Fall of Germany
Thesis
• After a long, hard struggle, Allied
forces finally turned the tables back
on Nazi-Germany, who were for
once put on the defensive. Once
they were on the defensive, things
snowballed from there, leading to
the fall of Germany, and the victory
of the Soviets as well as the Allies.
Germany’s army was slowly but steadily
decreasing in size, power, and resources.
Introduction
As the Allies began to encroach on their territory,
Hitler’s last big offensive battle would come to be
known as the Battle of the bulge, since the Allied
lines bent backwards but would not break.
After the Allies won this battle, Germany would be on the
defensive.
On March 7, the Allied forces crossed the Rhine River and began advancing
toward Berlin.
On February 1945, Allied forces reached the Rhine
River in Germany, which was the German’s last
major line of defense.
The Soviets, on the other hand, were already
fighting the Nazi Germans in Russia. They
bgan pushing the Germans back toward
Germany from the East.
After winning the Battle of the Bulge, Allied
forces began fighting to free France from its
puppeteer government, so that together they
may take on Germany from there. When they
freed France they began pushing the
Germans back toward their homeland from
the West.
On April 16, the Soviets broke through
German defenses, and reached the city of
Berlin 5 days later.
Body II
May 7, 1945 – Donitz accepted and signed the
terms of an unconditional surrender.
Donitz tried to surrender to Britain
and the US, and keep battling the
Soviets, but the Allies would not
agree to let him surrender unless
he surrendered unconditionally.
On April 30th Hitler also comitted suicide, leaving
Germany in the hands of Grand Admiral Karl
Donitz.
Being unorganized, and not well-
equipped, the Soviets soon
pushed through the city and to its
center. On April 30th they
captured the Reinstag.
On April 16th, the Soviets and the
Germans commenced in the Battle
of Berlin.
May 8, 1945 was declared V-E
Day, standing for Victory Day
against the Germans in Europe.
Conclusion
TO BE CONTINUED…
Now the Americans would be able to focus on
winning their war with Japan…
