World Change-Personal Narrative
I am a small carbon. I am so small that in all my life no one has ever noticed me. They may notice
the things I've been a part of but never really me. I on the other hand only observe. I watch the world
around me, and just like me the world has changed into many forms with many different colors. I've
seen the world change from a block of ice, to a never ending forest, to an earthy wasteland with
huge concrete and metal structures. I've seen the world change through many different lives. I start
my story as coal. I was a simple piece of coal in the lithosphere for millions of years. As the
centuries past people started giving me the title fossil fuel. And this name changed my world, people
decided to dig me out of my earthy home. They brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I spent millions of years in the hard wood of a Pinyon Pine Tree. And even now I can't comprehend
how peaceful it was. But one day that peace was ending when out of nowhere a landslide buried me
for millions of years. But I am far from sad, in fact it's the opposite, I'm ecstatic. As luck may have
it, that landslide brought me back home. All those years of intense pressure and heat turned me into
coal. I'm back in my long missed Lithosphere, and back to my true name of Fossil fuel, and I plan
on making sure I'm never being separated from it

Survival Of The Clams Essay
After Hurricane Matthew came through in North Carolina, along with the extremely hot summer,
there was a larger amount of algae that inhabited the oceans. That is because the storm caused it to
drift from freshwater rivers into the ocean. Also with increased temperatures throughout the
summer, comes the increase of algae. While all of this was taking place, the algae inhabited many
new and different areas, including the home of many clams. That caused many problems for the
clams that lived in the areas where the algae inhabited it. Most of the clams that lived in that
particular area were all light–colored, while the algae had a dark green color, which made the clams
be easily seen by predators. During this time the clam population decreased. Birds would see the
light–colored clams on top of the algae and fly down to grab them. They would then carry them to a

There were a very minimal amount of clams that had a darker shell. In this case it was a good thing,
because the birds and other predators were not able to see them as clearly as the light–colored clams.
While many of the other clams were being killed by predators these particular ones were able to
reproduce making a new generation of clams. Many of the new generation clams had a darker shell
than the previous. That is because of Darwin's theory of natural selection in regards to "survival of
the fittest." "Survival of the fittest" means, in this case, that the dark–colored clams are considered
the "fittest" since they are not being hunted, while the light–colored clams are being killed. The
dark–colored shell is a favorable trait, causing it to be passed down to new generations. Favorable
traits change (darker shell) as the environment changes (darker environment). However it does not
mean that every new clam will be dark–colored, it just means that there will be more darker colored
clams beginning now since it helps them survive in their

Tundra Swan Research Paper
There are only three types of swans and one is known as a Tundra Swan. They travel in groups
found in the Arctic regions in the parts of the world. They are commonly known as whistling swans
and their relative size is larger than a goose, but smaller than a Mute Swan. They are estimated at
89,620 tundra swans throughout the regions.
The characteristics of the Tundra Swan is very similar to the rest of the swans, but it has a distinct
difference. An adult Tundra Swan is completely white, but more often than not their heads and necks
are stained a rusty color. This is because of the ferrous minerals found in the muddy water from
feeding. The Tundra Swan has a black bill with a yellow spot at the base. The male swans are
typically larger than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two Tundra Swan populations. They are known are the eastern and western populations.
Since 1990 the western population has increased by 2% per year; leaving the average population as
89,620 swans in 2000. Also, since 1990 the eastern population has had a 5% increase per year;
leaving the average population at 103,080 swans in 2000. Adding up both the eastern and western
population,it is an average of 96,350 Tundra Swans.
The Tundra Swan food sources depend on the region in which the swans live. The Tundra Swan
mostly eat sea foods like the aquatic plants found in shallow waters. This consists of wigeon grass,
sago, leaf pondweeds, and more. The Tundra Swan is not only a herbivore, they are also known for
eating the clams. When the clams rise up on the shore they peck it open and eat the insides. In
conclusion, the Tundra Swan eats plants and small sea animals like clams.
Have you ever wondered if the Tundra Swan travels in herds or alone. If you answer either way then
you are correct. It depends on what the swans are doing. The only time that they are not in herds is
when they are trying to find a mate. Even at that some of the Tundra Swans are still in herds
throughout the grounds. The herds consists of swans that failed at finding a mate or if they are too

Faulty Hill Formation Research Paper
At the intersection of Neva Road and U.S. 36 we examined three different members, the Smoky
Hill, Fort Hayes, and Codell, which belong to two different formations, Niobrara and Benton. The
Smoky Hill and Fort Hayes belong to the Niobrara formation while Codell belongs to the Benton
Formation. In the Niobrara's Smoky Hill and Benton, Inoceramid clam (giant clam) fossils were
found. These three formations are of Late Cretaceous.
The Smoky Hill Member is mainly a calcareous mudstone, a rock outcrop that looks and behaves
mostly like mudstone, but does have some characteristics of a limestone, like fizzing. The Smoky
Hill is the youngest of the members. It is fine grained, dark to light gray, mudstone which breaks in
rectangular like shapes. Mudstones are deposited in low energy environments, like ocean floor,
deltas, or lakes.
The Fort Hayes is in the middle of the two formations, and it is mainly made up of ... Show more

This sandstone is a dark–ish gray–brown, medium to fine grained sandstone. This sandstone was the
most hidden of all all the members, making it seem more easily erodible. Sandstones are usually
deposited at a higher energy because as the energy level lowers the force can not longer hold the
heavier particle. So, not only is the Codell member the oldest, but it had the most energy. Sandstone
can be deposited at the beach, the shore of a lake, deltas or deserts.
The Inoceramid clams found in the Niobrara formations leads to the assumption that the mudstone
and limestone were deposited at the sea floor. Clams today are mostly found in the deep burrows of
mud, and with the principle of uniformitarianism you can deduce that those clams were also most
likely living on the sea floor. The clams living at the sea floor would be supported by the fact that
the clam fossils were found in mudstone and limestone because mudstone is usually in lower energy
environments like the sea

Tj Jones
Sol's apartment was cluttered with an overabundance of evidence of his unusual art. His kitchen was
stuffed to the brim with herbs. Ranging from mundane, like cinnamon, to the more extravagant.
Stones and crystals sat in windows, hung above the door, and strangely enough, a light pink crystal
sat in the coffee pot when not in use. His witchcraft was even evident in the things he drank and the
things he ate. Every morning his coffee was infused with his witchcraft, a pinch of basil, when his
check didn't cover the bills, a dash of nutmeg when his relationship was on the rocks. He never
cooked without intent, sauteing only clockwise, making sure to never add herbs that would harm. If

Pharmaceuticals are synthetic or natural chemicals that can be found in prescription medicines,
over–the–counter therapeutic drugs and veterinary drugs (World Health Organisation, n.d).
Pharmaceuticals can enter water sources through various ways such as agricultural runoff containing
manure from farm animals, unwanted medicines that are flushed down toilets, drugs that have been
disposed of incorrectly and also from inadequately managed production and manufacturing
facilities.
Pharmaceuticals in water not only have an effect on humans but can also have a significant impact
on the wildlife present at the source. A study carried out by a freshwater scientist Rebecca Klaper in
Lake Michigan found the presence of the drug metformin three miles

Carman's Gourmet Advertising Campaigns
Carman's gourmet porridge has proven to be effective through the uses of elements like the
presentation of the product, slogan, camera angles, the choice of colour and lighting. Carman is an
Australian based food brand that makes food with passion. Due to its healthy ingredients, it is
mainly targeted towards dieting, female or male audiences. The presentation of the product along
with convincing slogan, have made the advertisement stand out, differentiating from the others.
Whilst the focal point focuses on the served porridge, it also draws attention to the blurred
background where the original packet was located. The resemblance od the porridge can be depicted
which directs the audience to ponder upon how the product would be served in reality. With
decorations like the knitted mitten, the coffee, the spoon and the book, casually being placed around
the product, helps to portray a sense of warmth and cosy vibe during the winter. However, the use of
too many decorations is unavailing as it created confusion towards the audience. Making it difficult

Digestive Systems Of The Earthworm, The Starfish, The...
As evolution evolved, so did the digestive systems of various organisms. From earth worms to the
fetal pig, the digestive systems have changed due to genetic and environmental factors for survival.
The six organisms that we dissected in this course are the following: the earthworm, the clam, the
crawfish, the starfish, the perch, and the fetal pig. We will discuss each organism's digestive system
associated with their eating habits, discuss the changes in the digestive systems from the more
primitive to the more advanced, and discuss how these advanced characteristics improved the
efficiency of the organism's digestive system. The first organism we will talk about is the
earthworm. Starting with earthworms in this report gives a bigger picture ... Show more content on

A perch's eating habits are to eat anything that swims (insect larvae, crustaceans), including their
own relatives (cannibalism) (Painter 2002). Perch have sharp teeth to break down the tough food
before using the tongue to swallow the food to start the digestion process. The esophagus is where
the digestion process begins. Then the food is moved to the stomach to breakdown the food
furthermore. After the stomach, the digesta goes to the pyloric caeca, which has glands that secretes
digestive enzymes and absorb nutrients from the digested food. After the pyloric caeca, the digesta
goes to the small intestines connecting to the anus. The perch produces bile in the liver for storing
nutrients, fat breakdown, and blood protein breakdown. In the small intestines the gall bladder
secretes the bile to help the digestive process (Dearolf 2005). After leaving the small intestines, the
waste exits through the anus. Now, we will discuss the last dissected organism, the fetal pig, which
resembles closet to the human digestive system. The food is broken down by teeth into bolus and
has a large intestinal tract to increase the absorption of the nutrients from food and plants. Food
passes through four regions in the stomach, starting from the superior to the inferior regions
(esophageal, cardiac, fundic, and pyloric). Cardiac is where mucus is secreted while the fundic
region is where digestive processes occur

The Venetian Laggon and Overfishing
In recent years, the Venetian lagoon has been under the threat of devastating over–fishing. This
tragic exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are
not well defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This
paper will investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable
yield, and aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing
from the Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached
previously by multiple economists. Casari and Plott (2003), and McKean and Ostrom (1995) have
investigated common property in the context of the unique case of the Magnifica Comunità di
Fiemme, a forestry operation in northern Italy and successful common property regime which
despite being a different resource is faced with many of the same risks and struggles as those faced
by regulators of the lagoon. Conversely, Longo (2003) and Rossetto (2000) have addressed the
failures of the current system in the lagoon. To add to the analysis, this paper will synthesize this
research to define what makes common property regimes such as the Magnifica Comunità di
Fiemme capable of sustainably producing, while the regime in the Venetian Lagoon ultimately
results in devastating overfishing. In order to uncover the conditions which allow for the
exploitation of fish in the lagoon, I will examine the issue with a

The Effects Of Corbicula Fluminea
The Asian clam, Corbicula fluminea, is an invasive freshwater bivalve that is found in many
streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs around the world (Bullard & Hershey, 2013). Originally native
to Southeast Asia, it has had large ecological and economic impacts in many aquatic ecosystems (as
cited in Gulyás, Sümegi, Szalóki, & Nenadic, 2012). Its asexual behavior, lack of need for a host,
and strong sense of adaptability are the cause of its massive spread. Generally, Corbicula fluminea
like warm climates and sandy silt–like substrate to burrow into, both of which can be found in the
Laredo section [2304] of the Rio Grande River. This has made the Rio Grande River a prime

Zhang, & T. Zhang, 2014). White and purple color morphs have been discovered all over the world,
and previous studies have suggested that this is due to the speciation of Corbicula (Wang, Li, Xiao,
J. Zhang, & T. Zhang, 2014). However, there have been experiments where different results have
been attained: it was found there where no distinct differences in morphological measures between
the two color morphs – white and purple (Wang, Li, Xiao, J. Zhang, & T. Zhang, 2014). The
underside of the shell is not the only notable difference in morphological measures. In general, most
Corbicula fluminea shells are characterized by symmetrical valves, concentric ribs that are parallel
to the growth lines surrounding the surface of the shell, and more notably, a variation of shell
thicknesses, shapes, and colors (Gulyás, Sümegi, Szalóki, & Nenadic, 2012). Although Corbicula
fluminea only grow to a relatively small maximum of 60 millimeters, the purple–nacre Corbicula is
generally much smaller and more oval in shape than the larger and more sub–triangular white–nacre
Corbicula (Howells, 2014). Purple–nacre Corbicula also tend to be dark brown to black in color,
while white–nacre Corbicula is usually a yellow–green, tan, brown, to black color (Howells, 2014).
These differences are also seen in the Laredo section [2304] of the Rio Grande River. If there

Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their
food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This
entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and
exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and
have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This
also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams
bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which
substances they brought in. This ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad
chemicals. However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater).
Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves
using plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very
long time and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the
ecosystems (Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in
wetland habitats for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants
to change harmful chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi–timely manner, but it is
expensive. Comparatively, Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many bodies
of water from past human transport and easy to

Testing the Effect of Differing pH Levels on the Heart...
The purpose of this investigation is to test the effect of differing pH levels on the heart rate of
bivalve mollusks. Mollusca can be classified by their soft bodies, "head" and "foot" regions. They
also generally have hard exoskeletons that cover their bodies. This is the case with snails and, of
course, clams. Bivalve mollusks have a hard outer shell and soft insides. Their hearts are located
towards the center of the umbo, which extends from the terminal end of the valve. The umbo is also
the location at which their shell grows. The gills of a bivalve mollusk are lining the interior of part
of their shell. Below the location of their heart is their foot, which is used to move or attach to
various surfaces. Bivalve mollusks have been around since the Ediacaran period however, they only
started diversifying during the Ordovician period. They themselves were not the dominant species
but others along their family tree proved thrive during this time. In the present day, which was most
likely much the same as in the past, the life cycle of a bivalve mollusk consisted of growing, having
children, and the dying. They are born as males, as is the case of most mollusks, and later about half
age into females. They eject their eggs and sperm into the sea and new mollusks are born. There is
no larvae stage in the case of a couple types of mollusks so eggs hatch into smaller version of the
adults that created them. In the other species of mollusks eggs are born into a larvae stage in

Clam Vs Utilitarianism
CLAIM:
It is acceptable for U.S. companies to relocate their business to other countries for tax break
purposes.
EXPLANATION OF CLAIM:
This claim says that it is acceptable for companies to move their business to other countries where
the tax rate isn't as high so they can avoid paying more taxes than they would here in the US. It is
legal for US businesses and organizations to move their practice to another country where the tax
rate is lower. This is called "corporate inversion." In the United States, there are many rules and
regulations when it comes to paying taxes as a business. There are also brackets that businesses are
broken down into depending on their income and revenue. The corporate tax rate in the US is
usually around 25% and it varies from around fifteen percent to thirty five percent.
REASONS FOR THE CLAIM:
1. In an egoist perspective, organizations will be slanted to move their operations to lower taxing
countries on the grounds that the motivation of the demonstration would make a long ... Show more

In a utilitarian perspective, organizations will be slanted to migrate their operations to lower taxing
countries in light of the fact that the outcomes won't exceed the advantages that the more prominent
number of individuals will profit by. Utilitarianism contends that we must act as per the best useful
for the best number of individuals. In the event that the business could spare hundreds, possibly a
large number of occupations, the migration of operations is justified, despite all the trouble. For
partners that are specifically influenced by a choice of movement, it is valuable to them to move.
This can really help stakeholders gain more money in the stock market. "Companies aren't fleeing
the United States because of a lack of tax competitiveness, a top tax expert says. They're leaving to
use the trillions of dollars in cash they hold abroad to boost their stock prices" (Top Tax Expert).
This is legal and all workers are fulfilling their fiduciary

When dealing with a concept such as the impacts of stormwater runoff into University Bay, most

simply that most of the changes would be occurring within University Bay and the residents would

the residents of the village of Seawolf would feel they are investing money towards a lost cause and
want to stop investing in the project.
To conclude, the Stormwater Remediation Project has great potential if it is strictly implemented

Informative Essay On Quahog Clams
Have you ever thought of the life of something that you eat everyday like meat or fish? The cows
that create the burgers and steaks that you slap on the grill, have you ever thought about how they
grew and thrived? I know I never really did until I started my degree in biology. There are so many
different types of animals and they all have different body structures and different ways of
surviving. They are living things just like anyone in the world. Its not just cows that we should think
about. There are plenty of other types of animals that we eat like fish, shellfish, pigs, chickens and a
lot of others. I am specifically talking about one type of species that citizens consume all the time!
Especially on the jersey shore where they are most famous! The quahog clam is a very old and
special species. The quahog clam has very interesting organs, was used for luxury, are different from
any other clam, are very important to society, and they are in danger everyday. The clams have
several different characteristics that define them. The most important thing that defines clams is
their two valves; hence its class name, bivalvia. The quahog clams are apart of the phylum Mollusca
and apart of the class Bivalvia. Other animals that are apart of this class are oysters, mussels and
scallops. All of the organisms that are apart of this class are filter feeders. This means they filter the

Compared to other clams you can tell that it's a quahog because of the hinge that curves to the side.
The rings on the shell is also very defined and easily seen and felt. Other clams usually don't have
rings that are so defined and doesn't usually have a hinge that curves over. Also another major
characteristic that defines the quahog from any other clam is (of course) the purple stain on the
inside of the clamshell. The purple stain is what makes the quahog who it

The Effects Of Pernicious Anemia And Its Treatments
Introduction
In this project, we are trying to explore the history of how discovered the Pernicious anemia and its
treatments in the first part. And learn what techniques and skills are using at the present, and the
resources of the food in the second part. In the third part, we want to discuss how the diet and
treatments will change and improve in the future, according to the techniques and social influences.
In the first part, we will learn how had the pernicious anemia been discovered, and the people that in
some particular countries and people that have specific belief which are easy to get pernicious
anemia. And we will look for the how the special diet for the patient had invented and how it works.
In the second part, we are talking about the production methods, techniques that has been using for
the food of the diet. And find out what kind of food that used in this diet.
In the third part, we are looking for the future of the diet, which is influenced by the technology
improving and social trends. And we will discuss about what new types of food that might use for
this diet in the future, also the applications

Research Paper On Dolphin
Dolphin was sort of new to the sea. He had spent his whole life in his giant clam home with his
parents. But when his parents were eaten by Great Red Shark, Dolphin was forced to get out of his
home and go search for a new home. Great Red Shark was lurking around the giant clam homes for
a long while. Dolphin didn't know if Great Red Shark was still around, but he had to get food
somehow. When Dolphin was gathering berries from a nearby bush, he felt a strong gust on his fins.
He started trembling. Dolphin swam speedily all the way back to his giant clam. He thought to

How Does Henry David Thoreau Existentialism
Existentialist Answers Revealed through Miller, Morrison and Thoreau
Compelling arguments in major works of literature are powerfully composed and compel readers to
engage with the text by analyzing and discussing literary works of art. One of the most inspirational
texts selected for this semester is written by Henry David Thoreau. In Walking, Thoreau discusses
his opinions about existential questions through writing style choices and syntax.
Walking was published in 1862, during a time period of thoughts surrounding logic and reasoning.
Thoreau was a transcendentalist, believing in a social movement promoting beliefs of the innate
goodness of people and the divine spirit in everything. The beliefs of individualism and spirituality
broadens Thoreau's theme and connects to the existential question,"What it means to be human".
Thoreau notes "In short, all good things are wild and free" (17), determining humans should value
nature and natural experiences that are present in our environment. Furthermore, the
transcendentalist theme repeats, "No wealth can buy the requisite leisure, freedom, and
independence which are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ordering clams due to his waiters disapproving facial expression was Newman's first indication of

crowd to avoid the prejudice of being perceived as a Jewish man. Although Newman could simply
order his wife's dish and eat, the in depth thought process he went through highlights Newman's
struggle to conceal his perceived Jewish identity and readers can relate to the emotional connection

The Eye Of The Beholder : Do Biological Invasions Impact...
In the eye of the beholder: Do biological invasions impact ecosystems on a functional level?
Biological invasions are generally considered an environmental threat, out competing native species
and increasing community homogenisation. Importantly though, invasive species also alter
ecosystems, yet little research has focused on whether invasions are a threat to their functioning or
services. This encompasses two main debates: determining whether invasive species alter ecosystem
functioning and, if they do, whether these impacts are positive or negative. After reviewing current
literature in an effort to resolve this controversy, it seems that in most cases, non–native species do
alter ecosystem functioning. However, whether this change had ... Show more content on

In fact many studies suggest introductions can increase species richness and habitat complexity4, 5,
though there is still a threat of ecosystem homogenisation6, and native species loss. Biological
invasions are therefore understood to have a variety of effects, yet whether environmental processes
will be altered remains unclear7. Ecosystem functioning may remain unaffected if the invasive
organism performs the same role as the species that has been replaced, but the introduction of new
functional traits or more efficient mechanisms could alter essential processes. If this is the case, the
debate must refocus to assess whether these changes will be beneficial or detrimental. Eradicating
non–natives to return the habitat to its natural state may lead to the loss of a functional trait that no
longer exists within the native community, and so the loss of an essential ecosystem service. To
make informed management decisions it is essential that we understand if, and how, biological
invasions alter ecosystem functioning. This review aims to examine current literature to begin to
resolve these two interconnected debates.
Do invasive species alter ecosystem functioning? An invasive species that performs a role which
already exists in the environment, by filling an empty niche or replacing native species, will
theoretically have no impact on the specified

Tridacna Research Paper
Variables of Tridacna isotopes as environmental indicators. Ontogeny, zooxanthella symbiosis, trace
elements, seasonality and relative living depth.
Abstract (In progress)
Isotopic profiles of mollusks provide insight to the biology of fossil and living specimen and the
conditions under which they live in. Isotopic profiles record seasonal variance in temperature,
salinity, dissolved oxygen concentrations and can provide evidence of changes in bio mineralization
in correlation with seasonality and ontology. The shells of Tridacna are beneficial for Pleistocene
paleoceanography isotopic studies because of their large size making it easier to gain detailed
samples of shell carbonate. The density of the shell better preserves original carbonate of the shell.

Zola Accuses: Dreyfus has Been Framed
Zola Accuses – Dreyfus has been Framed
By 1898, the ubiquitous Dreyfus affair in France had developed into a situation in which French
journalist Emile Zola felt that he needed to declare the truth of Dreyfus's conviction. He published a
letter addressed to the President of the French Republic, using the information he had. Emile Zola
validly argues in "J'Accuse" that the court martial framed Captain Alfred Dreyfus of selling French
military secrets to the Germans, and he uses the important arguments that the court martial
conducted an unreasonable examination, unlawfully convicted him of treason, and wrongly
protected and claimed Commander Esterhazy's innocence. With this faulty conviction, Zola wrote,
"France has this stain on her cheek" (1).
Zola claimed that a weak and unreasonable examination was conducted in trying to find Dreyfus's
guilt. Zola blamed Major Du Paty de Clam for the far–fetched examination. Zola wrote, "...it is him
whom commander Forzinetti describes to us armed with a dark lantern, wanting to approach the
sleeping defendant, to flood his face abruptly with light and to thus surprise his crime, in the
agitation of being roused" (1). Du Paty de Clam used these types of far–out methods to try to make
Dreyfus confess for a crime he did not commit – as Zola wrote, "One could not conceive of the
experiments to which he subjected unhappy Dreyfus, the traps into which he wanted to make him
fall, the insane investigations, monstrous imaginations, a whole

Einstein Of The Sea Summary
The article that I read is called "Einstein of the Sea" written by Balcombe, Jonathan in Scientific
American. I choose this topic because I think fish are amazing creatures that have different ways of
interacting with the environment and with their own species. This article is about the unique
cognitive and physical changes to certain fish that help them to survive. There was a video that
showed how a certain fish proved this statement. A professor at the University of California,
Giacomo Bernardi, recorded a video, while diving, of a wrasse using its' tool of shooting pressurized
water to open a clam. This article shows the forms of tools of fish and what scientists think of them.
Fish like the archerfish and wrasse have shown signs of advanced learning and cognitive ability. The
archerfish for example can shoot precise water jets at bugs above the surface by seeing their
trajectory direction, speed, and sometimes even mass.
Giacomo Bernardi is thought to be the first to record a wrasse using its unique ability to shoot water
on clams underwater. He is part of the reason why this topic is being reported in this popular science
magazine. The other part is that scientists have just now pieced out ... Show more content on

technique of the archerfish has me surprised. They can shoot a strong burst of water or in a machine
like fashion to bring down a bug from above water. This amazes me because they rely on a food
source that does not even live in the water. "Archers may even aim just below their prey on a

because giant clam would begin to eat more marine algae causing marine algae to decrease in

on marine algae as their food source so when Phytoplankton is taken away they both have to eat
marine algae. Eventually there won't be any marine algae left for the two to eat so they too will
become nonexistent. Secondary consumers will be affected because there would not be giant clam

Contagious Cancer Research Paper
Cancer is not contagious– it isn't like the flu. For that, people tend to see Cancer as a terrible disease
that could be worse but isn't. While it can take their family members from them, which can be a
dismal pain, it cannot spread from person to person; it is not a threat to the world like the bubonic
plague was. Ordinarily, the question of a contagious Cancer existing in the future ponders in the
minds of scientist, mostly because it already does in animals.
People are for a most part unaware of the existence of transmissible cancers, mostly because it is
extremely rare. Apart from cases with oncoviruces, there has only been two recorded cases of a
contagious cancer in humans. Both of these cases happened after accidentally inserting cancer cells
in the body. One of them was a 19 year old who accidentally injected herself with the cancerous
cells. The other was a surgeon who cut himself with an infected scalpel. Moreover, both of them are
extreme and rare situations. Nevertheless, these types of cancers are relatively a lot more common in
animals.

it seems to have similar functions of the human digestive system. The stomach breaks down the
food while the intestine absorbs nutrients and water in the food. We also found the liver, pancreas,

Basket of Clams is a watercolor done by artist Winslow Homer, in 1873 AD. Winslow Homer was
known as a Realism painter. This particular piece is a watercolor done on wove paper and it is 11 ½

full of clams. In the distance you can see multiple sailboats in port and the big sailboat behind the
children are there to show that this town is very driven by its boating life. There are two formal
elements that Homer uses here to help capture the viewer and that is the use of color and lines.

World Change-Personal Narrative

  • 1. World Change-Personal Narrative I am a small carbon. I am so small that in all my life no one has ever noticed me. They may notice the things I've been a part of but never really me. I on the other hand only observe. I watch the world around me, and just like me the world has changed into many forms with many different colors. I've seen the world change from a block of ice, to a never ending forest, to an earthy wasteland with huge concrete and metal structures. I've seen the world change through many different lives. I start my story as coal. I was a simple piece of coal in the lithosphere for millions of years. As the centuries past people started giving me the title fossil fuel. And this name changed my world, people decided to dig me out of my earthy home. They brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spent millions of years in the hard wood of a Pinyon Pine Tree. And even now I can't comprehend how peaceful it was. But one day that peace was ending when out of nowhere a landslide buried me for millions of years. But I am far from sad, in fact it's the opposite, I'm ecstatic. As luck may have it, that landslide brought me back home. All those years of intense pressure and heat turned me into coal. I'm back in my long missed Lithosphere, and back to my true name of Fossil fuel, and I plan on making sure I'm never being separated from it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Survival Of The Clams Essay After Hurricane Matthew came through in North Carolina, along with the extremely hot summer, there was a larger amount of algae that inhabited the oceans. That is because the storm caused it to drift from freshwater rivers into the ocean. Also with increased temperatures throughout the summer, comes the increase of algae. While all of this was taking place, the algae inhabited many new and different areas, including the home of many clams. That caused many problems for the clams that lived in the areas where the algae inhabited it. Most of the clams that lived in that particular area were all light–colored, while the algae had a dark green color, which made the clams be easily seen by predators. During this time the clam population decreased. Birds would see the light–colored clams on top of the algae and fly down to grab them. They would then carry them to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were a very minimal amount of clams that had a darker shell. In this case it was a good thing, because the birds and other predators were not able to see them as clearly as the light–colored clams. While many of the other clams were being killed by predators these particular ones were able to reproduce making a new generation of clams. Many of the new generation clams had a darker shell than the previous. That is because of Darwin's theory of natural selection in regards to "survival of the fittest." "Survival of the fittest" means, in this case, that the dark–colored clams are considered the "fittest" since they are not being hunted, while the light–colored clams are being killed. The dark–colored shell is a favorable trait, causing it to be passed down to new generations. Favorable traits change (darker shell) as the environment changes (darker environment). However it does not mean that every new clam will be dark–colored, it just means that there will be more darker colored clams beginning now since it helps them survive in their ... • 5. Tundra Swan Research Paper There are only three types of swans and one is known as a Tundra Swan. They travel in groups found in the Arctic regions in the parts of the world. They are commonly known as whistling swans and their relative size is larger than a goose, but smaller than a Mute Swan. They are estimated at 89,620 tundra swans throughout the regions. The characteristics of the Tundra Swan is very similar to the rest of the swans, but it has a distinct difference. An adult Tundra Swan is completely white, but more often than not their heads and necks are stained a rusty color. This is because of the ferrous minerals found in the muddy water from feeding. The Tundra Swan has a black bill with a yellow spot at the base. The male swans are typically larger than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two Tundra Swan populations. They are known are the eastern and western populations. Since 1990 the western population has increased by 2% per year; leaving the average population as 89,620 swans in 2000. Also, since 1990 the eastern population has had a 5% increase per year; leaving the average population at 103,080 swans in 2000. Adding up both the eastern and western population,it is an average of 96,350 Tundra Swans. The Tundra Swan food sources depend on the region in which the swans live. The Tundra Swan mostly eat sea foods like the aquatic plants found in shallow waters. This consists of wigeon grass, sago, leaf pondweeds, and more. The Tundra Swan is not only a herbivore, they are also known for eating the clams. When the clams rise up on the shore they peck it open and eat the insides. In conclusion, the Tundra Swan eats plants and small sea animals like clams. Have you ever wondered if the Tundra Swan travels in herds or alone. If you answer either way then you are correct. It depends on what the swans are doing. The only time that they are not in herds is when they are trying to find a mate. Even at that some of the Tundra Swans are still in herds throughout the grounds. The herds consists of swans that failed at finding a mate or if they are too young to ... • 7. Faulty Hill Formation Research Paper At the intersection of Neva Road and U.S. 36 we examined three different members, the Smoky Hill, Fort Hayes, and Codell, which belong to two different formations, Niobrara and Benton. The Smoky Hill and Fort Hayes belong to the Niobrara formation while Codell belongs to the Benton Formation. In the Niobrara's Smoky Hill and Benton, Inoceramid clam (giant clam) fossils were found. These three formations are of Late Cretaceous. The Smoky Hill Member is mainly a calcareous mudstone, a rock outcrop that looks and behaves mostly like mudstone, but does have some characteristics of a limestone, like fizzing. The Smoky Hill is the youngest of the members. It is fine grained, dark to light gray, mudstone which breaks in rectangular like shapes. Mudstones are deposited in low energy environments, like ocean floor, deltas, or lakes. The Fort Hayes is in the middle of the two formations, and it is mainly made up of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This sandstone is a dark–ish gray–brown, medium to fine grained sandstone. This sandstone was the most hidden of all all the members, making it seem more easily erodible. Sandstones are usually deposited at a higher energy because as the energy level lowers the force can not longer hold the heavier particle. So, not only is the Codell member the oldest, but it had the most energy. Sandstone can be deposited at the beach, the shore of a lake, deltas or deserts. The Inoceramid clams found in the Niobrara formations leads to the assumption that the mudstone and limestone were deposited at the sea floor. Clams today are mostly found in the deep burrows of mud, and with the principle of uniformitarianism you can deduce that those clams were also most likely living on the sea floor. The clams living at the sea floor would be supported by the fact that the clam fossils were found in mudstone and limestone because mudstone is usually in lower energy environments like the sea ... • 9. Mote It Be: A Short Story Mote it be Tj Jones Sol's apartment was cluttered with an overabundance of evidence of his unusual art. His kitchen was stuffed to the brim with herbs. Ranging from mundane, like cinnamon, to the more extravagant. Stones and crystals sat in windows, hung above the door, and strangely enough, a light pink crystal sat in the coffee pot when not in use. His witchcraft was even evident in the things he drank and the things he ate. Every morning his coffee was infused with his witchcraft, a pinch of basil, when his check didn't cover the bills, a dash of nutmeg when his relationship was on the rocks. He never cooked without intent, sauteing only clockwise, making sure to never add herbs that would harm. If he was gifting cookies to a couple he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he likes you he can clarify the meaning of bird calls and babbling brooks. As he carefully examined the ingredients list trying to decipher how bad of an idea this was. Green thread was the first item on the list, this was looking good moneywise. But further down was a black crow feather almost certainly a sign of Caim. The more closely he looked at the ingredients the more certain he was that he was going to have to play host to an underworld's prince. He has made preparations in case this spirit was malicious, from witch bottles, a type of spell to have bad intentioned things from reaching you, to banishing sigils. Animal Farm Research Paper Pharmaceuticals are synthetic or natural chemicals that can be found in prescription medicines, over–the–counter therapeutic drugs and veterinary drugs (World Health Organisation, n.d). Pharmaceuticals can enter water sources through various ways such as agricultural runoff containing manure from farm animals, unwanted medicines that are flushed down toilets, drugs that have been disposed of incorrectly and also from inadequately managed production and manufacturing facilities. Pharmaceuticals in water not only have an effect on humans but can also have a significant impact on the wildlife present at the source. • 13. Carman's Gourmet Advertising Campaigns Carman's gourmet porridge has proven to be effective through the uses of elements like the presentation of the product, slogan, camera angles, the choice of colour and lighting. Carman is an Australian based food brand that makes food with passion. Due to its healthy ingredients, it is mainly targeted towards dieting, female or male audiences. The presentation of the product along with convincing slogan, have made the advertisement stand out, differentiating from the others. Whilst the focal point focuses on the served porridge, it also draws attention to the blurred background where the original packet was located. The resemblance od the porridge can be depicted which directs the audience to ponder upon how the product would be served in reality. With decorations like the knitted mitten, the coffee, the spoon and the book, casually being placed around the product, helps to portray a sense of warmth and cosy vibe during the winter. However, the use of too many decorations is unavailing as it created confusion towards the audience. Making it difficult for the audience to focus on the product. With a slogan like, 'a ... • 15. Digestive Systems Of The Earthworm, The Starfish, The... As evolution evolved, so did the digestive systems of various organisms. From earth worms to the fetal pig, the digestive systems have changed due to genetic and environmental factors for survival. The six organisms that we dissected in this course are the following: the earthworm, the clam, the crawfish, the starfish, the perch, and the fetal pig. We will discuss each organism's digestive system associated with their eating habits, discuss the changes in the digestive systems from the more primitive to the more advanced, and discuss how these advanced characteristics improved the efficiency of the organism's digestive system. The first organism we will talk about is the earthworm. Starting with earthworms in this report gives a bigger picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A perch's eating habits are to eat anything that swims (insect larvae, crustaceans), including their own relatives (cannibalism) (Painter 2002). Perch have sharp teeth to break down the tough food before using the tongue to swallow the food to start the digestion process. The esophagus is where the digestion process begins. Then the food is moved to the stomach to breakdown the food furthermore. After the stomach, the digesta goes to the pyloric caeca, which has glands that secretes digestive enzymes and absorb nutrients from the digested food. After the pyloric caeca, the digesta goes to the small intestines connecting to the anus. The perch produces bile in the liver for storing nutrients, fat breakdown, and blood protein breakdown. In the small intestines the gall bladder secretes the bile to help the digestive process (Dearolf 2005). After leaving the small intestines, the waste exits through the anus. Now, we will discuss the last dissected organism, the fetal pig, which resembles closet to the human digestive system. The food is broken down by teeth into bolus and has a large intestinal tract to increase the absorption of the nutrients from food and plants. Food passes through four regions in the stomach, starting from the superior to the inferior regions (esophageal, cardiac, fundic, and pyloric). • 17. The Venetian Laggon and Overfishing In recent years, the Venetian lagoon has been under the threat of devastating over–fishing. This tragic exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are not well defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This paper will investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable yield, and aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing from the Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached previously by multiple economists. Casari and Plott (2003), and McKean and Ostrom (1995) have investigated common property in the context of the unique case of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a forestry operation in northern Italy and successful common property regime which despite being a different resource is faced with many of the same risks and struggles as those faced by regulators of the lagoon. • 19. The Effects Of Corbicula Fluminea The Asian clam, Corbicula fluminea, is an invasive freshwater bivalve that is found in many streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs around the world (Bullard & Hershey, 2013). Originally native to Southeast Asia, it has had large ecological and economic impacts in many aquatic ecosystems (as cited in Gulyás, Sümegi, Szalóki, & Nenadic, 2012). Its asexual behavior, lack of need for a host, and strong sense of adaptability are the cause of its massive spread. Generally, Corbicula fluminea like warm climates and sandy silt–like substrate to burrow into, both of which can be found in the Laredo section [2304] of the Rio Grande River. White and purple color morphs have been discovered all over the world, and previous studies have suggested that this is due to the speciation of Corbicula (Wang, Li, Xiao, J. Zhang, & T. Zhang, 2014). However, there have been experiments where different results have been attained: it was found there where no distinct differences in morphological measures between the two color morphs – white and purple (Wang, Li, Xiao, J. Zhang, & T. Zhang, 2014). The underside of the shell is not the only notable difference in morphological measures. In general, most Corbicula fluminea shells are characterized by symmetrical valves, concentric ribs that are parallel to the growth lines surrounding the surface of the shell, and more notably, a variation of shell thicknesses, shapes, and colors (Gulyás, Sümegi, Szalóki, & Nenadic, 2012). Although Corbicula fluminea only grow to a relatively small maximum of 60 millimeters, the purple–nacre Corbicula is generally much smaller and more oval in shape than the larger and more sub–triangular white–nacre Corbicula (Howells, 2014). Purple–nacre Corbicula also tend to be dark brown to black in color, while white–nacre Corbicula is usually a yellow–green, tan, brown, to black color (Howells, 2014). • 21. Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad chemicals. However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater). Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive (Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves using plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very long time and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the ecosystems (Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in wetland habitats for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants to change harmful chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi–timely manner, but it is expensive. Comparatively, Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many bodies of water from past human transport and easy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Testing the Effect of Differing pH Levels on the Heart... The purpose of this investigation is to test the effect of differing pH levels on the heart rate of bivalve mollusks. Mollusca can be classified by their soft bodies, "head" and "foot" regions. They also generally have hard exoskeletons that cover their bodies. This is the case with snails and, of course, clams. Bivalve mollusks have a hard outer shell and soft insides. Their hearts are located towards the center of the umbo, which extends from the terminal end of the valve. The umbo is also the location at which their shell grows. The gills of a bivalve mollusk are lining the interior of part of their shell. Below the location of their heart is their foot, which is used to move or attach to various surfaces. Bivalve mollusks have been around since the Ediacaran period however, they only started diversifying during the Ordovician period. They themselves were not the dominant species but others along their family tree proved thrive during this time. In the present day, which was most likely much the same as in the past, the life cycle of a bivalve mollusk consisted of growing, having children, and the dying. They are born as males, as is the case of most mollusks, and later about half age into females. They eject their eggs and sperm into the sea and new mollusks are born. There is no larvae stage in the case of a couple types of mollusks so eggs hatch into smaller version of the adults that created them. EXPLANATION OF CLAIM: This claim says that it is acceptable for companies to move their business to other countries where the tax rate isn't as high so they can avoid paying more taxes than they would here in the US. It is legal for US businesses and organizations to move their practice to another country where the tax rate is lower. This is called "corporate inversion." In the United States, there are many rules and regulations when it comes to paying taxes as a business. There are also brackets that businesses are broken down into depending on their income and revenue. The corporate tax rate in the US is usually around 25% and it varies from around fifteen percent to thirty five percent. REASONS FOR THE CLAIM: 1. One of the most inspirational texts selected for this semester is written by Henry David Thoreau. In Walking, Thoreau discusses his opinions about existential questions through writing style choices and syntax. The beliefs of individualism and spirituality broadens Thoreau's theme and connects to the existential question,"What it means to be human". Biological invasions are generally considered an environmental threat, out competing native species and increasing community homogenisation. Importantly though, invasive species also alter ecosystems, yet little research has focused on whether invasions are a threat to their functioning or services. This encompasses two main debates: determining whether invasive species alter ecosystem functioning and, if they do, whether these impacts are positive or negative. After reviewing current literature in an effort to resolve this controversy, it seems that in most cases, non–native species do alter ecosystem functioning. However, whether this change had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact many studies suggest introductions can increase species richness and habitat complexity4, 5, though there is still a threat of ecosystem homogenisation6, and native species loss. Biological invasions are therefore understood to have a variety of effects, yet whether environmental processes will be altered remains unclear7. Ecosystem functioning may remain unaffected if the invasive organism performs the same role as the species that has been replaced, but the introduction of new functional traits or more efficient mechanisms could alter essential processes. If this is the case, the debate must refocus to assess whether these changes will be beneficial or detrimental. Eradicating non–natives to return the habitat to its natural state may lead to the loss of a functional trait that no longer exists within the native community, and so the loss of an essential ecosystem service. To make informed management decisions it is essential that we understand if, and how, biological invasions alter ecosystem functioning. This review aims to examine current literature to begin to resolve these two interconnected debates. Do invasive species alter ecosystem functioning? Nearly 2,000–9,000 pounds of Krill can fill a fully grown Blue whale daily, nearly 8,000 pounds of Krill is eaten during the whales peak consumption period. The next organism I identified is the Antartctic krill that is 6 centimeters in length. This animals is consumed by many marine animals such as the Blue whale, but what does the krill eat? The Antartctic krill consumes phytoplankton which is a componet of the Plankton family. Although the krill is transparent, it has coloration such as red, pink, yellow and blue. In conclusion, one can see that there are organisms that they may not have known exist or know anything about. This unit takes the reader around the world to observe beginiing with the Soran Desert, Antarctica, Yellowstone, Great Barrier Reef, Deep Ocean, and Central Park. • 57. Tridacna Research Paper Variables of Tridacna isotopes as environmental indicators. Ontogeny, zooxanthella symbiosis, trace elements, seasonality and relative living depth. Abstract (In progress) Isotopic profiles of mollusks provide insight to the biology of fossil and living specimen and the conditions under which they live in. Isotopic profiles record seasonal variance in temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen concentrations and can provide evidence of changes in bio mineralization in correlation with seasonality and ontology. The shells of Tridacna are beneficial for Pleistocene paleoceanography isotopic studies because of their large size making it easier to gain detailed samples of shell carbonate. The density of the shell better preserves original carbonate of the shell. Introduction to Tridacna The reef dwelling giant clam or Tridacna is one of the genuses that survived the waves of Paleozoic extinction. The genus Tridacna evolved over 65 million years ago in the Eocene along with modern corals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing isotopes of symbiont–bearing tridacnid clams and encrusting symbiont–free clam. The carbon isotopic composition of the symbiont– free bivalve and the symbiont–bearing bivalve Tridacna were found to be similar, suggesting that the presence of symbionts has no noticeable effect on the isotopic composition of Tridacna (Romananek et al., 1989). It was also found that the amplitude of δ18O was greater in specimens gathered from shallow water because of greater environmental variability (1989). Specimen found deeper had higher δ18O and δ13C when compared to the shallow specimen due to lower temperatures and the lesser influence of 13C depleted carbon from oxidation of organic matter in sediments and meteoric water (Romananek et al., ... • 59. Zola Accuses: Dreyfus has Been Framed Zola Accuses – Dreyfus has been Framed By 1898, the ubiquitous Dreyfus affair in France had developed into a situation in which French journalist Emile Zola felt that he needed to declare the truth of Dreyfus's conviction. He published a letter addressed to the President of the French Republic, using the information he had. Emile Zola validly argues in "J'Accuse" that the court martial framed Captain Alfred Dreyfus of selling French military secrets to the Germans, and he uses the important arguments that the court martial conducted an unreasonable examination, unlawfully convicted him of treason, and wrongly protected and claimed Commander Esterhazy's innocence. With this faulty conviction, Zola wrote, "France has this stain on her cheek" (1). Zola claimed that a weak and unreasonable examination was conducted in trying to find Dreyfus's guilt. Zola blamed Major Du Paty de Clam for the far–fetched examination. Zola wrote, "...it is him whom commander Forzinetti describes to us armed with a dark lantern, wanting to approach the sleeping defendant, to flood his face abruptly with light and to thus surprise his crime, in the agitation of being roused" (1). Du Paty de Clam used these types of far–out methods to try to make Dreyfus confess for a crime he did not commit – as Zola wrote, "One could not conceive of the experiments to which he subjected unhappy Dreyfus, the traps into which he wanted to make him fall, the insane investigations, monstrous imaginations, a whole ... Saranac Lake Effect Although lake George was able to benefit from the late–comer effect and learn lessons from Lake Tahoe, certain steps could have been done differently to better fight the clams. Lake George did spend less time forming the task force and formulating an initial plan of action. However, the best plan for stopping the spread of Asian clams is prevention. Moreover, Saranac Lake is the ultimate beneficiary of the late–comer effect. Organizations in Saranac Lake were able to view lake Tahoe's efforts as well as lake George's efforts and create the ultimate plan to battle the Asian clams, a plan centered around prevention. • 65. Einstein Of The Sea Summary The article that I read is called "Einstein of the Sea" written by Balcombe, Jonathan in Scientific American. I choose this topic because I think fish are amazing creatures that have different ways of interacting with the environment and with their own species. This article is about the unique cognitive and physical changes to certain fish that help them to survive. There was a video that showed how a certain fish proved this statement. A professor at the University of California, Giacomo Bernardi, recorded a video, while diving, of a wrasse using its' tool of shooting pressurized water to open a clam. This article shows the forms of tools of fish and what scientists think of them. Fish like the archerfish and wrasse have shown signs of advanced learning and cognitive ability. The archerfish for example can shoot precise water jets at bugs above the surface by seeing their trajectory direction, speed, and sometimes even mass. Giacomo Bernardi is thought to be the first to record a wrasse using its unique ability to shoot water on clams underwater. He is part of the reason why this topic is being reported in this popular science magazine. The other part is that scientists have just now pieced out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This topic is definitely an interest to me as well as the marine biologists. Previously, I knew that certain fish had unique abilities to get food but the technique of the archerfish has me surprised. They can shoot a strong burst of water or in a machine like fashion to bring down a bug from above water. This amazes me because they rely on a food source that does not even live in the water. "Archers may even aim just below their prey on a vertical surface to knock it straight down into the water" (page 68 paragraph ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Giant Clams Affecting Marine Algae The organism I removed from the food web is phytoplankton. The producers will be affected because giant clam would begin to eat more marine algae causing marine algae to decrease in population. Primary consumers will be affected because zooplankton rely on phytoplankton as their food source so without phytoplankton zooplankton will eventually die off. Giant clams and krill rely on marine algae as their food source so when Phytoplankton is taken away they both have to eat marine algae. Eventually there won't be any marine algae left for the two to eat so they too will become nonexistent. Secondary consumers will be affected because there would not be giant clam for box jellyfish, clownfish, and whale sharks to eat so they would either die or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Contagious Cancer Research Paper Cancer is not contagious– it isn't like the flu. For that, people tend to see Cancer as a terrible disease that could be worse but isn't. While it can take their family members from them, which can be a dismal pain, it cannot spread from person to person; it is not a threat to the world like the bubonic plague was. Ordinarily, the question of a contagious Cancer existing in the future ponders in the minds of scientist, mostly because it already does in animals. People are for a most part unaware of the existence of transmissible cancers, mostly because it is extremely rare. Apart from cases with oncoviruces, there has only been two recorded cases of a contagious cancer in humans. Both of these cases happened after accidentally inserting cancer cells in the body. One of them was a 19 year old who accidentally injected herself with the cancerous cells. The other was a surgeon who cut himself with an infected scalpel. Moreover, both of them are extreme and rare situations. Nevertheless, these types of cancers are relatively a lot more common in animals. Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor, or otherwise known as CTVT, is the oldest known Cancer to exist, having started about 11,000 thousand years ago with a husky–like dog. Scientists know this because when a person has cancer the cells die with the person and this is not true with CTVT. The Cancer cells from the original dog are still around today, these cells transferred to another dog during mating and have spread further from there. The Cambridge Research team of transmissible cancer has said that sometimes the mitochondrial DNA is swapped and create a "genetic flag" that has helped the researchers know how the cancer has spread. There are five varieties of mitochondrial DNA or "clades" today. The clades also help to learn the differences between each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Descriptive Narrative Essay I had waited 6 months for this day. The day we went to the beach for my 13th birthday. California beach specifically. We had to leave at 6 o'clock in the morning to get there on time so we could get in our hotel. It took us 7 hours to get there. When we finally got there it was beautiful. Me and my brother were jumping up and down in our seats at the sight of the beautiful clear blue water and the whitest sand i've ever seen. We got our bags out of the car, checked in, and headed up to our room. We unpacked, changed into our swimsuits and ran as fast as we could to the beach. After swimming for approximately 30 minutes in the salty ocean my brother thought it'd be a good idea to look for pretty seashells for our mom since mother's day was coming up. When we began to look we found some really good one's but then we saw the one; this beautiful cracked clam. We picked it up and ran to our mom. "Mom look, look! We found a clam for you for mother's day!" Me and my brother ecstatically said. "Aww, how sweet, let me see." Mom said in awe. "I love it! What's inside of it? There's something...glowing?" She said in discombobulation. She cracked the rest of the clam open and saw a red glowing pearl shaped object. "What's this?" Mom asked while all of us tilted our heads to the side perplexed. "It looks kinda dangerous kids, I don't want you guys near this. You better put it back." Mom said very cautiously. So me and my brother took the object gently and ambulated to the ocean to put ... • 73. Pig Dissection Lab Report Introduction Most animals don't have similar structures, but they all have same function to stay alive. All animals have a reproductive system, digestive system, nervous system Pig: Our fetal pig which we dissected is a female who was 100 days in the gestation period and has the length of 25 cm. In the pig dissection, we found the stomach and intestines. By the way it looks it seems to have similar functions of the human digestive system. The stomach breaks down the food while the intestine absorbs nutrients and water in the food. We also found the liver, pancreas, and colon. The liver filters the blood for toxin. In the respiratory system, we found the lungs, diaphragm, and trachea. Air goes into the snout, through the trachea, and into its lungs. The lungs would then release CO2 back up the trachea, and out the snout. The diaphragm compresses and releases the lungs so that CO2 could go out your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like the worm, the crayfish has segments that split its body into several parts. Crayfish segments often become fused, so parts of the crayfish may be multiple parts. Much like a skeleton the crayfish has a hard exoskeleton. The structures it uses to capture its prey or securing and eating food are its chelipeds, mandibles, maxillae, and maxillipeds. Rows of chitinous teeth line its stomach to help further break down its food. Earthworm: In our dissection of the earth worm we found they belong to a group of animals called annelids. This particular piece is a watercolor done on wove paper and it is 11 ½ x 9 ¾ in. The picture depicts two children walking the beach in a Massachusetts town with a bucket full of clams. In the distance you can see multiple sailboats in port and the big sailboat behind the children are there to show that this town is very driven by its boating life. There are two formal elements that Homer uses here to help capture the viewer and that is the use of color and lines.
