It is hard to say if rock and roll impacts culture or is impacted by culture. I feel that as you explore
music from different eras you can often hear the story being told from that time. You can feel its
impact and see the impact on it. When I explored the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site I immediately

Their mash–up of rock and rap was very cool in the 1990s. I'm sure I was drawn to their party like
atmosphere as well as unabated humor. The Grammy winning instrumental album The Mix–up was
an interesting listen. I was unaware that this album even existed. It was a pleasant surprise to learn

I thought it would be fitting to write about genres that I don't care for so that I can focus on this
being a learning experience. Aesthetically, I liked this composition because I like all of the blending
of the different instruments that initially seem harsh and loud but instead create jovial melodies and

"African Americans invented Rock and Roll, without their musical contributions we would not have
the genre." As an eager, attentive History 105 student I have had to opportunity to learn a great deal
about the origins of the genre of Rock and Roll. The origin, even though many historians have
attempted to determine exactly where it came from, is still unknown. Rock and Roll is a blend of
Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Hillbilly, Rhythm and Blues and many more types of music. Throughout this
essay I will try and determine if the statement first mentioned is an accurate statement, and why or
why not?
I am going to start off by talking about some of the genres Rock and Roll originated from. First I
will talk about Blues. The Deep South in the 1920s and 1930s was the birthplace of the Blues. The
Blues spoke to African Americans about the challenges they faced and how others had it worse. It
flourished under the horrible circumstances of the African Americans of this time. The Blues have
some very iconic African Americans who helped mold this genre and eventually Rock and Roll, for
example: the Father of the Delta Blues, Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters Jazz
music like the Blues came from American and only America. It has been said to be the most
American music. Originated in New Orleans in the early 20th century, Jazz really took off after the
