2. WHAT DO PUBLISHING AND DISTRIBUTING COMPANIES DO?
A magazine distributor print and publishes a magazine
whilst also being responsible for sales. For an increase in
sales they target specific locations where they believe the
magazine will sell the most. The bigger the distributor the
more opportunities the magazine gets to sell.
3. DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISTRIBUTION
There are three different ways magazines can be distributed:
Paid Circulation: This is where the magazine is sold to readers for a certain price either per
issue or by a monthly or annual subscription
Non Paid Circulation: There is no price for these issues as they may be given away in
newspapers or they could be publications such as in flight magazines
Controlled Circulation: This is where the magazine is only distributed to qualifying
researchers, it is normally done for free and is reviewed by a survey
4. AMPLIFY
Amplify is a magazine which has paid circulation, the price
of the magazine is displayed very clearly on the front
cover making it very easy for people to view when they are
reading the magazine
5. BAURE MEDIA GROUP
Baure Media Group is a one of the largest distributors in
the world with over 15 countries operating the company.
They produce several types of magazines such as Mojo,
Planet Rock and Kerrang. Although these magazines
don’t fit my chosen genre it’s a great insight into the types
of magazines Baure distribute.
6. IPC MEDIA
IPC Media is another media distributor which prides itself in creating
content for multiple platforms and different media forms.
I think that Amplify would work with IPC media because the company
distributes magazines which are already in the alternative genre, for
example NME. This magazine has a target audience of 16-25 years old
which would benefit Amplify as its target audience is 17-18 years old. It
suggests that the distributing works well for NME which is why I would
choose this company for Amplify to get distributed.
