2. MY TARGET AUDIENCE
• The target audience/demographic for my media production is ages 16 – 20, including both
makes and females. This age group are commonly in the end of their higher education or
starting university.
• My media production does not only apply to European people as it is appeals to people
from other countries due to the themes presented within it.
• My target audience are people interested in niche and independent media texts. They will
be interested in reading, watching and listening to the news so will know all about the
migrant crisis being referenced throughout the production. They will also be interested in
listening to acoustic/alternative music.
3. MUSIC VIDEO
• I gave questionnaires to my peers (people within my target audience) these people
watched my video and rated accordingly. (an example of the sheet I gave them is shown
below) the task I set them was to answer all the questions relating to my music video as
truthfully as possible. This however was not a true test of my target audience as all the
participants are aged between 17 and 18 and were all British, where as my target
audience is wider than this.
• The questionnaires included questions about camerawork, mise-en-scene, length, editing
and the overall rank of the video.
• Overall the outcome of the feedback was positive however there was 1 anomaly who
didn’t like it as much as the others.
4. QUESTIONNAIRES
• The first questions on the questionnaire are to confirm the age and gender of the
participant to ensure they are within the target audience.
• the feedback showed that both males and females aged between 17 and 18 were
interested in our video and found it engaging.
• The four highest scores were from 2 males and 2 females, this shows that both genders
liked the video the same meaning it relates equally to both genders which was my overall
aim.
• All people asked stated that their favorite section of the video was the composition this
means our composition was appropriate for this target audience. Also no one stated that
they found any part of our music video offensive.
5. AUDIENCE
• The participants of our music video feedback were all residents of Britain, they enjoyed
the music video. This shows me the production is appropriate for western audiences. The
conflict in the east that has been shown in the media of the western countries heavily
affects them due to the fact the refugees fleeing the country are coming to Europe to seek
refuge, this means it is a very well known and important issue in Britain making it a
popular, interesting and important theme for our music video and appeals to our target
audience.
• The music of Caleb J. Rowan reflected similar feelings and emotions to these themes.
• Although we did not include any elements of Brutishness, such as British stereotypes
(Laswell) our product still appeals to the British population because they can identify with
it through the current crisis.
6. PROMOTION OF ARTIST
• All of the participants said that the music successfully promotes the artist and reflects the
style of the song.
• This shows me that I chose an appropriate track and artist for this particular theme and
story. The melody of the song reinforces the melancholy of the music video. This also
means that the production of the video reinforces the song which means the audience will
be interested in the artist as well as the video, this means the video sucessfully promotes
the artist/band.
7. PRINT PRODUCTION
• The general impression of my print productions was positive. I received lots of possitive
oral feedback from my target audience. Some of the comments I got included “the theme
of the Print Production reflects the themes and emotions displayed in your music video.”
• I also had feedback from people that did not come into my target audience, this feedback
was also positive, which shows my target audience are not the only people my
productions will appeal to it is just the main demographic.
• My peer feedback also told me that my print production successfully promotes the artist, 5
out of the 8 I got verbal feedback from said they wouldn’t be surprised to see similar
artwork for a professional artist or band.
• All people I showed the print productions too said it made them interested in the artist and
made them want to research them/ listen to their music or go to one of their shows, this
means I successfully promoted the artist through my print production.
8. PRINT PRODUCTION FEEDBACK
• One of the features of my print production that stood out to my target audience was the
black and white, my target audience stated this “relates well with the music video and
emotions expressed through the track.” many of the people I showed my production to
liked the feature of a ‘splash’ of colour, they said that the pink/red of the flower gave
feelings of warmth and love, this is why I decided the change the font colour in my
production to a sample of this colour as I knew it appealed to my target audience.
• My feedback stated that they liked the slight change in theme in panels 2&3 (middle) of
my Digipak, they liked this because it expressed the realism of being a musician. It
represents the energy and action of live music through the use of tilt shift and focus pull.
• My audience also liked the common use of the font between my print production and my
music video. This shows I used the right font to appeal to my audience. My feedback also
showed me that my print production successfully promotes my artist.
9. OVERALL AUDIENCE IMPRESSION
• The overall aims of the video and print production were to; promote the artist/band,
express views and to raise awareness bout the refugee crisis and the conflict in their
countries and also the entertain the audience to keep them engaged whilst listening to the
track through the use of cinematography, editing, composition and mise-en-scene.
• My audience understood the political aspects and thought this was a very important view
to express and a good/successful way of doing so.
• The main aim of the Advert in the print production is to catch peoples eye and make them
interested in what the product (the music) is. The aim of the Digipak is to give the
audience the feeling they have purchased a high end product and to be happy with this
purchase. It will also make them want to tell people about it expanding the exposure of
the album and artist.
10. EVALUATION
• Although using questionnaires is a common and effective way of receiving audience
feedback, which is very important, they are not without their negatives.
• Using questionnaires means we only get feedback for the things we ask, there is very little
in the way of personal opinion, or an opportunity to express their individual view on it.
• Problems with oral feedback is that there Is no record of this, meaning there is no proof
which is fine when making improvements but when it comes to looking at what groups
like/dislike your video and print production it is very difficult to remember and then
visualise the results.
• this is why I used both, I used the oral feedback and teachers comments to make
improvements and I used the questionnaires to see and show a correlation in the primary
target audience and demographic.
