3. Double Page spread analysis
I really like this double page spread magazine as it is unconventional
as it is quite chilled out and feels almost a gentle spread. For example
the main image is on a whole page, which is half of the double page
spread, this is unusual as normally it would cover parts of a page and
have text surrounding the main image. I like the masthead of the
page spread as the font is bold and simple to read. It also is
surrounded by multiple circles full of bright colours. The text is nicely
laid out and is underplayed by the circles which is another reason
why I like the double page spread.
The double page spread is a great example as the text is conventionally
placed in a bold impactful font which can easily attract the reader. The
main image is the band walking down a street in great lighting from a
lower down shot from the road. They may have done this to make the
band look bigger as this is similar to the font because it is also very big. I
also like how they have added a separate image to the side which is a
really interesting aspect of the spread as this is rarely done in a generic
double page spread. This is why is why I like this double page spread
4. What I am basing my page spread off
This is the double page spread I am basing my magazine off. I like how
the main image has a background blurred out this can help make the
image stand out a lot more. It is a simplistic design with the main image
being pushed to the side fitted over a full page. They may have done this
to create more room for the text on the next page and to not
overcrowded the first page of the double page spread. The masthead is
in two separate colours, they include red and black this is because the kit
that Cairney is wearing it includes black and red, the white is around the
masthead making the primary colours for his magazine red white and
black. Which are your classic colours within a magazine. The text within
the double page spread includes 3 coulombs which is quite a hefty
amount of information and writing. Within the second and third
coulomb there is a pulled quote form Tom as it is a interview. This is
similar to how the sponsor on the kit he is wearing as it is a split line in
the middle of the kit and page, this is a similarity which is made
interesting for the reader to read it. There is a gap between all of the text
and the image, this is a conventional in a classic double page spread. I
like masthead as it is all capital letters and in a bold font trying to attract
the reader, it is in red and black and “TOM CAIRNEY” and “THE CAPTIN”
is directly under each other with the exact same number of letters in
each word.
8. Teenage audience
This double page spread’s target audience is teenagers
aged 14-17. The reason it is for a older teenage is
because it has a more mature style with simplistic
additions to make it more sophisticated which is more
appealing to a older audience as, when teenagers get
older they start to take football more serious. So when a
older teenage audience reads about a young average boy
from England making it pro and doing amazing things
around the world, they would want to read about it as its
similar to their dream. I think its less appealing to a
younger audience as it is too full of words and doesn’t
have bright colours (apart form the main image) Another
aspect within the main image that Joe is not on the
football pitch and is expressing his style. This is done all
the time with footballers such as Raheem Sterling, Serge
Gnabry, Hector belerin and loads more. This is appealing
as it makes the audience as it makes them feel more
connected to the footballer as they are in a more
relatable location and are wearing similar cloths to the
target audience. This is important as it important to
relate to the target audience to keep them engaged.
9. The article
Joe Callow the Ajax superstar is a rising young footballer. Already taking the armband from Tadic, the prolific midfielder
made his professional debut for the club at age 16. He is one of the youngest stars to play the game, and take the armband
along with him. The Englishman is only the second ever English player to play for the Dutch club, making his first appearance
in 2019. He is sure to be one of the biggest and the best. The attacking midfielder scored on his start for the club in a 4-0
victory against the clubs rivals Feyenoord, picking up a hat-trick of assists too. It has been 3 years since then, now 19 years
old Joe has made 100+ appearances for the club, scored just shy of 80 goals and over 90 assists. Already a club hero he has
made his name globally. We recently interviewed the star, and proved to be an engaging interviewee and was very honest
about himself and the game he loves. Here is what he had to tell us... You are currently one of the biggest prospects in the
world right now, when you first got called up to make the starting line-up how did you feel? “Amazing, I worked so hard to
get to this point leaving my friends and home life behind was tough, training for hours with the youth team and playing for
the under-23s, I was questioning whether to quit or not. But my dad is in Amsterdam with me and he always knew I would
get to the first team. He kept that drive in me and in the end I suppose he was right!” You are the youngest player in history
to wear armband during a champions and league game at only 16, was it a challenge? “No, because I think I am very
passionate about the game and worked hard to get to this situation, I am determined and vocal on the pitch and the
manager says I read the game well. When I heard I was going to start, I was ecstatic and then to be the captain too! I was I
was over the moon” Finally, in the media a lot of massive Clubs have been keeping your name close including the likes of
Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and your boyhood club Wolverhampton wanders! Would you ever leave Ajax
for one of these big teams? “I am still very young, only 19 and believe I have at least another 15 years in the top flight. I am
fully devoted to this team and I have three more years left on my contract. I love Wolves and they will always have a special
place in my heart, maybe one day in the future I’ll join them. But, I need to focus on the now and hope to help the team to
win the league for a fifth consecutive year in a row and reach the finals in the Champions League!!”
11. Photoshop tools I used
I used a range of different tools to help me create my double page
spread.
For example I used the hue and saturation tool very lightly to brighten
up the image a bit more. I did this because then the image is less grey
and boring and is more vibrant and added more colour or excitement
so its more appealing to a teenage audience.
I also used the brightness and contrast tool to lower the brightness
this was because when I first selected the image it was too bright and
it was hard to the main images face fully, so I added in some contrast
and lowered the brightness and it helped the image to stand out
easily.
I used a massive range of fonts this is so that the double page doesn't
look strict and bland and it can be more free and easier to read. The
article is ‘Nirmala UI’ which is a nice simple and easy to read font. I
used it so I could also make the questions within the interview of the
article bold so then the audience can tell where the questions and
answers are. The main masthead is in a traditional font ‘Ariel’ and is in
bold capitals to stand out so the audience knows where the masthead
is and can clearly see and work out what its about.
14. Development in skills
I think my skills have definitely
developed as I learnt how to add
in the sky which was a difficult
task and change the contrast of
the image. I added in contrast
and light effects to make it stand
out more ands also used the
clone stamp tool to get rid of any
rubbish which was a
improvement in my skills too.
Overall I think I improved my skill
set and the final product turned
out good
15. Clone Stamp Tool
I used clone stamp tool to
get rid of any rubbish in
the background and on
the floor I also patched
the wall up where some
of the paint had dried up
and fallen off. This helped
the image look less
amateur and more
professional as it gave it a
cleaner look. I also
believe getting rid of the
rubbish is of course a
nicer thing to look at.
Because the target
audience don’t want to
be looking at rubbish and
rubble around the main
image.
16. WWW & EBI
• WWW- The main image and the
text was good and my most
strongest part, I think that adding in
the blue sky mad a real difference
to the photo as it made it look more
light and appealing to teenagers.
• EBI- I think I could improve on
potentially blurring the sides as that
is then more similar to the double
page spread I based it off, but I
think it is quite hard as it might not
look as realistic, but if I could
improve on something it would be
that.
