Why I have picked this photographerI have picked this photographer in
specific to look at because I am impressed with his macro photography skills as its very
unique and specific in the sense that he has a very unique style to his work. His work is
very different to other photographers I have looked at as he uses specific techniques to
make them stand out. Also I assume he uses Photoshop as some of his images are highly
edited, this is not a bad thing though as they still look very natural but enhanced. There
are also a range of portfolios on the website which are all of high quality making his
work trustworthy. I find his work very inspiring to look at because it had given me some
ideas of what to include in my unit.
This image is one that caught my eye specifically; I thought it was very attractive mainly
due to the colours, the contrast of the warm
colours against the dark in the corner of the
photo make the butterfly’s stand out. I also like
how the image has been edited as the
curviness add affect to the photo. This is
something I would like to look more into as to
how it has been done, as I am intrigued to find
out how this has been edited. I also like the
positioning of the butterfly’s as they are not
directly in the centre. There looks like there is
a lot going on in this photo, which make it
attractive.
This image is very basic but I think that why I like it because
even though its basic its still attractive, this may be because
there is so little going on in the photo. I like how the
background is blurred because this makes the bubbles stand
out more. I also like the contrast of the warm colours against
the blues; this gives of a mixture of affects. This image looks
like it would have been very hard to capture however I think
that’s why it looks so effective. Also I like the fact that you can
see very close up detail.
I like all the different things going on in this photo and how
each thing is so detailed. I like how you can see
the hairs on the flower as this shows how
detailed the photo is. The angle this photo has
been taken on is very effective as its been taken
at an low angle which exaggerates the flower
and the background. One thing I like about this
photo is how the colour of the flower is very
bright compared to the rest of the photo as it
stands out.

2. I like how all the colours in this image are bright and exotic,
they bring a sense of excitement to the photo which draws in
the viewer. I like how the background isn’t just one colour as it
complements the main subject of the image. I am not
completely sure how this image has been achieved but it looks
almost like a water splash. This image is also quite plain
however due to the colours I think it adds excitement to the
photo. I like how the splash has been centered in the middle as
it looks very professional this way and also of a high quality.
How this photographer has influenced me
This photographer has influenced me as they have given me some new ideas for some
shoots. They have shown me that colours and editing is important within images as this
can determine how attractive they look. After looking at his work I have noted how
much detail macro photography can bring, I have noticed that within this macro
photography the backgrounds are normally blurred to emphasize the main subject. This
is something I have taken note of as I have realized this can bring out extra detail you
may not have necessarily noticed before hand. I have also learnt the importance of
angles, as by looking at his images I have noted that some of the angles emphasize the
main subject more.
Summary
Overall, I have really enjoyed looking at this macro photography, I like the portfolio
because not all the images are based around one subject for example nature. They are all
different and have different meanings, therefore I found them very attractive, also I
didn’t think any of the images were similar what so ever. This is important as it
differentiates each photo. I have gained lots of inspiration from this portfolio, which I
can now put into my own work in my own way.
