3. Mise en scene
• In the video ‘Hero of the Vay’ by ‘Metallica’ the mise en scene makes the
viedo, it utilises an old and retro look, parodying the decaying spirit of
Americana. The tv shows on tv are all old and dated being watched in an
old house, wallpaper on the walls and the colour is all black and white, the
lighting is very low key and dull. At the end electronic birds pop out of the
main characters ears, these making it a modern, so the contrast between
modern technology and retro style works really well, it captures the
audience really well.

There are many different, varied camera shots
through the production, it tells a story with
use of black and white. There is pleanty of
close ups showing the emotion on the faces of
each actor, mainly the male actor. It also
shows the band and all the instruments used
through the production.
5. Editing
• Long duration static shots, slow paced, the
camera stays still and the action happens in
front of it.
• Many of Corbijn’s videos are shot in black and
white with some utilising grainy filters
creating a distinctly gritty feel.
