4. Both mood boards analysis
Teenagers mood board-
For the teenage mood board I added lots of things that all teens of all ethnicities,
ages and genders enjoy doing. I added music as a main one as a lot of teenagers
like to play and listen to music, as musicians biggest audiences are usually
teenagers (obviously based on the musician). Teenagers like to go to concerts to
and party and have fun with friends. I also added sport, such as football,
basketball, crickets and rugby as teenagers is one of sports biggest audience. The
main part is the social media as social media websites biggest and best selling
target audience is teenagers, this is because they were born into the world of
technology so they enjoy social media as it is their main source of entertainment.
Football Mood Board-
In the football magazine mood board there are lots of the same brands
throughout for example the main football magazine for teenagers is four four
two. They are the main football magazine brand that everyone knows and loves. I
also personally like their magazines because of the way that they set out the
magazine. The fonts, colours, players, the positioning of the players, the photo
range- they usually use a mid shot I like this as we can see their football shirt and
most of the players upper body. And the face too which helps the audience
understand who the magazine is about without even reading a single word. I also
like how the background is a theme throughout the whole cover- If the clubs
colours or kit is a certain colour, the background will be too. For example the
three magazines to the side have the same background as the kits, players and
badge. This makes the main image shot fit in better and less sharp on the eye. It
also makes it more formal and looks like its for older teenagers. Whereas the
match of the day magazine is a bit over the top and is jammed of images and
crazy loud extreme fonts and bright colours. This would attract a younger teenage
audience as it is full of prizes and quizzes for young teens.
5. Fonts for masthead
FOUR FOUR TWO – (Bahnschrift SemiBold Condensed) I like how it stands out and it could be good
for a subheading as it is quick and easy to read
FOUR FOUR TWO – (impact) This is a massive font and is very bold. As the font is called “IMPACT” I think it would be
perfect for a masthead.
FOUR FOUR TWO – (Bookman Old Style) I like the way that it is quite fashionable and old
fashioned looking which could be good for a splash as it could be a theme within the magazine of the “old fashioned era”
FOUR FOUR TWO – (Ink Free) I like this font as it is very unusual and interesting. It could work as a part of the
masthead as it could attract readers as it looks very similar to handwriting.
FOUR FOUR TWO – (Castellar) I like this font as it is able top stand out quite a attractive font. This
could be good for a masthead.
6. Inspirational Poster
I have changed the fonts and images round a
few times for example I ended the word
‘SUCCESS - avoiding’ In the same font so that it
reverts back to the original text. I also changed
the font of the word ‘To’ to a less comic and
blocky style to a more easy on the eye font
called ‘Segoe Print’. I changed the image
because it was to bright and did not work and
the colours didn’t match. So I changed the
image to a more simple image, and the
colours fit the mountain range and
compliment the image well. I also made the
words all the same colour coordination
‘Avoiding’ and ‘Success’ ‘Avoid’ and ‘Failure’
and ‘To’ and ‘Is’ This can make it more
appealing to a audience and looks a lot better
now. I added in curves too to make the image
darker and to ease the brightness of the sun
seeping through the mountain.

7. I really like this double page spread magazine as it is
unconventional as it is quite chilled out and feels almost a
gentle spread. For example the main image is on a whole page,
which is half of the double page spread, this is unusual as
normally it would cover parts of a page and have text
surrounding the main image. I like the masthead of the page
spread as the font is bold and simple to read. It also is
surrounded by multiple circles full of bright colours. The text is
nicely laid out and is underlayed by the circles which is another
reason why I like the double page spread.
I love this page spreads as the main is very interesting, it is
very abstract with mark ronson smashing a trumpet. The
masthead is conventional as it is working its way across the
top of the magazine in bold serif font. It is easy for the reader
to read and perfect for this type of double page spread. The
text is interesting as throughout the text it has different fonts
across the whole text, this is why I like this double page
spread.
I picked this magazine as its masthead is very loud and the
most interesting part of the page spread. The red capital
letter font is purposely done to stand out. Also something I
like about the masthead is that the A’s are missing the middle
line and this would pop out to the audience. The main image
is behind all the text on the page, also the sublines are put in
white boxes in twos placed along the page spread. This is
appealing as it looks interesting and new.
The double page spread is a great example
as the text is conventionally placed in a bold
impactful font which can easily attract the
reader. The main image is the band walking
down a street in great lighting from a lower
down shot from the road. They may have
done this to make the band look bigger as
this is similar to the font because it is also
very big. I also like how they have added a
separate image to the side which is a really
interesting aspect of the spread as this is
rarely done in a generic double page spread.
This is why is why I like this double page
spread
8. Colour Palette
I like this colour palette as it is the most
common colours for a magazine is red, white
and black. These are the main colours used in
the media on magazines. This is because they
are easy on the eye and pop out to the target
audience for the magazine.
This colour palette is mainly used in sub-genres
such as horror or action/thriller magazines
because they involve dark red and dangerous
colours. For example the red is to represent
blood and danger whereas the grey and black is
for the dark or night as it could be represented
as a mysterious setting.
The green and more vibrant
colour palette would be
mainly used in nature or
garden magazines for a older
audience who enjoys
gardening. These colours
would be representing the
plants and grass as these are
parts of nature and bright
happy vibrant greens.
This colour palette is very bright and in your
face, this is because it would mainly be used
for children's magazines with big block letter
writing and text for the masthead full of these
colours. Including the background.
This colour palette is more of
a women's fashion, model or
makeup magazine for
example Vogue or teen vogue
is a good example of what
these colours would be found.
Although as we are moving
into the future it is being
featured in more men's
fashion magazines too now.

11. Dave
This Dave Magazine cover was inspired by a Fantastic Man cover, this appealed
to me as I like the simplicity of it as it’s a very unconventional cover. This is
because there is no cover lines and all the extra magazine information is placed
at the bottom. The bottom text is a quick summary of Dave and what he has
achieved and done at such a young age, it also ends with a sentence that
includes direct address and informal language, this is appealing to teenagers as
its like they are just talking normally to their friends. As they include the word
“You” which is also use for direct address purposes. The format of the
magazine is also very unusual and uncommon as the main image is at a close
shot, and cut off the bottom half of the body, this is so it can leave space for
the text summary. There is a grey box surrounding Dave with nothing but him
and the text that says “DAVE” I have done this so that it keeps that simplistic
theme throughout the whole cover. It also has hints of formulary to the cover
as Dave is dressed quite smart in the image. I chose this image to make the
cover look more clean cut and satisfying to look at, as it blends in well with the
rest of the cover. The colours I used are ones that would imply a formal style
that attracts teenage audiences as they rarely see Dave in a suit, so they know
that the interview within the magazine will be very good and in depth. The
colours are a cream and only consist of three main colours all over the cover-
Black/Navy, Dark lilac and grey. These colours are sophisticated and modern,
but they would not be linked to rappers as the idea of sophisticated and smart
contrast highly with a rapper. This is one of the reasons why it is a
unconventional cover.

12. Flat plan – Thumbnail sketch
The masthead-
My masthead is probably the most
conventional part of the magazine, as it is in
the common place for a title of general
covers. It is at the top of the cover so the
audience knows who's brand it is and what
it is etc.
The image is the only photo on the page which forces
the audience to realise that the magazine is all about
Dave. He is in a formal uniform to make the whole
magazine look more modern and clean. Dave is
looking directly in to the camera to attract the reader
straight away.
There is a big unconventional box I have added surrounding
the main image, I did this because it is different to common
magazines, and to makes Dave (the main image) stand out
more, because of the grey box he pops. This is similar to the
‘THE FANTASTIC MAN’ magazine as this is what I used for my
main inspiration for the cover.
The text-
The text is a short summary of what Dave has accomplished so
far, it also uses words such as ‘you’ which is direct address and
will appeal to the audience. The text is also very unconventional
as it is the only main text on the page, there is no cover lines or
splash on the page and it makes the cover look more
sophisticated and smart.

14. Logo
Flat plan
I used a very generic font and colour. Although
this is very conventional I think it fits in with the
logo the best. The font I used is called Calibri and
the font was at 150 as my logo was quite big on
the software I used- Illustrator.
There are two massive light blue crosses lining
throughout the logo. One is placed behind the
whole logo as a back support of the image and
to add depth, the second cross is the main line
crossing the whole image, it has the name
crossing it to showing it is the main part of the
logo
The star in the middle is the leading and
most important part to the logo. This is
because it has a great blending colour and
adds a extra layer and interest to the logo
because otherwise it is too blocky and ugly
to look at.
A green box surrounding the
image to make the star look more
supported and adds a extra colour
to use in the box as it
surroundings and holds the whole
logo together
