2. IDEA
After choosing our song ‘ALL CRIED OUT’ we looked at the lyrics, we saw instantly
that the song was about someone getting over a boy. So we started by looking at
songs with the same meaning, I found that a lot of them have similar conventions
such as using ;
Friends
performance (singing directly to the camera)
Free un choreographed dancing
Fashionable clothing
Both narrative and performance
Singing in the narrative
3. Songs about break ups.
Cheryl Cole – I don’t care.
-storyline with friends hanging out having
fun
-performance by herself to camera
-quick edits
G.R.L – Ugly heart
-storyline with friends
-performance to camera
-storyline throughout the whole thing
4. Dance / pop genre music videos
Calvin Harris – I need your love
-quick edits on beat
-linking narrative and performance
Calvin Harris – this is what you came for
-very colourful
-performance in studio
- projections
5. From this we decided that we wanted to have an underlining
storyline of a girl going through a breakup, with her friends helping
her get through it and throughout the video help change the
protagonist mood to being happy. With performance aimed at the
camera in different locations and narrative by herself. We will also
include fast edits to the beat.
We wanted to incorporate bright colours into our video as well as it’s
a convention of pop and dance music videos, so we have chosen to
use a projector to display patterns and colours in the studio on our
protagonist to show her emotions.
6. Final idea
There will be 3 different locations, a girls bedroom, where most of the narrative will
take place, of Eloise looking at pictures of her ex online and being sad, then her
friends will come in and cheer her up and reminding her that she’s ‘all cried out’ over
the boy.
The second location is the studio, with the white background and projections, the
projections appear a lot on the chorus and represent Eloise’s emotions, happy, wild
and free.
The final location is another studio with dark black curtains all around, this location
will mainly be seen in the second half of the song, when Eloise feels confident about
being over her ex, and in this location she will be showing her feelings towards him by
singing to the camera whilst ripping up old photos of them and dancing, showing her
finally being over him.
The whole video will be done with quick edits to the beat, with a range of shots and
camera movements.
