En esta presentación explicaremos tipos de
costumbres, el cementerio inglés de Málaga
con sus plantas y biografías de personas
enterradas allí, entre otras cosas. También
hablaremos del cementerio de PèreLachaise
en París y otras personas sepultadas allí.
2. English: Types of funerals
Christians: believed that people who comitede major crimes or sins want straight to
hell when they died (where died), were they burned forever. Minor sinners went
to purgatory, where the bad sufer to their sins before going to heaver.
Catholics: in many countries make special food for the dead in the form of skuls,
bones, skeleton or ever coffins. This food is the left on the grave or members of
the family have a picnic near the grave and sing and talk about their dead
relatives.
Australia: aborigines used to cup up their dead relatives into pieces and carry them
round in bags for eating later. The idea was that the sprint and wisdom of the
dead relative would enter the body of the living.
In Russa: they don't have tradiction, the children, don't like go to the church, and the
preferes disguised.
In many part of África: ancestors are considered to be important menbers of the
some way as living relatives.
Japan: at the festival of oben 27 lanters are lit to guide the of the ancestorsor their
anual visit to the family home.
3. Hystory of the english cemetery of
Malaga.
The english cemetery is located in Pries Avenue. The English Cemetery was built
in 1831. It's Christiannot catholic cemetery. Before they built the cemetery, the
notcatholic people were buried in the beach and the bodies were brought by the
sea.
The english cemetery was built by the British Consul, Willian Mark. He was
designated consul in 1824, then he demanded a small terrain to build non
catholic people. Finally, the king allowed building this cemetery in 1829. The
english cemetery was the first non catholic in Spain.
The first person buried in this cemetery was Mr.George Stephens, he dead in 1831.
During the next years the cemetery was expanded and inproved by the William
Mark in 1839. He built gatehouse for the guard and his family, inside the
cemetery there was a church. The in 1856 William Penrose Marks built other
building next to the entrance for the guard. During 175 years the cemetery was
administered by the secessives british consul and by the British help. This help
was cut in 1904. In 2006 the cemetery passed into the hands of the Fundation
English cemetery of Malaga.Now it has been named ”world heritage”.

5. Our visit to the English Cemetery of
Malaga.
At the entrance: They are different nationalities: Spanish, French, English, Canadian,
American... This cemetery opens from Tuesday to Saturday (9:30 to 14:00). The
cemetery is maintained financially by the donation from the visitors. The church
name' Saint George is an Anglican Church.
At the beginning on the right: Here it's buried the general consul Edwar Norton. In the
tombstone of Dr Gerald Maurice Lewson is written this:
”Here lies a man forever kind, of gentle, lovng, nble mind. And throught out tears we
all can see. How God can live in you and me”
William Mark founded the cemetery. In this cemetery there are four military are
buried.
In the middle on the right: ”The amigo de Espeña” is Gerald Brenan, He borned in
Malta, april 1894 and died in Alahurín El Grande in 1987. In the tombstone of
Gerald Brenan's wife this quotation is found: ”fear no more the heat O' the sun.
Her name's Gammel Woolsey.
In middle on the left: A Canadian maried couple are buried together are Ethel Mabel
Miles and George Gordon Miles. The St. Augustine's quotation is written on
Alfred Cecil Gee's tombstone which says ”thou hast greated os for my self and our
heart canot be quieted til it many find repose in peace.” Thomas William is a

7. BIOGRAPHIES OF A FAMOUS WHO IS BURIED IN
THE CEMETERY
Jorge Guillén: was a spanish poet and a literary critic. He was born in Valladolid,
on 18th of january, in 1893 and died in Malaga, on 6 th of february 1984. When
he was staying in a travel of Europe, he met Germaine Cahen, his first wife,
years later the separated and he married with Irene MochiSismondi. They went
to live to Malaga and in 1976 he received the Cervantes Prize and finally, in
1977 he won the International Prize Alfonso Reyes.
Edward Fitzgerald Brenan: was a writer and a historian. He was born in Sliema,
Malta 7th on april 1894 and died in Alhaurín El Grande Malaga 19th on january
1987. He travelled a lot, he visited a lot of cities for all the world and he lived in
many places with NicholsonPrice, his wife. Later they separated, and he
married with Gamel Woolsey. During all this time, he wrote a lot of books
about life and travels, when he died, he donated his body to the scienc and he
was burnt.
Elisabeth Gammel Woolsey: was a poet and American novelist. She was born on
the Breeze Hill plantation in Aiken, South Carolina in 1895 and died in Malaga
in 1986. She left home for New York where she published her first poem.
Next Year she married with Rex Hunter, writer and journalist from New
Zeland, but they separated after four years. In 1930 she married the historian
and writer Gerald Brenan. She died in 1968 of mammary glan cancer, she is
buried with her husband, together.
8. LE CIMETIÈRE DU PÈRE
LACHAISE
Le cimetière du PèreLachaise est le plus grand cimetière de Paris. Situé dans le
20º arrondissement de la ville. Il a été construit par l'architecte nèo.classique
Alexandre Thèodone Brongniart en 1803. Le cimitière de PèreLachaise a été
agrandi cinq fois:en 1824 1829, 1832 – 1842 et 1850.
On accueille chaque année deux millions de visiteurs, ce qui en fait le cimetiére
le plus visité au monde. Dnas le cimètiere il y a 7000 tombes.
Beaucoup de personnalitès célebrees sont enterrées comme Pierre Dervaux, il a
été un chef d'orchestre français, également, compositeur, parolier, journaliste,
auteur, dramatique et conservateur de musée, il est mort en 1941, Frèdèric
Chopin aussi est enterrè il a été un compositeur et pianiste virtuose, son corps
est enterré dans ce cimetièremois son coeur est dans une église Warsaw.
Ce cimetière c'est très grand.
9. CÈLÉBRE ENTERRÈ DANS LE
CIMETIÈRE DU PÈRELACHAISE
George Bizet: il est nè à Paris (1838 – 1875), il a
été un compositeur français. Il est nè dans la
famille des musiciens. Il est entré dans un
conservatoire à Paris. Il a été un celèbre pour le
piano.
Jean de la Fontaine: il est né en Chàteau – Thierry,
France (1621 – 1695), il a été un poète. Il a été
célèbre pou ses douze livres de fables. Il est nè
dans une famille fiche.
10. DESCRIPCIÓN DE LUGAR
El cementerio inglés se encuentra en el número 1 de la Avenida Príes. Tiene un
magnífico jardín botánico, en el que se encuentran muchísimas plantas y
especies exóticas, el terreno está acondicionado en pequeñas mesetas como
grandes escalones para compensar la pendiente. Está orientado hacia el mar
Mediterráneo, sus tumbas tienen detalles clásicos, neogóticos y modernistas y
en este cementerio están enterradas personas de todas las nacionalidades, como
españoles y británicos sobre todo. Este cementerio anglicano y cristiano es el
más antiguo de la Península Ibérico, fue construido en el 1831. Aquí mismo se
construyó en 1850 la capilla de San Jorge, donde los comerciantes británicos
podían rezar y atender sus necesidades espirituales.
En la entrada del cementerio hay una pequeña recepción donde años atrás el
jardinero y guardia vivieron alli. Al entrar, diriges la mirada hacia arriba y ves
dos magníficos pero antiguos leones custodiando al cementerio, que te hace
pensar la antigüedad e historia que debe tener. Tras esto puedes contemplar un
largo camino que desemboca en una iglesia y en una división de callejuelas
llenas de vegetación de todas clases y colores. Al rededor de la iglesia, se
encuentran grandes y altas tumbas de personas importantes, como William
Mark o George Clarke. A la izquierda, hay un amplio camino central, y a ambos
lados, de tanto en tanto, se van abriendo camino pequeños que dan paso a los
distintos espacios donde se encuentran tumbas. Al final de ese camino central,
11. mediante sucesivos bancales que iban venciendo la pendiente sobre una capa verde
de tréboles de tres hojas.
A mí me resultó magnífico visitar este cementerio, yo me lo imaginaba más
tétrico, más como de película, pero me he dado cuenta de que estaba muy
equivocada, es todo lo contrario, es un lugar tranquilo, muy colorido y donde
puedes fácilmente escuchar pájaros cantar. Aunque cuando lo visitamos hacia
mucho calor la vegetación del entorno y su frescor nos permitió disfrutar del
momento. En general, es un cementerio con espacio reducido, pero es como si
hubiera una ciudad bien distribuida. Me ha parecido un lugar donde se respira
paz, es sereno, con gran estética, en un sitio privilegio, orientado al mar y a
magníficas vistas sobre Málaga como puestas a propósito para las personas de
todas las nacionalidades que descansan allí para siempre.

13. A BIOGRAPHY OF GERALD
TORRIJOS
José María Toriijos y Uriarte was a
general Torrijos he was born in
Madrid 20th march of 1791 and
died in Malaga, 1st december of
1831. He was a spanish military ,
fighting in the war of
Independence.
He was exiled and persecuted until
his execution, participated in the
battle of Victoria. In 1813 he was
married with Luisa Carlota Sáens
de Viniegra. He was executed in
Malaga beach of Saint Andres in
1831. He participed in many war
and battles. He won the title
thanks to the Queen governor. His
is know as te General Toriijos.
