George has always been passionate about film and media production from a young age. He started his own YouTube channel and completed work experience at a local radio station, deciding he preferred working behind the camera. At college, George studied Creative Media and produced several video and print projects, including a short horror film. He now has over 1000 Instagram followers for his alternative film posters and enjoys uploading video reviews and tutorials to his YouTube channel. George feels college has helped him mature and develop a strong drive for knowledge, and he is excited to further his studies and pursue a career in the film industry at University level.

At the age of fifteenIwasaffordedthe opportunitytoundertake some workexperience atMinsterFM,
York’slocal radio station basedinOsbaldwick.Workinginthe studiowithall the professional equipment
interestedme immensely. Ilearnedlotsof new skillsinashortspace of time andevenpresentedanews
bulletin.Idecided fromthere thatI wouldbe comfortable behindthe cameraasopposedtoin frontof it
and that I wantedtofollowacareerin production.
FollowingmyGCSE’sIappliedtoYork College tostudyLevel 2Creative Mediaandwasfortunate togain a
place on the course.I had neverbeenparticularly academicatschool, butIthoroughlyenjoyedevery
practical project, theory lessonandexperience. Fromlearninghow touse Photoshopandmakingfilm
posters,tofilmingandeditingshortvideos.My Final MediaProjectatthe endof the course was a short
horror filmcalled“Kill”whichIwrote,scripted,cast,filmedandedited.Iwasawardeda distinctionfor
Level 2. Thiswasthe firsttime I had achievedsucha successandit made me signup for Level 3 Creative
Media.
Duringmy firstand secondyearsIhave done many projectsrangingfrom videotoprintbasedwork.The
videogamesprojectshave beensomethingthathasboostedmyconfidence.IneverimaginedthatIwould
be able to make a videogame and learningthe simple stepstomakingone.Ihave alsoenjoyedthe print
projectsaspectespeciallythe psychologyusedsuchas the wheel colourand designelements togetthe
audience attention.
Outside collegemyhobbiesare alsorelatedtomystudiesandlove of mediaproduction. Ienjoymaking
alternative filmpostersandthe skillsIhave beenlearningthroughcollegehave givenme the confidence to
uploadmywork to varioussocial mediaaccountsthatI have created,andto understandandaccept
critique froma wideraudience of people aroundthe world. Happily, the feedbackItendto gethas been
goodand I currentlyhave over1000 followersonmyrelatively new Instaaccount(mediaenthusiast02).The
postersare,inthe main,remakesof JamesBondfilmsbuttheydive intoothergenres aswell suchas
horror and comedy,andmore recentlyIhave beenundertaking personal commissions forpeople.
I have a YouTube channel towhichI uploadreviews,andalsoexamplesof how touse editingsoftwares
such as PremierPro,apackage whichIthinkhas vastly improvedoverthe pastyear,throughscreen
recording. The type of contentthat I uploadtothischannel consistsof filmreviews,anycollegevideo-
basedworkand the analysisintodirectorsthatI considertohave hadan impactto the filmindustry. The
channel helpsme gain experience in videoediting,butalsogivesme confidenceinbeingable tonarrate my
feelingsandthoughts aboutwhat’simportantwhenitcomestofilmmaking.
On a personal level,throughmyattendance atcollege Ifeel thatIhave developedinmaturityand have a
strongthirst forknowledge. Iconsidermyself tobe ambitiousandagood communicator,andmy main
attribute tobe determination.Ialwaysfeel motivated torise tothe test and determinedtogetthe job
done,andto get a 100% percentsuccessrate. I have a dream to overcome anyobstaclesthatfacesme.
I considerthe opportunity tobe able to studyat University tobe of profoundimportance inmy
developmentandmyfuture aspirations. HavingattendedopendayslastOctoberand experiencedthe
facilities onofferatuniversitylevel,Iamexcitedtocarry onstudying a subjectIlove andto pursue a career
