The Marketing Environment and Consumer Choice Essay
The Marketing Environment and Consumer Choice
Date
Introduction
One of the best ways of improving corporate image in the automobile industry is by ensuring that the industry satisfy the needs
of consumers. These needs would include the utility derived from their product, the safety assurance of the brands and the
overall best performance in the lifetime assessment as for the environmental effects. There is a global concern over the carbon
dioxide emission in the Automobile industry and the consumers are now given a chance to adopt a lifestyle that is caring to the
environment. The electric and Hybrid brands have promised to revolutionize and rival the traditional cars in their economy on
fuel and their friendliness to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Toyota Motor Corporation (2008), Electric and hybrid products benefit customers because they utilize less fuel
and they hurt the environment less due to their less carbon dioxide emission, a point which has been emphasized by Mills
(2008). In their marketing, companies have advertised the electric and hybrid vehicles as of benefit to customers because they
reduce noise, vibration and harshness and more on the satisfaction on the increased social benefit (OECD 2009).
Consequently, marketing of ZEVs has been an easy task for marketers in the public sector. In the marketing mix, pricing has
been a factor; ZEVs are usually more expensive than the ordinary vehicles by virtue of their being environmentally friendly.
These brands include; for instance, the hybrid brand Toyota Prius; which attracted a lot of demand in 2008. According to the
analysis of the premier General motor forum, conducted on the internet in 2008, the GmInsidenews.com reported that 72 per
cent of people were interested in buying hybrid cars while an average hybrid costs $5,000 more than a regular car (Toyota
Motor Corporation 2008). This is evidence enough that the pricing factor does not affect much the demand of ZEVs provided
people are assured of the brand's reliability (Byrne & Polonsky 2001). The other marketing mix factor is the promotion of the
ZEVs, which requires just the attention of the public on the importance of adoption of

Toyota Hilux Is A Light Commercial Utility Vehicle
The Toyota Hilux is a light commercial utility vehicle (ute) manufactured by Japanese company Toyota. The ute has become
known for being reliable, sturdy and being able to withstand harsh terrains and abuse. This has led to the automobile becoming
known as the " unbreakable Hilux ". This has subsequently motivated its latest advertising campaign "the unbreakable driver".
Product analysis:
The Hilux is a four–wheeled drive (4WD) Ute. The vehicle has a v6 turbo engine, double wishbone suspension and a 750kg
towing capacity. (Toyota, 2015)
The Ute Market within Australia represents 19.2% of the total motor vehicle industry (Whytcross, 2014). Toyota occupies a
large majority of the industry, selling 58,000 light utility vehicles in 2012 (Di Leo, 2013). This is illustrated upon in figure 1
which indicates the market share and precent change in volume sold for the previous year.
Despite holding a heavy market share, the Hilux faces direct competition from the Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado, Ford
Ranger , Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT–50, Isuzu D–MAX and the Volkswagen Amarok.
The Hilux has been given the title of "Unbreakable car". This statue came about from the popular British television show Top

ost of us know about Dodge's Charger and Challenger Hellcat engine that puts out about 707–hp. Fiat Chrysler has now
released the third vehicle to be equipped with this monster engine. Named the Jeep Grand Cherokee "Trackhawk".
Supercharged 6.2–liter Hemi V–8 is left just how it is from the Charger and Challenger. This big block of iron comes in at
about 800 pounds, much heavier than the 6.4–liter Hemi in the SRT Grand Cherokee. This hellcat engine adds about 259 more
pounds to the already heavy SRT engine previously in the Grand Cherokee. Fiat Chrysler claims this vehicle to go 0–60 in 3.5
seconds. That's quiet fast for a family suv. Track time consists of a quarter mile being 11.6 seconds at 116mph. You plan to

Process Identification–Toyota Short summary about Toyota Toyota Motor Company was formed in 1933, as a division of
Toyoda Automatic Loom Works by Kiichiro Toyoda. The company began making Type A engines with the support of the
Japanese government. In 1937, the automotive division of Toyoda Automatic Loom became an independent company. The
company's early focus was to make trucks to support the Japanese military during wartimes, however, after WWII; the
company began focusing on passenger vehicles again in 1947. By the middle of the 1950's, the motor company was struggling

Once again in 2009, Toyota was back in the limelight and at the center of a government investigation and consumer driven
outrage over their refusal to admit they had put out defective accelerators in their vehicles. They did try to react somewhat
more proactively as compared to their engine sludge recall by issuing a letter to consumers extending warranties and accepting
to pay for any costs incurred from engine damage, however, they still failed to fully accept blame (Greto, Schotter, &
Teagarden, 2010). More importantly, at this point, Toyotas leaders in Japan were not fundamentally focused on the larger issue
at hand which was their global network of manufacturing plants had become disjointed and their culture of perfect quality had
been lost in many of their products and they were now paying a heavy price because of this critical oversight in their pursuit of
rapid market expansion and radical reductions imposed on managers to find manufacturing cost cutting measures (Greto,
Schotter, & Teagarden, 2010). Importance to Toyota Historically, Toyota had a long history of dedication and loyalty to their
customers and commitment to excellent quality in their products. So, the recalls that began occurring in the 21st century after
decades of relatively perfect ratings were taken very seriously. However, because of the confusing and disjointed management
structures and levels that had been created and the hierarchical set up of Japanese driven decision

About Toyota For more than 50 years, Toyota Motor Corporation has been one of the world's leading manufacturers of motor
vehicles in the United States. It was born a Japanese company in 1935 and came to America in 1957. Now headquartered in
Toyota City, Japan, it employs more than 300 thousand employees globally (Toyota Motor Corporation Company Profile,
2012). In addition Toyota is a global marketing organization. It strategically operates primarily through Japan, Asia, Europe,
and North America; but its vehicles are sold in more than 170 countries and regions across the globe (Toyota Motor

Soon after, under pressure from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Toyota did recall some vehicles.
Nevertheless, only one month later, four more lives were ended as a result of Toyotas quality plunge and failure to respond.
Finally, one month after the death of its eighth victim, Toyota halted production to stop and fix the problem. On top of the oil
sludge recalls, this quality failure resulted in another 8.8 million recalls, a $2 billion direct financial hit to Toyota plus another
$16.8 million in fines, too many innocent lives, a strained relationship with the NHTSA, and further brand deterioration (Greto
et al., 2010). As if this weren't enough, quality problems mounted week after week. Only months later in February 2010, the
NHTSA revealed that it had received claims citing another life threatening defect in the break system for the Toyota Prius.
More than 400 thousand Prius recalls resulted. In April of 2010, customers reported handling issues in the Lexus brand which
resulted in another recall of 9,400 Lexus cars and a Don't Buy: Safety Risk rating from Consumer Reports. Also in April, the
company voluntarily recalled Siennas to address a problem with corrosion on a spare tire cable. Later that month, Toyota
voluntarily recalled 2003 Sequoia SUVs to improve the stability controls. 2010 Tacomas were also recalled for defective front
drive shafts. Once the quality icon, Toyota had hit a really low point; so low that credit

Is technology the basis of long–term national competitive advantage?
Compare differences in the innovation systems of leading economies, industries and firms. (72%)
1. Introduction
Technological developments have shaped our world since the beginning of civilization. In this report, by examining the
important influences of technology and other factors which may also be powerful influences on human history, we will discuss
whether technology is the basis of long–term national competitive advantage. We will base our argument on Porter's and
Chandler's theories, and support it with research evidence. In the following report, we will answer the questions in detail.

3. Comparison of Countries – Japan / USA / UK / Germany / China
In this report, there are five countries (Japan, the USA, the UK, Germany and China) compared at the macro level, which is
about the origin of resource, input amount on Ramp;D, numbers of degree holders in science and engineering, efficiency,
innovative capacity index and relation to policy. The resources for Japan's innovation is mostly from private firms, universities
and public research institutes; for America it is mainly from non–U.S. firms as well as universities (Buiges, 2009). For the UK,
Germany and China, the origin of the national innovation system is the governments of those countries.
To compare the national expenditure for Ramp;D, this report focuses on comparing the input to Ramp;D as the share of the
economic output of those countries. Japan has the highest share of expenditure for Ramp;D which has been more than 3% of
the country's output since 2007 and the percentage is increasing (Abe and Fitzgerald, 1995). The USA has a stable expenditure
share between 2.5 to 3% since 1996 (Dicken, 2003). The expenditure of Germany and the UK have stayed between 1.5 to 2%
since 1996. However, China's input to Ramp;D has risen from less than 1% in 1996 to more than 2% at the end of 2007(Sun
et al, 2007), and keeps growing. Table 1 illustrates

I Was Driving Home From School Essay
I was driving home from school when all the sudden I see a light flashing on the dash of my car. It was the oil light telling me
that it was time to have an oil change, so instead of driving home I went straight to the toyota dealership because at the time I
drove a Toyota Landcruiser. When I got there they handed me a clipboard full of information i needed to fill out. It took me a
full ten minutes to complete and even after all that they still handed me more papers to write my signature on, I thought to
myself, all that for a simple oil change. After finally completing all the paperwork a man took me to the dealerships waiting
room and told me that my oil change should not take long. I was happy to hear that because I wanted to be on my way. I only
expected to be there for 25 to 30 minutes, so after 20 minutes I started looking at the door hoping someone would walk in and
tell me they finished the oil change. Ten minutes later and still nothing. I was getting very impatient and I was starting to work
an appetite. The worst part is they had the food channel on and no remote for me to change the channel with, so i got up and
went to go find a vending machine. Near the car displays they had a popcorn machine so i scooped myself a small bag full.
The popcorn was super salty and stale and what made it even worse was there was no water to be found. So now i 'm sitting
back in the waiting room hungry and thirsty with a bag of uneaten popcorn, and still no word about my car. A

There are a large number of possible configurations of engine, electric machine(s)2, clutches, gearing, and transmissions that
can result in an HEV. These are grouped in four classes in this paper. Based on an examination of the architectures, these
classes are: beltdriven starter/generators on the front of the engine, crank–shaft mounted motor/generators on the rear of the
engine, series/parallel hybrids, and combination hybrids with a mixture of the previous configurations. BELT–DRIVEN
STARTER/GENERATOR The first architecture is the entry level to hybridization. In this architecture the engine stop–start
function is implemented with a starter/generator that is typically belt–driven. The Toyota Crown with the Toyota Hybrid

powertrain features such as clutches and differentials are not included in these diagrams in order to keep them from becoming

investigation was closed the next year declaring that there were no defects. Known in the industry for their quality and
reliability, Toyota would silently recall almost nine million Toyota and Lexus models due to the sudden acceleration problems.
Because of the lingering reaction in dealing with these problems, Toyota's leadership had been highly ridiculed, so now they

(8) Drive out fear so that everyone may work effectively for the company. (9) Break down barriers between departments. (10)
Eliminate slogans, exhortations, and targets asking for zero defects and new levels of productivity. (11) Eliminate quotas.
Substitute leadership and eliminate management by objective and by numbers. (12) Remove barriers that rob people of their
right to pride of workmanship. The responsibility of supervisors must be changed from sheer numbers to quality. (13) Institute
a vigorous program of education and self–improvement. (14) Put everybody in the company to work to accomplish the

Toyota Recall
1. The main reasons of Toyota's recall issues Lately, people most concerned about the recall event which happened on the
world's largest vehicle manufacturers, Toyota. This event affect all over the world including China, USA, Europe. The incident
makes the corporate brand image dropped and also loss the consumer confidence. Why this event did occur? During the
research and analysis, the major cause of Toyota's recall is the quality issues. For example the accelerator pedal problem, many
different types of car were recalled, like RAV4, Corolla and Venza and even some very good quality cars, like Lexus. In this
case, from suppliers to the manufactures all have quality problems. 1.1 Suppliers Because pursue the maximum benefits and

Due to the pedal problems more and more they had to recognize their mistake. And recall the problem cars, what they do now
is almost right actions. The most important thing is to address the problems, so Toyota recalls all problem cars and asks their
suppliers to develop new pedals. But it is still not enough, they should focus on their product quality again instead of extend
the market in the future. And the Toyota also needs to make better handle relationship with customers. They must give an
appropriate solution let customer satisfied and obtain the customer confidence again. There will have a long term impact, so
Toyota must make a plan for this event to let the solution and customer service could be keeping available during next several
years. 6. Major pressures let company choose outsourcing As mentioned before, the business environment now is more and
more globalization and more and more competitive. Company pursues more profit, so they must control their cost. They also
do just–in–time (JIT) to achieve minimum inventory. They want to get more competitive advantages and better quality. And
the technology is developing very quickly, it will cost a lot of money for company to change their technology. All of these
pressures forcing company to use outsourcing. They choose outsourcing because it can help company improve their business

A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move. Conventional vehicles use gasoline
(commonly called petrol) or diesel to power an internal combustion engine. Hybrid cars also use an internal combustion
engine, and can be fuelled like normal cars, but also have one or more high voltage electric motors and battery, and can be

The case of Toyota recall
By Daniel Opoku
Abstract Purpose: the main purpose of this study is to find out about the recalls of Toyota vehicles which lead to the death of
some innocent lives. The recall was due to unintended acceleration. Toyota ultimately recalled millions of its cars for floor mat
issues, brake problems and sticky gas pedals. Methodology: Data was collected online, by the help of some selected search
engines. Information was collected from Toyota's national website as well as other private sites. Findings/results: Most
organization should seek for customers or consumer's satisfaction rather than targeting of making high profit. Arrogance and
choosing to ignore quality warnings when failures begin to happen is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gas pedals was too long and there is a little space between it and the floor mat. In all, there was a poorly designed floor
mat Toyota began a massive recall last year worldwide to fix the problems that were attributed to faulty accelerators, floor
mats getting stuck in gas pedals and brake problems in Prius hybrids. More than 8.5 million Toyota cars and trucks have been
recalled. Drivers have complained of cars careering out of control at 65mph while overtaking, and negotiating roundabouts so
fast that it felt like their car was on two wheels. A mechanical fault, caused by a combination of wear and cold and wet
weather, Toyota believes, means that the accelerator pedal sometimes sticks down. Around 10,000 Toyota owners have so far
contacted a hotline to air concerns.
Toyota was overwhelmed by massive product recalls and damage to its reputation after questions over the safety of its cars
and allegations that the company did not act quickly enough once problems had been identified. The problem commenced
when one duty police officer and his family back in August 2009 after their car, a Toyota Lexus, unexpectedly accelerated,
crashed into another vehicle, tumbled over an embankment and burst into flames lead to the death of the man. Initial company
reports identified that the car may have been fitted with the wrong floor mats, which could have slipped and entrapped the
accelerator pedal. The problems began to increase for Toyota.

Henry Ford : Development Of Engineering And Mechanics
Henry Ford passion and interest in the field of engineering and mechanics lead to creation of Ford motor. First step by Henry
Ford in this regard was the development of automotive mechanic in 1899. In 1899 he founded the Detroit automobile
company. After this first step by him he established Ford motor in 1903. At the time of creation of Ford motor there already
exists 87 different companies with different brands in US. Henry Ford established Ford motors with a new and different vision.
That differentiate vision was the cultural impact of automobiles on the society. He came with this idea and position the brand
in this way to differentiate Ford from existing brands. He positioned the brand by convincing consumers that car is an
affordable item than a luxury one. He entered into market with a strategy of mass production, improved and use of latest
technology, effective supply chain and changing life style. He introduced the motto Help the other fellow which creates a
friendly working environment among the employees and motivates employees to implement the concept of team work
(Ford.com, 2014) Even today Henry Ford's strategies and beliefs are being reflected in the Ford's corporate strategies. Main

company having to make significant investments. The goodwill enjoyed by TM, and the company's reach were expected to
improve Fiat's image in India. Through the alliance, Fiat India also planned to source spare parts for its vehicles from TM. The
Tata Group was a cost effective supplier of auto components and had several manufacturing companies under the TACO

10 million in 2006. Component sourcing was expected to be a major area of cooperation between the two companies.
According to auto analysts, while the alliance was expected to cut manufacturing costs for Fiat India (since the manufacturing

Synopsis
Toyota is the leading motor vehicle manufacturer in the world today. The company is known particularly for manufacturing a
wide range of high quality cars attracting a spirited competition from other globally established competitors like General
Motor (GM), Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Nissan.
In 2009 Toyota encountered a public backlash after the discovery of a potentially catastrophic engineering defect among its
brand of automobiles including its best–selling Corolla and Camry models. This led to a massive and global recall of
approximately 10 million units a year later. The engineering defect caused the models to accelerate out of control and put their

Nonetheless paying the fine means admitting liability. This is likely to have a damaging effect on the reputation of Toyota not
to mention the decline in sales that may result. In addition since the admission of liability implies consumer fraud, Toyota is
apprehensive of the civil lawsuits that might follow running into possibly billions of dollars.
Analysis of alternatives
Toyota can pay the fine and admit liability hoping that this will not affect its reputation, especially with the government that is
part of the stakeholder in the company. However, the company must be prepared for consumer fraud lawsuits that may follow
afterwards. If the company assumed a shareholder model to CSR, it would avoid this option and possibly remain reactive and
defensive fighting all the way to the courts.
Alternatively Toyota can still project a shareholder model to CSR but assume a proactive role in trying to solve the problem.
Apparently this seems to be the approach that Toyota has settled for. However, this method of handling the issue doesn't reduce
the negative impact of knowingly selling a defective automobile because as much as in the public eye Toyota recalled close to
10 million units from the US and Europe, nothing was forthcoming about what caused the problem and how the company

because of the lower Canadian dollar compared to the US Dollar, Canadian plants have shown two areas of high performance,
which are quality and high productivity with the third point being cost competitiveness in the corporate income tax rate.
Additionally flexibility, which is very important to Toyota's Total Production (TPS), does not change volume by changing of
plant layout but increases flexibility in overtime working and general manpower. This flexibility gives employees the ability to
work about 48 hours a week if needed to meet demands of customers, (Smith, 2005).

external factors that affected its weighted benchmarks. In Canada the auto industry is still one of the highest paying fields and

Class I have learned a lot from Business Ethics both professionally and personally. I am a very spiritual person to begin with
so I knew from the time I signed up that I would enjoy this class. One of the things I liked the most was Cases and Ethical
Queries. Through those two exercises I was able to view other people's opinions on some very important issues. It has
definitely helped me to see why our society is struggling with ethical issues. It also makes me ask how did we let it get this
far? I think through this class I have found the answer. I believe it is because we, Pakistanis, have no absolute authority. That
is why some of my fellow students answered some of the questions that pertained to whether a certain issue is right or wrong
as it would depend on the situation or they would never want to be known as the whistle blower. I don't believe that there are
any gray areas. Stealing is wrong no matter the situation or what the person has stolen. Society today tells us that there are
these gray areas, but that is only used to make excuses for our wrongs because let's face it no one wants to be wrong. TOYOTA

Toyota has introduced new technologies including one of the first mass–produced hybrid gas–electric vehicles, of which it
says it has sold 1 million globally (2007–06–07) [16], Advanced Parking Guidance System (automatic parking), a four–speed
electronically controlled automatic with buttons for power and economy shifting, and an eight–speed automatic transmission.
Toyota, and Toyota–produced Lexus and Scion automobiles, consistently rank near the top in certain quality and reliability
surveys, primarily J.D. Power and Consumer Reports.
In 2005, Toyota, combined with its half–owned subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Company, produced 8.54 million vehicles, about
500,000 fewer than the number produced by GM that year. Toyota has a large market share in the United States, but a small
market share in Europe. Its also sells vehicles in Africa and is a market leader in Australia. Due to its Daihatsu subsidiary it has
significant market shares in several fast–growing Southeast Asian countries.

Essay Alternative Fuel
Abstract
The feasibility of adding AFVs (alternative fuel vehicles) to the Lotus Rental Car fleet is examined in the attached research.
The advantages and disadvantages of AFVs were analyzed. In addition, the environmental effect of AFV use on future
generations is also discussed. By comparing the overall information and data of AFVs vs. petroleum–fueled vehicles, and
researching how other fleets have successfully incorporated AFVs, the result is conclusive evidence that the addition of AFVs
to the Lotus fleet is a viable course of action for the future of Lotus.

Using alternative fuels helps reduce our nation's dependence on imported oil and improves air quality. The Energy Policy Act
of 1992 (EPAct) defines alternative fuels as electricity, ethanol, natural gas, propane, methanol, hydrogen, and biodiesel (U.S.
Department of Energy, What is the Energy Policy Act of 1992, para. 2).
One of the main issues that requires examination is to find out more details regarding the many different types of alternative
fuels. With that thought in mind, the next step in our research process was to weigh the pros and cons of the various alternative
fuel types that would be feasible for the Lotus Company to consider.
Since we are dealing with a rental fleet, both the cost of implementing a certain type of alternative–fuel vehicle as well as the
availability of refueling stations must be considered when comparing the viability of the different fuel types. According to the
U.S. Department of Energy, the availability of refueling stations is an issue for vehicles that run on propane and natural gas
(U.S. Department of Energy, Alternative Fuels, para.8). With the number of refueling stations being inadequate for propane
and natural gas, these two alternative fuels can be ruled out as an option for the Lotus fleet because the Lotus customers are
not going to rent vehicles if refueling stations are not readily available. In addition, the problems with using natural gas
vehicles are going to

Power Split Architecture : Power Divided
Power Split Architecture
Power–split hybrid powertrain are ones which consists of power–split device (PSD), an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE),
two Electric Machines (EMs), ESS and VCC. Power–split architectures is a match between series and parallel hybrid to obtain
advantages of both series and parallel hybrid architectures. The produced engine torque is split into two parts, which are
further delivered to the output shaft by the means of an efficient mechanical path and another less efficient electric path. PGS
has two important aspects:
Rotation speed of three ports (sun gear, ring gear and carrier gear). Rotation of engine can be controlled to perform within
peak–efficiency zone
Torques into the three ports of PSG should be in proportion to each other.
So electric machines should have more output torques and power–split hybrid architectures are not useful for micro and mild
hybrid electric vehicle, unlike parallel architectures. Since engine can always perform efficiently, power–split electric vehicles
can reach remarkable fuel efficiency improvement and currently are the most dominant in hybrid vehicle sector .However, this
architecture has its own drawbacks. This type of powertrain also suffers from limitations because of the PSG. For instance, the
ratio of power via the two different paths relies mostly upon the speed of vehicle. So these power–split hybrid vehicles are
mostly efficient only within a particular speed range, or else, the overall efficiency will

In 1905, Mr. H Piper filed a patent for a gasoline engine–electric motor powertrain. According to him, the electric motor would
augment a gasoline engine, allowing a vehicle to accelerate from zero to 25 miles an hour in 10 seconds, much faster than the
gasoline engines of that time. Ironically, when finally Mr.H Piper was granted the patent a few years later, normal engines
were capable of producing the same kind of acceleration.
Due to rapid advancements in the gasoline engine, the popularity of a hybrid car slowly diminished untill again in the early to
mid 1970s, the time of oil crisis. Many companies poured funds to build experimental Hybrid Electric Vehicles. But as the oil
became available again, the surge for HEVs died down immediately.

Toyota has demonstrated good ethics behaviors during their crises. Toyota's four function of management helped the company
to identify the internal and external factors that were affecting their organization. Once these issues were diagnosis, and new
procedures were implemented, Toyota took full responsibility for resolving the problem. The incidences that lead to the recalls
of Toyota manufactured automobiles caused the company's management to pay close attention to their planning. Unlike pinto,
Toyota took full responsibility and fixed the problems. The company's adjustments were focused on ensuring customer safety
and regaining customer trust. Toyota implemented a diversity policy because of a racial outburst as a result of an advertising
campaign. Blacks called the ad racist and thought it was directed at afro–American race. Toyota felt hiring Mr. Jones was a
solution to a diversity problem. * Conclusion. Managers face many challenges in management. When a problem occurs
managers have to generate a plan. The planning process is analyzing the situation by gathering and interpreting information.

as a result of the recall and safety concerns, or something much deeper. I am proposing that the issues affecting Toyota's ability
to rebuild cannot alone be fixed by remedying the safety and manufacturing issues, but it must also work to rebuild the
company's reputation and rebuild stakeholder trust. As outlined by Stewart (2010), Toyota ended up with a full blown crisis on
its hands largely because of the delay and mediocre response from Toyota. These management practices call in to question
Toyota's ethical practices and their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) principles. 2. Discussion: In a world
where loss of reputation can mean the difference between achieving positive revenue, maintaining market position or suffering
substantial losses, it has become increasingly important to not only remain at the top of your field in manufacturing and
innovation but to also demonstrate sound ethical practices. In order to be seen as a valued organisation and most importantly a

Application Of Vehicle Communication Network
1. Introduction
Since the market demands varied over the last 30 years, automotive manufacturers have been focusing on improving users'
driving experience for a long period while developing advanced electronic–based technologies, with respect to requirements
such as convenience, safety, fuel efficiency and etc. However, with more functions achieved, a large quantity of wires
individually connected to different electronical control units(ECUs) needs to be involved in order to transfer signals from
sensors to ECUs, thus making the entire vehicle system significantly complex, heavy, costly and less reliable. This issue was
foreseen by engineers and could not be solved properly until the introduction of vehicle communication network in which
ECUs interchanges information alone the bus with much less wirings required. Within the following sections, in order to
ensure accuracy for final investigation result, a Toyota Prius 2012 model is chosen for researching on how information
required is processed by each control unit after being detected by those related sensors. Based upon investigation mentioned,
discussion on benefits of using in–vehicle network will be further taken with respect to weight and cost savings.

Honda Case
Honda in Europe(
INTRODUCTION
The Honda Motor Company first entered the European market in the early 1960s through the sale of its motorcycles. The
company's motor vehicles were introduced into Europe at a much later date. Honda's motor vehicle sales in Europe have been
relatively poor, especially in the previous five years. Despite its huge success in the North American market, Honda is
struggling to gain a significant foothold in the European market. Honda executives wonder why their global strategy is
sputtering. Is global strategy just a pipedream, or is something wrong with Honda's European strategy?
History of Honda
In 1946 Souichiro Honda founded the Honda Technology Institute. The company started as a motorcycle ... Show more

Honda entered the European market rather late, and its first production facility in the region was built in 1992, at a time when
Honda was still only a minor player in the Japanese market. Prior to 1992, Honda Europe was forced to import its vehicles
from the US, making it impossible for the company to aggressively attack the European market. One of the most important
reasons for the lack of success was that the European market was highly saturated with locally owned car manufacturers.
Companies such as Saab, Volvo, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, DM, Opel, Renault, Peugeot and Fiat have been dominating the
European market for a considerable number of years. In addition, other foreign companies, such as Toyota, Nissan, Ford and
Hyundai make the European market extremely competitive. In 2001, Volkswagen was ranked number one in Europe with
17.6% of the market and Peugeot number 2 with 15.8%. Renault, Ford, Fiat, GM had approximately 10% of the market each,
and Toyota, BMW, and Audi had a market share in the region of 5%. Honda captured only 2.4% of the European market. The
competitive industry map below shows Honda's current position in the European automobile market.
Brand Image in Europe
The Honda brand image in Europe is relatively weak and the product line is narrow compared to the other major players in the
market. The company needs to expand its sales and production to survive in global scale

The Marketing Environment And Consumer Choice Essay

  • 1. The Marketing Environment and Consumer Choice Essay The Marketing Environment and Consumer Choice Date Introduction One of the best ways of improving corporate image in the automobile industry is by ensuring that the industry satisfy the needs of consumers. These needs would include the utility derived from their product, the safety assurance of the brands and the overall best performance in the lifetime assessment as for the environmental effects. There is a global concern over the carbon dioxide emission in the Automobile industry and the consumers are now given a chance to adopt a lifestyle that is caring to the environment. The electric and Hybrid brands have promised to revolutionize and rival the traditional cars in their economy on fuel and their friendliness to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Toyota Motor Corporation (2008), Electric and hybrid products benefit customers because they utilize less fuel and they hurt the environment less due to their less carbon dioxide emission, a point which has been emphasized by Mills (2008). In their marketing, companies have advertised the electric and hybrid vehicles as of benefit to customers because they reduce noise, vibration and harshness and more on the satisfaction on the increased social benefit (OECD 2009). Consequently, marketing of ZEVs has been an easy task for marketers in the public sector. In the marketing mix, pricing has been a factor; ZEVs are usually more expensive than the ordinary vehicles by virtue of their being environmentally friendly. These brands include; for instance, the hybrid brand Toyota Prius; which attracted a lot of demand in 2008. According to the analysis of the premier General motor forum, conducted on the internet in 2008, the GmInsidenews.com reported that 72 per cent of people were interested in buying hybrid cars while an average hybrid costs $5,000 more than a regular car (Toyota Motor Corporation 2008). This is evidence enough that the pricing factor does not affect much the demand of ZEVs provided people are assured of the brand's reliability (Byrne & Polonsky 2001). The other marketing mix factor is the promotion of the ZEVs, which requires just the attention of the public on the importance of adoption of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The resources for Japan's innovation is mostly from private firms, universities and public research institutes; for America it is mainly from non–U.S. firms as well as universities (Buiges, 2009). For the UK, Germany and China, the origin of the national innovation system is the governments of those countries. To compare the national expenditure for Ramp;D, this report focuses on comparing the input to Ramp;D as the share of the economic output of those countries. Japan has the highest share of expenditure for Ramp;D which has been more than 3% of the country's output since 2007 and the percentage is increasing (Abe and Fitzgerald, 1995). The USA has a stable expenditure share between 2.5 to 3% since 1996 (Dicken, 2003). The expenditure of Germany and the UK have stayed between 1.5 to 2% since 1996. It was the oil light telling me that it was time to have an oil change, so instead of driving home I went straight to the toyota dealership because at the time I drove a Toyota Landcruiser. When I got there they handed me a clipboard full of information i needed to fill out. It took me a full ten minutes to complete and even after all that they still handed me more papers to write my signature on, I thought to myself, all that for a simple oil change. After finally completing all the paperwork a man took me to the dealerships waiting room and told me that my oil change should not take long. I was happy to hear that because I wanted to be on my way. I only expected to be there for 25 to 30 minutes, so after 20 minutes I started looking at the door hoping someone would walk in and tell me they finished the oil change. Ten minutes later and still nothing. I was getting very impatient and I was starting to work an appetite. The worst part is they had the food channel on and no remote for me to change the channel with, so i got up and went to go find a vending machine. Near the car displays they had a popcorn machine so i scooped myself a small bag full. The popcorn was super salty and stale and what made it even worse was there was no water to be found. More than 8.5 million Toyota cars and trucks have been recalled. The company is known particularly for manufacturing a wide range of high quality cars attracting a spirited competition from other globally established competitors like General Motor (GM), Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Nissan. In 2009 Toyota encountered a public backlash after the discovery of a potentially catastrophic engineering defect among its brand of automobiles including its best–selling Corolla and Camry models. This led to a massive and global recall of approximately 10 million units a year later. The engineering defect caused the models to accelerate out of control and put their drivers and other ... This is likely to have a damaging effect on the reputation of Toyota not to mention the decline in sales that may result. In addition since the admission of liability implies consumer fraud, Toyota is apprehensive of the civil lawsuits that might follow running into possibly billions of dollars. Analysis of alternatives Toyota can pay the fine and admit liability hoping that this will not affect its reputation, especially with the government that is part of the stakeholder in the company. However, the company must be prepared for consumer fraud lawsuits that may follow afterwards. If the company assumed a shareholder model to CSR, it would avoid this option and possibly remain reactive and defensive fighting all the way to the courts. Alternatively Toyota can still project a shareholder model to CSR but assume a proactive role in trying to solve the problem. Apparently this seems to be the approach that Toyota has settled for. However, this method of handling the issue doesn't reduce the negative impact of knowingly selling a defective automobile because as much as in the public eye Toyota recalled close to 10 million units from the US and Europe, nothing was forthcoming about what caused the problem and how the company ... Through those two exercises I was able to view other people's opinions on some very important issues. It has definitely helped me to see why our society is struggling with ethical issues. It also makes me ask how did we let it get this far? I think through this class I have found the answer. I believe it is because we, Pakistanis, have no absolute authority. That is why some of my fellow students answered some of the questions that pertained to whether a certain issue is right or wrong as it would depend on the situation or they would never want to be known as the whistle blower. Using alternative fuels helps reduce our nation's dependence on imported oil and improves air quality. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) defines alternative fuels as electricity, ethanol, natural gas, propane, methanol, hydrogen, and biodiesel (U.S. Department of Energy, What is the Energy Policy Act of 1992, para. 2). One of the main issues that requires examination is to find out more details regarding the many different types of alternative fuels. With that thought in mind, the next step in our research process was to weigh the pros and cons of the various alternative fuel types that would be feasible for the Lotus Company to consider. Since we are dealing with a rental fleet, both the cost of implementing a certain type of alternative–fuel vehicle as well as the availability of refueling stations must be considered when comparing the viability of the different fuel types. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the availability of refueling stations is an issue for vehicles that run on propane and natural gas (U.S. Department of Energy, Alternative Fuels, para.8). With the number of refueling stations being inadequate for propane and natural gas, these two alternative fuels can be ruled out as an option for the Lotus fleet because the Lotus customers are not going to rent vehicles if refueling stations are not readily available. Power Split Architecture : Power Divided Power Split Architecture Power–split hybrid powertrain are ones which consists of power–split device (PSD), an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), two Electric Machines (EMs), ESS and VCC. Power–split architectures is a match between series and parallel hybrid to obtain advantages of both series and parallel hybrid architectures. The produced engine torque is split into two parts, which are further delivered to the output shaft by the means of an efficient mechanical path and another less efficient electric path. PGS has two important aspects: Rotation speed of three ports (sun gear, ring gear and carrier gear). Rotation of engine can be controlled to perform within peak–efficiency zone Torques into the three ports of PSG should be in proportion to each other. So electric machines should have more output torques and power–split hybrid architectures are not useful for micro and mild hybrid electric vehicle, unlike parallel architectures. Since engine can always perform efficiently, power–split electric vehicles can reach remarkable fuel efficiency improvement and currently are the most dominant in hybrid vehicle sector .However, this architecture has its own drawbacks. This type of powertrain also suffers from limitations because of the PSG. For instance, the ratio of power via the two different paths relies mostly upon the speed of vehicle. So these power–split hybrid vehicles are mostly efficient only within a particular speed range, or else, the overall efficiency will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Toyota 's Ethics And Corporate Social Responsibility The purpose of this report is to examine if the reasoning behind well–known car manufacturer, Toyota's loss of revenue and leading market position is alone as a result of extensive product recalls following a fatal crash of a Lexus ES 350 on August 28th 2009. The journal article, Toyota Crisis: Management Issue? (Yuanyuan Feng 2010) provides an outline of the key factors that triggered the 2009 Toyota crisis, and explores whether the fall in the company's returns by 19% were caused purely as a result of the recall and safety concerns, or something much deeper. I am proposing that the issues affecting Toyota's ability to rebuild cannot alone be fixed by remedying the safety and manufacturing issues, but it must also work to rebuild the company's reputation and rebuild stakeholder trust. As outlined by Stewart (2010), Toyota ended up with a full blown crisis on its hands largely because of the delay and mediocre response from Toyota. These management practices call in to question Toyota's ethical practices and their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) principles. 2. Discussion: In a world where loss of reputation can mean the difference between achieving positive revenue, maintaining market position or suffering substantial losses, it has become increasingly important to not only remain at the top of your field in manufacturing and innovation but to also demonstrate sound ethical practices. Methodology: Data was collected online, by the help of some selected search engines. Information was collected from Toyota's national website as well as other private sites. Findings/results: Most organization should seek for customers or consumer's satisfaction rather than targeting of making high profit. The gas pedals was too long and there is a little space between it and the floor mat. In all, there was a poorly designed floor mat Toyota began a massive recall last year worldwide to fix the problems that were attributed to faulty accelerators, floor mats getting stuck in gas pedals and brake problems in Prius hybrids. More than 8.5 million Toyota cars and trucks have been recalled. Drivers have complained of cars careering out of control at 65mph while overtaking, and negotiating roundabouts so fast that it felt like their car was on two wheels. A mechanical fault, caused by a combination of wear and cold and wet weather, Toyota believes, means that the accelerator pedal sometimes sticks down. Around 10,000 Toyota owners have so far contacted a hotline to air concerns. Toyota was overwhelmed by massive product recalls and damage to its reputation after questions over the safety of its cars and allegations that the company did not act quickly enough once problems had been identified. Prior to 1992, Honda Europe was forced to import its vehicles from the US, making it impossible for the company to aggressively attack the European market. One of the most important reasons for the lack of success was that the European market was highly saturated with locally owned car manufacturers. Companies such as Saab, Volvo, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, DM, Opel, Renault, Peugeot and Fiat have been dominating the European market for a considerable number of years. In addition, other foreign companies, such as Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Hyundai make the European market extremely competitive. In 2001, Volkswagen was ranked number one in Europe with 17.6% of the market and Peugeot number 2 with 15.8%. Renault, Ford, Fiat, GM had approximately 10% of the market each, and Toyota, BMW, and Audi had a market share in the region of 5%. Honda captured only 2.4% of the European market. The competitive industry map below shows Honda's current position in the European automobile market. Brand Image in Europe The Honda brand image in Europe is relatively weak and the product line is narrow compared to the other major players in the market. The company needs to expand its sales and production to survive in global scale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
