re-enactments, live hand held camera
footage, archive footage and narration.

4. NARRATIVE
The Narrative of the documentary is single stranded, by doing this
audiences are able to view the event in chronological order and easily
understand the full context and be fully educated with no confusion.
It has an Italian to English Narration, the Narrator is Male and British for
easily understandable voice overs and allows the audience to understand and
be educated.
It is also Open ended, Non Linear and contains a binary opposition.
5. CAMERA
Handheld Camera – to allow the audience to see
close up footage and personal footage into Marilyn
Manson’s life and feel closer to the action.
Interviews – Usually positioned the camera and the
subject is within a medium close up, however in the
interviews with Marilyn Manson’s the camera is at a low
angle to symbolise power and authority of beliefs and
lives.
Establishing Shot – Shows the Location and ‘sets
the scene’ of the event.
Tracking Shot – It allows the audience to almost
follow the action and feel like they are there with them
and makes a more personal connection.
6. MISE EN SCENE
Location – Italy (2001) Establishing Shots
throughout the documentary of Italy sets the scene for
the audience so they can get a more visual
understanding of the event.
Interviews – The settings in which the interviews take
place allow an insight into the role/ profession the
interviewee has within the case. Al interviews were
shot in natural light and set in places such as
bedrooms, grave yards, churches, court rooms all of
which relate to the case and themes of the
documentary.
7. SOUND EDITING
Translations from Italian to English
Non- Diegetic Music – Helps to set the atmosphere, rock
music was played when showing clips of Marilyn Manson and
his fans and choir music played when the information of the
nun was given etc.
Interviews – Confessions as a voice over of the girls who
committed the crime of murder.
Sound Effects – a heart beat sound effect was played
when describing the murder of the lady and Marilyn Manson +
Fans to add tension and fear.
Diegetic Sound – Of Marilyn Manson singing, talking to
his fans and when showing extracts of his music videos.
8. EDITING
Zoom – Into the Devil Symbols as the Narrative was
being spoken, to relate and symbolise death, evil and fear.
Slow Motion – This was used during the extracts of his
concerts as concerts are fast paced and so are slowed down
so the audience can take in the vibe of the concert and
Manson's Behaviour to his Fans and his views of Religion.
Voice Over
Conventional Editing - This was particularly used during
interviews so that the audience didn’t have to listen to the
questions being asked, just the answers the interviewee has
to say in response.
