity, and a decrease work satisfaction.
Registered nurse workload directly related to patient outcomes and satisfaction
The registered nurse is a licensed practitioner that is responsible of multiple duties during each shift
assignment, all directed towards patient care. Such as following the "nursing method" assessing,

Health Care Occupation
Research Paper
Direction of Future Healthcare Professional
While discussing the world of healthcare as a whole and thinking personally more about building
and developing a skill set needed as a future healthcare professional, there are many different routes
one can take in their education towards their potential area of specialty. As one chooses a health care
occupation they must think long and hard about what they truly want to do the rest of their life,
while keeping in mind that it needs to be something that person will strive to be their best at each
and every day. If someone loves what they do they will never work a day in their life, or at least that
is what I have always been told, and that is a goal of mine. As a future registered nurse I hope to
work in the area of critical care nursing. It is something that one must have the educational
background in, something one must desire to do, and one must be willing to work towards and attain
the skill set to do so. This area of nursing is not to be taken lightly, and for a good reason.
With that being said, critical care nurses have a challenging job to say the least. These nurses are
also known as ICU nurses. Their job requires them to use their advanced skills to aid in the care of
patients they are treating. The patients that are being seen by the critical care nurses are at high

Horizontal violence and The Effects on Nurses and Patients...
Horizontal violence is not a topic that medical faculties discuss on a day–to–day basis, but it is an
enormous problem within the health care system. In this research the author looks at bulling from a

r.n.'s. The work place needs to be a safe place for not only the patients but also the employees. With
the rise of new graduate nurses who are employed by the medical facilities, they too are starting to

Medical facilities have to start paying more nurses to stay late for work because without adequate
staffing the job duties tend to get behind. Facilities have to pay nurses more money to keep them on
call or higher contracting nurses. Hospitals, clinics and other patient care facilities continue to lose
money every day when nurses are bullied because it also effects patient satisfaction. "Occupational
exposure to bullying decrease job satisfaction"(Ceravolo, Schwartz, Foltz–Ramos, & Castner, 2012,
p. 600). Being a nurse who is a victim of bulling on a day–to–day basis will cause stress in the
nurse's life. If the bulling does not cease in the facilities, nurses will not be completely satisfied with
their job and retention will remain a problem for many hospitals and clinics. Nurse retention is
another problem that patient care facilities deal with because losing a nurse only means the facility
will have to pay more money to replace another nurse. In a retrospective analysis the cost of hiring a
new nurse average around $62,000 to $ 67,000 to recruit, orient and hire a r.n. (Wilson, Diedrich,
Phelps, & Choi, 2011). In the end, the cycle will continue and the result will be nurse retention if
bullying does not stop and is address within a hospital or a clinic.

The's Theory Of Structural Empowerment
With the global nursing shortage, organizations are looking for strategies to retain nurses. One
strategy for nurse retention is, encouraging nurses to get certified, according to research studies. The
population affected by nurse certification is the nurse, the patient, and the organization.
Organizations need to invest into getting nurses certified in their specialty area. Research proves that
certified nurses' self–perception is a sense of empowerment. The Iowa Model of Evidence–Based
Practice will be utilized to guide the change to practice. A literature search was conducted using one
of the world's largest database search engines, the Academic Search Complete (EBSCO). The search
resulted in over 300 journal articles, which were then evaluated and categorized using the evidence
hierarchy rating system. The theoretical framework was the Kanter's theory of structural
empowerment. Fostering the nurses' self–perception of empowerment, which comes with being
certified is a mediator of personal growth; increased competence and confidence; enhanced
knowledge and self–esteem; and ultimately retention. Specialty nurse certification proves the nurse
continued commitment to education and practice, which are ongoing instead of episodic, and thus
more consistent with the changes in healthcare. With the rising cuts in healthcare a constraint
organization may face with the implementation of a plan to encourage nurses to get certified is
funding.

Registered Nurse Benefits
Being a registered nurse can present a number of opportunities for great pay, flexible scheduling,
generous benefits, and travel opportunities. One advantage of being a registered nurse is that they
can command a salary of between about $43,000 and $63,000 dollars per year. In addition to this
salary, many nursing positions offer a signing bonus. Nurses can work a variety of flexible
schedules, which is another advantage. In the field of nursing, you are almost always promised to
make a difference in someone's life and work can be a very diverse and interesting place to be at.
Both of those things being at an advantage, can make the working life of a registered nurse better.
With all of its advantages come the down sides related to the physical

Becoming A Nurse At The Age Of 17
Some people "inherit" a career. Some go to school and later decide on one. As for me, I always
knew that I wanted to become a nurse. It brings me great joy seeing others smile, and being able to
help them. Since I was younger, I was always the "go to" person when it came to helping. Whether it
be household chores, homework or projects, coaching tee–ball, or mentoring at the girls and boys
club. My "calling" so to speak, appeared when I had the opportunity to join the Air Force at the age
of 17. I was put on the delayed entry program for a year after taking the ASVAB test. After being on
active duty for 2 years, I got deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan. This was my second tour, and it was
then that I got my first taste of an actual Emergency operating room. I was able to scrub in on a few
surgeries, and instantly fell in love with the thought of becoming a nurse in the ER. Careers today
have evolved tremendously. Personality plays a vital role in the supplier/ consumer relationship.
With my helpful background, I feel as though nursing is the right career path for me.
First, let's explore the difference between careers today, and those of the past. In the past, if you had
a "Peon" job such as a cook at a restaurant, or a stagnant job (factory worker), some considered that
to be a career opposed to what the standard career choice is considered as in today's time. I
personally consider it just a job, or means of barely providing. When I look at career choices, I look

The Code Of Ethics For Nurses With Interpretive
The process of effectively staffing a nursing unit is one that requires great research. As a manager
you need to be up to date with current trends and current standards so that you can be assured that
your staffing reflects highest quality and safest care available. Not only is best practice vital, as a
manager you must also be thinking of the most cost–effective way to run your unit. Joint
Commission standards are a benchmark that most hospitals use, if your hospital is not complying
with Joint Commission standards it is likely you will risk non–reimbursement for treatment of care.
You also want your unit to be practicing according to The Code of Ethics for Nurses "The code of
ethics establishes the ethical standard for the profession and provides a guide for nurses to use in
ethical analysis and decision–making" (Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive). Having a base
knowledge of the Texas Department of States Health Services would also be a huge help in keeping
your unit up to current codes and standards.
The staffing plan I am purposing is to open another medical surgical wing that would consist of 20
beds. This unit would take place in an already developed wing on 2 central. Currently these 20 beds
are reserved for bariatric patients only, and the unit is closed down other wise when no bariatric
surgeries are scheduled. Currently 2 central is open on average, 2 times a week as the two bariatric
surgeons perform their surgeries on Friday's and on average only 8

Synopsis For My Emergency Department Essay
I am writing a synopsis for my Emergency Department (E.D.) observation day. I was assigned to a
soft–spoken intelligent nurse that had a giving and a sweet disposition. We were assigned a total of
five patients, of which four we introduced ourselves and assessed. It is not that the day was slow, but
my nurse was assigned to go to the front of the E.D. at 11:00 to work at the registration desk. The
hospital has placed registered nurses at the registration desk to obtain the initial assessment of
patients entering the E.R. doors to determine the priority and level of treatment needed. The first
patient of the morning was a female that presented with a recent diagnosis of swollen salivary
glands and she thought she was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics she started taking
yesterday; or she wondered if she was just swollen from her recent diagnosis and that's what was
causing dyspnea and shortness of breath. Intermittently Respiratory administered an albuterol
treatment and we performed vital signs, assessed her and listened to her lungs with our stethoscopes
(before breathing treatment), which was unnecessary for the fact that we could hear that she had
stridor from standing across the room. As the nurse was documenting the patient's vital signs, she
made the comment under her breath that the protocol for the E.D. when someone comes in for
shortness of breath, is to obtain an electrocardiogram (ECG), but she continued to say how the

Who Is The Registered Nurse Standards For Practice?
The number one priority of the Registered Nurse should be to provide holistic, patient–centred, safe
and evidence based care to every patient. Patients who are admitted into hospital or seek healthcare
services externally through clinics or the community usually expect to receive the safest and the
highest quality of care possible from that facility. Registered Nurses have a major responsibility to
ensure that this is achieved. To help guide nurses and other healthcare workers in the right direction,
the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia created and enforced the "Registered Nurse
Standards for Practice". These standards aim to assist healthcare practitioners in providing high
quality and safe care to every client. The standards also aim to prevent any form of harm or negative
consequence to the patient during and after their time in any healthcare facility. This paper will
discuss the reportedly increasing issue of elder abuse, the responsibilities of the Registered Nurse
and the associated Standards of Practice when faced with a patient or family that is experiencing this
type of harm. The standards discussed in this paper will be Standards 2.5, 2.9 and 6.6. The act of
"Elder Abuse" is defined as "any act occurring within a relationship where there is an implication of
trust, which results in harm to the older person." (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation,
2014). Abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, social, nutritional, sexual and/or general neglect

Mobility Case Study
NU 1326
Christopher Vang
April 7 2015
Dealing with immobile patients is a big part of a registered nurse's daily tasks. Mrs. Simmons a 78
year old patient who fell and broke her hip must be carefully monitored so that she does not develop
further health problems. It is important to monitor and act accordingly with immobile patients,
because failure to do so can result in health risks and complications. Not only do immobile patients
require a different level of care, their rehabilitation is also different based on the reason as to why
they are immobile. Besides keeping the patient safe and secure it is also important to keep the
attending nurse safe by using the proper lifting and moving techniques, as well as the ... Show more

Using the proper lifting or movement technique is also another way to reduce strain on the
musculoskeletal system. The nurse can do this by shifting the center of gravity lower and keeping a
wide base of support that does not move easily. Additionally making sure that the bed is in the
optimal position for any type of movement is essential because it keeps the patient and nurse safe.
Mrs. Simmons was discharged by the physician with a partial cast which would require
supplemental teaching from the nurse. To keep her range of motion and other joints mobile the nurse
must come up with a exercise routine that the patient feels they can keep up with, such as lifting
soup cans. If given a cane or crutches the nurse must explain how to use them properly, as well as
the different ways that she could use them to walk. Finally the nurse can help keep Mrs. Simmons
mobile by educating her on the importance of keeping mobile so that her other joints does not
atrophy. There are many reasons why it is important to keep patients mobile, even when they are in
a position where extended activity is not feasible. Mrs. Simmons is at risk for many health ailments
because of her immobility, some of which include pressure ulcers, muscle weakness, and
Atelectasis. Her attending nurse must keep these in mind when talking to her about repositioning
and also use the proper movement techniques and assistive devices. Not only does the nurse have to
keep Mrs. Simmons from developing health

My Career in Nursing Essay
I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at
many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse
interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities
that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who
are in need. Once I stared researching a career in nursing I realized that there were a lot more types
of nurses then I had originally thought. This confused me because there was a nurse for almost
everything! Then I finally decided on one and that was being a Registered Nurse (RN). A Registered

To have a successful career in nursing one must have certain skills and abilities. A nurse must
always be looking for ways to help her patients. Critical thinking is important because sometimes a
nurse must make quick decisions that may benefit or harm the patient. Medical tools are always
used while on the job and a nurse must know what these tools are and how to operate each one. A
nurse must also know what tool is best needed for a certain patient when trying to make them better.
Working well with people is an important factor in the nursing career; a nurse must always be
respectful to every patient regardless of the situation. Persuasion sometimes has to be used because a
patient may not want a certain medication so a nurse must help the person understand that it is what
is best for him or her health and their track to recovery. A nurse must always pay close attention to
their patients because if problems or concerns come up, a nurse must be the first to notice it. One
must complete certain levels of education in order to become a good RN and have a successful
career. You must have at least a high school diploma or a GED and must have had completed and
graduated from a nursing program (www.iseek.org). Then complete supervised clinical work
experience along with passing a national and state exam in order to receive a nursing license.

My Life Flight Nurse Is Not A Smoke Jumper
As we grow up, we change our careers at least once, maybe twice or even three times before we
realize what we want to be. When I was little, I was fascinated with being a speech and language
pathologist but then I grew a little taller and discovered smoke jumping. And up until my senior year
in high school I wanted to be a smoke jumper. But by the end of my senior year, I finally found my
career; a life flight nurse. Having a strict schedule, great job security, being people oriented, and
having an independent job are the things I look for most when I'm looking at career options. I want a
schedule where I can easily have an idea of what hours I will be working before the schedule is
printed. I am also looking for great job security in the fact that if I am going to be going to school, I
want to be able to do it once and be very good at it. I don't want to have to switch through jobs
because my current career isn't holding out based on the world. I like helping people and I want to
be able to save the ones I can. I am a very independent person and I would like to do a job where I
have my own independent time where I can take control and learn from my own mistakes, but
because I am also people oriented, I also would like to have a select few co–works that I can touch
base with to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking.
Life flight nurses need to be able to evaluate patients' needs as well as be able to provide them with
proper medical care and treatment until

A Interview With A Nurse
When was the last time you were in the hospital or a loved one was in the hospital, and ever
wondered where the nurse is, and they haven 't returned for hours. You finally push the assistance
button several times, and they open the door and hurriedly say, "I will be right back", then you don 't
see them for a while again. When they come back to check up on you, you explain to them what you
need, and then they send in a less qualified staff member to assist you. At this point, you become
very annoyed and frustrated not to mention scared to be admitted in the hospital to begin with. Little
do you know, your nurse has ten other patients and other non–nursing tasks that they are responsible
taking care of. They have been working a double shift and are extremely exhausted, and a large
stack of charts that they will have to do before their shift is over. As a patient, you now become
frustrated and are not happy about this; as a nurse, they are just as frustrated as you are, not only
because the amount of work they have but more importantly they can 't deliver the appropriate care
they long to give. For most hospitals they do not hire enough registered nurses for reasons that are
good and bad. This is an issue that needs to be addressed not only locally but nationally and on a
constant basis. When there are too many patients for one registered nurse to attend to, nurses
become exhausted, mistakes are made, and patients are unsatisfied. A minimum nurse to patient

Being A Nurse Is An Exceptional Choice For A Student 's...
On My Way To Saving Lives Did you know in 2010 there were 2.8 million registered nurses in the
nursing workforce (The U.S Nursing Workforce)? The growth in the nursing workforce surpassed
growth in the U.S. population. Job security, health benefits, perseverance and self–worth make
choosing the registered nursing program an excellent choice for a student's future. To begin, going to
school to be a registered nurse is an exceptional choice. The demand for nurses is high and only
keeps growing every day. There will always be a need for nurses and doctors. Going to school to be
a nurse is a significant choice because nurses/doctors will always be needed somewhere in the
world. No matter where a nurse decides to live they could most likely get a job in that line of work.
Since there is a high demand for nurses and doctors more and more jobs will be provided as the
years go on. It is a career where a nurse can feel secure in their area of work. Nurses could also go to
different countries and help patients from all over the world, which would give a nurse a great
chance to travel. Nursing has endless job opportunities. Secondly, a nurse will have great health
benefits. In the nursing career, wherever a nurse/doctor decides to work they will more than likely
receive health benefits. Dental is even included at most hospitals/clinics. This would mean saving
money on healthcare, which everyone would like to be able to do. When a nurse decides to start a

Signature Assignment: Moreno Medical Center: Issues in Managed Care Moreno Medical Center
(MMC) is a physician–owned full–service acute care hospital that has been around since 1975
(University of Phoenix, 2016). They recently experienced changes in payment with managed care,
so they started looking closer at the processes and patient satisfaction with their current procedures
(University of Phoenix, 2016). Currently, patient experience in the outpatient surgical clinic is low
due to long delays throughout the admission and discharge processes (MMC issues, 2016). They
hired a consultant to work with the surgical department on the issues that are apparent within the
department to help to improve the satisfaction of the patients that the department serves (MMC
issues, 2016). Today, we are going to take a closer look at MMC's characteristics, organizational
structure, social, and cultural aspects and they impact patient satisfactions and outcomes. We will
also take a look at the responsibilities of the leaders of the organization, delegation, and staffing, and
performance evaluations could impact patient satisfaction in the future. Organizational Structure and
Characteristics Organizational structure can be directly linked to an organizations' performance as
well as their success (Kribikova, 2016). In the case of MMC, their organizational structure could be

Patient Autonomy, Patient Safety And Risk
Patient autonomy, patient safety and risk are the main key issues which have arose from the scenario
of Ward 6 regarding patient, Mrs Green. These issues have been chosen to be addressed as it is
important that the patients in your care have the choice and are always safe and not at risk, to do this
The Institute of Medicine (2010) says nurses and other health professionals should work together to
ensure a safe delivery of quality care (cited in Kim et al. 2015 p.2491).
Patient autonomy, safety and risk are all important yet the decisions made from the student nurse on
Ward 6 will be responsible and accountable, however as the student nurse will be mentored they will
not have the accountability which a registered nurse does as "to be accountable; practitioners must:
have the ability to perform the activity or intervention, accept responsibility for doing the activity
and have the authority to perform the activity through delegation and the policies and protocols of
the organisation" (Royal College of Nursing 2016). The student nurses will be responsible for
communication with their senior and make sure they seek advice beforehand. Responsibility is
mentioned within accountability yet is different as Dohmann (2009) claims that nurses individually
have the responsibility to make sure that actions they carry out or delegate to must be done
appropriately and they are then accountable for the results from the actions that were taken.

There use to be just be regular nurses that had no certification at all. Just a regular registered nurse
would take care of everyone there was no specititizes. Hospitals would not admit a lot of children
with communicable disease because of high mortality rates. This changed when the first children's

Neonatal Nurse Essay
Less than 30 years ago the survival rate of premature babies was 25%, now that number has risen to
a survival rate of 90%(Dutton, Judy). The increase in this number is most likely due to the advanced
medicine and technology and the help of neonatal nurses. By having an advancement in technology
and medicine gives us a wider range to work with to help these premature babies survive. Neonatal
nurses are there to help contribute to the health of these babies so they can grow strong and healthy.

When coming into this career physically they can prepare to be on their feet a lot and bending over

Case of: Ellen Hughes Finnerty v. Board of Registered Nursing
Introduction to Case
According to FindLaw (2008), Ellen H. Finnerty, a registered nurse is requesting the Board of
Nursing in Texas to set aside the judgment where she was disciplined for gross negligence and
incompetence. The board's decision came after an incident where Finnerty chose not to comply with
a physician's order to intubate a patient before said patient was transferred to the ICU. In August
2002, Finnerty was working at Huntington Memorial Hospital as a charge nurse. A nurse (A. Magi)
that was caring for patient(J.C.) begin to display symptoms of respiratory distress, such as rapid and
labored respirations of 40 and an oxygen saturation of only 70%. With the assistance of a respiratory
therapist, the patient was suctioned and Nurse Magi received orders from the primary care physician
for 100% oxygen via a nonrebreather mask with the oxygen saturation to be maintained above 94%,
several different blood test, for the administration of a diuretic. After the orders were performed and
the patient was continually monitored, there were no changes to the respiratory rate. Another call
was placed to the PCP, there was an order given for the patient to be transferred to the ICU and stat
intubation. These orders were relayed to Finnerty, who then assessed the patient, but did not disclose
her findings with the medical staff. Lab results indicated that insuffient blood oxygenation and

Why I Want To Become A Travel Nurse

  • 1. Why I Want To Become A Travel Nurse My future starts with going to college and earning a degree in nursing. More specifically, i will earn a BSN (bachelors in science of nursing). I plan on attending University of Charleston in the fall. After spending about four years earning this degree i plan to join a traveling company and become a traveling nurse. I plan to only stay in North America when i travel. By becoming a travel nurse, i gain many benefits that most nurses don't get. My goal with this is to work a minimum of five years to gain and save enough money to support and pay for going back to college to gain either a master's or a doctorates degree. When i go back, i plan to specialize in neonatal nursing and eventually work up to becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner or a neonatal doctor. After earning that degree i will go back and continue traveling. Now my goals for accomplishing these future plans are fairly simple: study hard, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have always wanted to work with small children in the medical field. After doing research on nursing specialties i found the neonatal. Neonatal nurses work with babies that are born either too early(premature) and/ or are suffering from a life threatening situations such as drug addiction or born with aids. This would be a very tedious job because these babies are most of the time very tiny and the equipment you work with is tiny and if you're not careful you can instantly kill them or seriously injure them. One reason i drew interest in this field was because i have had family members who were born with something wrong or were premature. One of them was actually my brother. He was born with low blood sugar and digestive problems. If it wasn't for the nurses and the doctors my baby brother wouldn't have grown up as healthy as he did. I plan to after earning one of those degrees go back to traveling until i no longer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Career In Nursing In high school, I was thinking about becoming a teacher or a nurse. I eventually decided to major in nursing. In high school I had taken a variety of science courses which I enjoyed. My favorite course was anatomy and physiology. I also became certified in CPR,First Aid, and AED in March. Volunteering at the Michigan blood drive also motivated me to pursue nursing as a career. I knew I liked helping people and I wanted to take that further. As a result I choose to major in nursing. I wasn't surprise by the Strong Interest Inventory. I had already known what my top five interest areas were. In high school I took two courses where I took a similar assessment. The two courses were Careers Find Your Future and Career Planning. Both were online courses. The assessment was taken on a website called mydreamexplorer. The results were similar. My top five interest areas where in a different order than they were. Human services was at the top followed by healthcare services. Social and investigated were also my holland codes along with one other that I can't remember along with the order. In my meeting with Jenny we talked about which type of nurse I wanted to be and in what area I wanted to work in. I want to be a registered nurse and haven't given it much thought as to what area. Jenny printed out pages about registered nurses from different websites for me as references. She also referenced me to a career advisor to make an academic plan. Therefore I made an appointment ... • 5. Nurse Staffing And Quality Improvement Nurse Staffing by Acuity Despite many efforts to improve staffing numbers, there is often still a staff shortage among staff in hospitals and acute care settings. While the most obvious solution to short staffing is to hire more nurses, there are also other ways to make staffing more effective. A patient acuity tool is a staffing instrument that can be used to decide how much time and attention each individual patient requires. By knowing the acuity level of each patient, charge nurses can decide how many patients each nurse can be assigned to at a time. This essay describes the way a patient acuity instrument improves healthcare outcomes by promoting patient–centered care and improving on key nurse competencies including teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement, and safety measures. Role and Responsibility of the Nurse For nurses, the workload and patient assignments are the most significant factors in their perception of their ability to provide quality care to their patients. Of course, this is directly related to nursing job satisfaction. Nursing is a career in which patient satisfaction and caregiver satisfaction go hand in hand. When the nurse is happy, he or she provides high quality care to the patient, which in turn makes the patient happy. In addition, when the patient is pleased with the care they are receiving, this makes the nurse happy and improves nurse job satisfaction. Getting Involved One way that nurses can affect nursing staffing is by getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Emergency Department At St. Mary's Medical Center The unit and facility I chose for this paper is the emergency department at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana. I chose this unit because it is where I work full–time as a registered nurse. St. Mary's emergency department (ED) is a Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center that is open twenty–four hours a day and seven days a week. The nurses are all certified in basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). The majority of the nurses are also certified in trauma nurse core curriculum (TNCC). The nurses work eight or twelve–hour shifts. Nurses are either weekend–option meaning they only work weekends or must work every third weekend. St. Mary's emergency department has a total of forty beds. The unit is then split into different zones based on patient acuity: red zone, blue zone, yellow zone, and green zone. St. Mary's ED uses a five–level triage system. Red zone will typically see patients that are acuities one, two, and three. Red zone is always open. Red zone consists of three trauma rooms, sixteen exam rooms, and four hallway beds. Patients that are acuity one need life–saving measures. Examples of patients that are acuity two include strokes, chest pain, and mental health evaluations. Blue zone will typically see patients that are acuities three or four. Blue zone consists of eleven exam rooms and will have two to three nurses seeing patients with one team care specialist (TCS). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Nursing And Midwifery Board Of Australia ( Nmba ) National... ASSIGNMENT 2 As a healthcare professional a therapeutic relationship is fundamental in providing quality patient care. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) National Competency Standards for a Registered Nurse (2006) emphasises Collaborative and Therapeutic relationships as one of the four main domains which make up the standards. The assignment will explore one specific quality on establishing, maintaining and appropriately concluding a therapeutic relationship in relation to a Horizon Hospital and Health Service client, in this case Mary Young. The specific attribute chosen is 'establishes rapport with individuals/groups that enhances they ability to express feelings, fosters an appropriate context for expression of feeling.' This attribute is crucial in having the guiding principals for a safe professional practice. Nurse and patient relationships are referred to therapeutic relationships, they are a person–centred approach to care (Berman Et al 2012). For a therapeutic relationship to be effective in meeting the client/patient goals the nurse needs to 'earn the person's trust and respect.' Berman Et al (2012) suggests that the trust and respect of a patient can be earned through 'sound nursing knowledge and use of effective communication.' This is reflected in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's competency standards. These national standards that are regulated and followed by all nurses, they are updated regularly to remain contemporary and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Nursing Nurses ' Perceptions Of Motivators And Barriers... Specialized nursing care is necessary as patients' conditions, due to co–morbidities, become more complex. An initiative to encourage registered nurses (RNs) to pursue certifications in their specialty is becoming apparent. Many literatures have evidence supporting the positive impact of national certifications to the professional growth of nurses. Despite foreseeable barriers, many nurses find national certifications valuable to their practice. The purpose of this paper is to explore the transplant nurses ' perceptions of motivators and barriers to obtaining the Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN) certification. Problem Statement As a result of a growing evidence that indicates the positive elements associated with having a national certification, there has been an initiative for transplant nurses to acquire a CCTN certification. The problem is that not all nurses who work on a transplant unit see any incentive to pursue a CCTN certification. It is imperative to understand the explanations behind the lack of motivation for acquiring this specialty certification. A resolution could then be created to counteract any challenges associated with this initiative for professional development. Background and Scope of Importance Obtaining a nursing certification is a validation of a nurse's clinical competency and expertise in a nursing specialty. Extrinsic factors, such as an increase in salary, encourage a nurse to acquire further training and credentials. Personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Career As A Professional Registered Nurse The success as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) requires hard work, compassion and empathy. It is important to realize the journey is challenging, but is fulfilling. The registered nurse profession was established in the 1800s. For over two hundred years a registered nurse has helped those in need. The responsibilities of nurses is to educate their patients on many types of diseases as well as provide guidance to patients and their loved ones. It is important for nurses to express compassion, emotional stability, and empathy for patients. Being the largest healthcare occupation, registered nurses are able to work in a hospital, physician's office, as well as in home healthcare, with the option to travel. Registered nurses have the opportunity to travel across the United States to help care for patients whose access to healthcare is limited. In 2015, the average wage a registered nurse could earn was $67,500. The general probability of someone starting a career as a registered nurse is exceptional. In order to become a registered nurse, there are education requirements to be met. Regardless if the degree is for MSN, BSN, AND, or a diploma, certain requirements must be met. Typically the BSN degree takes up to 4 years, ADN 2 to 3 years, and a diploma up to 2 years to complete, with additional schooling to earn a BSN. A MSN allows a combination of BSN and accelerated programs for those who already hold a bachelor's degree. The courses required are anatomy, physiology, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Critical Appraisal And Its Impact On Nurses Essay Critical appraisal is the process of critical and systematical assessment of the outcome of a scientific research to judge its trustworthiness, dependability, confirmability, value and relevance in a particular context. Qualitative research is a methodical subjective approach used to explain lived experience, report the significance and nursing implications for Evidence–based Practice (EBP) Grove, Gray and Burns (2015). This writing will focus on identifying the components of a qualitative research process and attempt to determining the strength and weakness. It will also evaluate trustworthiness, credibility, meaningfulness of the research article "Impact of certification on certified perioperative nurses; A qualitative descriptive survey" (Schroeter, Byrne, Klink, Beier and McAndrew, 2012, p.35). Type of Research This is a phonological descriptive qualitative research that try to "fully describe, explain, and examine the phenomenon of certification and its impact on nurses" (Schroeter et al., 2012, p.36). According to Grove, Gray and Burns (2015) the level of this research would be placed in the last but one levels of research evidence. It is a single qualitative descriptive study as mentioned in the tittle of the article. The purpose of this article is repeated in a couple of paragraphs in the study. Page 35 and 36. • 19. Flight Nurse: An Interview and Overview My Profile of Business is on Nurses; but more specifically Flight Nurses. I chose to do a profile of business on flight nurses because I wanted to thoroughly know what the job and work environment entails, as well as the experience, education, and certifications requirements for the field. I also wanted to know the salary and characteristics of a good flight nurse. The information will be invaluable when I start on my path to becoming a flight nurse. In order to make the report well rounded I interviewed Lynn Manning. Lynn is currently a Nightingale Air Ambulance Flight Nurse at Norfolk General Hospital; she has been a registered nurse for 20 years and a flight nurse for four years. I used the information from the interview and websites such as Flight Nurse HQ, Nurse.com, and OSFHealthcare.com to create an in–depth profile of a Flight Nurse. A flight nurse, as Lynn Manning put it," is a registered nurse, who takes care of a patient in a pre– hospital setting, similar to the EMS system. We get the patient to the hospital by air instead of by ground." Digging a little deeper using the site flightnurse.com, it is much more complex than that. A flight nurse is a registered nurse who is highly trained in the area of critical or emergency care and must administer wide–ranging critical, emergency and pre–hospital care during a rescue or aeromedical evacuation on board aircrafts. The responsibilities of a flight nurse are extensive. A flight nurse must ensure the safety and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Pros And Cons Of Stereotypes In Society Stereotypes are a major issue in our general public. It puts labels about how man should act or live as indicated by their gender, race, personality, and different realities. This could influence people who maybe like distinctive things or do diverse exercises, however feel embarrassed about doing as such due to stereotypes. Furthermore, stereotypes like all men like sports or ladies are not as solid as men, are among the most widely recognized in our general public. Also stereotypes have created a misrepresentation of how every individual ought to be. We as a feature of the generation Y should know how these stereotypes could influence us as people. We ought to learn not to judge and prejudge about individuals on account of what we figure they ought to resemble, and should change our perspective about the generalizations that are profoundly established in our general public. For example, have you at any point mixed up a male nurse for a physician or a female physician for a nurse? The medical field generally was controlled by male doctors and female registered nurses. Going back to the 1800's, in any case, it was really men, among them Walt Whitman, which were the most punctual nurses (Male Nurse Magazine, 2012). Men in America were thusly prohibited from the field until around the 1950's when men started to reappear the field (Male Nurse Magazine, 2012). • 23. Professional Development And Lifelong Learning The profession of nursing is held to high standards by many individuals. "There is increasing recognition that health professionals should engage in continuing professional development and lifelong learning" (Casey & Clark, 2010, p. 35). The United States health care practice is continuously changing and reforming, therefore, health care professionals have to develop in a way to manage the complex health care related needs of the patients (Casey & Clark, 2010). "Increasingly, registered nurses will need to acquire and develop the skills and attributes required to deal with a range of new and emerging nursing responsibilities, as health and social care teams become more diverse" (Casey & Clark, 2010, p. 38). As a nurse, I continue to assess my current status professionally and personally, as well as plan my professional development for the future. Professional Self–Assessment It was not until I graduated high school and started college that I became completely determined and motivated to continuously improve my future and career. During my senior year in high school, my family underwent a difficult time with the death of my grandfather. He had been diagnosed with cancer and battled the cancer for a year before it took him from us. He actually passed only two weeks before my graduation date. It was not until I witnessed the wonder impact a group of nurses had on my grandfather's battle with cancer and my family that I realized what my career calling was to be. I ... • 25. Career Aspects Of Nursing : Career Challenges In Nursing Cameryn Reid English 111 Professor Douglas July 24, 2017 · Prompt 1 – Career Challenges Since I was young I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I liked the idea of helping people, especially kids. I went from wanting to be doctor, to a pediatrician, to a neonatal nurse, and I finally settled on a nurse. I knew nurses face many challenges that I am preparing myself to overcome. Working long hours being one of them. A deal breaker for most people to decide whether or not they want to be a nurse is the rumors of long shifts. The rumors are actually true. "Logbooks completed by 393 hospital staff nurses revealed that participants usually worked longer than scheduled and that approximately 40 percent of the 5,317 work shifts they logged exceeded twelve hours." (Rogers) These long hours are dangerous not only to the nurses but to the quality or their service and patience experience. Nurses are at a higher chance of error and burnout when they work more than 40 hours week . Nurse shortages, high patient acuity levels, and speedy admission and discharge cycles lead to the these long hours. On top of the long shifts with very little breaks it is hardly any recovery time. Often nurses work nontraditional shifts such as 3pm to 3am therefore they must disrupt the normal sleep schedule. Nurses in specialized units like surgery and dialysis may be required to work on call so 12 hour shifts are evolving into 24 hour shifts and becoming more common. (Rogers) Nurses aren't ... • 27. The Key Characteristics Of Nurses In Nursing According to Dictionary.com, a nurse is a person formally educated and trained in the care of the sick or infirm. Nurses are essential to the healthcare team, whether in a hospital or a doctor's office. "The nurse focuses on helping patients meet their needs, including physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs (Rijal N.D.)". Nurses are set in place to ensure that patients are treated correctly and suit their needs while they are caring for them. They also have more roles than just physically taking care of patients. Nurses are in charge of implementing the physician's orders, putting data in data in charts, and recording patient health vitals. The roles of nurses vary depending on the type of nurse. "For example, in the hospital setting the registered nurse is often the health care professional who spends the most time directly with the patient (Rijal N.D.)". With that being said, nurses must have a number of key qualities to be successful, such as passion, be self– motivation, and education. The first quality a competent nurse must have is the ability to have a passion for the work and the task they are completing. Nurses should be affectionate because it builds trust and a close relationship between the nurse and the patient. According to Kathrine Hardy, FNP, RN, "My joy is caring for my patients, and the trust that develops with that relationship. They fulfill me, and I help provide them with the care they deserve (Wojciechowski, 2016)". A connection or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Admissions Essay: My Journey To The Medical Field If my Freshman–self saw who I was today, he would definitely be flabbergasted that in five years he would be going directly into the healthcare field. When I first came to Syracuse University, I had the idea of being a biomedical engineer and helping to design the latest in medical devices. Two semesters of engineering, a severe lack of human interaction, and internship later I was on the path to becoming a physical therapist. I thought I was going to fall in love with physical therapy and by now I would be in a graduate program. The funny thing about life is that nothing rarely goes as planned. Every time was something new and exciting and even the aspects of the job that weren't traditionally exciting such as drawing blood kept me engaged. • 31. What Makes One A Leader? What makes one a leader; do they have to hold a certain position or title? A leader is someone who leads by example. In order to require something from others a leader has to exemplify on what needs to be done. A leader needs to achieve own excellence before demanding it from others. The medical field is composed of many leaders, from management to nurses to doctors, and each on of these titles comes with the responsibility of being a leader. Nurses are leaders who advocate, take care of their patients and through daily tasks exemplify leadership. For these past couple of months, I have had the privilege of having Deb Daniels as my preceptor at Baystate Noble surgical department. She is a registered nurse in the operating room, she takes on the role of a charge nurse on the unit, and most importantly she exemplifies leadership on this unit. On my last week of preceptorship, I had an opportunity to sit down and have an interview with Deb on her thoughts about leadership. The interview questions went as following: Question 1: How would you describe your leadership style? Deb stated that her leadership style is "casual". She focuses on fellow workers, hears them out and hopefully gains trust from them. If a leader has trust from their team many great things can be accomplished. Question 2: Do you have a mentor? Who is your mentor? How has he/she influenced you as a nurse and as a leader? Deb stated that her mentor was Brenda S., she was a a former co–worker in the beginning ... • 33. The Between Nursing And Nursing For nurses to obtain a license, they need to obtain a rigorous amount of classes which includes specific skills of teaching and learning, that gives them the knowledge, good judgment, and wisdom that they need in order to pass the board exam and to become registered nurses. Education is a vital tool to close the gap between knowledge and practice, with the only purpose of increasing quality of care and evidence based practice for the patients. Nursing students sometimes notices the difference between the demands of their tutor and the practicing nurses. When they go to clinical practice and they have to face the real situations on a daily basis in a regular floor, in which they are unable to come up with an answer from what they have learned in theory, that's where gaps start to fill in. The discrepancy between nursing as it is taught in school and nursing as it is practiced by students in the clinical setting has been an issue for a long period of time, which concerns learners, teachers and practitioners. There has been proven that nurses who are excellent in paper and school lack knowledge in the field. Studies has shown that many graduated nurses who do very well in school, are unable to put the pieces together in the actual field. If this theory–practice gap is not caught on time, it will definitely have consequences in the future because the principles are not well stablished to operate in the workplace. Furthermore, this can cause the new graduate to feel overwhelmed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My paper is about the role of the nurses during that transition, and how we can provide support to new parents. I wrote some of the things I've learned, and experienced during the transition process. I provided some common problems families go through during transition, and wrote some recommendations based on evidenced–based practice approach. I attached links of some of the resources available in Mecklenburg County that can be helpful for families who are in transition. Transitioning is a learning process, and can be complicated but it is also can be a lifetime achievement. Childbearing by definition is the "process of conceiving, being pregnant with, and giving birth to children" (Perry, 2014). "Although it seems undeniable that historical shifts in the motivations for having children have occurred, very little is known about the differential attitudes of parents regarding their own childbearing" (Groat, 1997). The concept of childbearing is quite simple, but the process can be a daunting task especially to some who has not gone through that process. The transition from childbearing to childrearing for families is not an easy road to take, but with proper education, and support it can be a smooth transition. Childrearing or parenting is the process of supporting your child from infancy to adulthood. Childrearing, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accelerated RN programs are an excellent choice for those who would like to become a nurse and have already completed a college degree in a field unrelated to nursing. They offer a fast track to a degree in nursing for previous college graduates. Here is an example: Marie, a thirty year old mother of two, majored in journalism in college. However, she has found it difficult to find work after the newspaper she was writing for switched to an online publication and laid off much of its writing staff. Prospects for future hiring in the area she lives are not promising for journalists, however the need for registered nurses is very strong. Marie has an interest in obtaining a degree in nursing, but she cannot afford to return to college for four or more years. Fortunately, someone told Marie about an accelerated RN program in her area. After reviewing her case and the previous classwork she completed for her journalism degree, Marie was informed by an administrator of the nursing program that she could become a registered nurse through the accelerated program in less than a year. • 39. Professional Growth Through Collaborative Efforts And... Introduction There are many special events that I hold meaningful in my current profession. I work as a registered nurse on the surgical specialties unit and have been there for thirty years. Most of the patients that I care for are post–surgical patients. One particular event that I will be discussing throughout this paper is that of an extremely painful patient. By utilizing the transformational model I will be able to show how I have established professional growth through collaborative efforts and leadership skills. Clinical Narrative I received report from the night nurse stating that S.D. had not had the best night. She was a twenty–two year old female post op day one, status post appendectomy. It was her first surgery so in addition to her uncontrolled pain she was also very anxious, as was her mother. I was told she had not dangled her legs on the side of the bed nor ambulated since returning from surgery. I knew this was not acceptable. When I did my morning assessment I could tell she was still in quite a bit of pain despite receiving frequent pain shots the entire night. Obviously, no one had taken the time to ensure that the medication was working for her. I asked her if she had gotten any relief and she stated, "no". I immediately paged the resident, explained her situation, and answered all questions regarding her status. This particular situation not only demonstrations collaborative practice but also is an example of professional communication. "It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Registered Nurses Have The Responsibility Registered Nurses have the responsibility to provide specialized and efficient patient care, such as assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to every single patient under their care. Recent changes in hospital regulations by regulatory bodies and agencies are forcing hospitals to increase their amount of registered nurses without receiving any type of financial reimbursement. In response hospital and healthcare organizations are terminating non–licensed staff such as certified nurse assistants, medical technicians, health unit coordinators, transportation assistants, and janitors to compensate for loss of revenue. Nurses are now forced to do these non– nursing care tasks, such as taking garbage and laundry out, cleaning equipment, beds, stocking shelves, and more. The increase in workload causes nurse to decrease nurse–patient relationship, increased rate of patient mortality and morbidity, and a decrease work satisfaction. Registered nurse workload directly related to patient outcomes and satisfaction The registered nurse is a licensed practitioner that is responsible of multiple duties during each shift assignment, all directed towards patient care. Direction Of Future Healthcare Professional Essay Jody Duncan Central Louisiana Technical Community College Ferriday Campus Mrs. Lipsey 3 October 2016 Health Care Occupation Research Paper Direction of Future Healthcare Professional While discussing the world of healthcare as a whole and thinking personally more about building and developing a skill set needed as a future healthcare professional, there are many different routes one can take in their education towards their potential area of specialty. As one chooses a health care occupation they must think long and hard about what they truly want to do the rest of their life, while keeping in mind that it needs to be something that person will strive to be their best at each and every day. If someone loves what they do they will never work a day in their life, or at least that is what I have always been told, and that is a goal of mine. As a future registered nurse I hope to work in the area of critical care nursing. It is something that one must have the educational background in, something one must desire to do, and one must be willing to work towards and attain the skill set to do so. This area of nursing is not to be taken lightly, and for a good reason. With that being said, critical care nurses have a challenging job to say the least. These nurses are also known as ICU nurses. Their job requires them to use their advanced skills to aid in the care of patients they are treating. The patients that are being seen by the critical care nurses are at high ... Horizontal violence is not a topic that medical faculties discuss on a day–to–day basis, but it is an enormous problem within the health care system. In this research the author looks at bulling from a registered nurse (r.n.) aspect .The effects on patient centered care can be detrimental for patients and r.n.'s. The work place needs to be a safe place for not only the patients but also the employees. With the rise of new graduate nurses who are employed by the medical facilities, they too are starting to face horizontal violence within the first year on the job, which leads to retention of nurses in the medical field. Medical facilities have to start paying more nurses to stay late for work because without adequate staffing the job duties tend to get behind. Facilities have to pay nurses more money to keep them on call or higher contracting nurses. Hospitals, clinics and other patient care facilities continue to lose money every day when nurses are bullied because it also effects patient satisfaction. "Occupational exposure to bullying decrease job satisfaction"(Ceravolo, Schwartz, Foltz–Ramos, & Castner, 2012, p. 600). Being a nurse who is a victim of bulling on a day–to–day basis will cause stress in the nurse's life. If the bulling does not cease in the facilities, nurses will not be completely satisfied with their job and retention will remain a problem for many hospitals and clinics. Nurse retention is another problem that patient care facilities deal with because losing a nurse only means the facility will have to pay more money to replace another nurse. In a retrospective analysis the cost of hiring a new nurse average around $62,000 to $ 67,000 to recruit, orient and hire a r.n. (Wilson, Diedrich, Phelps, & Choi, 2011). • 47. The's Theory Of Structural Empowerment With the global nursing shortage, organizations are looking for strategies to retain nurses. One strategy for nurse retention is, encouraging nurses to get certified, according to research studies. The population affected by nurse certification is the nurse, the patient, and the organization. Organizations need to invest into getting nurses certified in their specialty area. Research proves that certified nurses' self–perception is a sense of empowerment. The Iowa Model of Evidence–Based Practice will be utilized to guide the change to practice. A literature search was conducted using one of the world's largest database search engines, the Academic Search Complete (EBSCO). The search resulted in over 300 journal articles, which were then evaluated and categorized using the evidence hierarchy rating system. The theoretical framework was the Kanter's theory of structural empowerment. Fostering the nurses' self–perception of empowerment, which comes with being certified is a mediator of personal growth; increased competence and confidence; enhanced knowledge and self–esteem; and ultimately retention. Specialty nurse certification proves the nurse continued commitment to education and practice, which are ongoing instead of episodic, and thus more consistent with the changes in healthcare. With the rising cuts in healthcare a constraint organization may face with the implementation of a plan to encourage nurses to get certified is funding. Nurse Certification The goal ... • 51. Becoming A Nurse At The Age Of 17 Some people "inherit" a career. Some go to school and later decide on one. As for me, I always knew that I wanted to become a nurse. It brings me great joy seeing others smile, and being able to help them. Since I was younger, I was always the "go to" person when it came to helping. Whether it be household chores, homework or projects, coaching tee–ball, or mentoring at the girls and boys club. My "calling" so to speak, appeared when I had the opportunity to join the Air Force at the age of 17. I was put on the delayed entry program for a year after taking the ASVAB test. After being on active duty for 2 years, I got deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan. This was my second tour, and it was then that I got my first taste of an actual Emergency operating room. I was able to scrub in on a few surgeries, and instantly fell in love with the thought of becoming a nurse in the ER. Careers today have evolved tremendously. Personality plays a vital role in the supplier/ consumer relationship. With my helpful background, I feel as though nursing is the right career path for me. First, let's explore the difference between careers today, and those of the past. In the past, if you had a "Peon" job such as a cook at a restaurant, or a stagnant job (factory worker), some considered that to be a career opposed to what the standard career choice is considered as in today's time. I personally consider it just a job, or means of barely providing. When I look at career choices, I look to see if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Joint Commission standards are a benchmark that most hospitals use, if your hospital is not complying with Joint Commission standards it is likely you will risk non–reimbursement for treatment of care. You also want your unit to be practicing according to The Code of Ethics for Nurses "The code of ethics establishes the ethical standard for the profession and provides a guide for nurses to use in ethical analysis and decision–making" (Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive). Having a base knowledge of the Texas Department of States Health Services would also be a huge help in keeping your unit up to current codes and standards. I was assigned to a soft–spoken intelligent nurse that had a giving and a sweet disposition. We were assigned a total of five patients, of which four we introduced ourselves and assessed. It is not that the day was slow, but my nurse was assigned to go to the front of the E.D. at 11:00 to work at the registration desk. The hospital has placed registered nurses at the registration desk to obtain the initial assessment of patients entering the E.R. doors to determine the priority and level of treatment needed. The first patient of the morning was a female that presented with a recent diagnosis of swollen salivary glands and she thought she was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics she started taking yesterday; or she wondered if she was just swollen from her recent diagnosis and that's what was causing dyspnea and shortness of breath. Intermittently Respiratory administered an albuterol treatment and we performed vital signs, assessed her and listened to her lungs with our stethoscopes (before breathing treatment), which was unnecessary for the fact that we could hear that she had stridor from standing across the room. As the nurse was documenting the patient's vital signs, she made the comment under her breath that the protocol for the E.D. when someone comes in for shortness of breath, is to obtain an electrocardiogram (ECG), but she continued to say how the Nurse Practioner (N.P.) on ... • 57. Who Is The Registered Nurse Standards For Practice? The number one priority of the Registered Nurse should be to provide holistic, patient–centred, safe and evidence based care to every patient. Patients who are admitted into hospital or seek healthcare services externally through clinics or the community usually expect to receive the safest and the highest quality of care possible from that facility. Registered Nurses have a major responsibility to ensure that this is achieved. To help guide nurses and other healthcare workers in the right direction, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia created and enforced the "Registered Nurse Standards for Practice". These standards aim to assist healthcare practitioners in providing high quality and safe care to every client. The standards also aim to prevent any form of harm or negative consequence to the patient during and after their time in any healthcare facility. This paper will discuss the reportedly increasing issue of elder abuse, the responsibilities of the Registered Nurse and the associated Standards of Practice when faced with a patient or family that is experiencing this type of harm. The standards discussed in this paper will be Standards 2.5, 2.9 and 6.6. The act of "Elder Abuse" is defined as "any act occurring within a relationship where there is an implication of trust, which results in harm to the older person." (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, 2014). Abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, social, nutritional, sexual and/or general neglect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mrs. Simmons was discharged by the physician with a partial cast which would require supplemental teaching from the nurse. These issues have been chosen to be addressed as it is important that the patients in your care have the choice and are always safe and not at risk, to do this The Institute of Medicine (2010) says nurses and other health professionals should work together to ensure a safe delivery of quality care (cited in Kim et al. 2015 p.2491). Patient autonomy, safety and risk are all important yet the decisions made from the student nurse on Ward 6 will be responsible and accountable, however as the student nurse will be mentored they will not have the accountability which a registered nurse does as "to be accountable; practitioners must: have the ability to perform the activity or intervention, accept responsibility for doing the activity and have the authority to perform the activity through delegation and the policies and protocols of the organisation" (Royal College of Nursing 2016). The student nurses will be responsible for communication with their senior and make sure they seek advice beforehand. Responsibility is mentioned within accountability yet is different as Dohmann (2009) claims that nurses individually have the responsibility to make sure that actions they carry out or delegate to must be done appropriately and they are then accountable for the results from the actions that were taken. 240 The Royal College of Nursing (2016) ...
