2. The genre I have chosen to research is dark comedy.
A black comedy is generally a film which makes light of a generally more
serious topic such as, death, rape genocide, cannablism and generally horrible
/ taboo subjects.
These films are often seen as more disturbing than offensive and black
comedy's tend to have a very limited audience.
Some extremely renowned films such as American Beauty, Fight Club, Little
Miss Sunshine and In Bruges all come under the genre of black comedy.
3. The audience of dark comedies generally depend more on the type of viewer,
it is less generalized by age groups although dark comedies are for a more
mature 18+ audience. The audience for dark comedies are those who are not
easily offended by the particularly taboo subjects that these films tend to
cover. I think the target audience age range would be around 18-36 as my
film would contain some quite offensive and delicate topics.
4. What I have found is that generally the audience for my film
would depend because of the subjects and issues that dark
comedies tend to cover as they could be seen as offensive to
some audiences, although the audience would be an older
audience of around 18 – 36. In my film opening I will try and
make it as audience friendly as possible but I will need to make a
light of the taboo subject I am covering as then it would not be a
dark comedy.
