- 1. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 1: Propeller Area CALL OUT: 'CLEAR' Ensure the area around the airplane is clear. Image yourself calling out the window.
- 2. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 2: Throttle OPEN: Push open throttle ¼ inch.
- 3. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 3: Mixture FULL RICH: Push mixture knob all the way in to full rich. Consider mapping a joystick control in X-Plane to control the mixture.
- 4. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 4: Fuel Pump ON: Toggle the fuel pump switch on.
- 5. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 5: Ignition Switch IGN: Click the Ignition switch to the IGN position until the engine begins running. You should hear the engine and notice the RPM needle move.
- 6. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 6: Throttle Idle CLOSE: Pull the throttle to the idle position.
- 7. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 7: Alternator On ON: Toggle Alternator switch to ON position.
- 8. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 8: Oil Pressure CHECK: Oil temperature/pressure gauge should be in the normal range (green arcs) within 30 seconds.

- 10. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 9: Engine Instruments VERIFY: Attitude Indicator should be right-side up (blue sky on top) and miniature wings should be aligned with the horizon.
- 11. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 9: Engine Instruments SET: Adjust the Altimeter to match the field elevation. Field elevation can be found on the airport diagram. KACY field elevation is 75 feet. Turn the knob that connects to the Kollsman window to adjust.
- 12. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 9: Engine Instruments VERIFY: The airplane in the Turn Coordinator should be level and the ball should be centered in the inclinometer.
- 13. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 9: Engine Instruments SET: The Heading Indicator to match the Magnetic Compass .
- 14. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 9: Engine Instruments VERIFY: : The Vertical Speed Indicator reads zero
- 15. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 10: Fuel Pump Off OFF: Toggle the fuel pump switch to off position.
- 16. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 11: Annunciator Panel Test TEST: Press the annunciator test button. All lights on the panel should illuminate.
- 17. Ground Operations: Engine Start Step 11: Annunciator Panel Test TEST: Release the annunciator test button. All lights on the panel should turn off except the BRAKES.
