2. • A new piece of technology which I was previously unfamiliar with is
the blogging website Blogger. On Blogger, we posted every part of our
coursework from research, planning and the final product.
• Blogger is an incredibly helpful tool because it allows us to embed
PowerPoints, documents, videos and images.

3. My most commonly used software was PowerPoint, due to its ease of access and reliability. It also allows me to
insert pictures and text and be creative with my case studies.
In the research and planning stage of my media product, I used PowerPoint to produce most of my case studies on
other thriller films.
I used the website
Slideshare to upload
the PowerPoints onto
the internet, where I
could then embed
them onto my blog. To
the right are two

Man case studies.

4. A website I enjoyed using was Prezi, which I utilized during both my research and evaluation stages. Prezi is
a very creative tool which allows for innovative presentations. Unlike PowerPoint, Prezi uses ‘paths’ instead
of slides which transition smoothly between each other. When a Prezi is finished, it provides an embed
code which can be pasted onto our blog.

Although Prezi is a very creative
software, I preferred using
PowerPoint because it does not
require internet connection so can be
used at any time, unlike Prezi.

5. Internet
• The internet was absolutely essential to both the production of our film and its research.
• One example of the internet we used is the website IMDB, which allowed me to research
characters and films similar to ours. Also, IMDB allows us to see which age groups and genders
liked certain films which allowed us to pick out certain conventions popular with different
groups.
• Another incredibly helpful website was YouTube, which allows exhibition of many different
videos. I used YouTube because I could use it to find scenes from different films which I could
screenshot and paste into case studies to compare with my own film.
• From using these websites, I learnt a lot about how essential the internet is for the research of
movies.

6. Social Media
Social Media (Facebook messenger) was very helpful for
our media coursework for many reasons.
One example is that we could organise when to meet up
and carry out our shoot. Without out it, we would have
found trying to organise times which work for everyone
very difficult.
As well as organisation, social media allowed us to share
images such as our mind maps and planning sheets so
that we could all successfully post them onto our blogs –
therefore helping each other with our coursework.
Finally, we could also share tips and advice for our case
studies and evaluation over Facebook.

7. During the Filming
• During our shoot, we used a Panasonic HDC-TM55 digital camera which we found was incredibly reliable and
easy to use. Because of its play-back ability, we were able to review footage we had taken to judge whether
or not it was adequate enough for our film. One example is the very beginning of the film, in which we found
that the character was hidden by the tree so was not visible to the camera and audience.
• Another very valuable piece of technology was the ContourROAM digital camera, which allowed us to film
underwater and make our film very different and diverse from other’s.
We also used Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 6 memory card,
which gave us more than enough space to contain all of
our footage. Due to its low cost, it also allowed us to retain
our low budget .
