Ida Movie
Ida is a 2013 film directed by Pawel Pawlikowski. It tells the story of a young woman about to take her vows as a Catholic Nun in 1962 Poland. Ida
was orphaned as a child during the German occupation of World War II and must meet her aunt who informs Ida that her parents are Jewish. Ida is a
fascinating portrait of post–war Poland. The film contains undertones of violence, betrayal, and guilt even when important historical events (such as the
German Occupation of Poland and the Holocaust) are never mentioned. There are long–shots of Ida and her aunt driving in the empty Polish
country–side, which makes the landscape seem barren and the population sparse. The long and often static camera shots emphasize the dramatic and
unspoken nature of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film uses montage to represent the warped sense of time experienced by the depressed Justine. The first scene of the movie is of a slow–motion
montage that depicts the entire plot of the film in a matter of minutes. Similar to how the montage condenses and slows time, I believe that Justine
experiences time the same way as her mood becomes increasingly depressed. Another scene that involves montage manipulating time is Justine's first
dance at her wedding reception. The scene cuts between Justine dancing with many different people. How long was she dancing for? This indicates
that time in the film is subjective and is told through the warped perspective of Justine. Similar to how Justine exits the party in moments that seem
disconnected from the narrative of the party, Lars von Trier cuts the film that skews temporal relationships. For example, the beginning montage
sequence shows the end of the world, after which the next scene is Justine and her fiancГ© arriving late to her wedding. How does the beginning
sequence fit into the rest of the film? Does it impact later scenes? Likewise, the audience does not feel how late Justine and her fiancГ© are because
it is at the beginning of the film. How could they be late when film just started? This skewed sense of time and temporality is carried through the rest
of the film making it feel like a

Hamlets Oedipus Complex Essays
Various works of literature contain characters who embody the elements of the classic Oedipus Complex, that of a son with an undue and unhealthy
attachment to his mother. D.H Lawrence’s Sons and Lovers, along with other early modernist works, shows how a son’s
bond to his mother can lead to that character’s major downfall. Even earlier than works of the late 19th Century does the Oedipus Complex
appear, in this case, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shakespeare’s play about thePrince of Denmark shows the beginning of
an Oedipal Complex, with Hamlet’s jealousy of his uncle Claudius for marrying his mother Gertrude and the rage that
Hamlet’s emulation causes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hamlet’s explains his rage in the first act of the play, but it is not until scene 4 of the third act that we see the full view of his Oedipus
Complex. Here, Gertrude is joined by Hamlet in a bedroom moments after Polonius, the Queen’s counselor, advises her to warn Hamlet
that “his pranks have been too broad to bear with'; (3.4.2). Hamlet, upon killing Polonius, compares his “bloody'; act to that of

these events. She describes their daily routines, the process that takes place for them to get food, and how they have to take precautions. The

main events in her life as she grows older. In many ways the readers can connect with Anne. Anne describes her feeling as if she were trapped, most
readers understand this feeling. Although not many people went through the exact event that Anne suffered through, they can still identify with this
feeling from other experiences. People can feel trapped within their own home or even at school, the weight of responsibilities fall on them and it is
if they are being trapped with those burdens. Time can also feel like a trap to some people. In the Secret Annexe the residents knew that the war would

The Diary Of A Young Girl By Anne Frank
For my second book review I chose to read The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank. This novel follows the life of a young Jewish girl named
Anne Frank as she struggles to survive in hiding during the Holocaust. It is composed of journal entries that Anne herself actually wrote as a
thirteen to fifteen year old girl in hiding. The book begins when Anne's parents give her a diary on her thirteenth birthday. Anne is excited about
the book and begins writing right away. She writes about everything that is going on in her life such as school, her thoughts, boys and more.
However, about a month after she gets the diary Anne's life changes forever. The Frank family is a jewish family living in Poland during the
Holocaust and therefore lives in constant fear of the Nazi's. After Anne's sister, Margot, is called on to report to the authorities, her family goes into
hiding. If Margot had gone to the authorities she would have most definitely been sent to a concentration camp and likely have been killed since
she was a girl. For this reason, the family moves into a small area in Anne's father's office located behind a moving bookshelf. The Franks live in this
small area called the Secret Annex for two years. Another family, the van Daan's, live in the Secret Annex as well, and eventually an elderly dentist
named Mr. Dussel moves in as well. Being cramped up in this tiny area causes Anne to become isolated from the outside world. She has to tip–toe

Anne Frank Analysis
The stage of growing up is a difficult part of life. When we grow up we have to decide on things. We as human beings tend to shut others out. In the
play version of the Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, and Wendy Ann Kesselman Anne Frank experiences growing up at the
harshest time. She is criticized by the people she is hiding with in the Secret Annex, the place where they went into hiding during the Holocaust. Anne
Frank is living under dangerous circumstances. Anne growing up is viewed as a flaw to many people. The playwrights emphasize how imperfect Anne
is.
First, the playwrights of the play of Anne Frank show us Anne disrespects her mother which is a flaw to show that Anne is at the stage of growing
up. Anne turns her mother down harshly when her mother tries to comfort her (35). This shows us how the playwrights wanted us to see that even
Anne hates her mother at one point. In the play (29) Anne talks about how she writes in her diary wishing her mother to jump in a lake. Also on page
29 she tells how she does not know why she disliked her mother. In life everyone has that stage where they hate their mother or father or even both. In
the play Anne's mother says "Try to sleep now. I'll sit right here till you––." Anne quickly cuts her off with "I'd rather you didn't." Anne was mean with
that she could have said it in a nicer way but the playwrights chose those words to emphasize that Anne hated her mother at that point. The playwrights
did this because they saw that it can relate to everyone. Another reason could also be to show that Anne is a regular child who favors one parent over
the other, in this case her father over her mother.
Second, the playwrights show us the that Anne Frank is immature at times to show that although there is a war going on Anne still acts like a child
that she is. She is after all just 13 years old. In the play Anne Frank is very different from the other children, Margot her sister and Peter the Van
Daans' son. She tends to act the most childish but it makes sense she has no other child her age there. She needs to survive with all the older people,
which can be hard for her. At the beginning of the play when Peter and his family arrives

Anne Frank : A Dark Time Period
Anne Frank
The Holocaust was a dark time period where millions of people were killed, including a young girl named Anne Frank ("Anne Frank." The Famous

and memories so she could be safe from the German Nazi's. Her early prepared her helped her get through and watch her country be destroyed by the
holocaust in which she tragically died in.
Anne Frank was born in a strong family who followed Jewish teachings and lived in Germany. (Herman 12) Annellies Marie Frank was born on June

her first entries was " I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confine in anyone, and I hope you will a great
source of comfort and support" (Feldman). Throughout the times Anne wrote in her diary she knew Germany was changing because she wrote "After
May 1940, the good times were few and far between; first there was the war, then then the capitulation and then the arrival of the Germans, which is
when the trouble started for the Jews" ("Anne Frank". Bio.com). Otto Frank knew things were started go wrong when he heard Nazi solider going by

The Diary Of A Young Girl
Ann Frank was a significant German–Jewish diarist. She was known for writing diary while hiding in the attic for escaping from Nazi party's
catching. (Roosevelt) Therefore, Ann Frank's family and another family hid in the "secret Annex" in seclusion which is isolated from the outside
world at Amsterdam. They lived crowded, confronted hunger, and fed up with the life in living at the confined attic (back of the book). For the next
difficult two years, Ann Frank kept on her diary and recorded what happen in the war those days and her real feeling. After world War Two, her father,
Otto Frank, got Ann Fran's diary from his friend which is discovered in the attic and he published the edited version which is called The Diary of a
Young Girl in 1947. This book provides a real record of World War Two and also let historians can confirm the historical authenticity. The Diary of a
Young Girl has become a meaningful and valuable document in history, in this paper will explore how did Ann Frank and her family keep their life
in the attic? And what is the effect after her diary was published to the world after World War Two? In World War Two, (Roosevelt) the Chancellor of
Germany, Adolf Hitler, proceeded to bring the republic to establish a totalitarian regime. All political parties but the Nazis were illegal. Hitler also
implemented anti–Jewish program (272~273). This is a program to discriminate Jewish and made them dismissed from public company and civil
service. Moreover, Hitler

1.The Rwandan 1994 genocide was an absolute tragedy in African history. Before reading this book, I wasn't very familiar about the event. I was
aware that a war in a small African country occurred where an entire ethnic group was almost annihilated. I knew that a woman was forced to stay
hiding in a cramped bathroom for three months, along with several other women. I obtained this information from my fifth grade English class
assignment. My grade was reading The Diary of Anne Frank, which is about the Jewish Holocaust through the eyes of a victim, and Immaculee
Ilibagiza, the author and narrator of the book, had just become an American citizen. We spent the entire class discussing Immaculee's life and her

In Spite Of Everything I Really Good At Heart
Anne Frank was a remarkable young women she was only 13 years old the time she went into hiding. She needed to disappear into hiding because
she was jew in the time of the holocaust. Her family went into hiding the day her sister Margot received a letter in the mail wanting her to report to
a concentration camp. When you arrive at one of those camps there are two lines. One is if you are sick or elderly you were to be killed and the
other line is they will force you to work and if you do not there can be harsh consequences. Anne family was not going to let their child be forced to
work. As Hitler began to prosper, the worse these treatments were pushed. So Anne's father, Mr. Frank, had connections in Amsterdam so he and
his family moved there and they hid in the attic otherwise known as the Secret Annex. You could say, why would she need to advance into hiding
when she could tell people she wasn't a Jew? The biggest reason is if you were in public and you were a jew you needed to have the Star of David
sewn somewhere visible on your garments so that everyone would know you are a Jew. In her diary, Anne wrote "In spite of everything, I still
believe that people are really good at heart". I believe Anne was optimistic when writing this. She also was probably thinking about the people... Show

She was waggish and atypical, yet she was droll, unique and an inspiration to people that are discriminated upon and other people who realize how

still believe that people are really good at heart" in her diary, she was trying to turn a horrible situation a superior one, she was thinking about the
people fighting the war to help the Jewish people, and she was thinking about the people directly helping her and her family. That is what I believe was
going through Anne's head as she wrote this

Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Essay
Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Billy Bathgate is an important American novel in it's portrayal of one young man's evolution from boyhood to
maturity. The novel is about a fifteen year old boy that gets taken under the wing of Dutch Schultz, a 1930's gangster trying to keep a hold of his
diminishing empire. As the novel unfolds, so does the rising maturity of the tough young man introduced to us as Billy Bathgate. Billy finds himself in
situations that most of us never see in our whole life. In difference to the reactions that most people would have in these situations, Billy learns from

the life of youth, with it's boundless resilience and illusions of immortality." (Bemrose 58–9) "He (Doctorow) is interested not in the abstractions of
corruption, but in the simple, emotional things of the criminal existence–what it feels like to be a gangster, what moral and psychological universe one

we are given glimpses of the murderous danger of the criminal life, and how the people who live it, particularly it's leaders, keep their heads above

manner that the reader can smell the tension of financial burden in

Anne's Relation to Modern Music
A multitude of people nowadays choose their favorite songs because of how they sound and the attractiveness of the singer. However, some people
select their favorite songs because of its appeal by relating to their personalities and feelings. Just as songs can relate to people, they can express
countless similarities with stories as well. When it comes to the story, The Diary of Anne Frank, there are a variety of characters and events that songs
can relate to. The songs "Chocolate Rain", "The Last Goodbye", and "Lost Cities", verbalize numerous commonalities with The Diary of Anne
Frank. Expressing the discrimination African Americans faced, "Chocolate Rain" relates to the Diary of Anne Frank because they both display the
unfair treatment of a type of person. A verse within this song reads, "Say it publicly, and you're insane," refers to the ill treatment the Africans
faced, but can just as well relate to the Jews. Particularly, while under persecution from the Nazis, the Jews' political and moral beliefs were
disregarded by everyone around them. Additionally, this lyric can also relate to how Anne acts with adults. An example of this occurs within the first
scene of the second act when Anne says, "What's the good of that? What's the good of thinking of misery when you're already miserable? That's
stupid!" Oftenly, the adults will see these thoughts as insane and respond as Mr. Van Daan does, "She talks as if we started the war! Did we start

Reflection About The Life Of Anne Frank
I went to the show ANNE on December 24, 2015. This play is about the life of Anne Frank. The performance takes place in a theater in Amsterdam.
This theater was built specifically for the show ANNE, because the whole Achterhuis is reconstructed at full size. ANNE is made on the initiative of

actress Anne is played by Sjoukje Hoogma.

The war is a major issue, because this is the reason why they had to hide in the Achterhuis. They are Jewish and this is very dangerous in the
Second World War, because you are transported to a camp if you are Jewish. There was a lot of fear that they will be betrayed. There was fear that
during the day they were not quite enough, and that the people who worked under the Secret Annex, would hear them. Relations is also an
important issue because you are with the same eight people in such a small house and you have nothing to tell each other. In the beginning, they
still had books and magazines they could read, but at a certain moment they did not have it anymore. Anne and Peter van der Pels also liked each
other and this was also difficult for their parents. It is always very difficult to convert a book into a play, but it was a beautiful play and it worked
out very well. I have heard a lot in elementary school about the 2nd world war, so I already knew a lot about it, but still it was very interesting. They
had so much fear and this was well played by the players. They used the feelings of the audience without music and I found this very special and very

Zlata And Anne Frank Comparison Essay
Based off my background of Zlata's Diary and The Diary of Anne Frank, I can tell that Zlata and Anne Frank are very similar. One way they are
similar is because they both went through war, and kept a diary of all their occurrences. A second similarity the both have is that their diary was
basically like their best friend during the wars the went through. Lastly, they were both around the same age when they started the war and writing in
their diaries.
One difference between Zlata and Anne Frank is that Zlata was in the Bosnian war, and Anne Frank was in the Holocaust. Another difference is that
Anne Frank was born a long time before Zlata, making her obviously older. Lastly, Anne Frank did die, and Zlata didn't by the end of the book/war....

Anne Frank barely had any freedom, for the sake of her life. Zlata as well, but she was able to do some things Anne Frank was not able to do. Another
difference is that Anne Frank had many more people involved with her than Zlata. Zlata had her parents and some of her other relatives, Anne Frank
had her family and other friends as well. Zlata really never talked a lot about her friends, for a long time at least.
Throughout Zlata's Diary Zlata did change her character. She had thought that the war would not really affect her, or she did not really know much
about it. During the middle of the war, she became very scared but soon got 'used to' all the gunfire and bombing. At the end, she felt much more
happy and relieved since she got recognized because of her experience and diary.
In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank did change. At first, she did not think she would be affected by the Holocaust. Soon, Hitler started moving
into where she lived, and taking away the rights of Jewish people. And at the end of the book, she did die. She was hiding in her attic for 2 years,

Prejudice And Racism In The 21st Century
Laurell Hamilton once said, "There is no light without dark, no good without evil, no male without female, no right without wrong... Nothing can exist
if its direct opposite does not also exist." Meaning that, in this world, there are individuals capable of both wholehearted goodness and obscene hatred.
Throughout time, there have always been attitudes of racism, but also of kindness, thereby leading to the conclusion that we are all simply a product
of our environments. In a world where everyone has loved and hated, where do you stand? Over the years, humans have developed a culture of hatred
and racism, rooted in underlying fear, towards those who are different than themselves. For example, in "Views From Inside an American Concentration

Peter in a childish way, she says with disgust that she could never see Peter as a brother, and of course she would say it that way because her
personality and attitude is still like one of a child. The theme adolescence is developed because her feelings towards Peter change. Earlier in her
diary entries she wrote how Peter is nervous around girls because he is not used to being around them, and she goes on about how immature and
foolish he is. But they soon begin to talk like adults and open up to each other. Anne soon then confides in him, and begins to see he is not who she
thought he was. She is more mature around him, and treats him with great respect because she likes the personality she gets from him. She
transitions from a child to a mature teenager, her maturity is greatly because of the time she spends with Peter. Anne's adolescence is also due to
appreciating what she has in life. In a diary entry on November 27, 1943 (page 149) Anne writes about a dream she has about an old school mate,

The Diar Loneliness
"They've been picked up. That's what happened. They've been taken." In July of 1492, one of the greatest concerns happened to Jewish families
in the Netherlands. Hitler invaded and took over Germany having the Nazis kill all of the Jews. The Frank family and the Van Daan family left in
the middle of the night to walk approximately two miles to their hiding spot. The Frank family left everything chaotic and wrote a note saying they
escaped to Switzerland anticipating it would attract fewer suspicions. After both families arrived and introduced themselves, they settled into their
small but capable living space. Neither family realized how long they would be in hiding or if they'd even survive. There were Innumerable
amount of years that have passed and the conditions were getting worse. It's harder for them to live as time went by since they feared more, the
food supply was decreasing, and they progressively got extremely bored. As they were hiding, there were a copious amount of problems that they
faced. One of the problems they faced was "quiet time". Where they were hiding, there were workers below who could hear every move. On page 286

Lise Meitner: One Of The First Female Scientist
Lise Meitner once said, "Science makes people reach for truth and objectivity; it teaches people to accept reality, with wonder and admiration, not to
mention the deep awe and joy that the natural order of things brings to the true scientist." The beauty of science and the excitement of exploration is
what gave Lise Meitner the inspiration to become one of the first female scientist. Lise Meitner was born in 1878 Vienna Austria with a Jewish
background, Mathematics and science was something that fascinated her as a child. Meitner discovered the effects of nuclear fission with uranium, she
was one of the first female scientist as well as being the first female scientist to be labeled as a professor all with the stereo type of her being Jewish.

The Importance Of A Hero And Frederick Douglass
Embedded Assessment 1.1 "A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer," (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just
like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be,
sacrifices themself for another, and they don't put another in harm's way.
A heroic person is undaunted by fearsome situations and uses courage when it is needed. When a hero sees someone in danger, they aren't quite a hero
yet. They are just a regular person that springs into action to save someone. At the Primrose Daycare, a car crashed into a fence, almost running
over some children. A teacher that was nearby "tried to shield the kids, [and] she got the brunt of it," (NBCDFW, Injured in Crash at Frisco
Daycare). This woman is a prime example of courage and her quick actions saved them all. Similarly, Frederick Douglass displayed this amount of
courage as well. Frederick Douglass was a slave that had to be brave and escape himself and others from the wrath of slavery. This is what the people
saved by Douglass think about him, "When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing...this man, this Douglass, this
former slave, this Negro beaten to his knees, exiled, visioning a world where not is lonely, none hunted, alien, this man shall be remembered," (Hayden

Anne Frank Quotes
Anne Frank Essay:
Intro: How long can you stay in a closed area–one, two, or maybe even three days? Well, what about three years? As you can see, Anne Frank was one
of those people who had to stay in an apartment for three years, hiding from the Nazi's, just because she was Jewish. Anne Frank had a very reasonable
quote that was quite agreeable. "In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart." After reading The Diary of Anne Frank I would
have to agree with Anne and her quote. She went through rough times during the hiding, but she persevered through it. Throughout the play, there was
a certain character that showed kindness and that was helpful, this person would be Miep. Another character that I would ... Show more content on

The Paradox Of Modernity
The promises and perils of European modernity reflect the fundamental paradoxes and contradictions that Marshall Berman defines in All That Is Solid
Melts into Air: The Experience of Modernity. He recognizes that with modernity comes a perpetual tension and uncertainty of social development and
destruction, but believes it to be inherently characteristic of a modernist to feel comfortable in this type of environment. While Berman is ultimately
optimistic about European modernity, Fyodor Dostoevsky in Notes from Underground and H. G. Wells inThe Time Machine tell tales of caution
regarding the risks of modern development and democracy.
The paradox of modernity is the constant struggle between the desire for change and the desire for stability. To be modern is "to be both revolutionary
and conservative: alive to new possibilities for experience and adventure, [yet] frightened by the nihilistic depths to which so many modern adventures
lead." This contradiction can be explained by Berman's interpretation of Marx's Communist Manifesto, which demonstrates the ironic cycle of
modernity. The capitalist bourgeoisie drive for development and innovation to increase profits and maintain control of society is the exact virtue that
will inevitably remove them from power. The innovative spirits of the economic system teach individuals the virtue of self–development, and "in order
for people to survive in modern society, their personalities must take on the fluid and open form" of a

World War II took away many things from people; loved ones, homes, personal possessions, from Anne Frank the war took away her childhood.
When she was still a young girl she had to move to a completely different country. Annelies Marie Frank had been born in 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany
into a jewish family. ( Anne Frank (1929– 1945) German diarist) Four short years later Hitler came into power and was after the jewish, because of
this Anne and her family were forced to flee to Amsterdam leaving their home behind. Despite this Anne was able to find joy in simple things such
as history, movie stars, even cats and dogs. (Van der Rol/ Verhoeven, page 28) She especially took to writing and one day hoped to become a writer.
When Anne moved to Amsterdam she hoped to find a better life away from Hitler. Which she did for seven years, until the Nazis took over the
Netherlands and started enforcing rules limiting the jews. In 1941 Anne and her older sister switched schools because they were no longer allowed at
non–jewish schools. They were also forced to wear the yellow star of david on any of their clothes. The rules didn't stop their: jews were banned
from almost all forms of transportation, were only allowed to shop between certain hours and in certain stores, and they were given a strict curfew.

Anna Frank and The Holocaust Essay
In the wortld there is almost always a middle school lesson that focuses on the Holocaust. There are many titles that surround the Holocaust. Many
things relate to Hitler and World War II. Also a common method for learning about the Holocaust is studying Anne Frank.
Anne Frank was a young girl that was Jewish. She was normal and had an entertaining life. When Hitler came into power the Frank family was in
Amsterdam. Anne's sister, Margot, got a call–up notice. That meant Margot had to register with the goverment where she lived. Otto Frank, their father,
then took the family into hiding. They lived in a spot Anne called the secret annexe. Also there was another family that eventually lived with them, and

Later on, they were going to be used as bargaining chips. All of the camps were just as heinous and lethal as Hitler meant them to be.
Hitler had a rough childhood. His father was stern and his mother was the same. They both died when Hitler was young and impressionable. He
aspired to be an artist, but when he applied to the art institute, he was rejected. Later on, he tried again, but to no avail, he had failed again. Since his
dreams of being a artist were crushed he enlisted in the German army. He had been injured twice, once in the eyes. When he was on leave for his
second injury, Germany submitted their surrender. Hitler thought of this as betrayal after all he had fought for. Also he considered this a sign that the
strong Germany he knew was gone.
At first he tried to take control of the country by force, but that didn't pan out as well as he thought it would. After his defeat he was captured and
sent to jail. His jail time was short lived, but while he was in prison he wrote a book. It showcased his beliefs and how to solve what he thought of
as problems. The title after translation meant My Struggle. After he got out of jail he decided that the best way to take over the country would have
to be legally. He later joined forces with the Nazi political party. Slowly he worked himself up in rank until he was second in command. What came
next was easy. He passed a law saying that once the current leader died no one would replace him. When he died shortly after

Eminent Domain Paper
When Should Eminent Domain be Used?
When should a city or state use their eminent domain powers? Over the past few years there have been a couple of cases that raised the questions of
when eminent domain should be used. One of the most controversial cases in the history of the United States was the Kelo v New
London Supreme Court ruling. In order to generate tax revenue, add jobs, and to prevent bankruptcy, the government's right to initiate eminent domain
for public good is a necessary evil.
Eminent domain in definition is "the right or power of public purposes without the owner's consent on payment of just compensation" ("Eminent
Domain History"). Eminent domain has been a part of the United States ever since the constitution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which would cause the city to grow and that would provide more money to the government with the increased tax revenue from all of the new
families. This could create more jobs, because more companies might be interested in locating there due to all of the growth. Eminent domain should
also be used by a city or state if it prevents it from going bankrupt.
A city or state should use eminent domain if it prevents it from going bankrupt. If a city is near bankrupt then it cannot provide all of the necessary
items that a city needs in order to run like it is supposed to. For example, if a city is short of funds then it would have to reduce its budget in places
that would harm the city. It would have to cut money from the police, and fire departments. However, by using their eminent domain powers a city
could keep all of this from happening by letting a business come that would create thousands in tax dollars, and add jobs to the city. This means that a
reduction in the police and fire departments would not happen and the city would still run smoothly.
The cities and states that use eminent domain to acquire land in order to keep themselves running smoothly is sad; however, these cities and states
are looking out for what is best for their areas. These cities and states are not trying to make families move out of their homes in order to earn a quick
dollar. These cities and states are only

Anne Frank And The Holocaust
Anne Frank, a famous victim of the Holocaust said this "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the
world." Anne Frank was once a free woman in this world. She didn't have to go into hiding, fear getting caught, or worse, possibly dying.
Anne Frank, a girl who survived partially of World War Two, was born in Frankfurt, Germany June 12, 1929. After the Nazis took power in 1933,
the Franks moved to Amsterdam. Unfortunately, things took an outrageous turn for the worst. Since being Jews, the Frank family would have to
go to a horrible place, known as concentration camps. Later on, a law was passed and all Jews had to register themselves in. That registry was for
the Nazis to find out were the Jews lived. The following spring, the Nazis yet had passed another law. The law stated that all Jewish people had to
put a yellow star on their clothing that said "Jood" on it. Soon after, Jewish families were being called up to go to transit camps. From the transit
camps they would go to Concentration camps. To overcome that, the Frank Family went into hiding. The German invasion of the Nazis started on
May 10, 1940. A year later in 1941, the Franks had started making tactics and preparations to go into hiding, before the Nazis would eventually reach
them. With the help of Otto Frank, Anne's dad and his colleagues at the Opteka Company, Otto was able to prepare a hiding place for his family.
Finally, the day had come. July, 1942, they had moved into the hiding place, called the Secret Annex. The Franks,Van Pels, and other occupants of the
hiding place hid in a secret attic apartment on 263 Prinsengracht Street. Before the Franks, and Van Pels got there, colleagues by the names of Johannes
Kleiman, Victor Kugler , Jan Gies, and Miep Gies, had helped set up the hiding place by smuggling food, and gathering clothing.
As read in the last paragraph, Anne Frank and her family went into hiding. They also stayed with other Jews. Later on in the year, a man by the name
of Fritz Pfeffer had moved into the Annex. He stayed in Anne's room while Anne's sister, Margot stayed with her mother and father. During their stay,
Anne had gotten a diary earlier in the year from her father on

Revised Paper On German Modernism
The Significance of Modernity
Throughout time, nations have attempted to become independent from one another by discovering means, which would help their citizens experience
more fulfilling lives. The dilemma that troubled each of these countries is whether or not innovations, in technology and society, led to a higher quality
of life. Modris Eckstein and Marshall Berman examine both, the damages and benefits of modernity. Eckstein looks at individual changes that lead to
the overall acceptance of modernity. He examines Germany, and how the lives of every citizen was altered following the revolutionary changes of the
first half of the 20th century. Marshall Berman, on the other hand, assesses modernity as an all–encompassing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This newfound approach to German sexuality was due to a youth movement, which believed restrictions on sexuality were simply not warranted.
"There was a new emphasis in general on leibeskultur, or body culture, on an appreciation of the human body devoid of social taboos or restrictions?
Tolerance of homosexuals is a prime example of modernism because this approach was truly ahead of its time. One can make this deduction because
homosexuals were shunned in all other European countries throughout this era. Although Germans did not collectively approve of homosexuality, their
over–all measure of tolerance was unlike any other.
As opposed to Modris Eckstein, Marshall Berman looks at modernity as an encompassing characteristic of society, which affects every facet of its
populace. Bermans text, All That is Solid Melts Into Air, is not a historical account (A contrast to Ecksteins novel) , but rather an assessment of what
modernism achieved in the societies, which embraced it. "The broad and open way enables us to see all sorts of artistic, intellectual, religious and
political activities as part of one dialectical process? Berman supports his argument by informing the reader of two specific incidents in Brazil and the
United States, where modernism affected the whole population.
Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer designed Brasilia (The capitol of Brazil) with the belief that a new age motif would bring prosperity to the city.
According to Berman, this modern plan backfired

Andrew Mendelssohn Biography
On February Third, 1809, Lea Solomon Mendelssohn, wife of Andrew Mendelssohn, gave birth to her second child and first son, Felix. His older

lived in Hamburg, Germany until late June, 1811 when French forces occupied the city. Fanny, Felix, and Rececka were born in Hamburg, whereas
Paul was born in Berlin. Because Andrew went against French law, the Mendelssohn family was forced to flee to Berlin incognito at night. Andrew

Comparison between Maus & Anne Frank Essay
What if you were a holocaust survivor and asked to describe your catastrophic experience? What part of the event would you begin with, the struggle,
the death of innocent Jews, or the cruel witnessed? When survivors are questioned about their experience they shiver from head to toe, recalling what
they have been through. Therefore, they use substitutes such as books and diaries to expose these catastrophic events internationally. Books such as
Maus, A survivor's tale by Art Spiegelman, andAnne Frank by Ann Kramer. Spiegelman presents Maus in a comical format; he integrated the
significance of Holocaust while maintaining the comic frame structure format, whereas comic books are theoretically supposed to be entertaining.
Also, Maus uses a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two following books are very parallel in the manner that they both focus on their personal experiences with the Holocaust. The one major
difference was that Maus was a comic book, while Anne Frank was a biography. By splitting the book in sections Kramer is able to show the reader a
sense high degree of organization.
Maus, is a very unique book, normally if the story is non–fiction meaning real they would use human figures, but in this book they use animal figures in
the form of cats and mice. The use of cat and mouse holds a very deep meaning in this book. Jews are portrayed as mice, while Germans as cats. In
holocaust Germans collected and transported Jews to Concentration camps where they were forced to perform labour work against their will and
given little or no food, some were even executed depending on their accessibility to work. So the use of animal figures, cats and mice to be specific
stands valid. Since cats have a natural instinct of chasing and hunting down mice, the same scenario can be applied to this book and holocaust, where
the Nazis as cats executed Jews as mice. This is completely different from Anne Frank, the technique used in this book is ordinary. In Anne

In the book, "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl", by Anne Frank, the main character is Anne Frank because the book is her diary. At the start
of her diary she wasn't in the "Secret Annexe" she was just a 13 year old Jewish girl who got a diary for her birthday. The main problem throughout
the story are all of the daily struggles Anne faces while in the "Secret Annexe" hiding. She writes down everything and everythought she has so you
know everything about her. But sadly at the end of the story, Anne and the other Annexe members are captured and they all go to concentration camps
and eventually die. Anne Frank is the main character of the book because the book is the diary of her life that she wrote. I think she is mentally strong,
smart, and courageous. Anne is mentally strong because she was getting bullied in the house by everyone– even her own family. They are always
picking her saying that she is boy crazy and that she is a little girl. Even though she gets picked on and bullied, she writes, "I still believe, in spite of
everything, that people are truly good at heart," (Frank 237). After everything that everyone does and says to her she still believes that they are
good people. It takes a strong person to still see the good in a person. Anne was also very optimistic she always tried to be happy and see the best in
every situation. To make herself and the others happy, she wouldn't talk so much she made herself happy by doing this because they would stop picking

Core Concepts from TA and Gestalt
"The paradox is that, while a concern with past and future is obviously central to psychological functioning, to behave as though one were indeed in
the past or future, as many do, pollutes the lively possibilities of existence." ― Erving Polster, Gestalt Therapy Integrated: Contours of Theory &
Practice. "Accomodation to parental needs often (but not always) leads to an as–if personality. This person develops in such a way that he reveals only
what is expected of him and fuses so completely with what he reveals that one could scarcely guess how much more there is to him behind the false
self". Miller, A (1997) The Drama of Being a Child, Virago, London.
Inrojections and Polarities are similar to Life Scripts and Injuctions in TA theory. Introjects are often codes "swallowed whole" that may have come
from our family or society. For example, after twenty–three personal therapy sessions, I had to challenge myself to explore in body work what parts
of myself I would like to be deleted. I wanted to delete my emotional fragility. I started breathing, voicing and gestering happy sounds and words. I
then drew an image of a dark cloud with white words "Let Go". The relief of my image contained all my pain of my emotional fragitlity. Energy taken
up in reserving fighting mechanisms against the pain of blocked care. "When we are in full contact change is inevitable." (Ervin Polster, Gestalt,

Anne Frank outside Looking in, the Diary of Anne Frank, and "Holland1945"
Chloe McCaffrey

Mr. Taylor
March 17, 2015
In Brett Kaufman's painting, Anne Frank outside looking in, he is implying how Frank never got to have a chance to live her life due to having to
hide away from the war going on all around her. Kaufman is relating his 1995 painting to the way she lived. Anne lived in the annex above her father's
work until her and her family got caught. Kaufman's painting is related to a diary written by Anne Frank while living in the annex. The diary is all of
her days, her nights, and her school. While people were below the annex working Frank sat in one spot and either read, or wrote in her diary. After
being caught, and dying, her father, being the only one who survived, had found her diary, and published the writing as a book in 1947. Kaufman's
painting and Anne 's Diary relate to a song written in 1998 by Neutral Milk Hotel. The song is singing about the death of Anne Frank, and how
close she was to surviving the war. The concept is of how much Anne Franks' story impacted the world. Anne Frank Outside Looking In, a 1995
painting by Brett Kaufman, a novel, The Diary of Anne Frank, written by Anne Frank, but later published in Amsterdam in 1947, and a 1998 song

Summary Of Anne Frank 'The Diary Of A Young Girl'
How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and neighboring citizens simply because of your religion? What if you were
ordered to work at a German labor camp, and if you didn't, there would be serious consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl
by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to go into hiding instead of fleeing the German–occupied
country. All of the characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and her family also go through
unexpected daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne's heart. The characters were an extraordinarily
significant aspect of how the "story" would turn out in the end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at the Secret
Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she felt he was always there for him. ВЁI model myself after Father, and there's no
one in the world I love more. He doesn't realize that he treats Margot differently than he does me: Margot just happens to be the smartest, the kindest,
the prettiest and the best. But I have a right to be taken seriously too," (10–30–1943). She explained that her father had great sympathy towards her, but
she wanted to be perceived as an adult too. There were also residents she despised, like Mrs. van Daan. Anne and Mrs. van Daan thought very different

Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
"Seek respect, not attention. It lasts longer." Ziad K. Abdelnour. In the dramatization of The Diary of Anne Frank, by Hackett and Goodrich, Mrs. Van
Daan shows her self–centered nature, annoying actions, and her rude personality. For example, Mrs. Van Daan's self–centered nature is shown all time,
she is concerned solely with her own interests and welfare. She always is an annoyance and everyone in the Secret Annex thinks of her as irritating
and bothersome. Most of all are her rude unpleasant nature when she acts impolitely deliberately quite often. First, Mrs. Van Daan has a very
self–centered nature. For instance, she insists that she be first in the W.C. (551). This is horrible because a parent should put their kids first, but not
Mrs. Van Daan. Another example is when Anne is talking to Mr. Van Daan and makes a wide gesture with her arms and spills a little milk on Mrs.
Van Daan's coat and she goes off yelling, "Now look what you've done you clumsy little fool! My beautifulfur coat my father gave me!" (561). The
way she reacted proves to everyone that she only cares about herself because Anne apologized and it was just an accident, but she still reacted this
way. Finally, she displays her self–centered nature when Mr. Van Daan is trying to sell her coat and she throws a tantrum over her fur coat. (604). This
is an important trait because even though other people are out on the streets, freezing, she is still all about herself and she throws a tantrum after losing
a fur coat she doesn't even need.
In addition to being self–centered, she is also quite annoying. For example, she embarrasses Peter by saying, "Is that any way to treat your little, you

Van Daan tries to stand up to Mr. Van Daan when he is trying to sneak food in the middle of the night. (622
–623). This is a terrible thing to do because
the children, even her own, are starving and she's trying to make Mr. Van Daan stealing seem alright. Furthermore, the tensions are rising in the Secret
Annex and Mr. Van Daan says, "So we just wait here until we die." and Mrs. Van Daan bursts out yelling,

Anne Frank Analysis
The Diary of Anne Frank Review by Essence Lewis
The Diary of a Young Girl was written in 1945 by Anne Frank. The book was modified into a play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The
play first premiered October 1955 on Broadway at the Cort Theatre. The Westport Community Theatre presented Wendy Kesselman's 1997 alteration
of the play from November 24, 2017 to December 10, 2017. The year of 2017 commemorates the 70th anniversary of the publication of the Amsterdam
teenager's wartime diary. Anne sadly did not make it out of the war, however her stories did.Miep Gies saved her diary and reported it to her father Otto
Frank once the war was over. He then published the diary and now it is one of the most moving stories of history. Director, Richard Mancini hopes
viewers of the play leave valuing peace and tranquility.
The play takes place on the top floors of the annex to an office building in Amsterdam, Holland during World War II. Otto Frank, wife Edith, and
daughters Margot and Anne Frank enter the annex hiding from vicious Nazi soldiers searching for Jews to terminate. Anne periodically writes in her
journal about her active experiences. The Franks were originally from Germany, however, they fleed to Holland several years prior to avoid Hitler's
dictatorship. Their hiding began when Margot was chosen for work at a concentration camp, which symbolizes death. The attic they are hiding in
happens to be the former office of Otto Frank. Otto's former employees Miep Gies

Ida Movie

  • 1. Ida Movie Ida is a 2013 film directed by Pawel Pawlikowski. It tells the story of a young woman about to take her vows as a Catholic Nun in 1962 Poland. Ida was orphaned as a child during the German occupation of World War II and must meet her aunt who informs Ida that her parents are Jewish. Ida is a fascinating portrait of post–war Poland. The film contains undertones of violence, betrayal, and guilt even when important historical events (such as the German Occupation of Poland and the Holocaust) are never mentioned. There are long–shots of Ida and her aunt driving in the empty Polish country–side, which makes the landscape seem barren and the population sparse. The long and often static camera shots emphasize the dramatic and unspoken nature of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film uses montage to represent the warped sense of time experienced by the depressed Justine. The first scene of the movie is of a slow–motion montage that depicts the entire plot of the film in a matter of minutes. Similar to how the montage condenses and slows time, I believe that Justine experiences time the same way as her mood becomes increasingly depressed. Another scene that involves montage manipulating time is Justine's first dance at her wedding reception. The scene cuts between Justine dancing with many different people. How long was she dancing for? This indicates that time in the film is subjective and is told through the warped perspective of Justine. Similar to how Justine exits the party in moments that seem disconnected from the narrative of the party, Lars von Trier cuts the film that skews temporal relationships. For example, the beginning montage sequence shows the end of the world, after which the next scene is Justine and her fiancГ© arriving late to her wedding. How does the beginning sequence fit into the rest of the film? Does it impact later scenes? Likewise, the audience does not feel how late Justine and her fiancГ© are because it is at the beginning of the film. How could they be late when film just started? This skewed sense of time and temporality is carried through the rest of the film making it feel like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Hamlets Oedipus Complex Essays Various works of literature contain characters who embody the elements of the classic Oedipus Complex, that of a son with an undue and unhealthy attachment to his mother. D.H Lawrence’s Sons and Lovers, along with other early modernist works, shows how a son’s bond to his mother can lead to that character’s major downfall. Even earlier than works of the late 19th Century does the Oedipus Complex appear, in this case, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shakespeare’s play about thePrince of Denmark shows the beginning of an Oedipal Complex, with Hamlet’s jealousy of his uncle Claudius for marrying his mother Gertrude and the rage that Hamlet’s emulation causes. ... Here, Gertrude is joined by Hamlet in a bedroom moments after Polonius, the Queen’s counselor, advises her to warn Hamlet that “his pranks have been too broad to bear with'; (3.4.2). Hamlet, upon killing Polonius, compares his “bloody'; act to that of “kill[ing] a king, and marry[ing] with his brother,'; blatantly expressing his mortification and disapproval with Gertrude’s marriage to Claudius(3.4.29). • 5. The Diary Of A Young Girl By Anne Frank For my second book review I chose to read The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank. This novel follows the life of a young Jewish girl named Anne Frank as she struggles to survive in hiding during the Holocaust. It is composed of journal entries that Anne herself actually wrote as a thirteen to fifteen year old girl in hiding. The book begins when Anne's parents give her a diary on her thirteenth birthday. Anne is excited about the book and begins writing right away. She writes about everything that is going on in her life such as school, her thoughts, boys and more. However, about a month after she gets the diary Anne's life changes forever. The Frank family is a jewish family living in Poland during the Holocaust and therefore lives in constant fear of the Nazi's. After Anne's sister, Margot, is called on to report to the authorities, her family goes into hiding. If Margot had gone to the authorities she would have most definitely been sent to a concentration camp and likely have been killed since she was a girl. For this reason, the family moves into a small area in Anne's father's office located behind a moving bookshelf. The Franks live in this small area called the Secret Annex for two years. Another family, the van Daan's, live in the Secret Annex as well, and eventually an elderly dentist named Mr. Dussel moves in as well. Being cramped up in this tiny area causes Anne to become isolated from the outside world. She has to tip–toe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Anne Frank Analysis The stage of growing up is a difficult part of life. When we grow up we have to decide on things. We as human beings tend to shut others out. In the play version of the Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, and Wendy Ann Kesselman Anne Frank experiences growing up at the harshest time. She is criticized by the people she is hiding with in the Secret Annex, the place where they went into hiding during the Holocaust. Anne Frank is living under dangerous circumstances. Anne growing up is viewed as a flaw to many people. The playwrights emphasize how imperfect Anne is. First, the playwrights of the play of Anne Frank show us Anne disrespects her mother which is a flaw to show that Anne is at the stage of growing up. Anne turns her mother down harshly when her mother tries to comfort her (35). This shows us how the playwrights wanted us to see that even Anne hates her mother at one point. In the play (29) Anne talks about how she writes in her diary wishing her mother to jump in a lake. Also on page 29 she tells how she does not know why she disliked her mother. In life everyone has that stage where they hate their mother or father or even both. In the play Anne's mother says "Try to sleep now. I'll sit right here till you––." Anne quickly cuts her off with "I'd rather you didn't." Anne was mean with that she could have said it in a nicer way but the playwrights chose those words to emphasize that Anne hated her mother at that point. The playwrights did this because they saw that it can relate to everyone. Another reason could also be to show that Anne is a regular child who favors one parent over the other, in this case her father over her mother. Second, the playwrights show us the that Anne Frank is immature at times to show that although there is a war going on Anne still acts like a child that she is. She is after all just 13 years old. In the play Anne Frank is very different from the other children, Margot her sister and Peter the Van Daans' son. She tends to act the most childish but it makes sense she has no other child her age there. She needs to survive with all the older people, which can be hard for her. At the beginning of the play when Peter and his family arrives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Roosevelt) Therefore, Ann Frank's family and another family hid in the "secret Annex" in seclusion which is isolated from the outside world at Amsterdam. They lived crowded, confronted hunger, and fed up with the life in living at the confined attic (back of the book). She needed to disappear into hiding because she was jew in the time of the holocaust. Her family went into hiding the day her sister Margot received a letter in the mail wanting her to report to a concentration camp. When you arrive at one of those camps there are two lines. One is if you are sick or elderly you were to be killed and the other line is they will force you to work and if you do not there can be harsh consequences. Anne family was not going to let their child be forced to work. As Hitler began to prosper, the worse these treatments were pushed. So Anne's father, Mr. Frank, had connections in Amsterdam so he and his family moved there and they hid in the attic otherwise known as the Secret Annex. You could say, why would she need to advance into hiding when she could tell people she wasn't a Jew? The biggest reason is if you were in public and you were a jew you needed to have the Star of David sewn somewhere visible on your garments so that everyone would know you are a Jew. In her diary, Anne wrote "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart". I believe Anne was optimistic when writing this. • 12. Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Essay Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Billy Bathgate is an important American novel in it's portrayal of one young man's evolution from boyhood to maturity. The novel is about a fifteen year old boy that gets taken under the wing of Dutch Schultz, a 1930's gangster trying to keep a hold of his diminishing empire. As the novel unfolds, so does the rising maturity of the tough young man introduced to us as Billy Bathgate. Billy finds himself in situations that most of us never see in our whole life. In difference to the reactions that most people would have in these situations, Billy learns from them in order to better his role in the crime family. It is for these reasons that the young fifteen year old boy quickly develops into a man. ... The novel kind of grabs you and dares you to put it down because it knows that you can't. Bemrose continues by saying "Billy Bathgate is a celebration of life as well, particularly the life of youth, with it's boundless resilience and illusions of immortality." (Bemrose 58–9) "He (Doctorow) is interested not in the abstractions of corruption, but in the simple, emotional things of the criminal existence–what it feels like to be a gangster, what moral and psychological universe one inhabit. It's day to day mechanics and, perhaps most importantly, how one survives a life of violence. Thus, underneath the soft prose of Billy's voice, we are given glimpses of the murderous danger of the criminal life, and how the people who live it, particularly it's leaders, keep their heads above water." (Clifford p.29) Setting Doctorow accomplishes the task of recreating the Bronx in the 1930's with perfection. • 13. The Diary Of Anne Frank Anne's Relation to Modern Music A multitude of people nowadays choose their favorite songs because of how they sound and the attractiveness of the singer. However, some people select their favorite songs because of its appeal by relating to their personalities and feelings. Just as songs can relate to people, they can express countless similarities with stories as well. When it comes to the story, The Diary of Anne Frank, there are a variety of characters and events that songs can relate to. The songs "Chocolate Rain", "The Last Goodbye", and "Lost Cities", verbalize numerous commonalities with The Diary of Anne Frank. Expressing the discrimination African Americans faced, "Chocolate Rain" relates to the Diary of Anne Frank because they both display the unfair treatment of a type of person. A verse within this song reads, "Say it publicly, and you're insane," refers to the ill treatment the Africans faced, but can just as well relate to the Jews. Particularly, while under persecution from the Nazis, the Jews' political and moral beliefs were disregarded by everyone around them. Additionally, this lyric can also relate to how Anne acts with adults. An example of this occurs within the first scene of the second act when Anne says, "What's the good of that? What's the good of thinking of misery when you're already miserable? That's stupid!" Oftenly, the adults will see these thoughts as insane and respond as Mr. Van Daan does, "She talks as if we started the war! Did we start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Reflection About The Life Of Anne Frank I went to the show ANNE on December 24, 2015. This play is about the life of Anne Frank. The performance takes place in a theater in Amsterdam. This theater was built specifically for the show ANNE, because the whole Achterhuis is reconstructed at full size. ANNE is made on the initiative of and in cooperation with the Anne Frank Foundation. The authors are Jessica Durlacher and Leon de Winter, the director is Theu Boermans and the lead actress Anne is played by Sjoukje Hoogma. The play is about the life of Anne Frank. They are Jewish and this is very dangerous in the Second World War, because you are transported to a camp if you are Jewish. There was a lot of fear that they will be betrayed. There was fear that during the day they were not quite enough, and that the people who worked under the Secret Annex, would hear them. Relations is also an important issue because you are with the same eight people in such a small house and you have nothing to tell each other. In the beginning, they still had books and magazines they could read, but at a certain moment they did not have it anymore. Anne and Peter van der Pels also liked each other and this was also difficult for their parents. It is always very difficult to convert a book into a play, but it was a beautiful play and it worked out very well. I have heard a lot in elementary school about the 2nd world war, so I already knew a lot about it, but still it was very interesting. They had so much fear and this was well played by the players. • 15. Zlata And Anne Frank Comparison Essay Based off my background of Zlata's Diary and The Diary of Anne Frank, I can tell that Zlata and Anne Frank are very similar. One way they are similar is because they both went through war, and kept a diary of all their occurrences. A second similarity the both have is that their diary was basically like their best friend during the wars the went through. Lastly, they were both around the same age when they started the war and writing in their diaries. One difference between Zlata and Anne Frank is that Zlata was in the Bosnian war, and Anne Frank was in the Holocaust. Another difference is that Anne Frank was born a long time before Zlata, making her obviously older. Lastly, Anne Frank did die, and Zlata didn't by the end of the book/war.... Zlata really never talked a lot about her friends, for a long time at least. Throughout Zlata's Diary Zlata did change her character. She had thought that the war would not really affect her, or she did not really know much about it. During the middle of the war, she became very scared but soon got 'used to' all the gunfire and bombing. At the end, she felt much more happy and relieved since she got recognized because of her experience and diary. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank did change. At first, she did not think she would be affected by the Holocaust. Soon, Hitler started moving into where she lived, and taking away the rights of Jewish people. Nothing can exist if its direct opposite does not also exist." Meaning that, in this world, there are individuals capable of both wholehearted goodness and obscene hatred. Throughout time, there have always been attitudes of racism, but also of kindness, thereby leading to the conclusion that we are all simply a product of our environments. In a world where everyone has loved and hated, where do you stand? The treacherous living conditions the inmates were forced to endure transformed them from caring, protective people into ruthless individuals who were willing to stoop to any means necessary in order to ensure their own survival. The theme adolescence is developed because her feelings towards Peter change. Earlier in her diary entries she wrote how Peter is nervous around girls because he is not used to being around them, and she goes on about how immature and foolish he is. But they soon begin to talk like adults and open up to each other. Anne soon then confides in him, and begins to see he is not who she thought he was. She is more mature around him, and treats him with great respect because she likes the personality she gets from him. • 21. The Importance Of A Hero And Frederick Douglass Embedded Assessment 1.1 "A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer," (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be, sacrifices themself for another, and they don't put another in harm's way. A heroic person is undaunted by fearsome situations and uses courage when it is needed. When a hero sees someone in danger, they aren't quite a hero yet. They are just a regular person that springs into action to save someone. At the Primrose Daycare, a car crashed into a fence, almost running over some children. A teacher that was nearby "tried to shield the kids, [and] she got the brunt of it," (NBCDFW, Injured in Crash at Frisco Daycare). This woman is a prime example of courage and her quick actions saved them all. Similarly, Frederick Douglass displayed this amount of courage as well. Frederick Douglass was a slave that had to be brave and escape himself and others from the wrath of slavery. This is what the people saved by Douglass think about him, "When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing...this man, this Douglass, this former slave, this Negro beaten to his knees, exiled, visioning a world where not is lonely, none hunted, alien, this man shall be remembered," (Hayden 81). • 24. The Paradox Of Modernity The promises and perils of European modernity reflect the fundamental paradoxes and contradictions that Marshall Berman defines in All That Is Solid Melts into Air: The Experience of Modernity. He recognizes that with modernity comes a perpetual tension and uncertainty of social development and destruction, but believes it to be inherently characteristic of a modernist to feel comfortable in this type of environment. While Berman is ultimately optimistic about European modernity, Fyodor Dostoevsky in Notes from Underground and H. G. Wells inThe Time Machine tell tales of caution regarding the risks of modern development and democracy. The paradox of modernity is the constant struggle between the desire for change and the desire for stability. To be modern is "to be both revolutionary and conservative: alive to new possibilities for experience and adventure, [yet] frightened by the nihilistic depths to which so many modern adventures lead." This contradiction can be explained by Berman's interpretation of Marx's Communist Manifesto, which demonstrates the ironic cycle of modernity. The capitalist bourgeoisie drive for development and innovation to increase profits and maintain control of society is the exact virtue that will inevitably remove them from power. The innovative spirits of the economic system teach individuals the virtue of self–development, and "in order for people to survive in modern society, their personalities must take on the fluid and open form" of a ... Over the past few years there have been a couple of cases that raised the questions of when eminent domain should be used. One of the most controversial cases in the history of the United States was the Kelo v New London Supreme Court ruling. In order to generate tax revenue, add jobs, and to prevent bankruptcy, the government's right to initiate eminent domain for public good is a necessary evil. If a city is near bankrupt then it cannot provide all of the necessary items that a city needs in order to run like it is supposed to. For example, if a city is short of funds then it would have to reduce its budget in places that would harm the city. It would have to cut money from the police, and fire departments. However, by using their eminent domain powers a city could keep all of this from happening by letting a business come that would create thousands in tax dollars, and add jobs to the city. • 29. Anne Frank And The Holocaust Anne Frank, a famous victim of the Holocaust said this "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." Anne Frank was once a free woman in this world. She didn't have to go into hiding, fear getting caught, or worse, possibly dying. Anne Frank, a girl who survived partially of World War Two, was born in Frankfurt, Germany June 12, 1929. After the Nazis took power in 1933, the Franks moved to Amsterdam. Unfortunately, things took an outrageous turn for the worst. Since being Jews, the Frank family would have to go to a horrible place, known as concentration camps. Later on, a law was passed and all Jews had to register themselves in. That registry was for the Nazis to find out were the Jews lived. The following spring, the Nazis yet had passed another law. The law stated that all Jewish people had to put a yellow star on their clothing that said "Jood" on it. Soon after, Jewish families were being called up to go to transit camps. From the transit camps they would go to Concentration camps. To overcome that, the Frank Family went into hiding. The German invasion of the Nazis started on May 10, 1940. A year later in 1941, the Franks had started making tactics and preparations to go into hiding, before the Nazis would eventually reach them. With the help of Otto Frank, Anne's dad and his colleagues at the Opteka Company, Otto was able to prepare a hiding place for his family. Finally, the day had come. July, 1942, they had moved into the hiding place, called the Secret Annex. The Franks,Van Pels, and other occupants of the hiding place hid in a secret attic apartment on 263 Prinsengracht Street. Before the Franks, and Van Pels got there, colleagues by the names of Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler , Jan Gies, and Miep Gies, had helped set up the hiding place by smuggling food, and gathering clothing. As read in the last paragraph, Anne Frank and her family went into hiding. They also stayed with other Jews. Later on in the year, a man by the name of Fritz Pfeffer had moved into the Annex. Revised Paper On German Modernism The Significance of Modernity Throughout time, nations have attempted to become independent from one another by discovering means, which would help their citizens experience more fulfilling lives. The dilemma that troubled each of these countries is whether or not innovations, in technology and society, led to a higher quality of life. Modris Eckstein and Marshall Berman examine both, the damages and benefits of modernity. Eckstein looks at individual changes that lead to the overall acceptance of modernity. He examines Germany, and how the lives of every citizen was altered following the revolutionary changes of the first half of the 20th century. Marshall Berman, on the other hand, assesses modernity as an all–encompassing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "There was a new emphasis in general on leibeskultur, or body culture, on an appreciation of the human body devoid of social taboos or restrictions? Tolerance of homosexuals is a prime example of modernism because this approach was truly ahead of its time. One can make this deduction because homosexuals were shunned in all other European countries throughout this era. Although Germans did not collectively approve of homosexuality, their over–all measure of tolerance was unlike any other. As opposed to Modris Eckstein, Marshall Berman looks at modernity as an encompassing characteristic of society, which affects every facet of its populace. Bermans text, All That is Solid Melts Into Air, is not a historical account (A contrast to Ecksteins novel) , but rather an assessment of what modernism achieved in the societies, which embraced it. "The broad and open way enables us to see all sorts of artistic, intellectual, religious and political activities as part of one dialectical process? Berman supports his argument by informing the reader of two specific incidents in Brazil and the United States, where modernism affected the whole population. When survivors are questioned about their experience they shiver from head to toe, recalling what they have been through. Therefore, they use substitutes such as books and diaries to expose these catastrophic events internationally. Books such as Maus, A survivor's tale by Art Spiegelman, andAnne Frank by Ann Kramer. Spiegelman presents Maus in a comical format; he integrated the significance of Holocaust while maintaining the comic frame structure format, whereas comic books are theoretically supposed to be entertaining. Also, Maus uses a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two following books are very parallel in the manner that they both focus on their personal experiences with the Holocaust. The one major difference was that Maus was a comic book, while Anne Frank was a biography. By splitting the book in sections Kramer is able to show the reader a sense high degree of organization. Maus, is a very unique book, normally if the story is non–fiction meaning real they would use human figures, but in this book they use animal figures in the form of cats and mice. The use of cat and mouse holds a very deep meaning in this book. Jews are portrayed as mice, while Germans as cats. In holocaust Germans collected and transported Jews to Concentration camps where they were forced to perform labour work against their will and given little or no food, some were even executed depending on their accessibility to work. So the use of animal figures, cats and mice to be specific stands valid. Since cats have a natural instinct of chasing and hunting down mice, the same scenario can be applied to this book and holocaust, where the Nazis as cats executed Jews as mice. This is completely different from Anne Frank, the technique used in this book is ordinary. In Anne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Summary Of Annene Frank : The Diary Of A Young Girl By... In the book, "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl", by Anne Frank, the main character is Anne Frank because the book is her diary. At the start of her diary she wasn't in the "Secret Annexe" she was just a 13 year old Jewish girl who got a diary for her birthday. The main problem throughout the story are all of the daily struggles Anne faces while in the "Secret Annexe" hiding. She writes down everything and everythought she has so you know everything about her. But sadly at the end of the story, Anne and the other Annexe members are captured and they all go to concentration camps and eventually die. Anne Frank is the main character of the book because the book is the diary of her life that she wrote. I think she is mentally strong, smart, and courageous. Anne is mentally strong because she was getting bullied in the house by everyone– even her own family. They are always picking her saying that she is boy crazy and that she is a little girl. Even though she gets picked on and bullied, she writes, "I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart," (Frank 237). After everything that everyone does and says to her she still believes that they are good people. It takes a strong person to still see the good in a person. Anne was also very optimistic she always tried to be happy and see the best in every situation. To make herself and the others happy, she wouldn't talk so much she made herself happy by doing this because they would stop picking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Core Concepts from TA and Gestalt "The paradox is that, while a concern with past and future is obviously central to psychological functioning, to behave as though one were indeed in the past or future, as many do, pollutes the lively possibilities of existence." ― Erving Polster, Gestalt Therapy Integrated: Contours of Theory & Practice. "Accomodation to parental needs often (but not always) leads to an as–if personality. This person develops in such a way that he reveals only what is expected of him and fuses so completely with what he reveals that one could scarcely guess how much more there is to him behind the false self". Miller, A (1997) The Drama of Being a Child, Virago, London. Inrojections and Polarities are similar to Life Scripts and Injuctions in TA theory. Introjects are often codes "swallowed whole" that may have come from our family or society. For example, after twenty–three personal therapy sessions, I had to challenge myself to explore in body work what parts of myself I would like to be deleted. I wanted to delete my emotional fragility. I started breathing, voicing and gestering happy sounds and words. I then drew an image of a dark cloud with white words "Let Go". The relief of my image contained all my pain of my emotional fragitlity. Energy taken up in reserving fighting mechanisms against the pain of blocked care. • 36. Analysis Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Osceola Fundamental High School Anne Frank outside Looking in, the Diary of Anne Frank, and "Holland1945" Chloe McCaffrey English 4 Mr. Taylor March 17, 2015 In Brett Kaufman's painting, Anne Frank outside looking in, he is implying how Frank never got to have a chance to live her life due to having to hide away from the war going on all around her. Kaufman is relating his 1995 painting to the way she lived. Anne lived in the annex above her father's work until her and her family got caught. Kaufman's painting is related to a diary written by Anne Frank while living in the annex. The diary is all of her days, her nights, and her school. While people were below the annex working Frank sat in one spot and either read, or wrote in her diary. After being caught, and dying, her father, being the only one who survived, had found her diary, and published the writing as a book in 1947. Kaufman's painting and Anne 's Diary relate to a song written in 1998 by Neutral Milk Hotel. The song is singing about the death of Anne Frank, and how close she was to surviving the war. The concept is of how much Anne Franks' story impacted the world. Anne Frank Outside Looking In, a 1995 painting by Brett Kaufman, a novel, The Diary of Anne Frank, written by Anne Frank, but later published in Amsterdam in 1947, and a 1998 song "Holland 1945" performed by Neutral Milk Hotel, but written by Jeff Mangum explore the idea of how an individual wanted to get out and explore the world, and even ... • 37. Summary Of Anne Frank 'The Diary Of A Young Girl' How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and neighboring citizens simply because of your religion? What if you were ordered to work at a German labor camp, and if you didn't, there would be serious consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to go into hiding instead of fleeing the German–occupied country. All of the characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and her family also go through unexpected daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne's heart. The characters were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how the "story" would turn out in the end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at the Secret Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she felt he was always there for him. ВЁI model myself after Father, and there's no one in the world I love more. He doesn't realize that he treats Margot differently than he does me: Margot just happens to be the smartest, the kindest, the prettiest and the best. But I have a right to be taken seriously too," (10–30–1943). She explained that her father had great sympathy towards her, but she wanted to be perceived as an adult too. There were also residents she despised, like Mrs. van Daan. Anne and Mrs. van Daan thought very different from each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis "Seek respect, not attention. It lasts longer." Ziad K. Abdelnour. In the dramatization of The Diary of Anne Frank, by Hackett and Goodrich, Mrs. Van Daan shows her self–centered nature, annoying actions, and her rude personality. For example, Mrs. Van Daan's self–centered nature is shown all time, she is concerned solely with her own interests and welfare. She always is an annoyance and everyone in the Secret Annex thinks of her as irritating and bothersome. Most of all are her rude unpleasant nature when she acts impolitely deliberately quite often. First, Mrs. Van Daan has a very self–centered nature. For instance, she insists that she be first in the W.C. (551). This is horrible because a parent should put their kids first, but not Mrs. The way she reacted proves to everyone that she only cares about herself because Anne apologized and it was just an accident, but she still reacted this way. Finally, she displays her self–centered nature when Mr. Van Daan is trying to sell her coat and she throws a tantrum over her fur coat. (604). This is an important trait because even though other people are out on the streets, freezing, she is still all about herself and she throws a tantrum after losing a fur coat she doesn't even need. In addition to being self–centered, she is also quite annoying. For example, she embarrasses Peter by saying, "Is that any way to treat your little, you little girlfriend?" (553). This is a big annoyance for Peter because they just recently moved in with the Franks. Another instance of this is when Mrs. Van Daan tries to stand up to Mr. Van Daan when he is trying to sneak food in the middle of the night. (622 –623). This is a terrible thing to do because the children, even her own, are starving and she's trying to make Mr. Van Daan stealing seem alright. Furthermore, the tensions are rising in the Secret Annex and Mr. Van Daan says, "So we just wait here until we die." and Mrs. Van Daan bursts out yelling, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
