2. Throughout the creation of both the
film poster and the magazine front
cover, we received constant
feedback from audiences
throughout. This helped to guide our
decision making in what things
worked well and what things did not.
This audience feedback helped us
to generate our final products which
will be used to promote our film
‘Poker’ and draw in audiences.
3. Sight & Sound Front Cover
The first stage we did to create the front cover was to take pictures of our director of which we wanted to
use as the main image on the front cover. Once we had taken a range of photos we picked the best one
and asked an audience whether they could see this on a magazine front cover, of which 71% said ‘no’. And
only 29% said ‘yes’. In regards to this feedback we went and took a range of new photos.
4. Having taken audience feedback into consideration we went and
took a range of new photos. These photos immediately
appeared a lot better quality and looked a lot more professional.
The photo without the ‘x’ underneath it is the one we decided to
use as after trying them all out in photoshop we found this was
the right distance and right pose that we wanted.
To follow up from previously we went back and asked the
audience if they could see this photo on a magazine front cover
and the responses were 100% yes, therefore we went ahead
and started editing with this photo.
5. This was the one of the first drafts that I
made and here is some things I
received from constructive feedback:
No issue number or date
A 20 page special on one
film isn’t realistic and
there probably wouldn’t
be that much.
The font doesn’t stand out
that well in black.
This isn’t the font used on a
real sight & sound front cover.
6. So, taking all the
feedback throughout the
construction of the Sight
& Sound front cover i
was able to create the
final draft of the front
cover.
All the negative comments I
took on board as
constructive criticism and
made adjustments to the
front cover accordingly, so
that I was able to make the
best cover that would attract
the most readers. Therefore
receiving feedback from
audiences meant I was able
to create something that I
know that they would want
rather than creating
something that I liked and
hoping that the audience
would like it aswell.
7. Film Poster
These are the first initial edits that
we made of the film poster, we
used two different backgrounds to
give different effects, and give the
audience a choice as we were
unsure about which one we liked
better.
1 2
8. Taking the audience feedback into consideration we decided to move forward with the red background and
start to make different edits using this background. After creating the first edit we decided we wanted to use the
title from the actual trailer which uses the poker chip instead of an ‘O’. We had received comments from
audiences saying that they liked the reflection of the money on his face, so we decided to definitely use this in
our final design.
9. We wanted to try and put 2 of the main
characters on the front cover so that there was
more meaning to it. This also made the poster
a lot more interesting and we felt that it would
leave the audience questioning what the film
was about and encourage them to go and
watch the film.
I asked a selection of people for their opinion on this
front cover, below are some of the responses:
10. Final Edit
Taking this feedback into account and the feedback of all
previous edits we were able to create this final edit of our
film poster.
We made sure that we:
● Made the title effective and stand out without it just
being a blank font.
● Used a black background but added texture to it so
it wasn’t so basic.
● Put additional information on the poster in the form
of a credit block so that the audience knew about
information to do with the film.
● We used two people on the poster but we felt that
having them not facing each other created more
meaning.
