This is my music poster analysis for Kings Of Leon.

1. Music advertanalysis –Kingsof Leon
Thisis the albumadvertisementforkingsof
Leon’salbum‘Onlybythe night’.Thisbandfall
underthe alternative rockgenre.
Character- the four separate imagesonthis
albumadvertincludesphotosof each individual
memberof the band.The imagesatthe topof
the advertare makingdirectaddresswiththe
camera,thisis somethingthatwill draw
audiencesintothe posterandwill make them
curiousas to whatit isabout. These imageshave
beenplacedontop of a black backgroundas it
makesitstand outand easilynoticeable.One of
the characters on the frontis wearingdark
clothingandthe otheris wearingwhite.This
couldsuggestnightvsday whichishintedbythe
name of the album.One of the members of the
bandhas theirhair pushedoutof theirface and
the otherone has it infront, It isalso clearthat
one of the membershaslonghairby the image
on the bottomleft. Thiscouldhighlighttheir
individualityandhowtheyeachbringdifferent
thingsto the bandas theyare all brothers.They
are pullingaverystraightfacedexpressionwhichcouldsuggestseriousness.
Narrative events- The albumadvertdoesnotshow aclearnarrative storyalthough the image onthe
albumadvertshowsthe bandmixed withwhatappearstobe an owl.Owlsare animalswhichare
generallyseenatnightwhichrelatestothe title of the albumbeing‘Onlybythe night’.The title of
the albumconnotesthe nocturnal animal andfitsinwell withthe overall style of the advert.The
imagesonthe advertalso appearto have a nightvisioneffectwhichagainreflectsthe name of the
album.All of these elementscouldaddtothe ideathatthe songs onthe albumcouldhave been
createdduringthe night,theycouldalsosuggestthat the songson the albumhave a nightlife feel.
Iconography- asI have alreadydiscussed,the owl onthe albumadvertisiconicof nighttime asthis
time of the day is one of the veryfewtimeswe generallysee theseanimals.The greendull colours
that have beenusedonthe advertalsoadd to the nightvisioneffectthathasbeenincorporatedin
the images.The colourblackis alsoiconicto thisalbumadvertas thisisstereotypicallyusedbythe
rock genre. The bandhas chosento use a fontand colour that wouldreplicate the writingthatwould
be seenona nightvisioncamera.
Setting– itis not clearwhere the settingof these imagesisasthe backgroundisveryplainanddoes
not reallysuggestanything.The nightvisioneffectthathasbeenusedonthe photographscould
suggestthattheyare outside andthe audience are lookingatthemthrougha nightvisioncamera.
The owl also giveshintsthatthe settingof the imagesisoutside asthisiswhere the animalsare
generallyfound.

2. Technical andaudiocodes- the imagesof eachmemberof the band have beenshotusinglow key
lighting,thisrepresentsthe alternative rockgenre thatthe bandare goingfor.The low keylighting
alsointensifiesthe nightvisioneffectthathasbeenputonto the photos as if the audience are
lookingintoalens.Itis alsoclearthat the image of the owl hasbeeneditedintothe imagesof the
membersof the band.The colour greenisalsoveryfadedwhichmakesthe image lookquite eerie
and dull.
