Twelve Characteristics Of Effective Early Childhood Teachers
b. The article called, "Twelve Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers" focus mainly
on the personal characteristics that an early childhood teacher should conserve. To begin with, there
are twelve characteristics that are included in the article, which are:"[...] Passion, Perseverance,
Willingness to take risks, Pragmatism, Patience, Flexibility, Respect, creativity, Authenticity, Love
of learning, High energy, and Sense of humor" (Colker, 3–5). However, in the article, "Twelve
Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers:" "[...] attempt to identify some of the key
characteristics early childhood teachers need to excel in their job" (Colker, 01). Nevertheless, some

Whether you agree or disagree, why or why not? I do agree that some teachers does not have the
same characteristics of teaching and it does not have to be the twelve that are written on the article. I
agree that some early childhood teachers conserve the passion of teaching young lives. I agree that
the twelve characteristics does not mean that there is a perfect early childhood teacher somewhere in
the world, but it means that there could be a change by putting in practice the twelve characteristics.
3. What you have learned from reading this article? From the article I learned there are "Twelve
Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers" that I was not aware of. I thought that some
of us came with the passion of teaching young children and that we should go to school to learn the
basic instructions of teaching young children. Now, that I have read the article I sort of understand
the idea of the teaching characteristics.
4. How you could use this information in your role as a classroom teacher? I could use this
information by putting into practice "The Twelve Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood
Teachers" that way I would be prepare and become a great early childhood teacher for my future
students. I could help maintain a great character in my school system and around my future

Nothing Affects Student Achievement More Than An Effective...
Nothing affects student achievement more than an effective classroom teacher. So, school
administrators must be diligent in their search for qualified teachers, and more importantly, utilize a
selection interview process that identifies the most qualified candidate or whether or not the
candidate truly wants the job. When hiring teachers, the goal is to find the most effective and highly
qualified candidates and to do this certain qualities and traits must be prevalent. As M. Mark
Wasicsko stated, "Most teachers who do not succeed fail because they do not have the right
dispositions" (2004). According to Dictionary.com, "disposition is the predominant or prevailing
tendency of one 's spirits; natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; characteristic attitude"
(2016). With this focus, certain characteristics about Ms. Morrison's disposition can be identified in
this case study.
As the candidate for a middle school physical education position, Ms. Morrison has some areas of
strength that could be beneficial and assist her in the teaching position. First, she worked her way up
from a sales clerk to store manager and never took leave from work for longer than 2 days, which
demonstrates hard work and dedication in her job. Ms. Morrison also had a great deal of experience
hiring and working with the personnel at her clothing. She even took the time to work with
employees who were not performing well at their job because she knew their performance would

Evaluating Kindergarten Teachers ' Perspectives About The...
CHAPTER 5
DISCUSSION
The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers' perspectives about the practice of
effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical
practices.
Study Implications
The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were
numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the
researcher's capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area of
interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered
considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from which
it comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the issue of
study. It can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be large enough
so that central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small sample size, it did not
contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the sample size, there was a
postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to the field would allow for a
pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By containing such a small sample
size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the past 5 years, it refuted the
capability to essentially run the

Mr. Mike is a math teacher I am observing at International High school. He has what it takes to be
an effective teacher. His first class starts at 9:15 am every day; he arrives to class early to get
everything set up before the students come in. Students arrive to class on time; Mr. Mike already has
the question for the new topic on the smart board. He starts his lesson by recalling what they learned
in the previous class. Then he introduces the new topic along with an interesting story; which seems
to grab student's attention. Mr. Mike shows a tremendous understanding and knowledge about the
topic. The topic is about a word problem where students have to guess how many people could fit on
a table if they keep adding tables together. Students have to draw a diagram of the situations; then
they have to find a formula to illustrate the problem. After finding the formula, they have to use it to
calculate how many people could fit if there are 50 or more tables together. Mr. Mike explains the
problem in details. The project he uses reinforced students to use different representation of these
mathematical problems. Every student completed the assignment. As a class, they discussed the
problem and to assess learning Mr. Mike provides them with a practice test where they had to make
up their word problem and solve it in the same manner as they did before. Mr. Mike knows how to

Teaching Is An Effective Teacher And Create A Better...
The community in which I will be teaching believes that character education should be taught in the
schools. As I plan to teach first and second graders in the elementary schools, I will include
character education in my classroom by using four simple rules. Be honest, be caring, have respect
and listen. Students, parents, faculty members and I will be expected to follow all of these simple
rules upon entering my classroom. We will be honest and truthful in the things we share. We will
care about others feelings, and make it a priority to have my classroom as a comfortable setting in
which my students can learn. We will have respect for all of whom enter into the walls of my
classroom. We will listen to the instruction given and follow it to its entirety and fullness. When we
fail to maintain one of these rules or standards, we will simply try again. As I plan to apply these
rules in every aspect, my goal is to become an effective teacher and create a better learning
environment for my students. In essence, I will have a classroom in which other students and
teachers will look to. I know that one way that I can apply these standards is by motivating my
students in learning and in their lives. Students need to be involved and learning as much as they
can. From personal experience, I know that where I learned the most was in settings in which were
comfortable, there was respect. My teachers cared and were interested in the activities I was

Effective Teachers Essay
Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An
effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students
with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life–long
learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way
that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on
the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and
providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and
personally. The education of students within classrooms of today is ... Show more content on

Constructivism is connected to the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky. Piaget believed that cognitive
development occurred in four stages that have distinct developmental characteristics. He theorised
that all information is organised into 'schemas', and this refers to the manner in which a child
organisesand stores information and knowledge received. As new information is received, it is either
incorporated into existing schemas (assimilation) or new schemas (accommodation) are created
(McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Vygotsky's theories compliment those of Piaget and place a greater
importance on social interaction as he considered cognitive development predominately was
achievedthrough social interaction. Vygotsky believed that learning could be accelerated with the
assistance of a more advanced peer or teacher. This concept is referred to as the zone of proximal
development (ZPD) and works in conjunction with the theory of 'scaffolding', where a teacher
provides support to student and as proficiency increases the scaffolding is decreased (Marsh, 2008).
Evidence of scaffolding is seen throughout the Maths video as Ms Poole provides an outline of the
lesson and the goals to allow students to establish a focus. The impact of the constructivist theorists

Characteristics Of An Effective Teacher
When comparing my evaluations of the qualities that produce effective educators from the
beginning of this course to what I now believe, it is clear that I have grown in my perceptions of this
field and what it takes to be a great teacher. In my Effective Teacher Baseline, I focused mainly on
the personal qualities that make an effective teacher, and I did not speak at all about the professional
qualities that exist as well. Education 1220 has taught me an enormous amount on the professional
traits and characteristics that effective teachers embody, and this is an expansion of my original
thoughts on the personal qualities that are found in great educators incorporated with the knowledge
I have gained over the course of the semester about the additional personal qualities expressed as
well as the professional roles effective teachers take on. Truly effective "superstars" (Stewart) are
found in combination of these many qualities, and this course has given me a clear path to follow for
my own future success as an educator. Professionalism in teaching is one of the many characteristics
that distinguishes a good teacher from a great one; while some educators may not take their job
seriously and sadly do not see the significance of their work, others know or at least attempt to
understand the deep–rooted complexities of the field of education and specifically the importance of
the individual role they play in this system. Teacher professionalism is essential to the integrity

Highly Effective Teachers
Assignment #1: The 7 Habits of Highly Affective Teachers.
A. Please read the article attached by Rick Wormeli and answer the following questions:
1. Give an example of how you are "cultivating perspectives and reframing" your teachers. If you
are not an administrator, how are you doing this with your students.
As an instructional coach for our special education teachers working with students who have autism,
I spend a portion of my time supporting early career special education teachers by just being fully
present and listening to their frustrations. Their frustrations are often not based on facts but their
interpretation of events. Those negative interpretations can kill early teachers love of teaching. In
coaching, I ensure I truly understand their concerns by paraphrasing their frustrations and then
reframing those statements using a more proactive perspective from which we can begin
brainstorming potential solutions.

process? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

caricature", and "explore the ethics of teaching" when providing teachers with feedback. As an

Competitive Edge Level 1: An Effective Teacher

experiencing one of the hardest areas of life a young person could deal with. At home, there was a
lot of neglect and abuse due to Adults living with Alcohol and other addictions. As a result of
personal abuse, I had become a rather overweight preteen. I had begun to use food as a comfort
measure and a way to self–protect. By the sixth grade I was regularly bullied, made fun of, ignored,
or humiliated. After an exhausting day of mental anguish, I would return home to a houseful of
partying adults. On other days, I would return home to a note with a twenty–dollar bill saying they
would come back sometime soon. But since this had been normal in my life

Classroom Management : An Effective Teacher
As a future educator, it is extremely important to prepare for what is in store for each year. Every
single class is different, and will bring something different to the table based on the different
students in each class. It is extremely important to have a classroom management plan for a group of
diverse learners for several reasons. From reading Wong's book First Days of School, How to be an
effective teacher, he states that after doing research in a study reviewing 11,000 pieces of research
that spanned 50 years, three researchers determined that there are 28 factors that influence student
learning, and the number one factor is classroom management. This is very clear that research backs
up how important classroom management is. It is what allows teachers to be effective teachers for
their students and are able to keep the students on track. Classroom management also offers
organization in the classroom. It refers to all of the things a teacher does to organize students, space,
time and materials so that learning can take place (Wong 1998). Without classroom management the
entire class would be out of control and very little to no learning would take place. There are several
types of strategies that need to take place in the classroom setting. For one, the teachers need
preventative, supportive and corrective strategies to implement classroom management. These are
all ways to help the classroom run smoothly, and ensure that the teacher is implementing classroom

Student Is An Effective Teacher
Every Student Deserves an Effective Teacher
The goal of educators is to provide every student with a highly qualified teacher who is confident,
passionate, inquisitive, creative, innovative, collaborative, free of prejudice and discrimination, and
understands the impact of the teacher–student relationship. Therefore, if we are to prepare pre–
service teachers' on the pathway to classroom success for the 21st century, we need university
teacher preparation programs to establish effective program methodologies that educate beginning
teachers on how to be confident, passionate, inquisitive, creative, innovative, collaborative, free of
prejudice and discrimination, and understands the impact of the teacher–student relationship.
Additionally, university programs must create programs that allow teachers to foster skills in
preparation for the challenges of teaching, and more importantly the challenges of classroom
management.
Unfortunately, a majority of teachers feel university teacher preparation programs have failed to
prepare them for the realities of the classroom, especially for the challenges of student behavior,
which is cited in the literature as pre–service teachers' biggest concern (Putman, 2009). Recently,
Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education stated, "Teacher candidates want training that makes
them better, sooner... All educators want to do a great job for their students, but too often they

Philosophy of Mathematics
A philosophy of mathematics should be included in an excellent philosophy of education. A
philosophy of mathematics should include your thoughts and ideas about what mathematics
education is, what impact it has on society, the qualities that make a good teacher, a teacher's role,
research on the standards and instructional strategies, and ways to ensure student are able to learn
mathematic concepts in your classroom. Each of these ideas should forever be evolving because we
grow as teachers our thought and ideas will grow. I will be discussing my thoughts and ideas on
what creates an excellent philosophy of mathematics.

Teachers also have to have special qualities to make them an effective teacher. According to Robert
J. Walker teachers need to have twelve basic characteristics that he highlights in his article Twelve
Characteristics of an Effective Teacher. The twelve characteristic included in the article are being
prepared, positive attitude, high expectations, creative, fair, personal touch, sense of belonging,
compassionate, have a sense of humor, respectful, forgiving and able to admit mistakes. I believe
Walker has encompassed all the important characteristic of an effective teach. These are all
characteristics that I possess, which will make me an effective teacher (Walker, 2008). Cathy L.
Seeley believes there are ten roles teachers have in the classroom that she highlights in her article
Ten Roles for Math teachers. I found these roles to be creative in description of their purpose. Those
ten roles are: 1) An architect for creating a learning environment. 2) A composer for creating the
tasks the student will engage. 3) A director because teachers determine how students will relate to
each other, their tasks, and the environment. 4) A stockbroker which is where the teacher analyzes
their own teaching and the students learning. 5) A ship captain, which deals with the unpredictable
factors and make sure the students ' learning does not veer off course. 6) A red jacket which helps
the students experience the connection between the different concepts of mathematics. 7) The

Ten Traits Of Highly Effective Teachers Chapter 1 Summary
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan
discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to
build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill,
thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as
opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their
findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don't Learn From People They Don't Like (Aspey &
Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly. They found the students who

Newman greets teachers most mornings with a smile on his face and says, "We are going to have a
great day today." While we are signing out in the afternoon, he says, "Today was great, but
tomorrow our day is going to be even better!" Most of us need encouragement on a daily basis. Not
only is Mr. Newman encouraging us but is including himself in the group when he uses the word,
"we." Facilitators benchmark 4.3 is about saying "we" instead of "I." I have heard the saying for
years, there is no "I" in the word "team." The phrase not only applies to a sports team but to a team
of educators as well. Students are not only taught by a set of teachers but the entire school staff.
According to benchmark 4.11, celebrating is a part of the facilitator's responsibility. In the book,
Steve Wilson and faculty celebrated when accomplishments were met. They had popcorn parties, ice
cream parties, and other celebrations. These celebrations help build a positive morale among
everyone involved. It is not always easily done but the rewards are great. This past year, Mr.
Newman allowed the student with the most reading points during the first nine weeks of school to
pour green slime over his head. Everyone meeting their reading goal was able to watch the event.
The students then had an ice cream party outside and extra recess time. The second nine weeks
reward was a pizza party with the principal. More students met their goal than before. By the end of

Evaluating Strategies For Retaining Effective Teachers
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate strategies when retaining quality teachers, and human
resource personnel tend to run into problems of retaining effective teachers. These issues tend to be
identifying quality teachers. The quality of a teacher is often seen after the teacher is in the
classroom by reviewing students annual standardized test scores. Determining the quality of the
teacher has been viewed in parallel of their pre–service training and university when recruiting. It
has been common to offer favorable incentives to recruit "quality teachers" and offer competitive
benefits to reduce the turnover rate. Large–scale education policy studies focus on relationships

The mission to secure and retain an effective teacher can be costly. However, the price to identify
and retain these teachers have been in question to policymakers. Large–scale education policy
studies focus on relationships between easily classifiable teacher background attributes and student
outcomes (Baker & Cooper, 2015; Ballou & Podgursky, 1995).
The role of the federal government expanded after The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and
heighten the pressure on schools to demonstrate student achievement (Smith, 2008), leaving schools
more accountable to education success. The NCLB act demanded high qualification standards for
teachers, but currently there is a shortage. Jacob (2007) describes the shortage as a number of
effective teachers the district wants to employ is greater than effective teachers willing to work for
given salary. Disadvantaged schools are unable to compete with higher salaries because of their
budget. This literature review will evaluate cost effective ways to retain effective teachers in schools
that lack resources.
Quality Teachers vs Effective Teachers.
School leaders need to be able to identify what they are looking for when recruiting and retaining.
Highly qualified teachers are measured by the competitiveness of their undergraduate institution, by
advanced degrees, by experience, and by scores of state licensure test (Clotfelter, Ladd, & Vigdor,
2006). As stated in Title II program of the U.S.

Summary: Diana (2011), points out how a classroom–based research project can help one become
an effective teacher leader. In this case, the author describes the action research as a solution that is a
tried–and–true professional development tool. The action research tool can be used to systematically
incorporate techniques used in the classroom such as; specific teaching methods, classroom
management strategies, and assessment tools. Educators are continually being held accountable for
positive student outcomes; they are using tools to help them make decisions through the use of
evidence based practices and analyzing student data. As teachers graduate from college to take up
their own classrooms, they need tools such as action research, to transform their practice into a
viable one where their students are able to learn successfully (Diana, Summer 2011).

Effective And Ineffective Teacher Student Relationships
The purpose of this study was to analyze the research findings on effective and ineffective teacher–
student relationships and the results on student achievement and behavior. Marzano discusses the
teacher's personality not necessarily pertaining to the quality of T–S relationship. The teacher should
act professionally as an advocate. Marzano claims that "Rather, the most effective T–S relationships
are characterized by specific teacher behaviors: exhibiting appropriate levels of dominance;
exhibiting appropriate levels of cooperation; and being aware of high–needs students." Dominance
does not mean force or control but rather providing a clear purpose and strong guidance to students,
both academically and behaviorally (Marzano, 2003). Teacher–student relationships are also formed
as a result of how things are run and the atmosphere of a classroom, primarily routines and
expectations. Dominance is also not referring to the teacher talking the whole time with limited or
no student interaction as seen in a study conducted by analyzing video–observations. Monologic T–
S interactions "...in which the teacher controls interaction and learners participate minimally...[result
in]...lower–performing classes...In these classes, students were less able to recall and understand the
content compared to upper–track classes, indicating that this type of monologic interaction was a

How Effective Teachers Become Partners With Parents
Effective Teachers Become Partners with Parents
Introduction
The success of students depends on effective teaching and this efficient coaching is not required
occasionally but every day in every classroom and discipline. An effective teacher not only
influences the students' academic interests but also has a great influence on his//her physical,
societal, emotional, and behavioral good (Killion & Hirsh, 2011). Teachers have a direct influence
on "how students learn, what they learn, how much they learn, and the ways they interact with one
another and the world around them" (Korkmaz, 2007). This effect on student achievement is
understandable and apparent because the student achievement starts and finishes with the
excellence, the instructional program, and guidance of the teacher (Korkmaz, 2007). However, the
occurrence of effective teaching is only possible when every concerned member including
parents/families, officials, community members, and educationalists contribute to the process of
uninterrupted progress and student achievement. An effective teacher is familiar with the fact that in
order to improve his/her teaching methods, effective professional learning is the only influential
pathway (Killion & Hirsh, 2011). One of the eight principles for effective teaching outlined in
Literacy for the 21st century: A Balanced Approach is that "effective teachers become partners with
parents" (Tompkins, Campbell & Green, 2012). It is not an untold secret that home and

The Importance Of A Learning Environment For An Effective...
Definition:
One of the most challenging tasks in being an effective teacher is to create a learning environment,
which adequately addresses the needs of all students. Effective teachers must be responsive to a
diverse range of student backgrounds, including linguistic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic
(1.3 AITSL, 2011). In addition, an effective learning environment includes an understanding of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students learning needs and incorporates differentiated teaching
methods to meet the needs of specific students' abilities (1.4 – 1.5 AITSL, 2011). Therefore, to be an
effective teacher aspiring to meet the 'Every Student Succeeding' policy (Education Queensland,
2016), in addition to well–developed content and pedagogical knowledge I will require a broad
knowledge, understanding, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures
and languages (2.4 AITSL, 2011). Cultural diversity is multidimensional and may range from,
language to beliefs, personal space to family roles, presence to the value of education, spirituality or
concepts of health and healing (Lee, Cosby, & deBaca, 2012). To address such diversity research, on
teaching practices, confirms there is a fundamental need for a Culturally Responsive Pedagogy
(CRP) (Lloyd, Lewthwaite, Osborne, & Boon, 2015). In order to be an effective and culturally
responsive teacher I must address the cultural norms students represent through the support of the

It may be a lesson in which the teacher very clearly outlines the order of all the planets in the solar

effectiveness of direct instruction has been shown to be supported by substantial research, and is the
most widely used method of teaching. A teacher may differentiate the delivery of their lesson plan
where appropriate, as well as include a range of resources to support their students learning.

questions they may want answered as to develop a well rounded knowledge. Some characteristics of

The Qualities Of An Effective Teacher Essay
To answer the question "what are the qualities of an effective teacher?" I will use two things: my
experience with phenomenal teachers and my work as a tutor and mentor throughout high school. I
have come to believe an effective teacher is like a musician. Teachers transfer knowledge to the
minds of students just as musicians transmit tunes to the ears of audiences. Both groups captivate
others and inspire them. Each unique interaction requires coordinated messaging. To achieve
successful "language" in the classroom, a teacher must control tenor and pulse in order to create an
optimal environment for positive learning. The first aspect to effective teaching requires the teacher
to have knowledge of the subject matter. However, this is complicated because the possession of raw
knowledge and the ability to recite facts are not sturdy enough crutches for an effective teacher.
Teachers must also be able to integrate information. An effective teacher must find a balance
between complexity and simplicity, creating students who are not broken records of unapplied
knowledge nor who simply seek points for accuracy. To achieve this balance, teachers must
meticulously articulate their own knowledge so that fresh minds are neither overwhelmed nor bored
by it. Similarly, a good musician constructs pleasant timbre; he doesn't simply spit out jumbled
arrangements of sound, he creates smooth harmony that leaves the audience craving more. How do
teachers present material so that students

Characteristics Of An Effective Teacher
"Average teachers teach a skill, until students get it right. Highly effective teachers work with
students until they can't get it wrong" (Jensen, 2016). An effective teacher makes good use of
instructional time and inspires students to do well and to know more. Each and every student in the
class has to feel comfortable and have the sense of belonging. The classroom has to be conducive to
learning and has the proper lighting so that learning can easily take place. Effective teachers are
required to put in extra time, work and commitment therefore; characteristics of an effective teacher
would include positive expectation, classroom management, and lesson mastery.
An effective teacher needs to plan ahead therefore he should incorporate classroom management.
Classroom management and management of student conduct are skills that teachers acquire and

values–oriented mentor and skills such as effective classroom management are central to teaching
and require "common sense," consistency, and courage. These skills also require that teachers

skills associated with effective classroom management are only acquired with practice, feedback,

A New Approach to Building Effective Teacher Leaders

Nicole L. Winsley |
A New Approach to Mentoring
A newly licensed teacher walks into her empty classroom on the first day of school. She has her
curriculum guide, her pacing calendar, her unit instructional plan, and her lesson plans for the first
week. She has her copies made and in her mind she has stored the countless hours' worth of
instruction she received for four years. The bell rings, and it is time for her first class. With a
somewhat nervous breath, she watches as students begin pouring in. At the end of the day, this new
teacher sits down at her desk – for what seems like the first time that day and begins to reflect back

By incorporating high–level questions administered by the coach and by the mentee, a partnership
of learning and growing is created. Additionally, utilizing Cognitive Coaching in the school system
allows new and veteran teachers to feel like they have say in their own professional development.
Reflecting back when I was a teacher, I felt a sense of being on my own for a majority of my first
year as a teacher. There were times when I would go to my mentor for advice and guidance
regarding an issue and she would give her experience and lessons that she learned from her own
experience. While I walked away with some methods and ways to improve, I did not have a clear
path as to how I should proceed in my classroom. I felt as if I was alone in my classroom. That that
my "mentor" was not helping me develop into an effective teacher. I had opinions about how she
handled the situation, and I had ideas about how I could my current situation. However the dialogue
between the two of us never allowed me to explore my own thought process. Cognitive Coaching
provides a potential end to teacher isolation and strives to improve teacher efficacy by "helping
teachers expand their repertoire of teaching styles by exploring untapped resources within
themselves" (Dildy, 2001). However, most school districts have New Teaching Programs seldom use
the cognitive coaching method. Most school districts assign a mentor and require new teachers to
attend monthly

Teacher Interview Report : An Effective Teacher
Teacher Interview Report
Brittni Darras is a young lady who knew since grade school she was destined to become a teacher.
Although her mother worked (and still works) for a school district when she was growing up, Brittni
says she developed a love of teaching on her own. She finished her undergrad in record time and
was accepted into the Master's of Arts in Teaching program at Colorado College when she was
barely in her twenties, graduating by the time she was twenty two. Although she has only been
teaching for a little over four years she has already learned a great deal about what it takes to be an
effective teacher. Brittni teaches 10th and 11th English at Rampart High School. There are
approximately 1600 students at Rampart High School and most classes have as few as 24 students
and no more than 33. Less than 15% of Ramparts students receive government provided meals and
approximately three students per class are on IEPs or 504s (There are approximately 200 combined
504s and IEPs in the entire school).
Interview Summary
Memories about Educational Psychology
Brittni remembers very little about the Educational Psychology course she took while taking her
undergraduate courses for her English Degree with an emphasis in Literature. She recalls writing a
lot of reader responses on behavioral theorists such as Piaget focusing on what stood out to them
about that week's reading.

Teachers ' Practice Through Effective Continuing...
Introduction
It is argued that to achieve educational reform and improve student learning, that the transforming of
teachers' practice through effective continuing professional learning is paramount (Hattie, 2003).
Dinham (2012) proposes that quality teaching is vital in terms of equity in allowing all students to
improve their life chances, the processes of supervision and appraisal are crucial in enabling
individuals to undertake self–reflective learning that leads to improved teacher practice and better
student outcomes. Jensen (2010) states that "improving the quality of Australia's teachers will create
the greatest improvements in student performance, and (provide) consequent economic and social
benefits" (p.63). Yet, for many teachers the notion of supervision and appraisal is seen as a
threatening process, and effective leadership is required to bring cultural change that allows these
processes to be empowering in instigating teacher improvement. This response will seek to explore
the usage of the terms supervision and appraisal, deliberate the value of these processes and describe
principles of leadership required to implement them in an effective manner.
Supervision and Appraisal
Before devising a set of principles that might lead to effective implementation of supervision and
appraisal in practice, it is essential to define the terms. Within the literature, it appears that both
supervision and appraisal have been described in a number of different ways. For some

Why I Am An Effective Teacher Essay
Great teachers are rare, are you an Effective Teacher
It has been stated that teaching is a craft and a highly skilled craft that can be learned. What is
consider to be an effective teacher? To keep this as simple as possible I could name a ton of
attributes, but to name just a few I would say an educator that knows how to dress for success or
maybe someone that has their classroom ready for learning, or even someone that knows how to
create effective assignments for their students. Also a great teacher has a love for learning, has high
expectations for each and every one of their students and even collaborates with colleagues on an
ongoing basis. Chelonnda Seroyer spent two months poring through The First Day of School and
using it as a guide for organizing for her first day of school. When the first day of school came, she
had a script. She had a classroom management plan.(iii) Effective teachers are supportive and
understand the importance of why students need good teachers to have personality, knowledge and
compassion.
Teachers have a significant role in influencing the lives of young children. With this duty comes
great pride and pleasure. Therefore, all educators should strive to be good and effective teachers.
Teachers are people that can change the lives of many. Just by being allowed to sit in a classroom
that has been created to enhance the knowledge and intelligence of people can be life changing.

My Ability As An Effective Teacher
I have always questioned my ability as an effective teacher. Every lesson I teach or conjure up in the
wee hours of the night requires the learner in mind. Hospitals are for patients, so schools should be
for students. Yet, there is a constant gravitation towards running schools based on money and
logistics. These issues are out of the educator's hands, but the ideals, and the decision makers, that
fuel them can have detrimental effects on the teachers recruited to the field and the effectiveness
with which these teachers continue through their career.
Year after year, professional development in public education seems to try to fix the same issues
with the same conversations and the same quick fix band aids. If these conversations were ... Show

I learned more about pedagogical skills, or the actual art of forming and lesson, reaching different
types of learners, meeting different needs, and closing achievement gaps in my graduate studies to
becoming a reading specialist, my principal certification, and my own personal experiences as a
teacher in the classroom. Although at the time I wanted my student teaching to be completed as fast
as possible, I now understand that more knowledge of my subject was necessary. Professional
development books became a weekly buy at Barnes and Noble because I was constantly trying to
figure out a better way to educate students.
University programs feel their programs are extensive enough to prepare individuals for the
classroom. As long as departments meet accreditation requirements, the effectiveness with which
these courses are taught weaken and only passing rates on final exams are scrutinized. One semester
of student teaching, coupled with field experience and a few education classes are deemed enough to
fill much needed teaching positions simply because there is a shortage of teachers. If the track to
obtain a degree is easy, there are more students. More students mean more money for the university.
More graduates mean more empty teaching jobs filled.
Student achievement is the underpinning of education and is directly correlated to teacher
effectiveness; therefore,

Danielson's main purpose in writing the article is to explain the need for a more effective type of

there are skilled evaluators. When thinking about the criteria of the evaluation providing
professional development Danielson describes some key features it must contain. She talks about
how there should be two way communication between colleagues that observe in each other

for teachers to have a career long commitment to better practices. Danielson also speaks about the
importance of having highly trained evaluators to make an evaluation system credible. She speaks
about how an administrator needs to practice and focus on how to pick out pieces of a lesson being
taught that can meet the components of the definition laid out for effective teaching. There are a lot
of strengths in the new form of evaluation that Danielson suggests. A couple of those strengths
include collaboration and definitions of good teaching. A good point she made about the
collaboration and conversation between an administrator and teacher during this type of evaluation
is " Evaluator–teacher conversations, when conducted around a common understanding of good
teaching––and around evidence of that teaching––offer a rich opportunity for professional dialogue
and growth" (ASCD & Danielson, 2010). When Danielson spoke about the importance of creating a

Essay On Effective Teacher
This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever
since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a
second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because
my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro's class I enjoyed being
able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little
children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned
that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have
to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more.
But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who
surround you. Many educators will argue what makes an effective teacher and how that correlates
with the function of the classroom. When we talked about how to be an effective teacher we
discussed three components, teaching through problem–solving and selecting appropriate tasks,
creating appropriate environments and using appropriate interventions. In my field experience, I was
able to observe these three effective mathematics teaching components and understand how they
apply to the classroom. After leaning about these components, I was then able to use them in my
personal experience and see how they

Danielson describes two main reasons why we should evaluate teaching including making sure that
you have high quality teaching and for professional development. She makes the point that these
two reasons are not able to be met by the old method of checklist evaluation. For a teacher
evaluation to be effective and useful they need to be able to meet both types of criteria including
evaluating high level teaching and professional development. Danielson explains that when thinking
about the criteria of evaluating high level teaching that there are important parts of the process that

The Importance Of An Effective Teacher
Educating is as intricate as the learning procedure is for each student. Educating is not just lecturing
in front of the class and later on give them tests to assess their knowledge. Being a teacher your style
must adapt constantly for the diversity of the children in our classroom as well as their learning
styles. To be viable in my work, planning and managing your time is crucial in setting up
appropriate lesson plans for the children. I trust that with information I have accumulated
throughout the years on the qualities of an effective teacher, I will have the capacity to arrange
strategies and imaginatively design strategies for difficulties and issues that I will experience in the
classroom environment. The key to success would be to always keep in mind the child 's needs and
to understand how society is evolving. The learning process isn't the same in all children but instead
it is an intricate procedure where each student learns differently even as they get older. This occurs
by the brain and its astounding ability to recall occasions and learn things. Not all children are the
same so it is important to figure out and understand how their brain works. The brain is separated
into three principle areas to be specific, the forebrain which is in charge of the learning process, the
midbrain and hindbrain. Located in the midbrain is the cerebral cortex, which is in charge of
memory, recognition and thought. Having realized that the mind is involved in learning, it

Qualities of an Effective Teacher
What it means to be an effective teacher
Introduction
An effective teacher is someone who increases the understanding of a pupil. Effective teaching is
the ability of providing instructions to students of varying abilities while incorporating instructional
objectives and assessing the effective education form of students. In the evaluation of performance,
efficiency on the lesson plan and technique of delivery forms form part of the criteria taken into
consideration. The teacher's practices that ensure the higher level of assessment and active
participation are most successful. This outdo all the factors, such as size of the class, socioeconomic
conditions and gender (Sullivan 2001). The most significant aspect that gears a student to perform
well is the teachers details of classroom practices as demonstrated in one of the video links "Pre–
primary: Science –> Mini Beasts". They must have sufficient familiarity with the techniques and
methods associated with their career and must certify that the pupil learning must develop over the
course of the year (Sullivan 2001). Majorly presumed methods of quantifying teacher effectiveness
include pupils work, teacher's assessments, and lesson plans. An effective teacher employs creativity
in the classroom. It is both necessary to the student and teacher. Creativity involves qualities like
imagination, originality, and self–expression. The teacher should encourage the use of imagination
as implied in the video footage. Imagination

What Does An Effective Teacher Do In This Chapter?
Effective teachers show steps before given the first direction; they stand at the door when the
students arrive and they assign seating for every student.
Also, effective teachers follow some steps to make the first request effective:
Step 1: Check the registration card at the door.
Step 2: They smile.
Step 3: Look at the students' eyes when they welcome them.
Step 4: Lower their voice and speak slowly while giving directions.
Step 5: Encourage the students to follow the directions. For example: they say "When you sit down,
you will find an activity on your desk. I think you will enjoy doing it, please begin to work on it
right away. Thank you."
Ineffective teachers on the first day do not care about welcoming the students. The might not be in
the class when the students arrive at the class time. Also, ineffective teachers do not care about the
class information or introducing themselves. They may also do not check the students' registration
card. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What It Means to Be an Effective Teacher
Introduction
"Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in life." That was the view of
the characters Thomas Gradgrind and Mr M'Choakumchild, created by Charles Dickens in his novel
Hard Times, a novel which satirises school teachers who teach "nothing but facts" and regards
students as "little vessels ... ready to have imperial gallons of facts poured into them until they were
full to the brim." Reciting facts for students to absorb is undoubtedly an easy method of teaching,
but is it effective?
This essay attempts to answer the question of what it means to be an effective teacher by examining
in more detail five areas that, when implemented effectively, can help to produce a productive

Initially, a teacher needs to decide what is important to learn (Anderson & Krathwohl as cited by
Eggen & Kauchak, 2010, p.390) and, in order to do this the teacher must have a good understanding
of their student's current knowledge of the topic and their abilities (Whitton et al., 2010). If, as
suggested in paragraph four, the teacher has taken the time to get to know each of their students, this
knowledge will be to hand when it comes to planning the lesson.
Furthermore, as part of the overall lesson plan, an effective teacher will specify the objectives that
are to be achieved, that is, what students should have learnt or be able to do with the information
taught (Whitton et al., 2010). This ensures that the teacher can design their learning activities
effectively, stay on–topic and control the momentum of the lesson – an important factor in effective
classroom management according to Kounin (as cited by Hurst & Cooke, p.232).
The method by which the content will be delivered also has to be considered when planning a
lesson, and variety in delivery is important to offer students different ways in which to learn
(Featherston, 2007). The instructional strategy chosen will vary depending upon the topic, the age of
the students and their prior knowledge, although teachers who want their students to focus on
thinking and reasoning will naturally integrate group work and activities with instruction and

The Impact on a Student's Performance from a Highly...
INTRODUCTION
Consider a student running so swiftly from boarding house to school for his/her class. And in the
time that he/she is right there in front of the door, the teacher welcome him with an eyes wide open
and uttered, "Did I ever fail to tell you not to enter my class if you are late even in a single minute?"
And the pitiful student left with nothing but a teary eyes. As you put your shoe to the students'
situation, what would you feel? Will you feel discouraged or will you take it as a challenge not to be
late again? Supporting to that, this paper aims to appeal who are these teachers are and their
effectiveness on enhancing the students learning, the pros and cons of a high standard teacher, and
the feedbacks of the students once handled by a high standard teacher. To implement this study, the
method to be used is by interviewing some students once handled by a high standard teacher. We
will know how and what do they think and feel whenever these teachers enter to the classroom and
how these happenings affect their performance on that particular subject. Education is considered as
learning itself. In education, a teacher has its own way to make it profound, realistic, and a peculiar
one. This may vary from person–to–person or from teacher–to–teacher. Moreover, learning is a two
way process. There is an interaction between the educator and the learner. In every learning
condition, you have to consider the barriers also, and such barriers includes high

Effective Teachers Use a Variety of Educational Philosophies
Being a school teacher is something I have wanted to do since I was a very young child. I believe
education should be a part of everyone's life because it helps students to develop a sense of
creativity, a sense of reasoning, and a sense of respect. There are many different philosophies used
in the classroom ranging from social reconstructionism to essentialism. My philosophy on education
is a combination of my ideas and beliefs. I have an eclectic view of the philosophies and will not
apply just one philosophy in my teaching. I believe an effective teacher uses a variety of educational
philosophies in the classroom.

Along with discipline in progressivism, I also agree with the teaching style. I believe it is important
for a teacher to assist learning rather than guide it. Children must learn to think critically, to problem
solve, and to make decisions on their own. I believe cooperative learning groups are the best way to
accomplish this goal. Working with peers allows students more exposure rather than keeping their
ideas to themselves.
In addition to progressivism, I agree with the ideas of social recontructionism. I think it is important
for students to be motivated and with this philosophy children are encourages to study his or her
own culture and to emphasize on social issues. Children of today will be the adults of tomorrow, so I
think they should understand community problems. I do not agree with putting them in the middle
of society's problems, but not leaving them in the dark either.
Along with discipline, teaching styles, and motivation being important, there is also classroom
management. Classroom management may be the most valuable element to teaching today. If you
do not have control of your classroom, you will not be an effective teacher. I believe students respect
teachers who are organized and have control. The children know what to expect and know what is
expected of them; it makes things run smoothly.
The classroom will be the place of learning, so it must accommodate the

Evaluation Of An Effective Teacher And Parent Is Positive
When a new concept is introduced, it needs to be reconciled with our previous ideas and experience.
We may need to change what we believe, but in any case, as educators we need to remain receptive
acceptors of new ideas and enhance our own knowledge. To do this, we must ask questions, explore,
and assess our shared similar experiences, as we observe each other and discuss teaching
methodologies. This type of inquiry helps us improve by strengthening connections among us, the
educators. We are encouraged to create stimulating discussions about our professional practices,
thereby, building on one another's expertise. To discover solutions and address the needs of our
students, we need continuous inquiry and contemplative dialogue. Much of the current thought is
that a continuing relationship between parents and teachers requires a commitment to practice
effective communication, yet what happens is sometimes is the back and forth verbal intended
message is miscommunicated. It is critical that in the initial interaction between a teacher and parent
is positive. This means that in order to develop an effective parent/teacher relationship, do not enter
the communication relationship with any negative preconceived feelings, as this will hinder the
teacher and the parent relationship thus unable then to function as a team. When both parties are
communicating and focusing not what each other is saying but rather on your next comment or even
incorrectly anticipating what the

What Makes an Effective Teacher Effective
"When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts," This quote by
the Dalai Lama truly shows what a teacher must do to be effective. It takes a very special person to
be a teacher, teachers work with the leaders of tomorrow. There are many basic things as well that
teachers must do to be highly effective according to the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. First a
teacher must be understanding as well as accepting of different cultures and beliefs. Second, a
teacher must find different ways to teach their students. Last, a teacher needs to plan and be
organized in order to allow their students a positive learning environment. In the paragraphs below,
these necessary skills will be discussed in much greater detail.
In Standard Two Section D of the Utah Effective Teaching Standard, it states that a highly effective
teacher, "bridges school and community cultures by connecting multiple perspectives and
encouraging students to learn from each other." Teachers have their own personal beliefs, they are
human beings, but they have to realize that not every one else shares the same beliefs that they do.
Teachers must understand that not all cultures believe or do the same things that are encouraged in
school. In the Week three Essential Questions, the first question asks, "how does culture diversity
influence learning?" One example of how cultural

I do agree that some teachers does not have the same characteristics of teaching and it does not have to be the twelve that are written on the article. I agree that some early childhood teachers conserve the passion of teaching young lives. I agree that the twelve characteristics does not mean that there is a perfect early childhood teacher somewhere in the world, but it means that there could be a change by putting in practice the twelve characteristics. 3. What you have learned from reading this article? From the article I learned there are "Twelve Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers" that I was not aware of. I thought that some of us came with the passion of teaching young children and that we should go to school to learn the basic instructions of teaching young children. Now, that I have read the article I sort of understand the idea of the teaching characteristics. 4. How you could use this information in your role as a classroom teacher? I could use this information by putting into practice "The Twelve Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers" that way I would be prepare and become a great early childhood teacher for my future students. So, school administrators must be diligent in their search for qualified teachers, and more importantly, utilize a selection interview process that identifies the most qualified candidate or whether or not the candidate truly wants the job. When hiring teachers, the goal is to find the most effective and highly qualified candidates and to do this certain qualities and traits must be prevalent. As M. Mark Wasicsko stated, "Most teachers who do not succeed fail because they do not have the right dispositions" (2004). According to Dictionary.com, "disposition is the predominant or prevailing tendency of one 's spirits; natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; characteristic attitude" (2016). With this focus, certain characteristics about Ms. Morrison's disposition can be identified in this case study. As the candidate for a middle school physical education position, Ms. Morrison has some areas of strength that could be beneficial and assist her in the teaching position. First, she worked her way up from a sales clerk to store manager and never took leave from work for longer than 2 days, which demonstrates hard work and dedication in her job. Ms. Morrison also had a great deal of experience hiring and working with the personnel at her clothing. She even took the time to work with employees who were not performing well at their job because she knew their performance would ultimately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Evaluating Kindergarten Teachers ' Perspectives About The... CHAPTER 5 DISCUSSION The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers' perspectives about the practice of effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical practices. Study Implications The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the researcher's capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area of interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from which it comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the issue of study. It can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be large enough so that central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small sample size, it did not contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the sample size, there was a postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to the field would allow for a pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By containing such a small sample size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the past 5 years, it refuted the capability to essentially run the ... Effective teaching is when a teacher educates to the best interest of his students. An effective teacher should have an outstanding knowledge of the contents they are teaching; they should explain the contents in extensive details and use different strategies to enhance student's interest and learning. Moreover, an effective teacher should trust their students and understand their social and emotional needs. They should have a positive assumption for students' success and believe that all students are capable to assess higher forms of thinking and learning, if they give them appropriate and ... His first class starts at 9:15 am every day; he arrives to class early to get everything set up before the students come in. Students arrive to class on time; Mr. Mike already has the question for the new topic on the smart board. He starts his lesson by recalling what they learned in the previous class. Then he introduces the new topic along with an interesting story; which seems to grab student's attention. Mr. Mike shows a tremendous understanding and knowledge about the topic. The topic is about a word problem where students have to guess how many people could fit on a table if they keep adding tables together. Students have to draw a diagram of the situations; then they have to find a formula to illustrate the problem. After finding the formula, they have to use it to calculate how many people could fit if there are 50 or more tables together. Mr. Mike explains the problem in details. The project he uses reinforced students to use different representation of these mathematical problems. Every student completed the assignment. As a class, they discussed the problem and to assess learning Mr. Mike provides them with a practice test where they had to make up their word problem and solve it in the same manner as they did before. • 9. Teaching Is An Effective Teacher And Create A Better... The community in which I will be teaching believes that character education should be taught in the schools. As I plan to teach first and second graders in the elementary schools, I will include character education in my classroom by using four simple rules. Be honest, be caring, have respect and listen. Students, parents, faculty members and I will be expected to follow all of these simple rules upon entering my classroom. We will be honest and truthful in the things we share. We will care about others feelings, and make it a priority to have my classroom as a comfortable setting in which my students can learn. We will have respect for all of whom enter into the walls of my classroom. We will listen to the instruction given and follow it to its entirety and fullness. When we fail to maintain one of these rules or standards, we will simply try again. As I plan to apply these rules in every aspect, my goal is to become an effective teacher and create a better learning environment for my students. In essence, I will have a classroom in which other students and teachers will look to. I know that one way that I can apply these standards is by motivating my students in learning and in their lives. Students need to be involved and learning as much as they can. From personal experience, I know that where I learned the most was in settings in which were comfortable, there was respect. My teachers cared and were interested in the activities I was involved in. • 11. Effective Teachers Essay Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life–long learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and personally. The education of students within classrooms of today is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Constructivism is connected to the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky. Piaget believed that cognitive development occurred in four stages that have distinct developmental characteristics. He theorised that all information is organised into 'schemas', and this refers to the manner in which a child organisesand stores information and knowledge received. As new information is received, it is either incorporated into existing schemas (assimilation) or new schemas (accommodation) are created (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Vygotsky's theories compliment those of Piaget and place a greater importance on social interaction as he considered cognitive development predominately was achievedthrough social interaction. Vygotsky believed that learning could be accelerated with the assistance of a more advanced peer or teacher. This concept is referred to as the zone of proximal development (ZPD) and works in conjunction with the theory of 'scaffolding', where a teacher provides support to student and as proficiency increases the scaffolding is decreased (Marsh, 2008). Evidence of scaffolding is seen throughout the Maths video as Ms Poole provides an outline of the lesson and the goals to allow students to establish a focus. • 13. Characteristics Of An Effective Teacher When comparing my evaluations of the qualities that produce effective educators from the beginning of this course to what I now believe, it is clear that I have grown in my perceptions of this field and what it takes to be a great teacher. In my Effective Teacher Baseline, I focused mainly on the personal qualities that make an effective teacher, and I did not speak at all about the professional qualities that exist as well. Education 1220 has taught me an enormous amount on the professional traits and characteristics that effective teachers embody, and this is an expansion of my original thoughts on the personal qualities that are found in great educators incorporated with the knowledge I have gained over the course of the semester about the additional personal qualities expressed as well as the professional roles effective teachers take on. Truly effective "superstars" (Stewart) are found in combination of these many qualities, and this course has given me a clear path to follow for my own future success as an educator. Professionalism in teaching is one of the many characteristics that distinguishes a good teacher from a great one; while some educators may not take their job seriously and sadly do not see the significance of their work, others know or at least attempt to understand the deep–rooted complexities of the field of education and specifically the importance of the individual role they play in this system. Teacher professionalism is essential to the integrity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Highly Effective Teachers Assignment #1: The 7 Habits of Highly Affective Teachers. A. Please read the article attached by Rick Wormeli and answer the following questions: 1. Give an example of how you are "cultivating perspectives and reframing" your teachers. If you are not an administrator, how are you doing this with your students. As an instructional coach for our special education teachers working with students who have autism, I spend a portion of my time supporting early career special education teachers by just being fully present and listening to their frustrations. Their frustrations are often not based on facts but their interpretation of events. Those negative interpretations can kill early teachers love of teaching. In coaching, I ensure I truly understand their concerns by paraphrasing their frustrations and then reframing those statements using a more proactive perspective from which we can begin brainstorming potential solutions. 2. Competitive Edge Level 1: An Effective Teacher Journal Action #3 (Competitive Edge Level 1) An Effective Teacher In the sixth grade, I was experiencing one of the hardest areas of life a young person could deal with. At home, there was a lot of neglect and abuse due to Adults living with Alcohol and other addictions. As a result of personal abuse, I had become a rather overweight preteen. I had begun to use food as a comfort measure and a way to self–protect. By the sixth grade I was regularly bullied, made fun of, ignored, or humiliated. After an exhausting day of mental anguish, I would return home to a houseful of partying adults. • 19. Classroom Management : An Effective Teacher As a future educator, it is extremely important to prepare for what is in store for each year. Every single class is different, and will bring something different to the table based on the different students in each class. It is extremely important to have a classroom management plan for a group of diverse learners for several reasons. From reading Wong's book First Days of School, How to be an effective teacher, he states that after doing research in a study reviewing 11,000 pieces of research that spanned 50 years, three researchers determined that there are 28 factors that influence student learning, and the number one factor is classroom management. This is very clear that research backs up how important classroom management is. It is what allows teachers to be effective teachers for their students and are able to keep the students on track. Classroom management also offers organization in the classroom. It refers to all of the things a teacher does to organize students, space, time and materials so that learning can take place (Wong 1998). Without classroom management the entire class would be out of control and very little to no learning would take place. There are several types of strategies that need to take place in the classroom setting. For one, the teachers need preventative, supportive and corrective strategies to implement classroom management. These are all ways to help the classroom run smoothly, and ensure that the teacher is implementing classroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Student Is An Effective Teacher Every Student Deserves an Effective Teacher The goal of educators is to provide every student with a highly qualified teacher who is confident, passionate, inquisitive, creative, innovative, collaborative, free of prejudice and discrimination, and understands the impact of the teacher–student relationship. Therefore, if we are to prepare pre– service teachers' on the pathway to classroom success for the 21st century, we need university teacher preparation programs to establish effective program methodologies that educate beginning teachers on how to be confident, passionate, inquisitive, creative, innovative, collaborative, free of prejudice and discrimination, and understands the impact of the teacher–student relationship. Additionally, university programs must create programs that allow teachers to foster skills in preparation for the challenges of teaching, and more importantly the challenges of classroom management. Unfortunately, a majority of teachers feel university teacher preparation programs have failed to prepare them for the realities of the classroom, especially for the challenges of student behavior, which is cited in the literature as pre–service teachers' biggest concern (Putman, 2009). The twelve characteristic included in the article are being prepared, positive attitude, high expectations, creative, fair, personal touch, sense of belonging, compassionate, have a sense of humor, respectful, forgiving and able to admit mistakes. I believe Walker has encompassed all the important characteristic of an effective teach. These are all characteristics that I possess, which will make me an effective teacher (Walker, 2008). Cathy L. Seeley believes there are ten roles teachers have in the classroom that she highlights in her article Ten Roles for Math teachers. I found these roles to be creative in description of their purpose. Those ten roles are: 1) An architect for creating a learning environment. 2) A composer for creating the tasks the student will engage. 3) A director because teachers determine how students will relate to each other, their tasks, and the environment. 4) A stockbroker which is where the teacher analyzes their own teaching and the students learning. 5) A ship captain, which deals with the unpredictable factors and make sure the students ' learning does not veer off course. 6) A red jacket which helps the students experience the connection between the different concepts of mathematics. 7) The ... Ten Traits Of Highly Effective Teachers Chapter 1 Summary In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don't Learn From People They Don't Like (Aspey & Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly. Newman greets teachers most mornings with a smile on his face and says, "We are going to have a great day today." While we are signing out in the afternoon, he says, "Today was great, but tomorrow our day is going to be even better!" Most of us need encouragement on a daily basis. Not only is Mr. Newman encouraging us but is including himself in the group when he uses the word, "we." Facilitators benchmark 4.3 is about saying "we" instead of "I." I have heard the saying for years, there is no "I" in the word "team." The phrase not only applies to a sports team but to a team of educators as well. Students are not only taught by a set of teachers but the entire school staff. According to benchmark 4.11, celebrating is a part of the facilitator's responsibility. In the book, Steve Wilson and faculty celebrated when accomplishments were met. They had popcorn parties, ice cream parties, and other celebrations. These celebrations help build a positive morale among everyone involved. It is not always easily done but the rewards are great. This past year, Mr. Newman allowed the student with the most reading points during the first nine weeks of school to pour green slime over his head. Evaluating Strategies For Retaining Effective Teachers Abstract The purpose of this study is to evaluate strategies when retaining quality teachers, and human resource personnel tend to run into problems of retaining effective teachers. These issues tend to be identifying quality teachers. The quality of a teacher is often seen after the teacher is in the classroom by reviewing students annual standardized test scores. Determining the quality of the teacher has been viewed in parallel of their pre–service training and university when recruiting. It has been common to offer favorable incentives to recruit "quality teachers" and offer competitive benefits to reduce the turnover rate. The mission to secure and retain an effective teacher can be costly. However, the price to identify and retain these teachers have been in question to policymakers. Large–scale education policy studies focus on relationships between easily classifiable teacher background attributes and student outcomes (Baker & Cooper, 2015; Ballou & Podgursky, 1995). The role of the federal government expanded after The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and heighten the pressure on schools to demonstrate student achievement (Smith, 2008), leaving schools more accountable to education success. The NCLB act demanded high qualification standards for teachers, but currently there is a shortage. Jacob (2007) describes the shortage as a number of effective teachers the district wants to employ is greater than effective teachers willing to work for given salary. Disadvantaged schools are unable to compete with higher salaries because of their budget. This literature review will evaluate cost effective ways to retain effective teachers in schools that lack resources. Quality Teachers vs Effective Teachers. School leaders need to be able to identify what they are looking for when recruiting and retaining. Highly qualified teachers are measured by the competitiveness of their undergraduate institution, by advanced degrees, by experience, and by scores of state licensure test (Clotfelter, Ladd, & Vigdor, 2006). In this case, the author describes the action research as a solution that is a tried–and–true professional development tool. The action research tool can be used to systematically incorporate techniques used in the classroom such as; specific teaching methods, classroom management strategies, and assessment tools. Educators are continually being held accountable for positive student outcomes; they are using tools to help them make decisions through the use of evidence based practices and analyzing student data. As teachers graduate from college to take up their own classrooms, they need tools such as action research, to transform their practice into a viable one where their students are able to learn successfully (Diana, Summer 2011). Effective And Ineffective Teacher Student Relationships The purpose of this study was to analyze the research findings on effective and ineffective teacher– student relationships and the results on student achievement and behavior. Marzano discusses the teacher's personality not necessarily pertaining to the quality of T–S relationship. The teacher should act professionally as an advocate. Marzano claims that "Rather, the most effective T–S relationships are characterized by specific teacher behaviors: exhibiting appropriate levels of dominance; exhibiting appropriate levels of cooperation; and being aware of high–needs students." Dominance does not mean force or control but rather providing a clear purpose and strong guidance to students, both academically and behaviorally (Marzano, 2003). Teacher–student relationships are also formed as a result of how things are run and the atmosphere of a classroom, primarily routines and expectations. Dominance is also not referring to the teacher talking the whole time with limited or no student interaction as seen in a study conducted by analyzing video–observations. Monologic T– S interactions "...in which the teacher controls interaction and learners participate minimally...[result in]...lower–performing classes...In these classes, students were less able to recall and understand the content compared to upper–track classes, indicating that this type of monologic interaction was a factor in sustaining inequalities." • 33. How Effective Teachers Become Partners With Parents Effective Teachers Become Partners with Parents Introduction The success of students depends on effective teaching and this efficient coaching is not required occasionally but every day in every classroom and discipline. An effective teacher not only influences the students' academic interests but also has a great influence on his//her physical, societal, emotional, and behavioral good (Killion & Hirsh, 2011). Teachers have a direct influence on "how students learn, what they learn, how much they learn, and the ways they interact with one another and the world around them" (Korkmaz, 2007). This effect on student achievement is understandable and apparent because the student achievement starts and finishes with the excellence, the instructional program, and guidance of the teacher (Korkmaz, 2007). However, the occurrence of effective teaching is only possible when every concerned member including parents/families, officials, community members, and educationalists contribute to the process of uninterrupted progress and student achievement. An effective teacher is familiar with the fact that in order to improve his/her teaching methods, effective professional learning is the only influential pathway (Killion & Hirsh, 2011). One of the eight principles for effective teaching outlined in Literacy for the 21st century: A Balanced Approach is that "effective teachers become partners with parents" (Tompkins, Campbell & Green, 2012). Effective teachers should have an outstanding knowledge of the contents they are teaching, they should be able to explain the contents in extensive details and be able to teach it using different strategies to enhance student's interest and learning. Effective teachers should trust their students and understand how each student thinks and how they all have a different perspective of the world. Effective teachers should have a positive assumption for student success. They should believe that all students are capable to assess higher forms of thinking and learning if they are given appropriate, differentiated instruction and guidance. Teachers should create an environment that supports individual and collaborative learning; enhance positive social interactions and self– motivation. Effective teachers should be proficient in classroom management. They should organize their classroom in a way that students and teachers are able to circulate through the class and that each and every student has some privacy. Effective teachers should organize their classroom with an evident plan to increase students' performance, especially when it comes to wall decorations and posters. • 37. The Importance Of A Learning Environment For An Effective... Definition: One of the most challenging tasks in being an effective teacher is to create a learning environment, which adequately addresses the needs of all students. Effective teachers must be responsive to a diverse range of student backgrounds, including linguistic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic (1.3 AITSL, 2011). In addition, an effective learning environment includes an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students learning needs and incorporates differentiated teaching methods to meet the needs of specific students' abilities (1.4 – 1.5 AITSL, 2011). Therefore, to be an effective teacher aspiring to meet the 'Every Student Succeeding' policy (Education Queensland, 2016), in addition to well–developed content and pedagogical knowledge I will require a broad knowledge, understanding, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and languages (2.4 AITSL, 2011). Cultural diversity is multidimensional and may range from, language to beliefs, personal space to family roles, presence to the value of education, spirituality or concepts of health and healing (Lee, Cosby, & deBaca, 2012). To address such diversity research, on teaching practices, confirms there is a fundamental need for a Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) (Lloyd, Lewthwaite, Osborne, & Boon, 2015). • 41. The Qualities Of An Effective Teacher Essay To answer the question "what are the qualities of an effective teacher?" I will use two things: my experience with phenomenal teachers and my work as a tutor and mentor throughout high school. I have come to believe an effective teacher is like a musician. Teachers transfer knowledge to the minds of students just as musicians transmit tunes to the ears of audiences. Both groups captivate others and inspire them. Each unique interaction requires coordinated messaging. To achieve successful "language" in the classroom, a teacher must control tenor and pulse in order to create an optimal environment for positive learning. The first aspect to effective teaching requires the teacher to have knowledge of the subject matter. However, this is complicated because the possession of raw knowledge and the ability to recite facts are not sturdy enough crutches for an effective teacher. Teachers must also be able to integrate information. An effective teacher must find a balance between complexity and simplicity, creating students who are not broken records of unapplied knowledge nor who simply seek points for accuracy. To achieve this balance, teachers must meticulously articulate their own knowledge so that fresh minds are neither overwhelmed nor bored by it. Similarly, a good musician constructs pleasant timbre; he doesn't simply spit out jumbled arrangements of sound, he creates smooth harmony that leaves the audience craving more. Highly effective teachers work with students until they can't get it wrong" (Jensen, 2016). An effective teacher makes good use of instructional time and inspires students to do well and to know more. Each and every student in the class has to feel comfortable and have the sense of belonging. The classroom has to be conducive to learning and has the proper lighting so that learning can easily take place. Effective teachers are required to put in extra time, work and commitment therefore; characteristics of an effective teacher would include positive expectation, classroom management, and lesson mastery. An effective teacher needs to plan ahead therefore he should incorporate classroom management. Classroom management and management of student conduct are skills that teachers acquire and hone over time and they should be flexible to take control of any situation. Also, teachers are values–oriented mentor and skills such as effective classroom management are central to teaching and require "common sense," consistency, and courage. These skills also require that teachers understand in more than one way the psychological and developmental levels of their students. Introduction It is argued that to achieve educational reform and improve student learning, that the transforming of teachers' practice through effective continuing professional learning is paramount (Hattie, 2003). Dinham (2012) proposes that quality teaching is vital in terms of equity in allowing all students to improve their life chances, the processes of supervision and appraisal are crucial in enabling individuals to undertake self–reflective learning that leads to improved teacher practice and better student outcomes. Jensen (2010) states that "improving the quality of Australia's teachers will create the greatest improvements in student performance, and (provide) consequent economic and social benefits" (p.63). Yet, for many teachers the notion of supervision and appraisal is seen as a threatening process, and effective leadership is required to bring cultural change that allows these processes to be empowering in instigating teacher improvement. This response will seek to explore the usage of the terms supervision and appraisal, deliberate the value of these processes and describe principles of leadership required to implement them in an effective manner. • 57. Essay On Effective Teacher This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro's class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you. Many educators will argue what makes an effective teacher and how that correlates with the function of the classroom. When we talked about how to be an effective teacher we discussed three components, teaching through problem–solving and selecting appropriate tasks, creating appropriate environments and using appropriate interventions. In my field experience, I was able to observe these three effective mathematics teaching components and understand how they apply to the classroom. After leaning about these components, I was then able to use them in my personal experience and see how they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Importance Of An Effective Teacher Educating is as intricate as the learning procedure is for each student. Educating is not just lecturing in front of the class and later on give them tests to assess their knowledge. Being a teacher your style must adapt constantly for the diversity of the children in our classroom as well as their learning styles. To be viable in my work, planning and managing your time is crucial in setting up appropriate lesson plans for the children. I trust that with information I have accumulated throughout the years on the qualities of an effective teacher, I will have the capacity to arrange strategies and imaginatively design strategies for difficulties and issues that I will experience in the classroom environment. The key to success would be to always keep in mind the child 's needs and to understand how society is evolving. The learning process isn't the same in all children but instead it is an intricate procedure where each student learns differently even as they get older. This occurs by the brain and its astounding ability to recall occasions and learn things. Not all children are the same so it is important to figure out and understand how their brain works. The brain is separated into three principle areas to be specific, the forebrain which is in charge of the learning process, the midbrain and hindbrain. The teacher's practices that ensure the higher level of assessment and active participation are most successful. Initially, a teacher needs to decide what is important to learn (Anderson & Krathwohl as cited by Eggen & Kauchak, 2010, p.390) and, in order to do this the teacher must have a good understanding of their student's current knowledge of the topic and their abilities (Whitton et al., 2010). If, as suggested in paragraph four, the teacher has taken the time to get to know each of their students, this knowledge will be to hand when it comes to planning the lesson. Furthermore, as part of the overall lesson plan, an effective teacher will specify the objectives that are to be achieved, that is, what students should have learnt or be able to do with the information taught (Whitton et al., 2010). This ensures that the teacher can design their learning activities effectively, stay on–topic and control the momentum of the lesson – an important factor in effective classroom management according to Kounin (as cited by Hurst & Cooke, p.232). The method by which the content will be delivered also has to be considered when planning a lesson, and variety in delivery is important to offer students different ways in which to learn (Featherston, 2007). I believe it is important for a teacher to assist learning rather than guide it. Children must learn to think critically, to problem solve, and to make decisions on their own. I believe cooperative learning groups are the best way to accomplish this goal. Working with peers allows students more exposure rather than keeping their ideas to themselves. In addition to progressivism, I agree with the ideas of social recontructionism. I think it is important for students to be motivated and with this philosophy children are encourages to study his or her own culture and to emphasize on social issues. Children of today will be the adults of tomorrow, so I think they should understand community problems. I do not agree with putting them in the middle of society's problems, but not leaving them in the dark either. • 73. Evaluation Of An Effective Teacher And Parent Is Positive When a new concept is introduced, it needs to be reconciled with our previous ideas and experience. We may need to change what we believe, but in any case, as educators we need to remain receptive acceptors of new ideas and enhance our own knowledge. To do this, we must ask questions, explore, and assess our shared similar experiences, as we observe each other and discuss teaching methodologies. This type of inquiry helps us improve by strengthening connections among us, the educators. We are encouraged to create stimulating discussions about our professional practices, thereby, building on one another's expertise. To discover solutions and address the needs of our students, we need continuous inquiry and contemplative dialogue. I think it is a brilliant idea to create it as a level system. Both positive and negative sides come with "responsibilities." Ms. Rich is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It takes a very special person to be a teacher, teachers work with the leaders of tomorrow. There are many basic things as well that teachers must do to be highly effective according to the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. First a teacher must be understanding as well as accepting of different cultures and beliefs. Second, a teacher must find different ways to teach their students. Last, a teacher needs to plan and be organized in order to allow their students a positive learning environment. In the paragraphs below, these necessary skills will be discussed in much greater detail. In Standard Two Section D of the Utah Effective Teaching Standard, it states that a highly effective teacher, "bridges school and community cultures by connecting multiple perspectives and encouraging students to learn from each other."
