2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Target audience
1. Target Audience
My Target Audience:
Due to my crime sub-genrethere will be a very niche target audience, mostly
thriller fans however those of which enjoy the detail of the crime, considering
the push behind the ‘villain’. The film would be aiming for an adult mostly
audience, ranging from18 – 45, this is becausethey can understand mature,
violent materials – That makes up a crime film. These genres together are not
very common and there haven’tbeen many films of this, however films that
have been made in this sub-genrehavebeen very successful, suggesting
audiences like this collaboration. My target audience will predominantly be
males as, stereotypically males enjoy gore and violence more. However the
film has a possibility to attract females as the psychology behind the violence
and crime would and could interest them. My films typical audience would be
introverted and are a keen thriller game player, usually and possibly known as
‘nerds’ or ‘geeks’. They would not be predominantly active people, more of the
stay at home – only traveling becausethey need to (To go to the cinema, a
home like area; food, comfy seats etc.). On the ABC1 social class scale my
typical target audience would be a small range, from D to B class – these
include semi-skilled workers to professionals. Audiences watch thriller films to
see what an alternative of their life could be like, to gain a thrill. Audiences also
watch thriller to gain the fight or flight
feeling that sometimes can cause
adrenalin, or like to be on the edge of their
seat. My audiences will have a wide
enjoymentof thriller films, ranging from
typical USA made films to independent film
companies from all over the world.
This would be the kind of look my target
audience will appear as. Slightly older and
un-looked after. Nerdy and unfashionable.
