Trilobites were marine arthropods that lived during the Paleozoic era, from around 521 to 247 million years ago. They were among the earliest complex life forms with segmented bodies and jointed legs. Trilobites were very successful and diverse, with over 20,000 known fossil species, filling many ecological niches as predators, scavengers, and grazers.
