As a child, I ate bitter watermelon seeds, hoping melons would thrive inside my stomach if I just
consumed enough handfuls of dirt to keep them alive. Distressed by my new diet, my father handed
me a shovel & I began digging holes in my backyard. Every Sunday afternoon since, I find solace in
the community garden where I escape the burdens of college applications, spend time with my
family, & relax. Through gardening, I understood the necessity to reduce deleterious carbon
emissions & embrace environmental sustainability. At Cornell, I intend to study environmental
chemistry to combat climate change & secure a better, pollution free future for my plants.

Laura Fortino Essay
Laura Fortino has had quite an amazing career so far.
Her historic NCAA experience with Cornell stationed her at sixth in all–time team assists, and she
left the team with the second–highest plus–minus in school history (+142). She is a two–time gold
medalist and four–time silver medalist with Team Canada, and assisted on the golden goal at the

must know what it is. According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling in law
enforcement "is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on
their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin" ("Racial Profiling"). Racial brutality tends to be an
outcome of most racial profiling cases. Racial profiling will usually be most casually seen in traffic
stops. Not only does racial profiling make police officers hypocrites for not protecting, and causing

From the early year of his life as a undergraduate student in China, Jia Sheng dreamed of going to
America for his advanced education. When he graduated from Liaoning University, he was accepted
by Brown University as a graduate student. He thought this was a great oppotunity for his life.

Jia Sheng had a long journey from his hometown Shenyang in Northeast China to Providence Rhode
Island in the United States in the fall of 1983. It took him over 14 hours by train from Shenyang to
Beijing. When he said goodbye to his father, mother, and his brother in the train station, he felt very
sad because this was the first time he left home for such long journey. He did not know when he was

famous opera composed by Giacomo Puccini. It premiered in the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on
January 14, 1900. The one the professor viewed in class took place at New York City's Metropolitan
Opera in March of 1985, starring Placido Domingo (tenor) as Mario Cavaradossi, Hildegard
Behrens (soprano) as Floria Tosca and Cornell MacNeil (baritone) as Baron Scarpia.

She's very insecure about her love life, hence the fact hearing Cavaradossi's speaking to someone
upon her arrival. As innocent and sweet as she might be, her anger and revenge is set in the right
place in her confrontation with Scarpia and subsequent murder scene. "Questo il beccio di Tosca!"
(This is Tosca's Kiss!) Muori Muori Muori...Die...Die...." Tosca snatches a knife from the table and
kills him. She wretches the document from his stiffening fingers for permission to leave the country
and places candles at his head and a crucifix on his chest. This is my favorite scenes of Act II. It
goes above and beyond my expectations for so much anger and hate of Floria. Her intensity, her
passion and soaring high notes are quite thrilling. Even with her high notes, the insecurity can still
be heard as well as her anger.
Baron Scarpia is devilish and quite powerful. He is probably quite enjoyable even though he may be
of the "random singer" type of singer but he bleeds with corruption and sinister evil in every note.

Main sequence stars like our own sun enduring in a state of nuclear fusion during which they will
produce energy for billions of years by replacing hydrogen to helium. Stars change over billions of
years. When their main sequence phase ends they pass through other states of existence according to
their size and other characteristics. The larger a star's mass, the shorter its lifespan is. As stars move
toward the end of their lives, much of their hydrogen will be converted to helium. Helium sinks to
the star's core and raises the star's temperature–causing its outer shell to expand. These large, puffy
stars are known as Red Giants. The red giant phase is actually a prelude to a star shedding its outer
layers and becoming a small, dense body called a White Dwarf. White dwarfs cool down for billions

can create an implied texture. An example within the print would be the tips of the wave, Hokusai
