2. INTRODUCTION
 Geographic Information System (GIS) is the science of linking data
to locations in order to explore spatial relationships.
 It deals with the analysis and management of geographic
information.
 The course aims to introduce the methods of managing and
processing geographic information due to urban and planning
point of view.
 Emphasis will be placed on the nature of geographic information,
data models and structures for geographic information, geographic
data input, data manipulation and data storage, spatial analytic and
modeling techniques.
 Mainly, it is important to establish that GIS is way more than just
maps.
 For example, by evaluating the relationship between different spatial
information, the best location for new development or locate pollution
point sources can be identified.
