How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
Relation of the Website to the Music Video
The website is a clear reflection of the music video.
The background of the whole website is the same
image of the long line of run-down garages. The
basic colour scheme of the website makes sure that
your eye isn’t diverted away from the artist and
what they have done. The photo slideshow on the
homepage begins with showing the rapper mid-
action expressing himself with the use of his hands.
The two projects are combined well as all the
images on the website were either screenshots
taken directly from the video or were taken by me
personally on location. There are no special effects,
just like the music video, you get what you see.
Relation of the Digipak to the Music Video
The same as the website, all the images used for
the covers were all screenshots. The colour
scheme for the left inner side, where the lyrics
are, shows the conflicts between the man and
the woman. The white lyrics on a plain black
background show there is a clear message that
the lyrics were written for. These two colours are
on the opposite side of the colour spectrum, just
like what the woman feels like when she tries to
runaway.
Genre Conventions
Throughout this project, I have tried to keep to the
forms and conventions of this genre to the best I
can. I have included no image effects in the music
video and Digipak which is normal for a song in this
genre. Other British rap songs all try to relate to
how their upbringing was hard and the constant
struggle to get themselves and their families out of
this spiral of decline. This is very different to the rap
genre in America. They like to brag and show off
their belongings, whether it be money, clothes, cars
or girls. Over here in the UK, they make it more
relatable to the common young teenager.
